UAE issues strict guidelines for Eid Al Adha

The government has declared a four-day holiday in the UAE for public and private sectors, starting July 20 July 22….reports Joy Chakravarty

Anticipating a surge in COVID-19 cases, the UAE government has issued strict guidelines to be followed at mosques and those celebrating Eid Al Adha at home.

The National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority allowed mosques to hold Eid Al Adha prayers, but said that these have to be conducted while following all social distancing norms and COVID-19 protocols issued by the government.

The government has declared a four-day holiday in the UAE for public and private sectors, starting July 20 July 22. This will be followed by weekend and offices will open only on July 25.

On the eve of the festival, the NCEMA tweeted: “Eid Al-Adha prayers will be conducted, provided that the maximum period of Khutbah is 15 minutes, while adhering to all previously applicable precautionary measures.

“Social distancing markers will be placed on prayer spots in outdoor spaces of mosques, public parking and parks adjacent to mosques.

“We confirm that the doors of mosques will be closed directly after prayers. Also, service facilities, such as washrooms, Wudu places and water dispensers shall continue to be closed.”

NCEMA also urged all worshippers to bring their own prayer mats and all individuals living with those infected, or in contact with COVID-19 patients, are strictly prohibited to attend prayers. The authority also recommended that the elderly, children under 12 years and those suffering from chronic diseases to refrain from performing the Eid prayers.

NCEMA issued recommendations that gatherings should be restricted within the family members living together and on performing Al-Adahi (sacrifices).

“Kindly avoid all types of gatherings and shaking hands before and after Eid prayers, and limit greeting and congratulations from a safe distance,” NCEMA added.

“We recommend that gatherings should be limited to the same family living together with the same household and first-degree relatives. It is important to take the test and ensure that everyone is healthy before any visit.

“We recommend that performing Al-Adahi through delegating the UAE official charities to kill and distribute the meat, or via relevant smart apps. Also, avoid exchanging and distributing meat of Al-Adahi, gifts and foods among neighbours.

The number of new cases has remained below 1,600 for the past 10 days – a significant improvement from average 2,000 cases per day in June.

On Tuesday, Dr Farida Al Hosani, official spokesperson of the UAE health sector, warned residents to remain vigilant and follow all guidelines to make sure that the situation did not get out of hand again.

Dr Hosnani cited data from Eid Al Adha last year, this year’s New Year’s Eve and the Eid Al Fitr holidays in May and how the numbers have surged after these celebrations.

Cases rose by almost 500 per cent last year after Eid Al Adha celebrations, jumping from an average of 300 daily to nearly 1,400. New Year’s Eve followed a similar trend, with cases averaging to nearly 3,700 from around 1,400 in December 2020.

“Your commitment to COVID safety measures, especially during festive seasons, will help reduce infection rates. Celebrate Eid safely and enjoy all its goodness. Just follow the safety protocols,” Dr Hosnani added.

An Indian citizen, who purchased his ticket online from Thane, won the $1 million first prize in the latest Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire draw.

On Wednesday, ticket number 0207, which was the chosen one in the 363rd Millennium Millionaire draw, belonged to a 36-year-old seaman, Ganesh Shinde.

Just last week, an Indian taxi driver crowd-funded three Abu Dhabi’s Big Ticket with nine other Pakistani, Bangladesh and Sri Lankan friends, and won the big prize of 20 million dirhams.

Most winners of the Dubai and Abu Dhabi draws are either UAE residents, or people visiting the Emirates as tourists or transiting through to some other country.

And Indians have been pretty lucky, having won the raffle 181 times out of 363 times it has been held since 1999.

But Shinde’s case was rare as he purchased his ticket online from his home country.

Shinde, who is employed with a marine firm in Brazil, said he has been through the Dubai International Airport several times.

He told Gulf News: “It is unbelievable. I am still in shock. I love Dubai and I hope to visit soon.

“I want a new car, a new apartment, I want to save money for my child’s education. So, the list is long. The prize money will serve all these purposes.”

Along with the Millennium Millionaire draw, draw was also conducted for two luxury vehicles – a Range Rover Sport HSE Dynamic 5.0 car, and a BMW R nineT Scrambler motorbike.

An Australia expat, Justin French, won the Range Rover, while 30-year-old Nepali expat Rohit Mote, 30, who works at a supermarket and lives in Abu Dhabi, won the motorcycle.

Emirates awaits UAE nod for India flights resumption

All inbound flights from India were suspended until 21 July due to surge in Delta variant of the COVID-19. The resumption of flights between both countries will be subject to a UAE government review, the Emirates has said, reports Asian Lite Newsdesk

Emirates airline, the flag carrier of United Arab Emirates is waiting government review for the resumption of flights from India and Pakistan.

It said the resumption will be subject to a UAE “government review” and that the carrier will wait for authorities to make a decision, according to a Gulf News report.

During a press conference, Emirates’ Chief Operating Officer Adel Al Redha said the government and command-and-control centres are continuously reviewing their development and the protocols that are required.

“We will wait to see what is coming out from the government, but there is a constant review of the development and the spread of the virus,” the Gulf News quoted Al Redha as saying. He added that the Emirates was “closely monitoring” the situation as the Delta variant spreads to different countries.

All inbound flights from India and Pakistan were suspended until 21 July due to a huge surge in ‘Delta’ variant of the COVID-19. Passengers who have connected through India, Pakistan, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka in the last 14 days will not be accepted to travel from any other point to the UAE.

Only exempted travellers are UAE Nationals, holders of UAE Golden Visas, and members of diplomatic missions who comply with updated COVID-19 protocols.

The date for the resumption of travel has now been postponed several times from the Delta plus variant, which has been found in 12 states in India and has sparked real concerns of a third wave, the Gulf News reported.

Meanwhile, India reported 41,806 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, and 581 deaths due to the coronavirus, said the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Thursday.

With added safety measures and COVID-19 travel requirement checks in place, travellers may encounter longer than expected waiting times at Emirates check-in counters.

Customers starting their journey from Dubai are encouraged to physically check-in and drop their bags early to avoid long wait times. Customers can check-in for their flights up to 24 hours before departure, and those flying to the US can check in 12 hours before departure.

Customers are also reminded to ensure they have all the relevant documents ready and review the latest travel requirements to their booked destination, including whether forms, vaccination certificates or negative PCR tests are required on the Emirates Travel Hub, which has the latest information for every country on the airline’s route network.

Furthermore, all passengers are requested to check in no later than 3 hours prior to departure. Customers who present themselves less than 60 minutes prior to their scheduled flight departure will not be accepted for travel.

Mohamed Al Khaja, UAE Ambassador to Israel, on Wednesday officially inaugurated the UAE Embassy in Tel Aviv in the presence of Isaac Herzog, President of the State of Israel, and Mariam Almheiri, Minister of State for Food and Water Security.

The historic event, and the strengthening of bilateral relations, follow the Abraham Accords Peace Agreement signed between the UAE and the State of Israel in September 2020.

The UAE Embassy is situated in the same tower as Israel’s stock exchange in Tel Aviv, media reported.

“The opening of this embassy is an important milestone in our shared journey towards a future of peace, prosperity and security for the Middle East,” President Herzog said during the inauguration ceremony.

“While seeing the Emirati flag flying proudly in Tel Aviv might have seemed like a far-off dream only one year ago, in many ways, nothing could be more natural.”

Almheiri praised the UAE-Israel relation progress since the signing of the Abraham Accords, saying, “This is a new era of development and prosperity for both our countries. The opening of the embassy represents a major milestone and will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences across various vital sectors. We look forward to new levels of cooperation that will contribute to realizing our visions.”

Meanwhile, Ambassador Al Khaja stated, “It is time for new approaches and thinking to set a new and better path for the future of the region. We hope that the opening of the UAE Embassy in Tel Aviv will mark an important milestone in the growing relationship between our two countries and between the peoples of the UAE and Israel.”

In June, UAE officials had commemorated the inauguration of Israel Embassy in Abu Dhabi as a step towards further strengthening bilateral ties since the signing of the historic Abraham Accords by the UAE and Israel in September 2020.

‏The Israeli Embassy was officially inaugurated by Yair Lapid, Foreign Minister of Israel, in the first-ever visit by an Israeli minister to the UAE. The event also saw the participation of Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, UAE Minister of Culture and Youth.

He also inaugurated the Consulate General of the State of Israel in Dubai on the same day.

Two days ago, the Department of Health-Abu Dhabi (DoH), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sheba Medical Centre in Israel, one of the top 10 medical institutions in the world.

The MoU aimed to create a framework for cooperation in developing and improving healthcare services to meet the needs of a healthier community, as well as enable both entities to consolidate their efforts to improve the country’s healthcare system and provide the highest quality of care for patients, positioning Abu Dhabi as a prominent destination for medical tourism.

The two medical organisations also expressed their interest in collaborating through the exchange of knowledge, best medical practices and methodologies.

The MoU will enable both sides to explore opportunities in the field of health and medical research, which will contribute to a healthier and safer community. Both entities will also cooperate in conducting cutting-edge research and improving healthcare services for patients in several aspects, including telemedicine and the use of artificial intelligence.

Sheba Medical Centre is the largest medical centre in Israel and has been ranked among the top 10 hospitals in the world. It is renowned for its compassionate care and leading-edge services, medical innovations and practices.

Earlier this month, DoH had also signed a MoU with Clalit Health Services, the largest health maintenance organisation in Israel and second largest globally.

Under the terms of the agreement, both parties will aim to contribute to clinical trials and the creation of a productive research environment that identifies valuable and potential research projects, whilst DoH continues to support emirate’s efforts in establishing itself as a leading life science hub and medical tourism destination.

    ADNOC joins Hydrogen Council

Hydrogen and its carrier fuels have great potential as new, low carbon fuels, which ADNOC and the UAE are well placed to capitalize upon….reports Asian Lite News

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) announced that it has joined Hydrogen Council – an international organisation that aims to accelerate the global position of hydrogen through its member companies.

Hydrogen and its carrier fuels have great potential as new, low carbon fuels, which ADNOC and the UAE are well placed to capitalize upon.

The Council, which was launched in 2017, has already grown to include some of the world’s largest, global companies, particularly in the energy and transportation sectors.

According to the organisation, hydrogen is expected to account for as much as 18 percent of global energy demand by 2050, with over 30 countries having released hydrogen roadmaps and more than 228 large-scale projects underway along the value chain.

Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Managing Director and Group CEO of ADNOC, said: “Energy demand continues to increase as global populations expand and economic development accelerates. With an energy transition taking place, this means that more energy is needed with fewer emissions. ADNOC is an early pioneer in the emerging market for hydrogen and its carrier fuels, such as blue ammonia, driving the UAE’s leadership in creating international hydrogen value chains and a local hydrogen eco-system. We are pleased to join the Hydrogen Council and look forward to working with its members and the secretariat to advance the use of hydrogen as a low carbon energy source”

ADNOC’s competitive blue hydrogen production is enabled by its abundant and low-cost hydrocarbons, existing large-scale hydrogen and ammonia production facilities, and its regional leadership in large carbon capture and storage capacities. Its Al Reyadah plant was the first commercial-scale carbon capture facility in the Middle East and the world’s first commercial facility to capture CO2 from the iron and steel industry.

ADNOC plans to leverage its existing hydrogen production, infrastructure and partnership base and vast reserves of natural gas to lead Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s hydrogen activities with the aim to become one of the lowest cost and largest producers of blue hydrogen in the world.

In June, ADNOC announced that Fertiglobe joined as partner to advance a world-scale blue ammonia production facility at the TA’ZIZ industrial ecosystem in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi. The final investment decision is expected in 2022, and start-up is targeted for 2025 for the project. The facility’s capacity will be 1,000 kilotons per annum.

ADNOC is also working with the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, Mubadala Investment Company (Mubadala) and ADQ in the Abu Dhabi Hydrogen Alliance (the Alliance). The Alliance partners will collaborate to establish Abu Dhabi as a trusted leader of low-carbon green and blue hydrogen in emerging international markets.
