MBS, Sisi tour World Defence Show

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi along with Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia toured the World Defence Show 2022 which is being held in Riyadh…reports Asian Lite News

Both leaders have toured the facilities of the World Defense Show and was briefed on the local, regional and international participations in the military and defense industries sector, which included many diverse military capabilities and new technologies.

They have also toured Al-Turaif historical district, which is recorded on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage List.

Sisi expressed his thanks to Prince Salman for the warm and generous hospitality accorded to him and the accompanying delegation.

During the bilateral meeting, they reviewed aspects of bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and opportunities for developing them in various fields. They also discussed the latest developments at the regional and international arenas as well as efforts exerted towards them. The two sides also discussed issues of common interest.

Sisi urges donor states to support UNRWA

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi has urged donor states to support the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) that provides services to millions of Palestinian refugees…reports Asian Lite News

Sisi’s remarks came on Wednesday during a panel discussion at the World Youth Forum (WYF), currently being held in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh.

The Egyptian President spoke of the huge amounts of money needed for the reconstruction of the Gaza strip, noting that Egypt has already allocated $500 million to rebuild Gaza, Xinhua news agency reported.

“Our role will continue by calling on donor states to advance and not to give up on UNRWA to be able to meet its commitments,” said Sisi.

Egypt will act side by side with donor states for “greater resumption and greater support” for UNRWA to assume its role, he added.

During the session, UNRWA Chief Representative in Cairo, Sahar Al-Jobury expressed her appreciation of Egypt’s role in backing UNRWA and urging international partners to continue their financial support for the agency to help the Gaza strip recover from its crisis.

Egypt brokered in May 2021 a cease-fire between Israel and Palestinian armed groups led by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), which rules the Gaza strip, reaching a truce after 11 days of deadly exchanged strikes that claimed the lives of at least 260 Palestinians and 13 Israelis.

Sisi voices support for Palestine in resuming peace talks

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi has voiced Egypt’s support for Palestine in resuming the stalled Middle East peace talks focusing on Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to the Egyptian Presidency…reports Asian Lite News

Sisi made the remarks on Tuesday during his meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on the sidelines of the ongoing World Youth Forum which is being held in Egypt’s Red Sea report city of Sharm El-Sheikh, according to a statement of the presidency.

The Egyptian President emphasised the importance of achieving a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause in accordance with international legitimacy, and expressed his country’s keenness to support Palestine’s diplomatic efforts to resume the peace negotiations, Xinhua news agency reported.

For his part, Abbas lauded Egypt’s support in the Palestine issue and its effort to help the Palestinian people overcome various challenges.

A consensus was reached on the need to continue intensive consultation and coordination, at both bilateral and trilateral levels (with the participation of Jordan), in order to revive the peace process, the statement said.

Al-Sisi, Macron hold talks on Nile dam

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron discussed the controversial Ethiopian grand dam built on the Nile river, the recent developments in Libya, and counter-terrorism efforts.

During a phone conversation on Sunday, the two leaders also discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in many fields, especially at the economic and military levels, Xinhua news agency quoted Egyptian presidential spokesman Bassam Rady as saying in a statement.

They also talked about the activities of the French companies working on various development projects in Egypt, the spokesman added.

President Sisi touched on the latest developments of the Libyan issue and Egypt’s firm strategic position in this regard, stressing his country’s efforts to support the new interim executive authority in Libya.

Sisi also affirmed the necessity of evacuating Libya from mercenaries and preventing illegal foreign interference in the Libyan affairs.

The two Presidents also exchanged views on the developments of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Grand Dam (GERD) built on the Nile River, Rady said.

Sisi affirmed that Egypt gives this issue the utmost attention within the framework of defending Egypt’s historical rights in the Nile waters through reaching a comprehensive and legally binding agreement by the three countries of Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia on the rules of the filling and operation of the dam.

Macron, for his part, expressed his aspiration to reach a solution that serves the interests of all parties as soon as possible.

The French President also praised Egypt’s vital role in resolving the Libyan crisis, which led to the political path to a solution of the Libyan issue, stressing France’s keenness to continue intensive cooperation and coordination with Egypt in this regard.

The two Presidents also agreed to intensify joint efforts to combat terrorism in the Sahel region, in light of the mutual keenness to support the countries of the region in restoring security and stability and achieving desired development.

They also stressed the challenges posed by terrorism to regional security as a whole.

Both leaders expressed keenness to promote bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially at the economic, investment, development, security and military levels.
