‘Dance Sparks Mental And Physical Joy’

Ashley Lobo.

Indian-Australian choreographer Ashley Lobo, who is also the founder and artistic director of Danceworx Academy and Navdhara Theatre, says that for dancers, dance is the workout and their gym and naturally, their fitness companion.

The noted choreographer speaks to IANSlife on achieving mental and physical health through dance. Excerpts:

Dancing comes naturally to everyone from a baby to an adult. How does it spark mental and physical joy?

Yes, that is true, dancing is a natural movement and because it connects the mind and body it sparks mental and physical joy. You don’t need to be the perfect dancer, you have to just want to move your body. Close yourself to everything else, play the music you like and sway away. Dance helps you liberate yourself and it is what makes you feel happy. Today the world has come to a standstill, we are all in shock and dance can help keep the calm and balance our bodies and minds. Dance, for yourself, dance because it is the most natural thing for us to do.

Being a dancer yourself, your thoughts ln dance being a fitness companion as well?

When you exercise, be it dance or any other form, you become flexible and that is the first step in staying healthy. Dance also builds strength and stamina which are other requirements to keep fit and healthy. Also, do not forget, dance helps you ease out socially and sociability is quite another way of staying in the groove. For dancers, dance is the workout and their gym and naturally their fitness companion.

Lockdown is helping me design new choreographies: Ashley Lobo.

Dancing is the best cardio workout. Do you agree?

Cardio has been designed to increase your heart rate and sweat you out – what one does in dance is a form of cardio like aerobics was a craze years ago. Dance helps keeps the muscles moving and the heart is ultimately a muscular organ so inevitably dance helps it stay conditioned. Dance also gives the body strength training – which is important to keep your heart healthy. Not to forget that dance gives the body flexibility which is a way to keep your movement smooth and comfortable. And most importantly, dancing is also fun and a happy person means a happy heart.

Speaking about your technique Prana Paint, how is it an exercise in spirituality and holistic health?

Prana Paint is a technique that involves a unique sensitizing approach through yoga, breath, connectivity and touch. Prana is a Sanskrit word for life force or energy. The key in this technique is to listen to the body rather than tell it and, to allow rather than to create. It involves various experiential exercises from floor to skin to air that are used to get the person closer to accepting themselves fully and activate the prana flow.

In our world today, we need to look at things that matter more closely than chase things which are not meant to be. Prana Paint helps you to adopt a more expansive approach to listen to yourself – which is your body and mind and calms you to do what is best.

Make Your Beard Baby Friendly

Is if your beard really baby friendly?. (Photo: Unsplash)

While the world has been busy adjusting to the ‘new normal’ thanks to the pandemic, a few people have been blessed and celebrate the biggest highlights of their life at home.

Many couples celebrated an engagement while other got hitched during the coronavirus. Some are revelling in the joys of parenthood as they welcome a new addition to their family. Once you become a dad, a lot of your life’s choices are dictated by your baby. For instance, you start seeing the world from a different perspective, by prioritising your baby over yourself. Upgrading or even creating an additional living space for your child. Along with your change in lifestyle, you also need to update your looks. Is if your beard really baby friendly?

Mumbai-based celebrity stylist and Gillette Grooming expert, Aalim Hakim, says keep it simple, short, and soft to avoid any pain when your baby pulls your beard or causing micro abrasions from cuddles. It is important that your look is baby friendly. Father to two sons, Aalim has played a key role in styling and guiding the new dads and expectant fathers on how they must maintain their beard including the likes of Hardik Pandya, Sumeet Vyas and Suresh Raina, who have all had to alter their looks to suit their new-borns.

Aalim says, the easiest and the least time consuming is to go clean-shaven, since you can then feel your toddlers’ hands on your cheek, it is an unmissable experience. But if that is too much to ask, then men can look at maintaining a light stubble or a simple moustache. The celebrity stylist shares some secret hacks to get your beard right for the baby.

To begin with, gather all your tools; pick up a good razor – depending on your skin and beard type use a Mach3, Fusion Proglide or a Skinguard. Along with this you will also need a comb, scissors, aftershave gel to get the desired style:

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has shaved off his signature “’83” moustache. The actor took to Instagram on Monday night, where he shared his clean shaved look. Ranveer captioned the image: “Ae Chikne”.

CLEAN SHAVE

While everyone might not like to be clean shaven, it is one of the most recommend method of maintaining personal hygiene and getting rid of dead skin.

This look is considered to be a confident and trustworthy look, because your beard can alter your face- structure. This look is an honest and open book. If you have good face structure like a sharp jawline and great facial features, why not flaunt it instead of covering up under facial hair.

The benefits of a clean shave are: It keeps your child safe from bacteria residing in your beard,
It can help remove dead skin cells (often the cause of acne and bad skin), It often makes you appear younger, It will compliment a formal appearance.

ANCHOR BEARD

Use a scissor and comb to even out your beard hair length. Wash your face with hot water or apply a hot towel on your beard as it will help soften the facial hair as well as open the pores. Apply a shaving gel or foam and massage it in a circular motion all over the face and neck area to condition the skin for a smooth shave. To achieve this look, the soul patch and goatee at the chin will be connected to create an anchor shape. The corner of the anchor will be hugging the jaw line of the face keeping the length and shape as required. You can keep your moustache in a pencil shape, or a pyramid shape disconnected with your anchor beard. Shave with a light and gentle pressure to give yourself a close shave.

Beard care

After the complete process wash your face with cold water and apply aftershave lotion or balm as it is the best possible way to close your pores, soothe the skin and smell nice
The benefits of an anchor beard are: Keeps your cheeks clean, giving your baby room to feel your face, gives you a sleek, sharp and confident look, it will compliment your formal appearance if done. regularly

BALBO BEARD

Balbo beard is one of those styles that is a combination of both, the moustache and a goatee. This style is unique in its own way since the moustache and the goatee are not connected. The goatee is created in the shape of the letter ‘T’ where the letter is inverted.

Using your scissor and comb, reduce the density of the beard around your cheeks and disconnect your moustache with your goatee. Give yourself a clean shave with the best razor on the cheeks start shaping your goatee as an inverted T below your lower lip. It can be as thick/thin as you like.
Create a straight line while you move your strokes downwards from the top. Ensure your strokes are extremely sharp & strong. The benefits of a balbo beard are: Keeps your cheeks clean, giving your baby room to feel your face, it avoids areas that commonly experience patchiness, it’s an easy style to pull off and one that transitions seamlessly from day to night and a great go-to look for men of all face shapes.

HANDLEBAR MOUSTACHE

Using your scissor and comb, bring down your overall moustache length to about 1/5 of an inch. Keeping it longer at the edges around your mouth

Start defining the shape of your handlebar moustache by following your lip line to the corner of your mouth and trimming in a downward direction, create clean edges and tidy up any stray hair around your handlebar moustache

Create a neat parting with rounded edges in the middle of your handlebar moustache. Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan is among the most comfortable superstars to work with, says Priya Patil, his stylist on Kaun Banega Crorepati.

Talking about Bachchan’s preferences when it comes to clothing, Priya said: “The format of the show (KBC) is that it is an evening show and we have been using the three-piece suits for the last three years. Rashid Khan Shines as Sunrisers record first Win

SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Tuesday recorded their first win of the IPL season as they beat Delhi Capitals by 15 runs at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium here.

After scoring 162/4 in 20 overs, spinner Rashid Khan led the way with figures of 3/14 as SRH restricted DC to 147/7 in 20 overs. Rashid was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck early for SRH, dismissing DC opener Prithvi Shaw (2) in the first over of the innings. DC captain Shreyas Iyer joined Shikhar Dhawan in the middle and while the pair ensured that the team didn’t lose any more wickets in the powerplay, they could not take the attack to the opposition. Shreyas Iyer eventually fell on 17 off 21 balls to become Rashid’s first wicket.

Rishabh Pant struggled to get the run rate up, taking 27 balls to get to his 32. Shimron Hetmyer (21) also struggled to get going before hitting a couple of sixes off Khaleel Ahmed in the 15th over. He tried to keep up the pace and ended up falling to Bhuvneshwar off the very first ball of the next over. Pant eventually fell to Rashid and in the next over, Marcus Stoinis was out LBW to T Natarajan.

Khaleel bowled the last over with 27 to defend and he rarely gave the batsmen a chance to get going. He dismissed Axar Patel off the third ball and Kagiso Rabada ended the match with a six.

World Tourism Day: Exploring The Origins Of Swiz Tourism

Switzerland is a dream destination which features on every traveller’s bucket list, from around the world. In addition to the picturesque landscapes, majestic mountains and charming towns, which makes Switzerland stand out as a tourist destination is the exceptional experience that it provides. The well connected and convenient Swiss Transport System is a boon for every tourist while the welcoming hospitality of the swiss people leaves them with memories of a lifetime.

This World Tourism Day on September 27, it’s only apt that we explore the origins of tourism in Switzerland.

In the early 18th century, followers of the Romantic movement travelled across Europe in an attempt to follow their own desires and regularly poured their experiences in their art and literature. A poem by Jean-Jacques Rousseau published as “La Nouvelle Heloise” (The New Eloise), which spoke of the untouched beauty of Lake Geneva encouraged thousands to flock to Chillon to admire this picturesque landscape for themselves. Years later, India would romanticize Switzerland similarly thanks to Yash Chopra and many Bollywood songs.

In the 19th century, the mountains proved strikingly fascinating to the young upper-class men from Britain. The first guesthouses to accommodate these young visitors began to appear: Mount Rigi in 1816; Mount Faulhorn, the highest guesthouse in Europe, in 1823; Wengernalp in 1835; Kleine Scheidegg, looking out onto the North Face of the Eiger, in 1838; and the Rothorn (Brienz) in 1840. Even today, the grand mountain peaks lure tourists to Switzerland, some of these summits are now the hub for adrenaline-pumping adventure sports.

The 1854-1865 period was considered the “Golden Age of Alpinism”, when members of the British aristocracy started conquering the highest summits of the Swiss Alps. In the mid-19th century, Switzerland also welcomed Queen Victoria and her entourage for a five-week getaway. It was the first visit to the Alpine country by a reigning British monarch. The trip left its mark not only on the Queen but also on the Swiss tourism industry. In present times, the resort town- Gstaad, greatly appeals to the Indian royalty and the Bollywood elites Like Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Virat Kolhi among others!

A belief in the Alps ‘as a place of healing’, made Switzerland the best place for treatment of lung diseases. High altitude fresh air had a therapeutic effect on patients and soon gave rise to health tourism in the country. The curative regime at the new health resorts involved drinking the spring waters, hydrotherapy, and, of course, inhaling the pure mountain air. Even today, Switzerland is a top wellness destination that houses beautiful spas with world-class facilities!

The launch of special coach services over the mountain passes made the high peaks accessible to a wider public. Cog railways, invented in the mid-1800s climbed the steepest of mountains, proved to be a major advantage for Swiss tourism. The first cog railway in Switzerland, running from Vitznau to Mount Rigi, opened in 1871. And many more followed, to become what is now the most well connected and developed public transport system in the world, which can be accessed by Swiss Travel Pass- a popular service which encourages Indian tourists to opt for Switzerland as a destination, due to its convenience and ease-of-use for tourists.

In 1912, the highest train station in Europe, the Jungfraujoch (altitude: 3454m) opened. The latter half of the 19th century saw the arrival not only of trains but also of hotels and guesthouses, which were springing up across the country’s mountain regions to cater to the rising influx of tourists to these areas. To this day, Switzerland’s panorama train routes are among the most beautiful rail routes in the world. Passing through the most majestic mountain scenery, idyllic valleys and villages; along crystal-clear lakes and ice-blue glaciers, the trains like Bernina Express, Glacier Express and others have become a part of the country’s heritage and history.

Switzerland- a small, prosperous and peaceful nation with a stable economy quickly emerged as a thriving tourist destination with a lot of things to offer- Snow-capped mountains, ravishing landscapes and pristine waterfalls along with rich cultural and traditional experiences, adventure sports, and varied gastronomy. At the turn of the 20th century, the tourism industry in the Swiss Alps became an invaluable element in the national economy. Switzerland is now the most successful nation in promoting winter tourism which accounts for a substantial part of the total revenue of the country.

Biden discloses latest tax returns prior to debate

US Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has released his tax returns just hours ahead of the first debate with President Donald Trump. Biden and his wife Jill paid nearly $288,000 in income tax last year, according to the filings.

He has also called on the President to release his returns, the BBC reported on Tuesday.

The move follows a report by the New York Times that Trump paid just $750 in income tax in 2016. Trump said the claims were “fake news”.

For years, Trump has been criticised by Democrats for not making his tax returns public as his predecessors did.

He says his tax returns are currently being audited, and that he will not release them while an inspection is continuing. There is no legal reason why the president cannot release his returns while an audit is taking place.

Biden’s tax returns showed he paid $346,000 in federal taxes and other payments last year on an income of nearly $985,000 before seeking a refund of nearly $47,000 they said they had overpaid.

Biden’s deputy campaign manager Kate Bedingfield described the release of the returns as a “historic level of transparency”, saying: “Mr President, release your tax returns or shut up”.

kamala Harris.

Biden’s running mate Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff reported $3,018,127 in taxable income, most of this was from Mr Emhoff’s partnership at a law firm. The pair paid $1,185,628 in taxes.

The New York Times claimed Trump paid no federal income taxes in 11 of 18 years of tax records that were examined.

After the success of The Apprentice TV show, he did initially pay significant taxes – $95 million over 18 years. But he later got most of that back via a $72.9 million federal tax fund. The refund remains under review.

The newspaper also alleges Trump claimed tax deductions on expenses including $70,000 of hair styling for television

Cops Forcibly Cremated Hathras Gang Rape Victim

The mortal remains of a 19-year-old Dalit woman from Hathras, who died in a Delhi hospital after sustaining serious injuries during an alleged gang rape, was cremated early Wednesday in her village amid tight security.

The victim, who was paralyzed after being allegedly dragged on the field by her attackers on September 14, died at the Safdarjung Hospital on Tuesday after battling for life for a fortnight.

Her mortal remains reached the Boolgarhi village around midnight and the cremation was done at 3 a.m.

“The police have forcibly taken the dead body, and my father along with them for cremation. When my father reached Hathras, he was immediately taken (to the crematorium) by the police,” the victim’s brother told the media.

There was tension as the victim’s mortal remains reached the village and people tried to block the ambulance from moving ahead.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Veer denied any ‘urgency’ by the police in holding the cremation at night even though cremations do not normally take place after sunset.

He added that the cremation was done by the family as usual after the body reached Boolgarhi village. The SP claimed that the situation is calm in the village, but heavy police force has been deployed.

The woman was allegedly raped in a Hathras village by four men, who were later taken into custody. Initially she was rushed to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Aligarh, but on Monday night had to be shifted to the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi after her condition deteriorated.

She was in a critical condition and on ventilator support.

The police claimed that the post-mortem report did not confirm any sexual assault.

The brutality against the teenager sparked outrage across the country with several political leaders, Bollywood actors and activists demanding justice for her.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi tweeted that it was a matter of concern that the victim’s family was denied the right to perform her last rites. “This is unjust and unfair,” he said.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also tweeted: “Government has snatched away the family’s right to perform the cremation of the victim. The government did not provide her security and timely treatment and now they have denied her dignity in death.”

Trump’s ‘taxes and debts’ pose national security issue: Nancy Pelosi

The top-ranked Democrat in Washington has called US President Donald Trump’s alleged tax avoidance a question of “national security”.

Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, asked whether Trump owed money to foreign interests, following an article on his financial records by the New York Times.

It alleges Trump paid only $750 in federal income tax in both 2016 and 2017. The President called the report “fake news”, the BBC reported on Monday.

Speaking on NBC, Pelosi said the report showed that “this president appears to have over $400 million in debt”.

“To whom? Different countries? What is the leverage they have?” she asked, adding: “So for me, this is a national security question.”

“The fact that you could have a sitting president who owes hundreds of millions of dollars that he’s personally guaranteed to lenders, and we don’t know who these lenders are,” she said, and suggested that Trump may be indebted to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“What does Putin have on the president politically? Personally? Financially?”

According to the explosive report in the New York Times – which says it obtained tax records for Trump and his companies over two decades — Trump paid no income taxes at all in 10 of the previous 15 years. It adds that the president is personally responsible for more than $300m in loans, which will come due in the next four years.

It does not suggest Trump received any previously unknown income from Russia, though it said that the president had earned some money from foreign sources.

The records reveal “chronic losses and years of tax avoidance”, it says.

In a tweet on Monday, the president accused the media of bringing up his taxes and “other nonsense with illegally obtained information and only bad intent”.

He said he had “paid many millions of dollars in taxes” but received tax credits as well. Responding to the accusations of losses, Trump added he had “very little debt” compared to the value of his assets.

Trump has faced legal challenges for refusing to share documents concerning his fortune and business. He is the first president since the 1970s not to make his tax returns public, though this is not required by law.

The New York Times said the information scrutinised in its report was “provided by sources with legal access to it”.

The report came just days before Trump’s first presidential debate with his Democratic rival, Joe Biden, and weeks before the 3 November election.

The New York Times said it reviewed tax returns relating to President Trump and companies owned by the Trump Organization going back to the 1990s, as well as his personal returns for 2016 and 2017.

It said the president paid just $750 in income taxes in both 2016 and 2017, while he paid no income taxes at all in 10 of the previous 15 years, “largely because he reported losing much more money than he made”.

The newspaper also claims that “most” of Trump’s biggest businesses – such as his golf courses and hotels – “report losing millions, if not tens of millions, of dollars year after year”.

Hidden Agenda Of Mavericks

Lord Rami Ranger CBE, former chairman of the Conservative Friends of India, comments on the newly formed Conservative Friends of Kashmir. “These misguided Tory MPs should know that India shares common values and ethos with the United Kingdom, unlike Pakistan, which is a religious State and systematically discriminate against her population based on religion and gender…”

Lord Rami Ranger

I am saddened to learn that a few maverick Conservative Members of Parliament have relaunched the Conservative Friends of Kashmir unofficially to satisfy Kashmiri voters in their constituencies.

These Conservative Friends of Kashmir will attack India on her human rights record when they should know that the Government of India takes human rights as sacrosanct, and the Indian Constitution guarantees equality to all regardless of their race, religion and gender. The heart of governance is the rule of law with greater emphasis on human freedom.

The fact of the matter is that Pakistan has instigated the unrest in Kashmir after unsuccessfully trying to occupy Kashmir through 4 full-blown bloody wars. It is common knowledge that Pakistan is a sponsor of international terrorism and a haven for banned terrorist groups.

Pakistani Army is known to offer lavish hospitalities and then conveniently ask these Parliamentarians to compromise their democratic principles of upholding equality where everyone is equal regardless of race, religion and gender.

Kashmiris are free to form political Parties and elect leaders of their choice and run Kashmir as they deem fit. However, they are not allowed to use religion to make their fellow Kashmiris and women second class at a stroke. It is time Kashmiris are encouraged to coexist and live in harmony like they do in every civilised country rather than trying to divide themselves and the nations based on their faith.

If religion had the strength to unite, then Bangladesh would still be a part of Pakistan, and every Muslim country would accord free movement of Muslims in their countries. Sadly the reality is somewhat different.

People always unite for a wrong cause of smash and grab, and once the reason is not there, then they turn on each other. More importantly, religion is a force for good. It is to unite humanity and not divide like the Pakistanis are doing.

These misguided Tory MPs should know that India shares common values and ethos with the United Kingdom, unlike Pakistan, which is a religious State and systematically discriminate against her population based on religion and gender. Pakistani constitution does not accord equality to every citizen as it promotes people based on faith and not merit.

These MPs should appreciate that the Conservative Party has evolved over a century with the visions and dedication of our great leaders like Margaret Thatcher and the British values like tolerance, equality and fair play cannot be compromised to the detriment of our next generations.

Every Britons should be encouraged to keep religion a private matter and never use it to generate hatred to damage social cohesion and race relation in Britain.

They are privileged to represent their Party and our rich and diverse country and to encourage people to use religion in the absence of merit will damage Britain as well as India.

They have to see how Pakistan has become intolerant over the years and how diversity is systematically being eliminated. Ahmaddiyas, Hindus, Sikhs and Christians are getting victimised daily in the name of their faith. No country can progress whilst holding back the progress of her citizens due to their belief.

These MPs can carry on serving the legitimate interests of your constituents but must avoid undermining the rule of law in Kashmir. They should be fair and firm with their members and learn to represent every Briton and not just a handful of Kashmiris.

They should learn from the Labour Friends of Kashmir how their anti-India rhetoric drove the British Indian vote to the Conservative Party and help the Conservative win a majority in the last election.

The British Indians now consider themselves to be true Conservatives and are abandoning the Labour Party in droves. Instead of capitalising on Labour’s mistake, they are following them by relaunching the Conservative Friends of Kashmir and scoring own goals for their Party and country. I hope good sense will prevail, and they will stop dividing their Party and country by supporting a clandestine organisation which does not have the blessings of the Government or the Party.
