The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) announced the launch of the new and upgraded version of the Emirates ID card and the start of its issuance to customers, as part of the new generation of Emirati passports and national identity card project.
Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Acting Director General of the ICA confirmed that “issuing the new generation of the Emirates ID comes within the framework of achieving the vision of the UAE government to develop the system and quality of population data, and provide it with an advanced system based on best practices and international standards in managing personal identity and providing high quality services.”
The new Emirates IDs, like the new generation of Emirati passports, will feature an updated design, and incorporate high-security features that better prevent forgery.
Residents who had applied to renew their Emirates IDs were using an electronic version of the identity card, while waiting for the new generation IDs.
The authority posted photos of the new design and described its advanced security features.
The new card has a longer service life of more than 10 years. It features additional fields like professional data, issuing authority and population group.
The ICA had earlier rolled out an electronic version of the ID via the authority’s app.
The Emirates ID is an identity card issued by the ICA, which is a legal requirement for all UAE citizens and residents.
New designs for Emirati passports and Emirates IDs were first announced in November last year after a Cabinet meeting chaired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The new identity documents feature additional visual and electronic security features to combat identity fraud and to strengthen national and international confidence in travel documents.

Building on the hugely successful campaign film, ‘A Story Takes Flight’ released by Dubai Tourism in 2019 and featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson and Zoe Saldana; this new campaign will see more than 2,000 assets released in 27 countries across 16 languages via cinema, print, broadcast, out of home, digital and social media channels.
Dubai recently marked a year since it reopened its doors to international travellers. Data from Dubai Tourism shows that the city welcomed 4.1 million overnight visitors in a 12-month period from July 2020 to June 2021. This figure underscores the leading role that Dubai continues to play in global tourism recovery offering a safe, appealing, and memorable experience for travellers.
Dubai was one of the first cities globally to reopen its markets and businesses, and continues to stay open. The gradual implementation of a multi-phase recovery programme saw Dubai opening for domestic tourists in May 2020 and international tourists in July 2020. The UAE also has one of the world’s highest per capita vaccination rates.
“Premiering with the Spy-Action trailer, this latest campaign uniquely weaves the art of cinema to showcase Dubai as a truly multifaceted city,” Issam Kazim, CEO, Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism) commented.
“Dubai Presents builds on the successes of our most prominent brand campaigns and marks the next evolution in our marketing strategy as we continue to innovate our platform that not only highlights the city’s iconic locations, enviable lifestyle and infrastructure, but also celebrates Dubai’s appeal as a hub for creative talent in cinema, music, art and design.”
“In this landmark year of Expo 2020 and the UAE’s Golden Jubilee, Dubai Presents invites the world to join us as we showcase the best of the city’s offerings, world-class experiences and infrastructure for global travellers and residents alike, cementing its global appeal as the best city in the world to live in, work and visit,” he added.
Drawing on the city’s status as a global creative hub and a beacon for the international, regional and local community of filmmakers, content creators, and other aspiring creatives, the campaign features storytelling and content creation in all forms.
“Being able to play multiple characters across the series gave me an opportunity to see the city in ways I wouldn’t have imagined,” actress, author and founder of The Honest Company Jessica Alba said. “One moment I was winding my way through the spice souk in Old Dubai, and the next I was on the top floor of the iconic Burj Al Arab performing my own stunt sequence for an action scene. Dubai has so much to offer- from beautiful locations to the amazing food and an energy to match, I loved every part of it.”
Award-winning actor and producer Zac Efron commented: “I’ve been to Dubai previously but I was never able to truly appreciate the city in this way. Despite the fact that I travel often, it is rare to get to have the time and the opportunity to really explore and enjoy the city’s offerings. The desert was particularly special to me such a peaceful and calm landscape and unlike anything I had ever seen. The people of Dubai were incredibly warm and hospitable and invited me to enjoy the culture by their side. I love the idea of discovery and exploration and Dubai did not disappoint.”
Craig Gillespie said that the most exciting thing about the project was being able to use the art of cinema to showcase just how dynamic and diverse Dubai can be.
“For some it is the ultimate luxe adventure, for others, it is a romantic getaway with quirks and nostalgia or an eye-opening journey to discovering culture and heritage,” he said.

The United Arab Emirates has stressed the importance of international cooperation in accelerating the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.
Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, during the first meeting of the International Forum on COVID-19 Vaccine Cooperation hosted by China, said that the UAE is determined to ensure rapid distribution of vaccines and boost global immunity.
Held via video conference and with participation of representatives from over 20 countries, the forum aims to link countries that develop and produce vaccines with companies and stakeholders in order to promote the equitable distribution of vaccines worldwide.
Al Hashemy conveyed that the UAE has been at the forefront of global efforts to combat the pandemic in solidarity with the international community. Since the beginning of the outbreak, the UAE continues to disburse urgent medical supplies globally to support the efforts of various nations to contain the pandemic, she said.
To date, the UAE has dispatched over 2,200 tonnes of medical supplies to more than 135 countries, particularly throughout Africa and Asia. The UAE also plays a major role as a logistical center in the fight against COVID-19, through the Dubai-based International Humanitarian City, which played an integral role in shipping 80 percent of total global medical supplies and preventative equipment in response to the pandemic, she added.
Furthermore, the UAE has supported the establishment of fully-equipped field hospitals (Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Field Hospitals) in Jordan, Guinea-Conakry, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Lebanon, and most recently in Mauritania. These hospitals have contributed to increasing the capacity of health authorities in containing COVID-19.
