The German vessel MEIN SCHIFF 6 arrived at Mina Zayed, today, with 1,252 vacationers onboard, signaling the start of a much-awaited cruise tourism season.

Inaugurated by Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council in December 2015, the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal was developed by AD Ports Group as the first dedicated permanent cruise infrastructure in the Abu Dhabi Emirate.

The cruise terminal is situated in the heart of Abu Dhabi and operates from Zayed Port, the first commercial port in the emirate. Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal has established itself as a prime gateway for cruise visitors to experience fun-filled opportunities amid Abu Dhabi’s deep-rooted heritage and culture.

Spanning over 7,800 square metres, the spacious and modern terminal can host three vessels simultaneously via 900 metres of available berth space.

An extensive portfolio of services, such as airline check-in for onward travel and baggage services to ease transfers, meet the needs of visitors. Additionally, adjacent to the terminal, a vibrant retail and F&B hub, Marsa Mina, provides a taste of Arabian entertainment and hospitality, while health and safety and guest well-being remains a key focus across all terminal operations.

With world-class terminal operations and services, Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal offers the ultimate destination for international cruise lines and passengers.

Commenting on the phased return to normalcy, Noura Rashed Al Dhaheri, Managing Director – Cruise Business, AD Ports Group, said, “AD Ports Group is delighted to see the resumption of cruise activities in Abu Dhabi, marking the beginning of the cruise season for 2021/2022. In addition, we are also focusing on enhancing the visitor experience by offering a portfolio of services within the terminal. Our aim is to support the future growth of the emirate’s tourism economy and strengthen the UAE capital’s position as a world-class hub for maritime tourism.”

The cars, buggies, bikes and quads assembling at Yas Marina Circuit, will tackle a new route laid out across the dramatic desert landscape of the Al Dhafra Region during months of preparation for their arrival…reports Asian Lite News

The focus of the cross-country rallying world is on the UAE in the final countdown to the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, as a major operation to stage the 30th edition of the spectacular event enters its final stages.

With many of the sport’s top drivers and riders assembling in the UAE capital for the start of the rally on 6th November, 2021, it has taken a complex team effort to set the stage for one of the sport’s most enduring tests on four and two wheels.

The cars, buggies, bikes and quads assembling at Yas Marina Circuit, the official HQ for the rally and its starting and finishing point, will tackle a new route laid out across the dramatic desert landscape of the Al Dhafra Region during months of preparation for their arrival.

Penetrating the northern fringe of the legendary Rub’ al Khali, or Empty Quarter, desert stages of 262km, 333km, 293km, 251km and 216km are centred on a bivouac accommodating an 800-strong contingent of competitors, technicians, officials, medical staff, volunteers and media.

It takes 200 people, many often working through the night, to transform a normally bare desert location, surrounded by a sea of dunes, into a temporary rally village that serves as the event’s active desert base for five nights.

The process of its construction, on-event operations and eventual dismantling over two months underlines the devotion of the rally organisers, the Emirates Motorsports Organisation (EMSO), backed by the UAE Government and local authorities, to protect the region’s desert environment close to the Qasr Al Sarab Resort.

“This is a huge priority, and we are indebted to the government authorities and the UAE Armed Forces for their support to set up and equip the bivouac and make our environmental policies work so effectively,” said Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the EMSO and FIA Vice President for Sport.

The UAE Armed Forces have delivered the bulk of the bivouac’s infrastructure and power. The bivouac’s portable and tended community is taking shape with the assistance of the Cultural Programmes and Heritage Festivals Committee – Abu Dhabi.

When the full force of the rally arrives, teams from Al Dhafra Municipality and Tadweer will combine to provide round-the-clock upkeep of the site, including recycling all waste to ensure no littering of the desert or oil leakages.

Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi Distribution Company will have systems to recycle around 20,000 gallons of water used daily at the location. It all adds up to a fully functional 24/7 bivouac, where mechanical repairs going on through the night have often rescued hopes damaged earlier in the day, turning casualties into winners.

Some of the world’s most enormous dunes stand in the competitors’ way, and they will not have to wait long for this year’s biggest test as the second of five desert stages flows into the Liwa Valleys for a classic cross country rally examination. This, and the following day’s leg, combine to form a new marathon stage for the bikes, with no outside assistance allowed in between.

The challenge is the penultimate round of the 2021 FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies for cars, and the final round of the FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship for bikes.

Taking place under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, the rally is supported by the Ruler’s Representative Court Al Dhafra Region, UAE Armed Forces, Abu Dhabi Aviation, Abu Dhabi Police, ADNOC, Yas Island, Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi Municipality, Al Dhafra Region Municipality, Al-Ain Water and Tadweer.

Israel-UAE negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) are progressing as scheduled…writes Binsal Abdulkader

Israel-UAE negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) are progressing as scheduled, and it will be signed within the nine-month timeframe set by the foreign ministers of the two countries in June 2021, Israel’s ambassador to the UAE said.

“I am very lucky to be the first Israeli ambassador here. For me, the sky is the limit [regarding the potential of bilateral relations]. In order to work and to improve [bilateral] trade figures, we need the CEPA,” said Amir Hayek, who took charge as the first Israeli ambassador to the UAE last week, in his first media interview.

Israel opened its embassy in Abu Dhabi in June this year, headed by Eitan Naeh, who held the rank of Head of Mission. Naeh had been appointed in September as his country’s ambassador to Bahrain.

In an interview with WAM at the Israeli Embassy in Abu Dhabi, Hayek said H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Yair Lapid, Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, in their meeting in Abu Dhabi on 30th June had set a nine-month timeframe to sign the CEPA.

A joint statement issued after the meeting said the two ministers signed an Agreement on Economic and Trade Cooperation. Both sides expressed that they are looking forward to signing a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, and they have commenced discussions on this matter, added the statement.

Hayek revealed that in a conversation with the Israeli Minister of Economy, Orna Barbivai, the latter expressed her commitment to the timeframe to sign the CEPA. “We are pushing, and we will [finish it] on time; I can assure you.”

    First visit to UAE

Hayek never had the chance to visit the UAE in the past but felt at home after arriving here a week ago. “What I see is an amazing, beautiful, smart, warm, and fascinating country! We have close relations between our countries.”

As a business leader, Hayek has worked as CEO of major Israeli companies, besides holding several senior positions at the Israeli government.

“I got a lot from my country. I got an education. I held senior positions in the Israeli government and outside the government. Now it’s my turn to give back. This is why I’m here; to be a part of what has been built between the leaders of our countries,” he explained.

Reinstated visa exemption, Expo 2020 Dubai to boost tourism

Israel has reinstated visa-free travel for Emiratis as of 10th October, which was put on hold due to COVID-induced travel restrictions, the envoy said.

As more than a quarter million Israeli tourists have already visited the UAE since the signing of Abraham Accords, the visa exemption and Expo 2020 Dubai will further increase this number, he said.

“First of all Expo 2020 Dubai is happening for the first time in the region. Many Israelis are coming here to visit Expo. This is a fascinating country and you have no other choice but to fall in love with it.”

He explained that the global event will bring people together, drive business and enhance bilateral relations across the region and the world.

When asked about the potential UAE-Israel cooperation on international issues of mutual concern, the envoy said, “You can put a list of 100 topics that we can cooperate in. As a friendly country, we will talk with you and go forward with you anywhere. We are your friends and this is what’s important. So, I can give you a list of 100 topics. But by next week, it will grow to include 200 topics, and a week later, 400,” he said, with an optimistic smile.

“This is one of our secrets. How to bring people and to make them supporters of the UAE and supporters of the UAE-Israel relations. This is our aim,” he stressed.

The ambassador noted that four Israeli ministers and two deputy ministers visited the UAE last week. “Four of them came to this region for the first time. They are pushing us to do more.”
