Two people killed in Saudi-led airstrikes on Sanaa

Two persons were killed and two injured when Saudi-led coalition airstrikes hit a building under construction in Yemen’s Houthi-held capital Sanaa…reports Asian Lite News

The airstrikes on Wednesday also destroyed a factory for producing plastic materials, the Houthi television reported without providing further details.

Both sites under attack are located in northern Sanaa, Xinhua news agency reported.

Meanwhile, the coalition announced that its operation targeted secret sites used by the Houthi militia for storing and firing “bomb-laden drones, including a building under construction used as a secret factory for assembling the drones,” the Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya TV reported.

Saudi-led coalition destroys factory in Yemen’s capital

The Saudi-led coalition bombarded a factory in the Yemen’s capital Sanaa, the Houthi militia has claimed…reports Asian Lite News

The factory for producing plastic materials is near a major hospital and around 2 km south of Houthi-controlled Sanaa International airport, reports Xinhua news agency.

“The factory is owned by a Syrian citizen,” the militia-run al-Masirah TV reported on Tuesday night without providing further details.

Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition said in a statement that the airstrike destroyed a major target, where the Houthi militia used to store ballistic missiles in Sanaa’s Dhahban neighbourhood.

According to Sanaa residents, a series of powerful explosions were heard and a big fire was seen miles away from the targeted site.

The airstrike came hours after the Al-Arabiya TV reported that the coalition intercepted a bomb-laden drone aimed at Saudi Arabia’s Najran International airport.

UAE-Saudi joint military exercise continues

The joint Emirati-Saudi military exercise, dubbed “One Destiny,” which is taking place in the UAE, is continuing with the participation of Emirati and Saudi land forces…reports Asian Lite News

The military cooperation between the two countries aims to reinforce the combat readiness of their armed forces, as well as promote the exchange of defence and military knowledge and skills through organising training exercises, increasing the operational capacities of the units, and establishing the foundations of joint action and cooperation.

The exercise is part of the joint training plans and programmes held between Emirati and Saudi land forces, aimed at sharpening their capacities and combat abilities.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s landmark pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai recorded on Thursday its one millionth visit since it opened on October 1st…reports Asian Lite News

The occasion was marked with a special ceremony in the Open Square area of the pavilion, a uniquely designed five-story structure that is the second largest pavilion at Expo. A special video and a countdown to the one million mark were shown on a giant digital screen, amid a shower of colorful confetti, followed by a traditional musical show performed by Saudi artists.

ONGC, Saudi Aramco ink feedstock and marketing deal

To explore a strategic alliance on a broad range of energy prospects, public sector oil and gas explorer Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with world’s largest oil company Saudi Aramco.

The two energy companies will look into long-term supply contracts for the sale and purchase of crude, refined petroleum and petrochemical products to create secure and competitive energy sources for the Indian market.

Both the entities also hope to utilize their affiliates in this strategic alliance, namely; Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL), ONGC Petro-additions Ltd. (OPaL) and ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd. (OMPL) of ONGC and Aramco Trading Company (ATC) of Saudi Aramco.

They also look forward to exploring low carbon energy demand and supply as part of this strategic alliance.

The MoU was signed by ONGC Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Subhash Kumar and Saudi Aramco Senior Vice President of Downstream Mohammed Yahya Al Qahtani on Thursday.

The signing ceremony took place at the Saudi Arabia Pavilion at Dubai Expo 2020.

Speaking on the occasion, Kumar said: “This MoU further strengthens our bilateral energy relationship, which is one of the cornerstones of the solid historical ties between India and Saudi Arabia. This collaboration will bolster companies’ capabilities, leveraging our respective in-house competencies while creating value for all stakeholders and offering a framework for expanding the cooperation in other energy-related areas.”

Mohammed Yahya Al Qahtani said: “This ceremony is a testament to the strong and valuable relations between our economies, our countries and our people. India is a strategic and significant market of the Kingdom and we look forward to enhancing our synergies by providing mutually-beneficial opportunities through our global-scale trading network and system with a competitive offering. We hope this will open more areas of collaboration in the future to expand our global footprint.”

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Mohammed bin Salman Misk Foundation, has announced the launch of “Prince Mohammed bin Salman Non-Profit City,” the first non-profit city in the world, reported Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The city will be a model for the development of the non-profit sector globally and an incubator for youth and volunteer groups as well as local and international non-profit institutions.

The Crown Prince said that this will be the first non-profit city of its kind which will contribute to achieving the goals of Mohammed bin Salman Misk Foundation in supporting innovation, entrepreneurship, and qualifying future leaders by defining non-profit work in terms of opportunities and youth training programmes it will provide.

The project will also provide services that contribute to creating an attractive environment for all beneficiaries of the city’s offerings, he added.

“Prince Mohammed bin Salman Non-Profit City, which implements the Digital Twin model, will host academies, colleges, ‘Misk Schools’, a conference centre, a science museum, a creative centre offering a space to support the ambitions of innovators in sciences and new generation technology such as AI, IoT and Robotics,” Prince Mohammed stated.

He added that it will also feature an arts academy and gallery, performing art theatre, play area, cooking academy and integrated residential complex. In addition, the city will host venture capital firms and investors to support and incubate innovative enterprises to drive community contributions from around the world.

The Non-Profit City is located on land dedicated by the Crown Prince, in Irqah neighbourhood, adjacent to Wadi Hanifa. The city’s master plan embodies a human-centred, advanced digital metropolis designed to be sustainable, pedestrian-friendly, and will allocate more than 44 percent of the total area for green open spaces to promote sustainable development.

Iran to mend ties with Saudi Arabia

Iran is currently working to remove the existing obstacles in the ongoing rapprochement with Saudi Arabia…reports Asian Lite News

“Given the statements and the welcoming approach of Saudi Arabian officials concerning the establishment of relations with the Islamic Republic, follow-ups to remove obstacles are underway,” said Mahmoud Abbaszadeh Meshkini, spokesman for the national security and foreign policy commission of Iran’s parliament.

Iran to mend ties with Saudi Arabia

As quoted by Parliament’s official news agency, Abbaszadeh Meshkini stressed the capacity of Saudi Arabia to determine foreign policy preferences of “some countries” in West Asia, reports Xinhua news agency.

The senior representative noted that more than one deputy ministers of foreign affairs had presented reports to the chamber, adding that Iran is determined to expand relations with its neighbours.

There is no apparent serious obstacle on the part of Iran in this process, and the possibility for cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia on the basis of common interests exists, he said.

According to the legislator’s remarks after the session, only some preparations remain to be made by experts in the ministries so as that eventual official meetings will yield results.

Iran and Saudi Arabia have not had formal diplomatic ties since 2016.
