‘We Are The NHS’

Recruitment for the NHS has never been more vital, Asian Lite speaks to Urwa Mogul,  Healthcare Support Worker as part of the ‘We are the NHS Campaign’

Now in its third year, the ‘We are the NHS’ campaign is back to celebrate the extraordinary work of NHS staff in over 350 roles including healthcare support workers, nurses and allied health professionals to inspire a new cohort to consider a career in the health service.

The professionalism and dedication staff have shown throughout the pandemic has generated unprecedented interest in joining the NHS while the demands of contending with coronavirus and keeping other services running means recruitment has never been more crucial. ‘We are the NHS’ shines a light on some of the most in-demand roles in the NHS; all varied, exciting and challenging in equal measures.

Urwa Mogul, Healthcare Support Worker, at Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

“I’m a recent graduate however, there are no set entry requirements to becoming a healthcare support worker, apart from good literacy and numeracy skills,” said Urwa Mogul, Healthcare Support Worker, at Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust when asked about her experience. “ You can choose which area you work in, anything from mental health to childcare; I wanted to gain clinical experience therefore, opted for a hospital-based role supporting patients and managing daily activities.

“As a Healthcare Support Worker, it’s extremely important to be a caring and compassionate individual, patient interaction makes the job extremely rewarding and I would recommend the role to anyone wanting an introduction into the world of healthcare. Another vital skill is working efficiently and effectively with your team members as patient care can only be of the highest standard and in return you have access to world-class training. I love my job and find it extremely gratifying, this is my first full-time role and I have gained so much clinical experience by working with other HCSW’s, Nurses, Doctors, Physiologists and Allied Health Professionals, it is also important to be open to learning new skills to show that you can develop. With that mindset the opportunities to progress are endless and I’ve learnt so much within a short space of time.

“Due to the large surge of Covid patients – at Royal Papworth Hospital we take the sickest patients from across the East of England – there has been an increased requirement of staff working on the wards to care for these patients. I was recently redeployed to Critical Care giving an extra hand to nurses looking after patients. It’s sad to see patients like this but knowing we are doing our absolute best to help them recover makes it all worthwhile. The majority of critical care patients we see at Royal Papworth Hospital are ethnic minority patients which is saddening but I feel like I am doing a great deal for our community and I hope I’ve made some sort of a difference to their care and recovery. My end goal is a career in medicine and I know that my patient facing role will help equip me with all the necessary skills and qualities needed to thrive.”

Detecting Fake Images on Social Media

Fake pictures are in use in social media for a long time ago. So how do we stop ourselves not to fall into the trap of fake pictures? One of the best ways to do this is to use a reverse image search. It means you will be able to know how to interpret information. Another way is to verify it yourself. Here are some tips and tricks.

Fake images are always there, but this term has received a lot of attention lately. First because of President Donald Trump’s phrase. Recently, it has been due to the Facebook-Cambridge analytic data scandal. The news is mainly a source of information, which means fake news is the opposite. According to the dictionaries, this is a false source of deliberately distributed information to fooling people.

1.     Use Reverse Image Search

Most often, forged news comes in the form of an image. Photos that try to deliver some information but actually from other incidents that are entirely unrelated are shared on social media. One of the easiest ways to check whether any picture is real is uploading it to reverse image search.

Press the enter button to browse from there and you can get results. It will help you see if the picture is what it was supposed to be or not. Whether it comes from the right incident or whether someone posts a similar image that might match the content you are looking for.

2. Check whether the image has been denied

Many fake images are recirculated and previously denied. Photo search is a simple and effective way to see how previous photos have been used. Unlike typical internet searches where keywords are determined, the reverse image search for pictures can give the same results yet from a broader database.

The reverse picture search engine index in depth from comprehensive content and get data from always changing social media pages as well. Irrespective of whether the picture is located over the internet, this site will find it. In this way, no online content is left untouched so that you get the most valid results.

You can increase the possibility of getting the finest results by cutting pictures containing areas that are in demand. Because this reverse image search requires you to upload pictures which will be compared to thousands of databases.

3. Check Metadata

Digital pictures often contain rich metadata that can provide instructions on their origin and authenticity. Metadata is data about data. Metadata for digital pictures, including making cameras and models; Camera settings such as the size of the aperture and exposure time; date and time when the picture is taken.

The location of the GPS where the picture is captured; and much more. All these procedures are easily possible with reverse image search which is available at reverseimagesearch.com.

4. Get to know what is Fake

When assessing whether a picture is authentic or not, it is essential to know what can be fake. For example, two people’s picture standing shoulder to shoulder is relatively easy to make by connecting two photos. Likewise, the shark picture swims next to the surfer—the concept of two people who embrace more challenges to make because complex interactions are difficult to falsify.

Modern artificial intelligence and reverse image search can produce a difference between fake and real objects. This is mainly limited to changing faces in pictures, not the entire body. So it is possible to create a good fake from someone who says something they have never done but doesn’t have to do anything with physical actions.

5. Help against the wrong information

Fake pictures have led to terrible violence throughout the world, manipulating democratic elections and civil riots. The prevalence of incorrect information also allows anyone to “fake news” in response to any news stories they disagree with.

I believe that it is essential for the technology sector to make a broad and in-depth change in content moderation policies. Reverse image search technology can no longer ignore direct and measurable losses originating from their sources.

Finally, everyone must change the way they consume and spread content online. When reading online stories, diligently consider the source. Always be careful of extraordinary satirical stories that are often misinterpreted for real news.

Conclusion

Check the date of each story. Many fake accounts continue to recirculate the year after their introduction. Know that many primary backups such as reverse image search are designed to attract your attention. Readout of the editorial to ensure that the story is what it seems to be.

The news you read on social media is fed algorithmically to you based on previous consumption that matches your current view. Finally, extraordinary claims need extraordinary evidence. The reverse image makes every possible way out to search for the authenticity of pictures within a couple of seconds.

US Witness Highest Jobless Claims In 3 Months

The number of initial unemployment claims in the US increased to 885,000 last week, a three-month high, as surging Covid-19 cases weigh on economic recovery, the Labour Department reported.

In the week ending December 12, the number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits increased by 23,000 from the previous week’s upwardly revised level of 862,000, Xinhua news agency quoted a report issued by the Department’s Bureau of Labour Statistics (BLS) as saying.

It marked the highest number of jobless claims in three months, indicating the disruption of the labour market’s recovery by recent Covid-19 spikes.

In the week ending October 17, the figure dipped below 800,000 for the first time since late March, and had been largely declining in the following weeks, but the trend was reversed in the weeks ending November 14 and November 21, and then in the week ending December 5.

The BLS report also showed that the number of people continuing to collect regular state unemployment benefits in the week ending December 5 declined by 273,000 to 5.5 million.

However, the recipients of Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, a federal program that applies to workers who usually do not qualify for regular state unemployment benefits, such as the self-employed and gig workers, soared by 688,793 to 9.2 million in the week ending November 28.

Meanwhile, the recipients of Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation, which provides an additional 13 weeks of benefits for those who exhaust regular state benefits, increased by 268,532 to reach 4.8 million in the week ending November 28.

Both federal programs are set to expire, while Congress remains deadlocked over a new round of Covid-19 relief.

The total number of people claiming benefits in all programs — state and federal combined — for the week ending November 28 rose by 1.6 million to 20.6 million, signalling a stalled recovery in the labour market.

The webinar, organised in cooperation with the IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was joined by prominent CEOs representing leading retailers form the UAE and India who shared their insights on the evolving global retail landscape, market predictions and best practices for enhancing the customer experience.

Panellists and speakers included Rajiv Podar, President – IMC Chamber of Commerce & Industry; Omar Khan, Director of International Offices – Dubai Chamber; Dinesh Joshi, Chairman IBC – IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Mira Kulkarni, Founder – Forest Essentials; Dalip Sehgal, CEO – NEXUS Malls; Rajneesh Mahajan, CEO – Inorbit Malls; Paul Marks, Managing Partner – Retail Management Solutions; Sameer Tapia, Founder – ALMT Legal; Ramesh Cidambi, COO – Dubai Duty Free; Pankaj Kumar, Head Omnichannel Retail – Jumbo Electronics; J P Shukla, Co-Founder & CEO, 1-India Family Mart; Chirag Vora, Partner – Amarsons Collections; and Umme-Haani Khorakiwala, Director – Akbarallys Men.

Discussions during the event examined the impact of COVID-19 on traditional retailers and e-commerce companies, preventative measures and best practices adopted by Dubai, which have enabled retailers to reopen during the pandemic.

Changing consumer demands and rapid digital transformation in the COVID-19 era have created new challenges and opportunities for retailers around the world, the panellists explained, highlighting the need for industry players to integrate advanced technologies and digital platforms to enhance brand reputation and stay connected to customers.

Retail is a major contributor to India’s economy and the Indian retail market is projected to grow to US$1.75 trillion by 2026, Rajiv Podar revealed, adding that this growth trend is supported by several factors such as a growing middle-class, rapid urbanisation and increased consumer spending.

For his part, Omar Khan highlighted the vast competitive advantages offered by Dubai to foreign companies and investors. He pointed to recent changes to the UAE Commercial Companies Law permitting 100 percent foreign ownership of mainland companies as an important development that creates a major business opportunity for Indian retailers that are looking to expand globally.

India remains Dubai’s second-largest trading partner with bilateral non-oil trade reaching AED38.5 billion ($10.5 billion) in the first half of 2020, Khan revealed. He identified several factors that make Dubai a market of choice for leading Indian businesses, including its geographic proximity to the country and a large Indian diaspora, adding that some of the biggest names in the UAE’s retail sector are owned by Indian businessmen.

PCB Treated Me Badly During 2011 World Cup: Akhtar

Following Mohammed Amir’s retirement, Shoaib Akhtar has claimed that he too wasn’t treated well by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management during the 2011 World Cup when he was about to bid adieu to the game.

Amir on Thursday announced his retirement from international cricket, alleging he was “mentally tortured” and that he cannot play under current PCB management.

Following Amir’s retirement, Akhtar posted a video on his YouTube channel and said the 28-year-old should have dealt with the PCB management by performing well in cricket and not by escaping.

“I openly say that I was not treated well during the 2011 World Cup, not by Shahid Afridi but by the rest of the management. I am saying it openly. I was harassed but I didn’t care as I had already announced my retirement,” Akhtar, who retired after the 2011 World Cup, said.

PCB Treated Badly During 2011 World Cup: Akhtar

“Amir should have bowled well and improved his performance so that no one could remove him from the team. You have to face your fears and you must confront management but by performing,” he added.

The ‘Rawalpindi Express’ further said that if given a chance, he could train Amir to bowl again with the same intensity in just two months.

“If you hand Amir to me for two months, everyone will see him bowling over 150km/hr. I can teach him that I taught him three years ago. He can make a comeback,” said Akhtar.

Amir, who played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 50 T20Is for Pakitan in which he scalped a total of 259 wickets, in a video announced his retirement owing to the unbearable mental torture from PCB.

Flipkart Sees 35% Increase In New Seller Presence

With the rise in online shopping amid the pandemic this year, not only in metros but also in tier-3 cities and beyond, Flipkart on Friday said it saw close to a 35 per cent increase in sellers onboarded in 2020, in comparison to the same period last year.

These sellers came from tier-2 and tier-3 regions such as Tirupur, Howrah, Zirakpur, Hisar, Saharanpur, Panipat and Rajkot, the company said.

They primarily catered to categories such as household needs, women’s ethnic wear, grooming, home decor and toys and school supplies.

During the “pre-Covid” January-March period, the most searched products included personal care, men’s clothing, footwear and women’s clothing.

During the lockdown, food and nutrition, household, toys and audio products witnessed the highest demand, Flipkart said.

“Flipkart’s purpose has been elevated this past year, as we continue to play an important role in ensuring the safe delivery of products to consumers’ doorsteps through a safe and sanitized supply chain,” Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Flipkart Group, said in a statement.

“The emergence of ‘the new essentials’ has seen the creation of greater opportunities and partnerships on our marketplace.”

The platform said it witnessed a new user growth of close to 50 per cent right after the lockdown, with tier 3+ regions registering the highest growth of 65 per cent during the “unlock” July — September phase.

Consumers from tier 2 and tier 3+ regions also spent the most time on the platform, signaling a continuing rise in user engagement and a shift in shopping preferences.

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) adoption on the Flipkart platform increased nationally by 4.5X from January 2020 to August 2020, with Maharashtra taking the lead with a 5.2X growth.

Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu were the other states that were at the top of the list for UPI adoption on the Flipkart platform.

This year, the adoption of native languages saw a 2.5X increase from pre-Covid to the festive period January to November, the company said.
