Keep Your Skin Glowing This Monsoon

You may not feel as thirsty as you often do during the hot weather. However, to have bright and beautiful skin, you must maintain your body hydrated. Drink at least 2-3 litres of water every day to remove toxins from your system…reports Asian Lite News

With continuous rains and unpredictable weather, this season may be challenging for our skin, resulting in irritating outbreaks and a lacklustre look. You need to understand your skin and the kind of care it needs. If you have oily skin, the key to keeping it fresh and revitalised is to incorporate lightweight products into your beauty routine. For dry skin types, the emphasis should be on maintaining appropriate moisture. Let us look at some of the monsoon skincare routines.

Clean thoroughly

During the monsoon season, dirt and grime may easily accumulate on your skin. A gentle cleaner should be a must for you. Using the appropriate cleanser for your face will also keep pollutants from plugging your pores. So, wipe your face twice a day, particularly before going to bed.

Exfoliation is must

During the monsoon months, your pores can become clogged with impurities. Proper exfoliation is needed to protect your skin from acne and other skin-related problems. A thorough scrub is required to remove all of the pollutants that have accumulated. Exfoliating your skin two to three times each week will help eliminate dead skin cells and accumulated debris.

Proper moisturisation of skin

Just because your skin feels oily and sticky doesn’t imply you shouldn’t moisturise. One of the primary causes of dull skin during the monsoon season is a lack of excellent moisturiser. Moisturisation helps your skin stay hydrated and provides your skin with the natural oils. Choose a lightweight, oil-free moisturiser that hydrates your skin.

Stay hydrated

You may not feel as thirsty as you often do during the hot weather. However, to have bright and beautiful skin, you must maintain your body hydrated. Drink at least 2-3 litres of water every day to remove toxins from your system.

Don’t forget sunscreen

Never begin the day without sunscreen on your skin. Sunscreen is essential, regardless of the weather. As soothing as overcast skies are, damaging UV rays may pass through them and damage your skin. Even on overcast days, you should use a broad-spectrum sunscreen.

Deepika Padukone on Diets: “I Eat Well!”

The 38-year-old shared that there is a misunderstanding around the word diet…reports Asian Lite News

Actress Deepika Padukone said that she eats well and has never followed a diet that she cannot be consistent with.

Deepika took to Instagram, where she shared a collage of pancakes paired with whipped cream, brownie with ice cream and samosas.

For the caption, the mother-to-be shared that she eats well.

“Surprised to see this on my feed? Well, I eat! And I eat well! Ask anyone who knows me. So don’t believe anything else you might hear or read. The trick? Balance, Consistency and Listening to YOUR Body,” Deepika said.

The 38-year-old shared that there is a misunderstanding around the word diet.

“There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding around the word ‘Diet’. We often believe that ‘Diet’ means to starve, to eat less and to eat all of the things we detest. What ‘Diet’ really means is the total of all the food and drink consumed by an individual,” she said.

“The word actually comes from the Greek word ‘diaita’, which means ‘way of life’. I’ve always, for as long as I can remember, followed a ‘Balanced Diet’,” Deepika wrote.

Deepika strongly said that she loves to indulge.

“And it is for me ‘a way of life’. I’ve never followed a diet that I cannot be consistent with or one that is a fad. Now, do I indulge? Of course, I do, as demonstrated above! But it most certainly isn’t my way of life,” she wrote.

“Ever heard the phrase ‘you are what you eat?’ If there’s one thing I’ve learnt (the hard-ish way) it is that those words couldn’t be truer.”

Talking about Deepika’s work front, the mom-to-be is basking in the success of ‘Kalki 2898 AD.’

Directed by Nag Ashwin, the post-apocalyptic film is inspired by Hindu scriptures and set in the year 2898 AD. Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas and Disha Patani are also part of the film. The film is a mythology-inspired sci-fi extravaganza set in the future. Actors Vijay Deverakonda, Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal Thakur have cameos in the film.

Ranveer, on the other hand, will be seen headlining Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Don 3’ in the coming months.

Actors Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, who attended the grand wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant on July 12, shared a heartwarming picture with the newlyweds to convey their best wishes.

Regional Variations Impact Stroke and Co-Morbidities

The study points out that the majority of public health researchers interpret the burden of stroke from a socio-economic perspective while biomedical researchers investigate stroke in isolation…reports Asian Lite News

A study conducted by the prestigious national institute  Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology ( RGCB) here has pointed out that while stroke has emerged as one of the leading causes of death globally, the genetic factors of different ethnic groups and regional disparities in co-morbidities play a critical role in influencing the burden of the disease.

Moinak Banerjee, who is associated with the Neurobiology Division of Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (BRIC-RGCB) said the underlying genetic factors are very critical in determining and defining the regional variations in influencing stroke and its co-morbidities which, in turn, can define the burden of stroke.

“The findings of the study, one of the largest ever performed globally covering 204 countries, were based on the data collected from 2009-19 for stroke and its major co-morbid risk. A total of eleven diseases were studied, and these included overall stroke, its subtypes ischemic stroke (IS), intracranial haemorrhage (ICH), along with its co-morbid factors like ischemic heart disease (IHD), diabetes type 1 & type 2, chronic kidney disease, high blood pressure, high body mass index (BMI), and high LDL cholesterol,” said Banerjee.

The research, published in the prestigious biomedical publication eLife, demonstrated that metabolic risk in America and Europe and vascular risk in Asian and African regions are the major drivers for stroke risk, in proof that stroke and its co-morbid factors show strong regional disparities and ethnic and region-specific genetic factors.

“Co-morbidities in stroke can amplify the risk of stroke and its outcome. Stroke affected over 101 million people worldwide and caused over 6.55 million deaths in 2019, making it one of the leading causes of mortality,” added Banerjee.

The study points out that the majority of public health researchers interpret the burden of stroke from a socio-economic perspective while biomedical researchers investigate stroke in isolation.

“We demonstrate that the stroke and its co-morbid factors show strong regional disparities. Co-morbidities in stroke can amplify the risk of stroke and its outcome. Thus, prevention of stroke needs to mainly focus on the management of its co-morbid factors and reduce the burden of these factors,” it points out, signifying population-specific risk,” states the study

The study stressed the need for understanding the epidemiological observation of major conditions or their co-morbid conditions from its genetic viewpoint, which can help health policymakers understand the areas of concern.

RGCB Director Prof Chandrabhas Narayana said it is an important study that can significantly contribute to the prevention and management of stroke, as it views the disease from a population point of view.

Lifestyle Key to Boosting Good Cholesterol

The neurologist also called for maintaining adequate hydration as “chronic under-hydration and habitual low water intake are associated with higher cardiometabolic risks, including low HDL-C levels”…reports Asian Lite News

Lifestyle measures are crucial to increasing the high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, also known as the “good” cholesterol, said a top neurologist on Tuesday.

Taking to social media platform X, Sudhir Kumar, from Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad explained that low HDL cholesterol levels can increase the “risk of heart attack and stroke”.

On the other hand, higher levels of good cholesterol can also protect against the “risk of heart attacks, stroke, and premature death”.

To increase the HDL-C levels, “lifestyle measures are key”, said the doctor sharing some tips.

Sudhir said that a good sleep of seven hours is essential for high HDL-C levels.

“HDL-C levels sharply reduced in people sleeping for four hours or less,” he said.

He stated the need for aerobic exercises, such as running, brisk walking, cycling, or swimming, for which one should “aim for 4-5 sessions per week”; and three sessions per week of resistance (strength) training.

“Combination of aerobic exercises and strength training has more beneficial effects on HDL-C levels than either of them alone,” the doctor said.

Further, Sudhir stressed the need to quit smoking as “HDL-C levels decrease with smoking, and increase after the cessation of smoking (among smokers)”.

The neurologist also called for maintaining adequate hydration as “chronic under-hydration and habitual low water intake are associated with higher cardiometabolic risks, including low HDL-C levels”.

Regarding dietary approaches, the doctor recommended the consumption of olive oil, avocado, nuts (a handful), and seeds like chia seeds; a low carbohydrate diet; choosing purple produce (rich in anthocyanins).

“Several fruits and vegetables are very high in anthocyanins, such as eggplant, red cabbage, blueberries, blackberries, and black raspberries. Eat fatty fish often (salmon, tuna, mackerel, sardines) to boost HDL levels,” Sudhir said.

He also advised black coffee (5 cups or more/day) without additives, as “it is associated with higher HDL-C levels”. He noted that green tea consumption is not associated with HDL-C levels. Further, the doctor advised to “lose weight (if obese or overweight)” and to manage stress via “meditation, relaxation, taking periodic vacations, engaging in hobbies, etc”

Mallika Sherawat Emphasizes Discipline in Fitness Journey

Mallika, who often shares workout videos of herself, said that genuine fitness cannot be bought…reports Asian Lite News

Actress Mallika Sherawat is a fitness enthusiast and said that exercise is not just a routine for her but a celebration of what her body can achieve.

Mallika, on Friday, shared a video of herself working out in the gym. In the clip, she is seen doing band workouts for her glutes, weighted lunges and core exercises using a ball.

For the caption, the actress wrote: “Exercise is not just a routine for me but a celebration of what my body can achieve. The real path to fitness requires discipline and dedication.”

Mallika, who often shares workout videos of herself, said that genuine fitness cannot be bought.

“The allure of an easy solution like these quick fixes and artificial procedures is tempting but genuine fitness can’t be bought. It must be earned through hard work and commitment,” she wrote.

Mallika is an ardent social media user as well. She often shares throwback pictures, clips and anecdotes from the films she has featured in.

Recently, she shared three images from her Hollywood 2010 horror drama film ‘Hisss’ directed by Jennifer Lynch. In the movie, Mallika played a shape-shifting serpent. Late star Irrfan Khan starred alongside the actress.

Talking about ‘Hisss’, Mallika wrote on Instagram that throughout her acting career, she has frequently faced ridicule and moral scrutiny for making bold choices on screen.

“I was always judged for stepping outside traditional boundaries. Moral police often frequently targets women criticising them for their clothing choices or for their behaviour which defies entrenched patriarchal norms that seek to regulate & control women’s bodies & behaviours,” she wrote.

The actress said that when she has taken on roles that challenge traditional views of feminity or roles that involve controversial themes, she discovered it is often “women who have voiced the loudest objections.”

“I feel the most beautiful woman in the world is a woman who protects & uplifts other women. Instead of judging each other for bold choices we should celebrate the courage it takes to break free from regressive traditional boundaries,” wrote the actress, who was last seen in the comedy drama ‘RK/RKay’.
