Giving at least a day for all mothers in the world is very important as the world celebrates Mother’s Day on Sunday. Several Indian athletes on Saturday credited their success on the field to the encouragement and guidance given by their moms.

Indian men’s hockey team drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh said on Saturday that his mother had played a very important role in shaping his career. “I would like to say that whenever I face any difficulties, I always talk to my mom, and it feels like everything is fine after talking to her. She gives good guidance. I have reached this level because of my mom. I would like to wish all the mothers a very happy Mother’s Day.”

Indian women’s team forward Navneet Kaur thanked her mother, saying, “Mom is Wow.”

“Right from my diet to my clothes, she has always taken care of each and everything. Since my mom is a homemaker, she has always wished that her daughter should do something different, and because of her, I am able to play for my nation. I can’t thank you enough mom. Every mother does her best for her children and I salute all of them.”

Her team-mate, Neha Goyal credited her mother for everything she has achieved. “My mom has always supported me and she has struggled a lot to help me reach here. I don’t have a father and we are three sisters, but she has never let us feel our father’s absence. She has worked hard in factories for daily wages to make my life better, and I would like to say ‘thank you mom for giving me a good life’. You are the reason why I am standing here,” said the 24-year-old midfielder.

Indian men’s hockey team striker Dilpreet Singh, who is preparing for the Olympics, said, “My mother has been my biggest support system. Her support has made me the person I am today.”

IPL suspended till further notice

The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff, and the other participants involved in organizing the IPL..reports Asian Lite News.

The 14th edition of the IPL has been suspended as the country battles the second COVID-19 wave. The Indian Premier League’s (IPL) 2021 season has been postponed, said the Indian cricket board (BCCI) on Tuesday. The decision was made after more Covid-19 positive cases emerged in the IPL bio-bubble following those on Monday.

“The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in an emergency meeting has unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect,” said a statement from the BCCI.

“The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and wellbeing of all the stakeholders in mind,” the statement added.

The Board confirmed that all players will return to their families after it emerged that SunRisers Hyderabad’s(SRH) Wriddhiman Saha in Delhi and Delhi Capitals’ (DC) Amit Mishra in Ahmedabad tested positive on Tuesday.

On Monday, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowling coach Laxmipathy Balaji and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowlers Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier, had tested positive along with the ground staff at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. That forced three teams – KKR, CSK and DC to go into isolation. However, more positive cases on Tuesday made it impossible for the league to continue.

“These are difficult times, especially in India and while we have tried to bring in some positivity and cheer, however, it is imperative that the tournament is now suspended and everyone goes back to their families and loved ones in these trying times,” the statement said further.

“The BCCI will do everything in its powers to arrange for the secure and safe passage of all the participants in IPL 2021,” it added.

“The BCCI would like to thank all the healthcare workers, state associations, players, support staff, franchises, sponsors, partners and all the service providers who have tried their best to organise IPL 2021 even in these extremely difficult times.”

A big question mark on continuation of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was raised on Monday after two Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) players tested positive for Covid-19, forcing the KKR-Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) match to be postponed, even as similar news emerged from the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) camp.

A couple of CSK franchise members and three members of the ground staff at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, venue of IPL matches on May 4 and 5, have tested positive. However, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) officials insisted that at least Tuesday match between SunRisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians was on. Delhi is also scheduled to host a Rajasthan Royals-CSK match on Wednesday.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday confirmed the positive results of KKR’s Varun Chakaravarthy and Sandeep Warrier, and that the match was being rescheduled. It, however, did not specify when and where the rescheduled game would be played.

“Unless there is something major, a player or a team member tests positive, the match will take place. We have no information about its postponement or cancellation,” said an official of one of the teams playing on Tuesday in Delhi.

Incidentally, the 60-match IPL reached its halfway mark on Monday, with the 30th match scheduled, between KKR and RCB, being postponed.

Delhi and Ahmedabad, among the IPL venues, are in tight grip of the raging pandemic, with hundreds of people dying of the virus and thousands struggling in and outside hospitals for oxygen and medical aid. But the BCCI has so far insisted that the IPL would go on.

The KKR players were locked up in their rooms in Ahmedabad and didn’t go for practice on Monday, following the reports of positive tests from their camp. If their tests till Thursday (May 6) return negative results, they will be allowed to train on May 6 and 7. They will then be available for the May 8 match, provided that game takes place at all.

The BCCI said that the medical team is also “determining the close and casual contacts of the two positive cases during the 48 hours prior to collection of the sample that returned the positive test results”.

At Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, everybody seemed on tenterhooks on Monday, the day the Delhi government sought Indian Army help to meet the Covid situation that is virtually got out of its hands.

DDCA officials said Tuesday’s match was on, so far they were concerned.

People of India very well known the Dadi with extraordinary shooting skills. Shooter Chandro Tomar, fondly known as Shooter Dadi, died after battling Covid on Friday. She was admitted to a hospital in Meerut earlier this week.

Actress Bhumi Pednekar, who played Chandro in the 2019 film “Saand Ki Aankh”, says Chandro Tomar’s death comes as a “personal loss” to her.

“It is completely devastating to know that Chandro dadi is not with us anymore. It really feels like a very big personal loss. She was someone who lived a very fulfilling life. She made her own rules, paved her own path and she had a beautiful sisterhood and a beautiful partnership with Prakashi dadi and together they left an impact on so many lives,” says Bhumi.

The actress adds: “I feel so fortunate to have played her character, got a chance to learn about life from her and she has left a very big part of herself with me.”

The actress says that she will always remember her.

“My condolences to the family and everybody whose life she impacted because I know there will be many who will be grieving her passing away today. But she always said tann buddha hota hai, mann buddha nai hota. I know in spirit she will always be with us because her teachings are going to be with us. She will thoroughly be missed,” she says.

Sharing a picture with her on Twitter, actress Taapsee Pannu, who played the role of Prakashi Tomar in the film, posted: “For the inspiration you will always be… You will live on forever in all the girls you gave hope to live. My cutest rockstar May the and peace be with you.”

She also wrote on her Instagram page: “But I learnt from you to never give up…Daadi will live on forever in the hearts of many girls like me who she was an inspiration to.”

Actor Randeep Hooda also posted on social media about how he was to meet her for the inauguration of a shooting ring, which got delayed due to Covid.

India off-spinner R Ashwin, who is representing Delhi Capitals (DC), has taken a break from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) since he wants to be with his family during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It appears that certain member(s) of his family have contracted Covid-19.

“I would be taking a break from this year’s IPL from tomorrow. My family and extended family are putting up a fight against #COVID19 and I want to support them during these tough times,” he tweeted after his franchise defeated SunRisers Hyderabad in the Super Over at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday night.

He, however, said that he hopes to return if things go in the right direction.


“I expect to return to play if things go in the right direction. Thank you @DelhiCapitals,” he added in the tweet.

The 34-year-old has played five matches and picked one wicket this season at an average of 147. He has an economy rate of 7.73.

During the last IPL, he had picked 13 wickets in 15 matches.

Ashwin was the player of the series during the recent Test series against England.

Several Australian cricketers are looking to leave the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to fears that they will be locked of their country following rising Covid-19 cases in India.

Australia pace bowler Andrew Tye left his franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) for ‘personal reasons’, it came to light on Sunday, after fellow RR player England’s Liam Livingstone had left a few days back citing ‘bubble fatigue’.

The Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) on Monday reported that many Australian players are ‘nervous about securing safe passage back home after the [Scott] Morrison government (Australian government) reduced the number of incoming passengers allowed from India’.

India is enduring a tough phase in the pandemic, with around 3.5 lakh daily Covid-19 cases and inadequate medical facilities. Sunday saw 3.54 lakh new cases with over 2800 deaths.

“Several sources close to the situation said on Sunday that multiple Australian players in India were seeking to leave the tournament early amid India’s skyrocketing coronavirus cases and recent travel restrictions imposed on people returning to Australia from India,” said the report in SMH.

The report quoted Kolkata Knight Riders mentor David Hussey, a former Aussie batsman, as saying, “Everyone’s sort of a bit nervous about whether they can get back into Australia. I dare say there’ll be a few other Australians (besides Tye) a bit nervous about getting back into Australia.

“Everyone’s pretty nervous about what’s going on over here, but they’re also pragmatic,” Hussey added.

Kane Williamson’s unbeaten 66 off 51 balls went in vain as Delhi Capitals (DC) beat SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the first Super Over of the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday.

Prithvi Shaw (53), Steve Smith (34) and captain Rishabh Pant (37) led DC to 159/4. SRH’s chase got off to a shaky start with captain David Warner (6) being run out in the fourth over and opener Jonny Bairstow (38) falling in the sixth.

Williamson anchored the chase after that point but hardly found anyone at the other end capable of standing up to the challenge of facing the DC bowlers on the sluggish Chepauk pitch.

However, Jagadeesha Suchith managed to smash 14 runs off six balls and, alongwith Williamson, took SRH to 159/7 and forced the game into a Super Over.

SRH, who sent in captain David Warner and Kane Williamson, managed to take just seven runs in their Super Over which was bowled by Axar Patel. One run was deducted from SRH’s tally due to captain Warner not putting his bat completely over the crease for the last run.

Captain Rishabh Pant and Shikhar Dhawan walked out for the run chase while spinner Rashid Khan bowled for SRH. The batsmen took two runs off the first two balls before Pant hit a four off the third. The next ball, however, went for a dot after which the batsmen stole two runs off the last two balls to take DC over the line.

Meanwhile, SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain David Warner said that the decision to drop Manish Pandey for Sunday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Delhi Capitals (DC) was a harsh one made by the “selectors”.

SRH opted to play 23-year-old Virat Singh ahead of Pandey on Sunday, who ended up falling to Avesh Khan for four runs. SRH eventually managed to reach 159/7 thanks to Kane Williamson’s unbeaten 66, thus tying the scores and taking the game into Super Over, which DC ended up winning.
“It depends on the selectors, it was a harsh call as per my opinion (On leaving out Manish Pandey). But at the end of the day it is a decision that they took and you cannot discredit Virat, he’s a very good player. On this surface, you don’t get too much time out there and it is very difficult. They bowled well in the middle and made it challenging for us,” said Warner.

After getting criticised for throwing his wicket away by former batsmen like Sunil Gavaskar and Kevin Pietersen, Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson buckled down to play a captain’s knock and lead his team to a six-wicket win on a difficult wicket on Saturday against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Samson, who made a century in the first match of the season, lost steam in the next three games as his over-aggression resulted in tame dismissals. His failure reflected in his team’s fortunes as they struggled to conjure up wins.

However, his unbeaten 41-ball 42 helped RR reach the 134-run target with ease on Saturday.

“Situation of the match demands the way I play. That’s what I’ve learnt from previous years. Even if you bat and score a quick fifty you feel bad if the team doesn’t win,” said Samson after the match that lifted his team to sixth in the points table.

Teammate David Miller, who made an unbeaten 23-ball 24 and shared an unbeaten 34-run partnership for fifth wicket with Samson praised his skipper.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Eoin Morgan criticised his batsmen for not showing intent after his team lost to Rajasthan Royals (RR) by six wickets in an Indian Premier League match on Saturday.

Saturday’s loss is the fourth loss in five matches for KKR this season and it has put them at the bottom of the points table.

“The batting let us down. We lacked a lot of intent throughout the whole innings. We were behind the game right from the start. Didn’t put the bowlers under enough pressure,” said Morgan who himself is struggling for runs and was run out without facing a ball on Saturday.

“We were probably 40 runs short which is a lot in a T20 game. The wicket today wasn’t as good as it has been here at the Wankhede. That was a challenge in itself. Every time we tried taking an attacking option, we lost a wicket. It left us a lot to do at the back-end, which we didn’t obviously do,” he added and admitted that RR adapted to the pitch much better.

He said he wants KKR batsmen to play freely and with a clear mind.

“Clearer the mind, the easier it is. We want guys to play free-flowing cricket. It wasn’t there today unfortunately.”

KKR head coach Brendon McCullum too said that his team’s batsmen lacked intent.

“They have to play with more intent with the bat at the start,” said McCullum.

Chris Morris’s four-wicket haul and a composed innings from skipper Sanju Samson (42 not out off 41 balls) helped Rajasthan Royals (RR) seal a six-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in an Indian Premier League match here on Saturday.

The win, secured with seven balls to spare, put RR in sixth place in the points table while KKR were pushed to the bottom.

Morris’s haul, in which he picked power-hitters Andre Russell, Pat Cummins and Dinesh Karthik, helped RR restrict KKR to 133/9 in 20 overs.

RR then chased it with the help of an unbeaten 34-run partnership for fifth wicket between Samson and David Miller (24 off 23 balls).

Though RR opener Jos Buttler failed again, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who came in for Manan Vohra, and Shivam Dube chipped in with identical scores of 22.

Russell, Cummins and Karthik had played explosive innings in the last match against Chennai Super Kings to take their side to 202 from 31/5. But on Saturday, they just couldn’t get going. All three of them were caught while trying to hit the South African over the boundary.

Morris, who was bought for Rs 16.25 crore ahead of this season by RR to become the most expensive player in IPL history, returned with figures of four for 23 in four overs. He was ably supported by left-arm pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who took one for 22.

Saurashtra pace bowling duo Jaydev Unadkat and Chetan Sakariya who opened the bowling were also impressive with the senior pro taking 1/25 and the junior 1/31 as KKR could never find their bearings.

Only Rahul Tripathi (36 off 26 balls) and Dinesh Karthik (25 off 24 balls) put up some decent batting performances to help their side get to their eventual total.

Morris’s bowling at the death hurt KKR the most.

At 117/5 and 15 balls to go, KKR had a chance to get to 150 with hard-hitters Russell, Karthik and Cummins still there.

But Morris got rid of Russell and Karthik in one over, his third, and then returned to remove Cummins in the last over.

Earlier in their innings, KKR kept losing wickets at regular intervals and found scoring tough. They were reduced to 61/4 just after 10 overs.
