‘Centre plans to pull back troops, revoke AFSPA in J&K’

Shah says the government has banned 12 organisations for their involvement in terror activities, designated 36 individuals as terrorists…reports Asian Lite News

Ahead of the Lok Sabha election, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the central government is considering pulling back some troops from Jammu and Kashmir and leaving law and order to the police.

In an interview with Jammu and Kashmir-based Gulistan News, Shah said the government will leave law and order to the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

“We have plans to pull back troops and leave law and order to the Jammu and Kashmir Police alone. We are strengthening the police, who are at the forefront during the encounter,” Home Minister Amit Shah said.

“The troops will slowly and slowly go to the barracks. Such a design has already been formed. We have made a blue print of seven years,” he added.

The Home Minister also indicated that the government is considering revoking the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in parts of Kashmir.

“We will definitely consider this proposal (revoke the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act. The situation is being normalised. We are speedily considering this proposal,” he said.

The AFSPA gives armed forces personnel, operating in disturbed areas. An area or district is notified as disturbed under the AFSPA to facilitate the operations of the armed forces.

Reacting to the announcement, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti, in a message on social media platform X said, “PDP has consistently demanded the revocation of draconian AFSPA along with a gradual removal of troops. It also formulated an important part of our agenda of alliance, which was wholeheartedly agreed upon by BJP. Der aayee durust aaye”.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also said that under the garb of Article 370, the youth were “pushed down the path of terrorism” in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, which is marching ahead with “peace” since its abrogation nearly five years ago.

“In Jammu and Kashmir, under the garb of Article 370, which was a catalyst for separatist ideology, the youth were pushed down the path of terrorism and were misused by Pakistan,” he said.

On the issues that have emerged around the reservation of SCs, STs and OBCs, Shah said for the first time, the OBCs of J&K have been given reservation by the Modi government and women have been given one-third reservation.

“OBC reservations have been made in the panchayat and the urban local bodies. We have made space for the SCs and the STs. Without reducing the share of the Gujjar and Bakarwals, the Pahadis have been given 10 per cent reservation. And special provisions have been made to accommodate the displaced people from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir,” he said.

The Centre is determined to ensure that these benefits percolate to the grassroots level, he said.

Shah claimed that National Conference (NC) leader Farooq Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti tried their best to create acrimony on these reservations but the people have understood their intentions now.

He asked why the NC did not give reservations to these people in the last over 75 years.

The home minister claimed Abdullah had left for England when terrorism was at its peak. Both Abdullah and Mehbooba have no right to speak about the issue, he added.

“The number of fake encounters that took place during their time has never been matched by any other regime,” he said.

Shah said in the last five years, not a single fake encounter has taken place. Rather, FIRs have been lodged against the people involved in fake encounters, he added.

“We will have a dialogue with the youths of Kashmir and not with the organisations that have roots in Pakistan. They are responsible for the deaths of 40,000 youths,” he said.

He said the Modi government has banned 12 organisations for their involvement in terror activities, designated 36 individuals as terrorists, registered more than 22 cases to stop terror financing and seized properties worth Rs 150 crore.

As many as 90 properties were also attached and 134 bank accounts have been frozen, he said.

“We have enshrined peace, and peace cannot be bought. Whoever wants to have a dialogue has to do so within the ambit of the Constitution,” he said.

Shah said the Hurriyat Conference has no place in the process of dialogue. He also made it clear that the BJP and the entire Parliament believe that the POK is an integral part of India.

“The Muslim brothers are also Indians and the Hindu brothers living in POK are also Indians and the land which has been illegally occupied by Pakistan also belongs to India. It is the goal of every Indian, every Kashmiri to get it back,” he said.

The home minister said in 2010, there were 2564 incidents of stone-pelting, which now is zero. From 2004 to 2014, there were 7217 terror incidents. That has reduced to 2227 from 2014 to 2023, and this is almost a 70 per cent reduction, he said.

Shah said the total number of deaths from 2004 to 2014 was 2829 and it has come down to 915 during 2014-23, which is a 68 per cent decrease.

The deaths of civilians were 1770 and has decreased to 341, which is an 81 per cent drop. The deaths of security forces decreased from 1060 to 574, which is a 46 per cent decrease, he said.

Amit Shah Aims to Quell Naxalism by 2025

He mentioned that the MHA should be flexible both in the allotment of funds as also its usage in the highly LWE-affected districts in Chhattisgarh…reports Asian Lite News

Observing that Left Wing Extremism (LWE) or Naxalism problem has been essentially confined to some pockets within Chhattisgarh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday stressed to eliminate the menace within the next three years.

Shah’s direction came while chairing a review meeting of the LWE situation in Chhattisgarh at Raipur. The meeting was attended by Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers as well as senior officials including Union Home Secretary, Director Intelligence Bureau, Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh, Director General of Central Reserve Police Force, and DGP of Chhattisgarh.

“He (Amit Shah) observed that on account of the combined efforts of the security forces and all the Central and State agencies, the LWE problem has been essentially confined to some pockets within Chhattisgarh. In this context, the Minister mentioned that these areas need to be freed from the Maoist menace within the next three years,” Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement.

In this context, Shah emphasised the need for a detailed roadmap to be drawn up by all the concerned stakeholders, particularly relating to the targeting of the entire ecosystem-sustaining LWE.

Further, the Union Home Minister directed the state police to fill up the remnant security gaps, ensure comprehensive investigations, closely monitor prosecution, choke finance streams and continue intelligence-led operations. He also stressed the need to review all inputs shared through the multi-agency center and operationalize verified inputs.

The Minister stressed the need for saturation coverage of Central and State Govt. schemes in LWE-affected districts and utilization of security force camps to ensure the benefits of these schemes in villages in proximate areas.

He mentioned that the MHA should be flexible both in the allotment of funds as also its usage in the highly LWE-affected districts in Chhattisgarh.

He also highlighted the need for a proactive and sensitive handling of all local grievances about bonafide entitlements. Subsequently, on the directions of the Union Home Minister, a detailed interaction was held by the Union Home Secretary with the Collectors and SSPs of the highly LWE- affected districts.

The Home Minister pointed out that the three internal security situations in J&K, North East and LWE have witnessed a significant improvement with a nearly 75 per cent reduction in violence and geographical constriction by nearly 80 per cent.

He also mentioned that the Armed Forces Special Power Act has now been withdrawn from close to 80 per cent of the areas in the North East. While appreciating the progress achieved in the fight against LWE, the Union Home Minister stated that there has been a significant reduction both in LWE-affected geographies and violence. (ANI)

According to the agenda released, the Home Minister will also move the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Second Amendment) Bill, 2023, which seeks to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. The Bill was cleared in the Lower House on December 12.

‘World needs common strategy to fight security challenges’

Union Home Minister, in G-20 Conference, emphasised the need to devise common strategy to deal security challenges, from ‘Dynamite, Metaverse’ to ‘Hawala to Crypto currency…reports Asian Lite News

Addressing a G20 conference in Haryana, the Union Home Minister also stressed the urgent need for cooperation, both at the national and international levels, to build cyber resilience in an increasingly connected world while speaking at the G20 Conference on Crime and Security in the age of the Non-Fungible Token (NFT), Artificial Intelligence (Al) and Metaverse’. Apart from G20 members, nine guest countries, and two major international organisations, INTERPOL and UNODC, as well as various international speakers are participating in this Conference.

Shah also focussed on the requirement of adequate attention on cyber security in the wake of its economic and geo-political implications in this digital age. He said it is essential to strengthen the capabilities of nations and international organizations to deal with new and emerging, traditional and non-traditional challenges, including terrorism, terror financing, radicalization, narco, narco-terror links, and misinformation in a better way.

“The transformation of our security challenges from ‘Dynamite to Metaverse’ and ‘Hawala to Crypto currency’ is a matter of concern for the countries of the world. And all of us, together, have to devise a common strategy against it,” Shah added.

He said further that terrorists are finding new ways to perpetrate violence, radicalise youth and raise financial resources, and that new methods in the form of virtual assets are being used by terrorists for financial transactions.

Noting that the theme of India’s G20 presidency is ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ or ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’, Shah said it reflects the country’s cultural heritage. The theme is perhaps the most relevant in today’s ‘Digital World’, he noted.

He said the technology has transcended all conventional geographical, political and economic boundaries, adding, “Today we live in a big global digital village.”

“Although, technology is a positive development in bringing human beings, communities, and countries closer, there are also some anti-social elements and global forces, that are using technology to cause economic and social harm to citizens and governments. Therefore, this conference becomes all the more important as it can be an important global initiative towards coordinated action to make the digital world safer for all,” Shah added.

He said initiatives for ‘digital delivery of services’ have transformed India into a ‘Digital Nation’ within a decade. But at the same time, Shah pointed out, the possibilities of cyber threats have also increased.

“According to Interpol’s ‘Global Trend Summary Report’ for the year 2022, some of the cybercrime trends such as ransomware, phishing, online scams, online child sexual abuse, and hacking are posing serious threats across the globe. There is a possibility that these cyber crimes will increase manifold in the future,” he added.

In this context, Shah said, this summit is a new and unique initiative of the G20 Presidency. “This is the first conference on cyber security in the G-20. The G-20 has so far focused on digital transformation and data flow from an economic perspective, but now iit is very important to understand the aspects of crime and security and find a solution. It is our endeavor to stay ahead in the era of NFT, Al, Metaverse, and other emerging technologies by responding in a timely manner to new and emerging threats in a coordinated and cooperative approach,” the Union Home Minister said.

Greater focus on cyber security at the G20 forum can make a positive contribution to ensuring the security and integrity of critical ‘information infrastructure’ and ‘digital public platforms’, he added.

“Discussion on cyber space security and cyber crime on the platform of G-20 will help in the development of the ‘Intelligence and Information Sharing Network’ and will give a boost to ‘Global Cooperation’ in this field,” he added.

Shah further said the objective of this conference is to promote a secure and efficient international framework for empowering and securing ‘digital public goods’ and digital ‘ public infrastructure’ as well as optimally harnessing the power of technology. (ANI)

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address the inaugural session of the G20 conference on crime and security to be held in Gurugram on July 13, the ministry of home affairs said in a statement.

The two-day ‘G20 Conference on Crime and Security in the Age of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), Artificial Intelligence and Metaverse’ will bring together over 900 participants from member countries, nine special invitee countries, international bodies and technology leaders and domain experts from India and across the world, it added.

The conference is envisaged as an opportunity to forge a global partnership to build safe cyberspace and prioritise cybersecurity concerns, according to a statement.

The proceedings will focus around cyber security and measures to counter cybercrime in the context of new and emerging technologies like Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Metaverse.

Cybersecurity has become an essential aspect of security-related affairs internationally and requires adequate focus owing to its economic and geopolitical implications.

The deliberations on cybersecurity and cybercrime prevention at the G20 forum will also help in the development of an information-sharing framework. The conference will provide a platform for cutting-edge ideas, knowledge exchange and networking with visionaries around the globe, it added.

Amit Shah claims success in India’s war against drugs

The effect of our comprehensive and coordinated fight against drugs is that where drugs worth Rs 768 crore only were seized in 2006-13, it has increased almost 30 times to Rs 768 crore in 2014-22…reports Asian Lite News

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday applauded the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and other organisations for their relentless efforts in the fight against drugs on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Shah said that in the last few years, the MHA has revamped the entire strategy to realise the PM’s vision of a ‘Drug-Free India’, and that the registration of cases against drug peddlers in the country rose by 181 per cent during the nine years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the policy of zero tolerance against narcotics adopted by the Ministry of Home Affairs is showing successful results today. One of the main pillars of this policy is the “Whole of Government Approach” of the Modi government, in which the coordination of different departments makes the policy more effective, he said.

In a video message, Amit Shah said, “On the occasion of the ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’, I congratulate all the organisations and people fighting against drugs. It is a matter of great pleasure that the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is organizing ‘Nasha Mukt Pakhwada’ at the all-India level this time.”

The Union Home Minister further said, “It is our resolve that we will not allow the narcotics trade in India, nor will we allow drugs to be routed to the world through India. In this campaign against drugs, all the major agencies of the country, especially the ‘NCB,’ are continuously fighting their war.”

To strengthen this campaign, the Ministry of Home Affairs established NCORD in 2019, and the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) was formed in the police departments of every state; the first national conference of ANTF was held in April 2023 in Delhi, he said.

Amit Shah said that the campaign against drug misuse and side effects is being carried out on a war footing at the national level through appropriate forums.

The effect of our comprehensive and coordinated fight against drugs is that where drugs worth Rs 768 crore only were seized in 2006-13, it has increased almost 30 times to Rs 768 crore in 2014-22.

“181 per cent more cases have been registered against drug peddlers in comparison to the earlier period. This shows the commitment of the Modi government towards a drug-free India,” said Shah, while adding that they also launched a destruction campaign to prevent the re-use of seized drugs in June 2022; under this campaign, around 6 lakh kg of seized narcotics have been destroyed nationwide.

The Union Home Minister also said that whether it is about destroying drug cultivation or spreading public awareness, the Ministry of Home Affairs, in coordination with all institutions and states, is making every possible effort for a “drug-free India”, but this battle cannot be won without people’s participation.

“On this occasion, I appeal to all my countrymen to keep themselves and their families away from drugs. Drugs not only make the young generation and society hollow but the money earned from their smuggling is used against the security of the country. I appeal to the people to take an active part in this war against its misuse and inform the security agencies about the drug-trade taking place around them,” he said.

Amit Shah also said that I am sure that with collective efforts, we all will be able to root out the problem of drugs and achieve our goal of a ‘drugs-free India’. I congratulate the NCB again and other institutions for their contribution in working towards the resolution of the Modi government, and I hope that we will not rest unless we win this fight against drugs. After Shah’s departure, Raj BJP walks alone on padyatra

While veteran leaders said goodbye to Shah after being given a message to stay together, Poonia stunned all by starting this padyatra all alone…reports Asian Lite News

The factionalism in the Rajasthan BJP was exposed once again when party state president Satish Poonia went on a ‘padyatra’ from Pokaran to Ramdevra all alone as no other senior leader of the BJP joined him.

Surprisingly this episode happened a few hours after Union Home Minister Amit Shah departed from Jodhpur on Sunday. Shah was there to inaugurate a border tourism project, and to address the party’s national OBC working committee and booth presidents.

While veteran leaders said goodbye to Shah after being given a message to stay together, Poonia stunned all by starting this padyatra all alone.

He posted on social media: “There will be sunshine in the journey, let’s walk. Everyone is in the crowd, if you can go out, then go. Where do paths change for someone? If you can change yourself then come on.”

Poonia started his journey on foot from Gomat village after visiting Jajwala Mata temple in Pokaran at 2 p.m., travelled 8 kms to reach Ramdevra at 5 p.m. Even after Poonia’s social media post, none of the senior party leaders and Union ministers joined him, but on the way, local leaders joined him in the padyatra. Poonia prayed for the prosperity and progress of the country and the state after having darshan of Baba Ramdevra.

Those who accompanied Poonia during the padyatra were MLA Pabbaram Vishnoi, former MLA from Pokhran Shaitan Singh Rathod, Chhotu Singh, Mahendra Pratap Puri Maharaj, District President Chandraprakash Sharda, former District President Jugal Kishore Vyas, among others.

Poonia shared pictures of his visit at Ramdevra temple and said on his Twitter, “After darshan of Jajwala Mataji in Pokhran along with Sant Shri Pratap Puri Ji Maharaj, reached Runicha Dham and bowed head at Baba Ramdev ji. Prayed for the prosperity of the BJP family and of the state and for disease-free Gaumata.”

Meanwhile, through his social media post, he tried to give a clear message to the BJP leaders that he is not going to change his ways and programmes on the advice of someone. Whoever wants to walk with him can walk.

Earlier on September 6, Poonia, Union Ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Kailash Chaudhary had planned a padyatra from Pokaran to Ramdevra. According to sources, a complaint was conveyed to the party high command in Delhi by a state leader of the opposition faction that he and several party leaders were not invited to attend the padyatra.

Hence this march was cancelled on the directions of party high command. Now after Amit Shah’s visit, Poonia did not accompany the party leaders and left for Ramdevra from Pokaran all alone to give a look of a private religious padyatra. Shekhawat and Chaudhary were also not with him.

Earlier, Poonia gave a warm send off to Union Home Minister Amit Shah at Jodhpur airport on Sunday morning. During this, State Organisation General Secretary Chandrashekhar, former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Deputy Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathod, Union Minister Kailash Chaudhary, MP Rajendra Gehlot, P.P. Chaudhary, C.P. Joshi amongst others were present with him. The BJP’s Rajasthan team was hosted for a tea party at the residence of Pali MP P.P. Chaudhary in Jodhpur where Vasundhara Raje and Poonia could be seen sitting together.
