    Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, received Ambassador of the Commonwealth of Australia to the UAE in his Palace Heidi Venamor on Monday

    The Minister welcomed the Australian ambassador and discussed with her issues of common interest and means to enhance cooperation relations between the UAE and Australia in various fields.

    Sheikh Nahyan said that the relations between the UAE and Australia are distinguished and are witnessing continuous development thanks to the support of their countries’ leaderships.

    He commended the efforts made by the Australian ambassador in strengthening cooperation ties between the UAE and Australia in various fields and pushing them towards broader horizons in order to achieve development and prosperity.

    For her part, Venamor reiterated her country’s keenness to further develop cooperation with the UAE in a way that serves the interests of the two friendly countries, praising the progress and development of the UAE in various fields.

    The UAE Pro League signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Israeli Professional Football League, that will see the two sides cooperate to further develop the success of the sport in both countries.

    The historic agreement – the first of its kind in the Middle East – is a step towards laying the foundations for cooperation and securing a joint mechanism to achieve practical steps aimed at developing all matters related to football, the UAE Pro League said in a statement.

    The terms of the MoU include holding joint workshops to discuss ways to develop the marketing and promotional side of the competitions, in addition to keeping pace with everything related to sports and football development technology, as well as developing the technical aspect in the football sector.

    A signing ceremony was held on Monday morning, October 26th, via web video conferencing and was attended by Abdulla Naser Al Junaibi, Chairman of the UAE Pro League, and Erez Halfon, Chairman of the Israeli Professional Football League.

    Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy, has discussed bilateral relations shared by the UAE and Spain with Reyes Maroto Illera, Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism of Spain.

    The discussion took place during a virtual meeting between the ministers, with the participation of Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade; and Majid Al Suwaidi, UAE ambassador to Spain; in addition to a number of officials from both sides.

    The meeting discussed prospects for strengthening economic relations between the UAE and Spain, as the volume of non-oil trade exchange was recorded at US$2.5 billion in 2019. The two sides discussed ways to enhance economic and trade cooperation, particularly in the fields of advanced technology, tourism, food security, transportation, air transport and renewable energy.

    Bin Touq affirmed the UAE’s keenness to enhance joint cooperation efforts with Spain to raise the strategic partnership between the two countries to new heights.

    Prime Minister Hamdok hailed the UAE’s humanitarian stances towards the Sudanese people in their difficult times…reports Asian Lite News

    Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, received a telephone call from Abdalla Hamdok, Sudan’s Prime Minister on Tuesday.

    Prime Minister Hamdok hailed the UAE’s humanitarian stances towards the Sudanese people in their difficult times, especially the recent flooding in Sudan which led to human and material losses. The UAE was the forerunner in extending a helping hand to the brotherly people of Sudan.

    The discussion also dealt with a number of issues and topics of common interest, especially those related to developing bilateral relations in various commercial, economic and investment fields in order to realise aspirations of the two countries and serve interests of their people.

    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, MoFAIC, and the US Agency for International Development, USAID, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on reinforcing bilateral relations in the humanitarian and development fields.

    The MoU was signed by Sultan Al Shamsi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for International Development Affairs, and John Rakolta, US Ambassador to the UAE, as part of the cooperation between the two countries in providing development aid and supporting international development.

    The MoU also aims to establish a framework for dialogue and promote international development cooperation in other countries, especially in the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa.

    The UAE and the US plan to exchange knowledge, expertise, and information to draft economic, social, humanitarian and development aid projects, as well as to reinforce the organisational, social and economic capacities of governments, civil societies, and the private sectors in target countries.

    The MoU stipulates coordination between the two countries in several areas, such as humanitarian aid, development aid, energy, cultural heritage, tolerance, international religious rights, economic growth, private sector engagement, agriculture, food security, nutrition, and water.

    The MoU also addresses several areas of cooperation to achieve the desired goals of both sides through the drafting of joint programmes with other regional donors in various countries, in addition to organising events and seminars and exchanging training visits, information, documents and other materials related to successful experiences in international cooperation.

    Emirati Heritage Festival begins at Global Village

    The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority launched the 11th edition of ‘Live Our Heritage Festival’ at Global Village, which is celebrating its Silver Jubilee.

    This edition of the festival will be held under the theme “Genius of Emirati Traditional Crafts” from 25th October, 2020, to 18th April, 2021 and will present visitors with rich and varied heritage events that celebrate ancient Emirati heritage across generations.

    The festival will welcome visitors to Global Village daily from 16:00 to 22:00, presenting them with a rich programme of activations, including traditional coffee, the traditional room, Emirati cuisine, the Tawash profession, Mutawa, traditional crafts, pottery, and date-selling as well as local traditional arts programmes covering distinguished Emirati folk groups who would be performing during the festival, in addition to workshops that focus on the traditional crafts displayed throughout the festival and its stages of development.

    The programme will also include dialogues and educational sessions and meetings with specialists in the field of culture and heritage, as well as workshop presenters and media professionals.

    The programme will also provide an exciting atmosphere through varied and innovative cultural and heritage competitions and challenges that would continue throughout the festival, in addition to a range of other distinctive activities specifically designed around National Day celebrations and World Heritage Day.

    Hala Badri, Director-General of Dubai Culture, stressed the importance of the ‘Live Our Heritage Festival’ in supporting the wise leadership’s directions to consolidate Dubai’s position on the global cultural map and to enhance the Authority’s efforts in preserving local heritage, supporting local craftsmen and artists as well as preserving handicrafts and traditional Emirati heritage and its development.

    She said, “Dubai is a vibrant city that provides its residents and visitors with unique experiences to discover the emirate’s distinct heritage and ancient historical origins through many cultural events and heritage activities.

    The festival is part of our efforts through which we seek to enhance the emirate’s position as a cultural tourism destination on the global stage, and we are keen to reserve a permanent site for us at Global Village, the unique destination that brings the world together in one place.”

    Badri also emphasised the role of the festival’s activities in supporting traditional handicrafts as a national cultural and civilisational asset that resembles an important part of the Emirati identity.

    Dubai To Host IPL Final

    Dubai will host the final of the 2020 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday announced the schedule for the playoffs and the title clash.

    Dubai will host the first qualifier on November 5 after which the eliminator and second qualifier will be played in Abu Dhabi on November 6 and November 8 respectively. The final will be played on November 10. All matches have been scheduled for a 7.30 p.m. IST start.

    Meanwhile, the Women’s T20 Challenge to be played from November 4 to November 9 in Sharjah. The Supernovas, Velocity and Trailblazers will play three matches in the round-robin stage before the final on November 4, 5 and 7.

    While the first and third matches alongwith the final have been scheduled to start at 7.30 p.m. IST, the second match between Velocity and Trailblazers is set for a 3.30 p.m. IST start.

    Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, affirmed that United Arab Emirates declares its enthusiastic support for the values and principles called for by the declaration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of founding the United Nations, which focuses on the transformation from the realm of nationalism, conflicts and injustice to a multi-national culture, and peace and safety for the interest of all mankind.

    ”Welcome to all leaders of the various religious sects in the United Arab Emirates, to participate in presenting a message of peace from the United Arab Emirates to the world through this forum,” declared Sheikh Nahyan in his inaugural speech during the virtual forum, organised by the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence, in cooperation with leaders of various religions, under the title “Peace Message from UAE to the World”.

    In the main session, a large number of religious leaders spoke, including Dr. Mohammad Matar Al Kaabi, Chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments; Bishop Paul Hinder, Apostolic Vicar of Southern Arabia; Raju Shrouf, the Official Representative of the Hindu Temple in Dubai; Gregory Khoury, Bishop of UAE for the Greek Orthodox; Marcus Oates, Head of the Mormon Church of Jesus Christ; Surender Singh Kandahari, Head of the Sikh Temple Guru Nanak Darbar in Dubai; the Reverend Mina Hanna of the Marmina Church in Jebel Ali, Dubai and the Representative of the Gulf Archdiocese; and Rabbi Yehuda Sarna, Executive Director of the Bronfman Center for Jewish Student Life – New York University.

    It also was attended by Afra Al Sabri, Director General of the Office of Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, and a number of the country’s intellectual, community and academic leaders.

    Dubai hosts first post lockdown marathon race

    The first mass running event since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic took place on friday in the heart of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) – the destination where business and lifestyle meets.

    Over 400 runners took part in either the half marathon (21km), 10km or the 5km races – the event included a range of innovative measures from contactless temperature checking, no touch sanitization and water distribution and staggered start times to ensure the safety of all participants. 

    The organisers of the event co ordinated with relevant partners and Government bodies including the Dubai Sports Council and the Supreme Committee on months of planning to ensure that the first mass running event this season met all the strict safety measures.

    Steven Matthijs of Promoseven Sports Marketing said: “We’re delighted with the outcome of this mornings’ event and we’d like to thank the Dubai Sports Council, the RTA, the Dubai Police and our title partner, Mai Dubai for working so closely with us during the difficult climate we are all facing – without them, this event would not have been possible.”

    Alexander van ‘t Riet, CEO of Mai Dubai, said: “The marathon was a success in many ways and the participation it witnessed is a reflection of the rising awareness on the importance of physical activity and of course, hydration.”

    Endorsed by the Dubai Sports Council, the race route started and finished in front of The Gate Building and looped around the picturesque Dubai International Financial Centre, providing runners with breathtaking views of the city’s well-known architectural marvels.

A celebration of Dubai’s creativity and ambition, The Palm Fountain is spread over 14,000 sq ft of sea water and is the only multi-coloured fountain in the city. Its super shooter stands tall at 105 metres and comes alive with over 3,000 LED lights.
