Ayan Mukerji’s Bollywood action fantasy ‘Brahmastra Part One: Shiva’ was one of the leading films at the global box office over the weekend, grossing $28.2 million, or a whopping Rs 224 crore, report ‘Variety’ quoting the film’s producers, Disneys Star Studios India and Dharma Productions.

The film released in India across 5,019 screens and debuted at No. 1 with a three-day weekend of Rs 125 crore. The film’s overseas screen count was 3,894.

In the US, where the film is distributed by Disney, it was released in 810 theatres and debuted at No. 2 with $4.4 million (Rs 34.9 crore), ‘Variety’ noted, adding that the film needs to sustain its momentum to break even, with its budget said to be Rs 410 crore.

Should ‘Brahmastra’ continue its strong box office run, ‘Variety’ notes, it will come as a much-needed relief for Bollywood, with only three films emerging as hits in 2022 so far — Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Kashmir Files’, Anees Bazmee’s ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, which is headlined by Alia Bhatt, who plays a lead character in ‘Brahmastra’

‘Song from ‘Brahmastra’ emanates an impeccable, positive energy’

The song is pivotal to Shiva’s character development in the film and does absolute justice to the concept of ‘Love, Light and Fire’…reports Asian Lite News

After receiving huge traction on social media and positive response to the ‘Kesariya’ song, the makers of the mythological-fantasy film ‘Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva’, released the second song from the album on Monday.

Titled ‘Deva Deva’, the song exudes spirituality and a distinctly upbeat rhythm. It has been sung by Arijit Singh and Jonita Gandhi. The song encapsulates the magical moment in the film where Shiva, played by Ranbir, finds the power within.

Talking about his experience of the song, the Bollywood star shared: “I thoroughly enjoyed the song, and could relate to it on so many levels personally. Pritam Da, Arijit, Amitabh, and Ayan have put in a lot of effort to create this masterpiece. The song makes one feel spiritually powerful with a rare ease, and I hope everyone feels and enjoys it as much as I did.”

The lyrics of the song have a unique blend of love and devotion as Shiva, the protagonist discovers his abilities of fire. The song is pivotal to Shiva’s character development in the film and does absolute justice to the concept of ‘Love, Light and Fire’.

Sharing his experience of recording the song, playback singer Arijit said in a statement: “It has been an absolute pleasure to voice ‘Deva Deva’. The song emanates an impeccable, positive energy that will certainly resonate with everyone. I’m really excited about it. I hope the audience enjoys it to the fullest.”

The song has been composed by Pritam Chakraborty with lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The two powerhouse artistes have collaborated earlier at a number of occasions and have delivered steady hits; case in point, ‘Dangal’, ‘Kalank’ and ‘Jagga Jasoos’.

Sharing his experience on composing the track, Pritam said: “‘Brahmastra’s’ album has made me think aloud in terms of bringing in spiritual elements within a song. With ‘Deva Deva’, we have modernised the music, while keeping classical and devotional elements prominently. This spiritual song gives an otherworldly experience, and it was honestly enlightening to create it. I hope it’s a treat for everyone.”

The song is available to stream on YouTube and across all audio streaming platforms.

Produced by Star Studios, Dharma Productions, Prime Focus and Starlight Pictures, ‘Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva’ will release theatrically on September 9 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

Ayan : I am not a superhero nerd

The 38-year-old filmmaker, who has previously helmed films such as ‘Wake Up Sid!’ and ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, has bent towards fantasy…reports Asian Lite News

Filmmaker Ayan Mukerji is all geared up for the release of his upcoming film ‘Brahmastra’, which he stresses is not a superhero film but a fantasy version of the director trying to write his “modern version” of something from a myth.

‘Brahmastra Part One: Shiva’ stars Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Mouni Roy, and Nagarjuna Akkineni.

‘Brahmastra’ is a three-part film franchise and the beginning of India’s first original universe, the Astraverse. It is a new original cinematic universe inspired by deeply rooted concepts and tales in Indian mythology but set in the modern world.

Talking about if he is a superhero nerd and how he drew inspiration to make a film on such a big scale, Ayan in a conversation with said: “I am not a superhero nerd. I love some of the superhero films like ‘Avengers’ and ‘Spiderman’… I am not the biggest superhero fan.

“I would like to say that I am more of a fantasy film fan. And I honestly think ‘Brahmastra’ is not a superhero film. It is not about a guy wearing a costume and necessarily saving people.”

The 38-year-old filmmaker, who has previously helmed films such as ‘Wake Up Sid!’ and ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, has bent towards fantasy.

“It (‘Brahmastra’) is just a fantasy epic story which has a lot of dramatic scope and in some way it is a fantasy version of me trying to write my modern version of something from myth. Like the scope that myth has but in a modern way.”

The director says he takes inspiration from “gods and goddesses” among many other things related to Indian culture.

“I am probably more affected by things from Indian roots by our gods and goddesses, by stories of Indian history, perhaps more than superheroes. It’s a combination of influences that have affected me in this film.”
