He was addressing the inaugural India Global Forum (IGF) in Dubai. Kottikollan said India was losing edge over others because of policy issues on animal testing and other key issues which were essential for developing medicines and bio-artificial organs like harts, lungs and kidneys. He said there would be a huge demand for bio-artificial lungs as the Covid-19 pandemic was affecting millions in India and other parts of the world.

“India a country of 1.4 billion, can’t rely on Western countries to develop essential medicines and medical equipment. India is losing billions of dollars of funding allocated by pharma companies and tech firms because of the outdated policies in the sector,” Kottikollan said.
