The Trump campaign on Tuesday said that it would appeal Bellows’ decision to Maine’s state courts after the ruling, and Bellows suspended her ruling until the court system ruled on the case…reports Asian Lite News

Former US President Donald Trump has filed an appeal of the decision by Maine’s top election official ruling him ineligible to appear on the state’s primary ballot.

Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows decided that Trump is disqualified from the state ballot in next year’s US presidential primary election on December 28, 2023, for his role in the 2021 attack on the US Capitol, Xinhua news agency reported.

The Trump campaign on Tuesday said that it would appeal Bellows’ decision to Maine’s state courts after the ruling, and Bellows suspended her ruling until the court system ruled on the case.

Ultimately, the nation’s highest court will likely have the final say on whether Trump appears on the ballot in Maine and other states.

Air Tragedy Strikes Haneda

Television footage showed a large burst of fire erupting from the side of the JAL plane as it taxied on a runway. The area around the wing then caught fire…reports Asian Lite News

More than 300 flights were cancelled after a Japan Airlines (JAL) Airbus A350 carrying 379 people collided with a second plane while landing at Tokyo’s Haneda airport.

The Tuesday evening incident forced the airport to shut down all runways for several hours late into the night, leading to cancellations of 226 flights to and from Haneda, affecting over 40,000 passengers, reports Xinhua news agency.

Despite the reopening of three runways on Wednesday, about 100 flights are still expected to be scrubbed on the day, disrupting the travel plans of 19,000 passengers.

At around 6 p.m.on Tuesday, JAL Flight 516, that had flown into the Tokyo from New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido prefecture was landing on Haneda’s C-runway when the Coast Guard flight MA-722, a Bombardier Dash-8, collided with it, with both aircraft catching fire.

Television footage showed a large burst of fire erupting from the side of the JAL plane as it taxied on a runway. The area around the wing then caught fire.

The footage seen an hour later showed the blaze engulfed the aircraft.

Five of the six crew members aboard the MA-722 were confirmed dead, while the captain who managed to escape earlier was severely injured.

The Coast Guard plane, which belongs to the Haneda Airport base, was taxiing on the runway to transport relief goods for quake-hit areas in Niigata prefecture after a series of temblors of up to 7.6 magnitude struck central Japan on Monday afternoon, according to Coast Guard spokesperson Yoshinori Yanagishima.

Meanwhile, all 367 passengers and 12 crew members on board the JAL flight escaped from the airplane while it was on fire without life-threatening injuries after the collision.

The Tokyo Fire Department said it took more than eight hours to extinguish the fire following the crash.

A Haneda air traffic controller had permitted the passenger plane to land on a runway before the crash took place, and had ordered the Coast Guard aircraft to “hold short of the runway”, national broadcaster NHK reported, citing sources with the Transport Ministry.

The Japan Transport Safety Board, the government-affiliated agency in charge of probing serious accidents involving airplanes, trains and ships, on Wednesday started investigating the cause of the accident and examining the aircraft wreckage.

Death Toll Rises to 64 in Japan Earthquake Series

Local media reports showed that the water supply has been cut in a total of 16 cities and towns in the quake-hit Noto region…reports Asian Lite News

Amid continued aftershocks and reports of additional damages, the death toll due to a series of powerful earthquakes that struck the central Japanese prefecture of Ishikawa earlier this week, increased to 64 on Wednesday, with search and rescue efforts currently underway.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck off the Noto Peninsula at 10:54 a.m. (local time) on Wednesday at a depth of 10 km, reports Xinhua news agency.

On Tuesday at at 5:13 p.m, the JMA said a 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck off the Noto Peninsula at 5:13 p.m. local time on Tuesday at a depth of 10 km, measuring upper 5.

Since the massive earthquakes, with the strongest one measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale, occurred on Monday, the region has witnessed at least 155 temblors.

The JMA has also lifted all tsunami advisories along the Sea of Japan following the quake, but weather officials warned that strong aftershocks may occur in the week, especially over the next two to three days.

Meanwhile, a total of 57,360 people evacuated in 955 locations across quake-affected Ishikawa and Niigata prefectures, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi told mediapersons.

Local media reports showed that the water supply has been cut in a total of 16 cities and towns in the quake-hit Noto region.

Approximately 1,000 Self-Defense Force officers have arrived at the disaster area to carry out rescue operations.

The JMA said the earthquake, which measured the country’s maximum seismic intensity of 7, recorded a maximum three-component vector sum peak ground acceleration of 28,266 gals.

The figure is comparable to the 29,334 gals recorded in Kuriyama city, Miyagi prefecture, which also experienced a top-intensity quake during the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.

It is generally assumed that the greater the acceleration, the larger the shaking and damage, but other factors, such as the duration of the shaking, also play a role, said the JMA.

Injuries were reported in the prefectures of Ishikawa, Niigata, Fukui, Toyama, and Gifu.

Hinduja Group’s The OWO Residences Record Robust Sales

The OWO was closed to the public and it was opened for the first time after 120 years in September this year by Princess Anne – the Princess Royal, the sister of King Charles II…reports Asian Lite News

Over 10 per cent of the buyers of the Raffles branded The OWO Residences, part of the refurbished heritage property, The Old War Office of Britan’s World War II prime minister, Winston Churchill, is from the GCC from a value perspective, while global sales in the pipeline is hovering close to 50 per cent according to the Hinduja Group.

“The fact that owning a residential property at The OWO is a rare opportunity to buy a piece of history has stirred up robust response from the UAE, GCC and Middle Eastern buyers,” said Sanjay Hinduja who heads The OWO development and is also the Chairman of Gulf Oil International.

The development value of The OWO Residences spread across 185,000 sq. ft, excluding private amenities that span 30,000 sq. ft and communal areas is estimated to be in excess of £1 billion.

The OWO has 1–5-bedroom residences and penthouses, all in very unique and different shapes in a value range of £4,000 to £10,000 + per sq ft.

Super-rich GCC buyers have also found The OWO Residences in their flavour as it resonates with their predominant preference for branded service apartments and privacy, and the property ticks all that is in their wish list on top of its ubiquitous location in in Central London bang opposite 10 Downing Street.

The Group is also gearing up for a major awareness campaign on The OWO and its potential as an asset class of its to own in GCC in the first quarter of 2024 with roadshows planned in the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

The OWO Residences, co-located with Raffles hotel on the front side offering 85 units from one to five bed apartments and exquisite penthouses have been clocking huge interest from buyers from the US, UK, Asia and the Middle East. “We have broken the record in sales in the UK and now our focus is more on the GCC and Middle East in general as we continue to receive high profile delegations from the region keen to explore The OWO,” said Sanjay Hinduja.

He said one of the most expensive apartments at The OWO has been bought by a Middle Eastern investor, joining other high-profile buyers from the world of Wall Street, Hollywood, mainland China, Singapore, among others.

“GCC buyers typically buy into a property when it is complete compared to their Asian counterparts who are open to acquire under construction projects.  With the construction complete and the Raffles hotel open and buzzing, we have been receiving a number of GCC visitors to London who want to explore the property, touch and feel the exquisiteness of it and appreciate its architectural excellence, before they decide on buying,” said Charlie Walsh. Head of Sales & Marketing, The OWO.

The OWO was closed to the public and it was opened for the first time after 120 years in September this year by Princess Anne – the Princess Royal, the sister of King Charles II.

“This is a unique project and there won’t be any of this magnitude in Central London.  The residential side is very private and separate from the hotel on the front side. It also comes with a private ecosystem of amenities entirely catering to residents ranging from utilities, dining areas, lounges, cinema gym etc.  Typically, high profile investors from the GCC want high level of hospitality services and privacy and The OWO Residences have this taken care of,” said Walsh.

The Hinduja Group bought the property in 2015 from the   UK government and it took 8 years for the global business conglomerate to restore it.  The OWO also houses the first Raffles hotel in the UK. Residents at The OWO can also leverage Raffles hospitality, including dedicated concierge services as the hotel is co-located within the premises. The Europe’s first Raffles branded residences is shaped by the British design studio 1508 London.  Residents will be sharing history at The OWO which was once the strategic base for Winston Churchill during World War II, while in later years James Bond author, Ian Fleming, also worked in the complex as a naval intelligence officer.
