Uddhav asks cadres to gear up for Assembly polls

SS(UBT) sources said that Thackeray has asked the cadres to avoid the mistakes made during the implementation of the poll management strategy, while preparing for the Assembly elections…reports Asian Lite News

A week after the Lok Sabha results were announced, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Monday asked the party workers to step up their outreach with voters for the victory of 180 Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) candidates in the forthcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections in September-October.

His message to the cadres was not to be complacent after the MVA’s victory on 30 seats against the Mahayuti’s 17 in the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections, but gear up for a repeat stellar performance in the Assembly polls.

Thackeray was speaking at a meeting with party office-bearers, district heads and elected representatives. Thackeray emphasised on the need for the cadres to work hard to further improve SS(UBT)’s performance on the nine Lok Sabha seats won by the party.

He also asked them to focus on strengthening coordination with allies, including NCP(SP) and the Congress for victory in rest of the constituencies.

SS(UBT) sources said that Thackeray has asked the cadres to avoid the mistakes made during the implementation of the poll management strategy, while preparing for the Assembly elections.

Thackeray has announced that he will soon start a Maharashtra tour and asked the party workers not to worry about seat allocation. Thackeray said that all MVA constituents will work as a team to defeat the Mahayuti in the ensuing Assembly elections.

‘Not running away, will win fort again’

After taking responsibility for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s dismal performance in Maharashtra, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis asserted that he is not “running away” and assured of winning the “fort” again.

“I have taken the responsibility of election. Devendra Fadnavis is not a man who runs away, is a man who fights and we will win the fort again,” Fadnavis said during his address at BJP MLA meeting.

Revealing about having the blueprint available with him to win the polls next time, Fadnavis said, “I had some strategy in my mind. Now we will make Maharashtra’s blueprint. I have a political arithmetic. We have got two lakh votes more in Mumbai. But they won 4 seats and we won only two seats.”

Attacking the Opposition for coming up with false accusations and a narrative of BJP thinking of changing the Constitution, the Deputy CM said, “They came up with a false narrative. Changing the Constitution. This false narrative is only for one election. PM Modi has done a pooja of the Constitution. He said the Constitution is most important for him.”

On the Maratha reservation, Fadnavis said, “They also made a false narrative in the Maratha community. They did not support Maratha reservation every time.”

Veteran politician and former Gujarat chief minister Shankersinh Vaghela on Sunday floated a new party, Praja Shakti Democratic Party. His party will contest the upcoming assembly elections in Gujarat.

Declaring his intent about his re-entry into electoral politics, Vaghela told the local media in Gandhinagar, “People are looking for BJP’s alternative. For me doors of BJP, Congress and AAP are closed, so I decided to launch Praja Shakti Democratic Party, the party was registered a year and half ago. Now we have a party.”

Vaghela on his Facebook page has already made a plethora of promises to people of the state like – Rs 12 lakh health insurance protection for family earning Rs 12 lakh per annum, free education for children of such family till class XII, unemployment stipend for youth till they get employment, exemption from water tax, free electricity up to 100 units of consumption, loan waver for farmers, relief in electricity bills, new scientific liquor policy, etc.

Vaghela had met BJP leader Subramanian Swamy and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibbal in Delhi on Saturday. He has requested them to extend support, if they feel Vaghela is doing the right thing by launching a regional party.

In 2017 too, Vaghela had launched regional party Jan Vikalp and contested elections, but couldn’t even get 1 per cent vote and neither win single seat in the state. He himself did not contest the election.
