UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan has met with Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).
The meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, touched on bilateral cooperation between the UAE and NATO, which contributes to strengthening regional and international security and stability.
The two sides also reviewed developments on the regional and international arenas, exchanged views on them, and discussed a number of issues on the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah reiterated that the UAE and NATO share a distinguished partnership that aims to promote stability in the region and maintain international peace and security, highlighting the keenness to develop bilateral cooperation between the two sides in various fields.
For his part, NATO Secretary-General valued the outstanding contributions made by the UAE to achieving peace in the region and enhancing regional and global security and stability, praising its significant humanitarian and development efforts in various parts of the world.
The meetings were attended by Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister for Political Affairs and Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations.
The UAE foreign minister also met with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba on the sidelines of the world leaders’ gathering.
The meeting touched on bilateral relations between the UAE and Ukraine and ways to further develop joint cooperation across various sectors, especially food security and trade exchange.
The two sides also reviewed the developments in the Ukrainian crisis. In this regard, Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the UAE’s readiness to contribute to supporting all efforts aimed at restoring stability and establishing peace through a sustainable diplomatic solution.

The meeting touched on ways to further develop joint cooperation between the two brotherly countries, in addition to a number of regional and international issues of common interest.
During the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the UAE’s support for the Presidential Leadership Council and its sincere national efforts to achieve security and stability throughout the Yemeni territories, and to meet the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people for development, progress and prosperity.
Sheikh Abdullah commended the well-established historical and brotherly relations between the UAE and the sisterly Republic of Yemen, stressing the UAE’s firm commitment to support the Yemeni people at various levels.
For his part, Dr. Al-Alimi valued the UAE’s continued support for the Yemeni people, stressing the strong historical and brotherly relations that bring together the two brotherly countries.

A number of new UAE Ambassadors to friendly countries have been sworn in before President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
President Sheikh Mohamed wished the new ambassadors success in their missions to consolidate the relations of friendship and cooperation between the UAE and the countries concerned, and urged them to work tirelessly to provide Emirati citizens in those countries with all means of comfort and care for their affairs.
He said that the UAE is witnessing a new development phase, in which it gives great importance to its partnerships and economic relations with various countries of the world, and this places great responsibilities on its diplomatic missions abroad, stressing his confidence in the ability of the new ambassadors to carry out these responsibilities, express the UAE policy and expand the base their interests in the countries in which they represent the UAE.
The new ambassadors pledged their loyalty to the UAE to place its interests over any other considerations while performing their diplomatic tasks with a high sense of honesty, integrity and confidentiality.

The UAE has announced establishment of the UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators (UICCA) during New York Climate Week.
The UICCA is a non-partisan, climate action entity that will bring together members of the public and private sector, including academic institutions and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to drive the UAE’s commitment towards net zero by 2050.
In the lead-up to the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28), which is set to take place in Dubai, the UICCA will establish an independent body that enables collaboration, cooperation and innovation. The UICCA, which will be led by Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, CEO and Founder of Alliances for Global Sustainability and Co-founder of Aurora50, is set to become the first of its kind entity on a global scale.
Under Sheikha Shamma’s direction and with the support of industry leaders and subject matter experts, the UICCA will operate as a think tank and predominantly focus on providing advice and recommendations to stakeholders on positive climate action that facilitates the transition to a green economy. This transition will contribute to boosting GDP growth, increasing job creation, and reinforcing the UAE’s position as a global Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) hub and first-mover on climate action.
Sheikha Shamma, Executive Director of UICCA, said, “It is an honour to be tasked, by the leadership of the UAE, with building and driving the UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators. Our goals as a nation are clear, and we have made significant headway towards implementing the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative – however, this is only our first milestone; it’s the synergies we create today that will allow us to live a more sustainable future, far beyond 2050. Egypt said on Monday that it takes pride in the close historical ties it has with India and is keen to deepen military and defence ties.
The aspiration to activate the partnership between the two countries “commensurate with their capabilities in all fields” was expressed by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi when he met visiting Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Cairo on Monday.
The Sisi-Singh meeting was also attended by Egypt’s Minister of Defence and Military Production General Mohamed Zaki besides the Indian Ambassador to Cairo Ajit Gupte and other senior officials from both countries.
Presidential spokesman Bassam Radi later said that the meeting discussed ways to enhance military and security cooperation between the two countries, especially with regard to cooperation in joint manufacturing, transfer and localization of technology, with the aim of exploiting the capabilities and infrastructure available in the two countries, as well as cooperation in the field of training, rehabilitation and joint exercises.
Singh, in particularly, spotlighted Egypt’s pivotal and decisive role in combating and conquering the threat of terrorism, which casts a shadow of security and stability over the entire region.
He also expressed India’s appreciation for the growth and prosperity of Egyptian-Indian relations, stressing New Delhi’s interest in deepening these historical relations in light of the comprehensive development boom that Egypt is witnessing under the leadership of Sisi.
“In this context, India looks forward to exchanging experiences and consolidating the military and security aspect within the framework of joint cooperation relations between the two countries,” mentioned the Egyptian spokesperson.
As India continuously grows its capability to manufacture advanced cutting-edge technologies and systems in the defence sector under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, Egypt is one of the several countries which has maintained its interest in acquiring made-in-India Tejas fighter aircraft for its air force.
The state-of-the-art fourth-generation fighter aircraft could be high on the agenda during Singh’s bilateral talks with his Egyptian counterpart General Mohamed Zaki who is also the Minister of Defence Production.
The two ministers will not only review the bilateral defence ties but also explore new initiatives to intensify military-to-military engagements and focus on deepening cooperation between the defence industries of the two countries.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide further impetus to enhanced defence cooperation between India and Egypt will also be signed.

Jaishankar of India and Catherine Colonna of France – touched on bilateral cooperation relations and strategic partnership and ways to further develop them to support the three countries’ efforts to achieve economic prosperity and sustainable development.
The meeting reviewed a number of issues of common interest, including climate change and ways to promote global efforts to combat it, especially with the UAE hosting the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) in 2023.

India and France are maritime nations with dynamic maritime economy sectors like marine technology and scientific research, fisheries, port and shipping, to name a few. Possessing vast exclusive economic zones, their fate is closely linked to the sea and the ocean.
Both nations intend to make the blue economy a driver of the progress of their respective societies while respecting the environment and coastal and marine biodiversity. Both countries aim to contribute to scientific knowledge and ocean conservation and ensure that the ocean remains a global common, a space of freedom and trade, based on the rule of law.
India and France have traditionally close and friendly relations. In 1998, the two countries entered into a Strategic Partnership which is emblematic of their convergence of views on a range of international issues apart from a close and growing bilateral relationship.
India and UAE enjoy strong bonds of friendship based on age-old cultural, religious and economic ties between the two nations. They established diplomatic relations in 1972. While the UAE opened its Embassy in India in 1972, Indian Embassy in UAE was opened in 1973.
The traditionally strong bilateral relations enjoyed by India & UAE have received an impetus with regular exchange of high-level bilateral visits from time to time. The momentum generated by visits at the highest level was sustained by back-to-back reciprocal visits at the level of Foreign Ministers too.
To review the gamut of bilateral strategic partnership between the two nations, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held discussions with the UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and appreciated his insights on the global situation.
In a tweet, Jaishankar wrote, “Always a pleasure to meet FM Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan of UAE. Reviewed the continuing progress of our partnership. Appreciated his assessments and insights on the global situation.”
Kicking off a jam-packed diplomatic week in New York, ahead of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meeting, Jaishankar on Monday held an in-person meeting with the Foreign Minister of Indonesia Retno Marsudi.
Jaishankar held a set of bilateral talks with his counterparts in the Balkans, Europe and the Caribbean. Over the course of the week, Jaishankar is scheduled to have more than 50 official engagements including bilateral, plurilateral and multilateral meetings.
After concluding his visit to New York on Saturday, he is scheduled to visit Washington for three days starting Sunday for what the External Affairs Ministry said for “a high-level review of the multifaceted bilateral agenda and strengthen cooperation on regional and global issues to consolidate the India-US strategic partnership further”.
In Washington, Jaishsnkar is expected to meet Secretary of State Antony Blinken and other senior officials of the Biden Administration. A round table focused on science and technology is also on the agenda for Washington. (ANI)

This came as the UAE President received the Malaysian minister at the Qasr Al Shati’ Palace in Abu Dhabi, wherein they discussed a number of regional and international issues of interest.
The minister conveyed to Sheikh Mohamed the greetings of King of Malaysia Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah and Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and their wishes of continued progress and prosperity to the UAE people. The UAE President reciprocated the greetings.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, the Advisor of Special Affairs at the Ministry of Presidential Court, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Bowardi, Minister of State for Defence Affairs, Khaldoun Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority, Member of the Executive Council, and a number of officials and the delegation accompanying the Malaysian Minister.
Earlier in the day, Hussein and his accompanying delegation met with UAE defence minister Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Bowardi.
The meeting was attended by Lt. General Hamad Mohammed Thani al-Rumaithi, Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces, and a number of senior officials from the Ministry.
Al Bowardi welcomed the Malaysian Defence Minister and reviewed with him enhancing the deep-rooted ties between the UAE and Malaysia on various fronts.
He then highlighted the strong UAE-Malaysia ties, and discussed the distinguished relations their countries share and prospects for expanding their cooperation across various fields, especially in military and defence, as well as exchanging experiences in this regard for the benefit of their people.
The two sides also exchanged views on a number of regional and global issues of mutual concern.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, chaired the 72nd meeting held virtually, with Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, also participating.
The meeting was attended by Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, and board members Dawood Al Hajri, Director-General of Dubai Municipality; Abdulla bin Kalban, Managing Director of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA); Saif Humaid Al Falasi, CEO of Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC); Juan-Pablo Freile, General Manager of Dubai Petroleum, and Hussain Al Banna, Acting CEO of the Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The meeting discussed several topics, including the results achieved by the Dubai Carbon Abatement Strategy 2030, which aims to reduce 30 percent of carbon emissions by the end of 2030, in support of the UAE’s efforts to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Dubai reduced carbon emissions by 21 percent in 2021, which reflects the effectiveness of the emirate’s programmes and projects. These include increasing the share of solar energy and enhancing the operational efficiency in factories and facilities, in addition to waste recycling in power and water production, industry, ground transport and waste treatment. The Supreme Council also discussed a plan submitted by Emirates Gas Company (an ENOC subsidiary) for the coming period to enhance current gas cylinders to advanced ones in terms of safety and reduced weight.
“In line with the vision and directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to increase the share of clean and renewable energy, the meeting reviewed our roadmap and plans that include national initiatives and strategies to achieve net-zero carbon emissions and consolidate a low-carbon economy. These include the Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100 percent of the total power production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050, and the Dubai Carbon Abatement Strategy 2030, as well as adopting the latest technologies in this area,” Al Tayer said.
“The development and implementation of the existing programmes and projects had a positive and tangible impact, reflected in the carbon emission reduction rates over the past 10 years. This highlighted the efforts made by the relevant authorities that support a sustainable green economy and the UAE’s vision to achieve net-zero carbon emissions,” he added.
“The current plan to shift to using the advanced cylinders ensures better efficiency and more safety for consumers. Emirates Gas has introduced 9,000 advanced cylinders that consumers in Dubai have been satisfied with over the past years,” Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, said.
