Accenture Freezes Pay Hikes In India

Global IT services firm Accenture is reportedly skipping pay hikes for its employees and reducing promotions at senior positions in India and Sri Lanka. Accenture said on Thursday it considers a variety of factors, including the macroeconomic environment, in making its decisions around pay and benefits.

A MoneyControl report, citing an email sent by country managing director Ajay Vij to employees, said that Accenture “will not be paying out hikes to its employees in India and Sri Lanka in 2023 except where it is legally mandated or where it has committed to it in critical skill areas”.

“Given the context of our performance, we will not be providing any stay-at-level (base pay) increases this year except where legally mandated or committed in a few critical skill areas,” he wrote in the email.

Vij said the company “experienced a macro environment that was more challenging than anticipated at the beginning of the FY23 fiscal year”.

“We are postponing our promotions to and within MD, and appointments to SMD, until June 2024 in order to allow ourselves to return to growth so that promotions are affordable”, Vij said in the email.

In a statement to IANS, Accenture said its “rewards philosophy is to provide market relevant pay based on the skills and locations where we operate”.

“We also consider a variety of factors, including the macroeconomic environment in making our decisions around pay and benefits,” the company added.

Accenture has more than 3 lakh employees in India.

Besides, a modest implied growth rate through 2HFY24 for Accenture risks India IT Services players’ FY25 revenue growth estimates as well. This, we believe, is an incremental negative, the report said.

“Given Accenture’s full year guidance is a first peek into potential growth trajectory for FY25, we see its underwhelming guidance as an incremental negative for the sector,” said the report.

“We continue to believe that the unwinding of excess IT spend could keep incremental revenue growth muted through FY24. If Accenture’s commentary is anything to go by, FY25 growth expectations could be at risk as well”, the report noted.

Meanwhile, the hiring index for IT-software/services has declined (year-on-year) in all nine months of this year, reflecting continued softness in demand and uncertainty in the overall environment, according to Emkay Global Financial Services.

IT job index is currently down 49 per cent from its peak levels in July 2022.

Microsoft, Accenture to support 13 Indian startups

Microsoft and Accenture on Wednesday announced the third cohort of the Project Amplify programme, which will support 13 Indian startups with solutions focusing on clean tech, circularity, regenerative agriculture, education and skilling.

The programme will also support the startups with testing and validating proofs-of-concept, reimagining the impact of their solutions through design thinking sessions, access to the latest technologies and guidance from experts at Microsoft and Accenture.

“Through our continued collaboration with Microsoft, we are applying our joint expertise to support social impact startups and help bring their solutions to our enterprise clients across the globe, scaling their impact,” Sanjay Podder, managing director and Technology Sustainability Innovation lead at Accenture, said in a statement.

Moreover, the programme will offer startups access to Microsoft technologies, including up to $1,50,000 in Azure credits, M365 and D365, Visual Studio and GitHub Enterprise access, enterprise-grade Azure engineering support, networking opportunities with other global social entrepreneurs and an array of go-to-market resources.

“In collaboration with Accenture and as part of our Entrepreneurship for Positive Impact Initiative, we are humbled to support bold innovators in India, driving systemic change through their sustainable businesses,” Jean-Philippe Courtois, Executive Vice President and President, National Transformation Partnerships, Microsoft, said in a statement.

Launched in 2020, previous cohorts of the programme focused on addressing issues in food safety, livelihood, education, sustainability, and skilling.

Accenture launches women founders programme in India

Global professional services company Accenture on Friday launched the Women Founders Programme in India to help early-stage, women-led Indian startups in the business-to-business (B2B) deep tech and enterprise SaaS domain grow and advance their businesses.

Under this programme, Accenture will provide selected technology startups in India with an equity-free grant of up to $60,000, along with market and network access and mentoring.

“The technology industry needs active participation of women as technologists and entrepreneurs to strengthen its innovation abilities and drive market-relevant solutions using deep tech,” Mahesh Zurale, senior managing director, lead – Advanced Technology Centers in India, Accenture.

“Accenture is committed to supporting women in technology and helping female entrepreneurs grow their businesses, and the Women Founders Programme in India is one of many initiatives underway to contribute to these efforts,” Zurale added.

Registrations for the Women Founders Programme are currently open to early-stage B2B technology businesses that have at least one woman founder and are focused on advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, internet of things, cloud, blockchain, Web 3.0, metaverse, big data and analytics and extended reality.

The company said that startups applying for the programme must be based out of India and have a working prototype with early adoption metrics.

Applicants will be shortlisted and selected by leaders from Accenture and the ecosystem-based on product differentiation, disrupt-ability quotient, leveraging of deep technologies, commercial viability and founder profile.
