An exclusive feature by FnB columnist Riccha Grrover for Asian Lite International.

Menu highlights included sweetcorn and coconut tikki with green mango salsa, Coorg lamb pepper fry, garlic herb and butter poached chicken breast, and a chocolate and orange dessert.

Following the reception diners indulged in a lavish bottomless Bellini lunch with finger-licking dishes like Garhwal goat osso bucco, butter paneer, grilled freshwater tiger prawns and a lot more. It was an ideal way to toast to the grand occasion. There was also a live-streaming of the procession, so guests could take in all of the coronation action.

The vibe at the restaurant was momentous, the service was exceptionally spot on and overall the fine dining experience was one of a kind.

Fashion at the coronation

Olena Zelenska, the first lady of Ukraine, looks very stunning at a royal occasion in an icy blue dress and coat ensemble…reports Asian Lite News

King Charles III’s coronation has received a lot of attention, including what his guests choose to wear. The requests for visitors to dress in regal robes or ceremonial clothes were dropped in favour of a more casual, and an understated appearance.

There are probably few occasions in history that are more momentous than the coronation of a new monarch, and fashion at a royal ceremony is crucial.

Emma Thompson

British actor, Emma Thompson, appeared at the ceremony wearing a red overcoat from Emilia Wickstead with a monochromatic red rose print and her Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) medal as an accessory.

Nick Cave and Katy Pery

Nick Cave, an Australian artist, looked stylish in a three-piece black suit and Gucci horsebit loafers, while Katy Perry wore a pink skirt suit and a pearl choker by the late British designer Vivienne Westwood, who passed away in December 2022.

Olena Zelenska

Olena Zelenska, the first lady of Ukraine, looks very stunning at a royal occasion in an icy blue dress and coat ensemble.

Jill Biden and Finnegan Biden

In what could be interpreted as a sartorial nod to demonstrate support for Ukraine, First Lady Jill Biden wore a periwinkle blue Ralph Lauren skirt suit with a matching hair bow, and was accompanied by her granddaughter Finnegan Biden in a stylish light yellow cape dress by Markarian.

Princess Anne

Princess Anne made an appearance in a military outfit covered in thick gold braid to fulfil her duties as the “Gold Stick in Waiting” in charge of the monarch’s safety. Anne is a colonel in a number of overseas regiments, so she is not unfamiliar with wearing a uniform.

Justin Trudeau and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau

On his approach to Westminster Abbey, Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister, was seen along with his wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau who shone in a blush-toned satin dress with organza sleeves, brightening the gloomy day.

Coronation watched by more than 18 million viewers

Coverage on BBC One peaked at 13.4 million and the BBC Two accessible signed version of the coronation peaked at 1.7 million, according to Variety…reports Asian Lite News

Over 18 million viewers watched King Charles III’s Coronation across all channels in the UK on Saturday. The ceremony, which saw the King and Queen Camilla crowned, was broadcast simultaneously across several channels between 11:00 and 13:00 BST.

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96 on September 8, Charles then took on the role of Monarch, with the Coronation acting as the symbolic event.

Coverage on BBC One peaked at 13.4 million and the BBC Two accessible signed version of the coronation peaked at 1.7 million, according to Variety.

Charlotte Moore, chief content officer for the BBC, said in a statement: “The BBC brought people across the UK together to share a once in a generation event with over 14 million watching the King being crowned live.”

She added: “I’m proud of the unique and special role the BBC plays in delivering audiences moments of such huge historical significance and the celebrations continue with our Coronation Concert tonight.”

ITV reported an average of 3.3 million viewers watched their coverage and Sky’s coverage peaked at 800,000 across Sky News and Sky Showcase and Channel 4 and Channel 5 both opted out of airing the King’s Coronation.

It is the most-watched event so far in 2023. Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral was watched by around 37.5 million viewers in the UK on September 19 2022.

More than 50 UK channels broadcast the service, and according to Deadline, around 4 billion people across the world tuned in to say goodbye to Her Majesty.

King Charles III paid a moving tribute to his late mother at the time, which read: “The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family. We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother.”

Prince of Wales praises his father at Coronation Concert

Turning back to his father’s crowning, the prince continued, “For all that celebrations are magnificent, at the heart of the pageantry is a simple message. Service,” the Prince of Wales said…reports Asian Lite News

A day after King Charles and Queen Camilla, were crowned at Westminster Abbey, the Prince of Wales delivered a special speech dedicated to his father at the Coronation Concert.

Standing before a cheering crowd and thanking those behind the epic evening, Prince William began, “I want to say a few words about my father and why I believe this weekend is so important. But don’t worry, unlike Lionel, I won’t go on all night long,” he joked in a nod to the “All Night Long” hitmaker, whose performance preceded his remarks, reported People. “As my grandmother said when she was crowned, ‘Coronations are a declaration of our hopes for the future,’ ” Prince William said, quoting Queen Elizabeth’s coronation speech from 1953. “And I know she’s up there, fondly keeping an eye on us. She would be a proud mother.”

Turning back to his father’s crowning, the prince continued, “For all that celebrations are magnificent, at the heart of the pageantry is a simple message. Service,” the Prince of Wales said.

“My father’s first words on entering Westminster Abbey yesterday were a pledge of service. It was a pledge to continue to serve. Because for over 50 years, in every corner of the U.K, across the Commonwealth and around the world, he has dedicated himself to serve others, both current and future generations, and those whose memory must not be neglected,” reported People.

“Take the natural world. He warned us of the risks to our planet’s health long before it was an everyday issue,” William said, pointing to his father’s lifelong passion for conservation and the environment. “Or the Prince’s Trust. It has supported over a million young people, many from disadvantaged backgrounds, to realize their ambitions,” he continued, referencing Charles’ namesake charity, established 1976.

“And, perhaps most importantly of all, my father has always understood that people of all faiths, all backgrounds, and all communities, deserve to be celebrated and supported,” the Prince of Wales added, emphasizing his father’s interest in and dedication to interfaith relations. “Pa, we are all so proud of you.”

“I also want to express my pride and gratitude for the millions of people who serve, in the forces, in classrooms, hospital wards and local communities,” William continued. “I wish I could mention you all. Your service inspires us, and tonight we celebrate you too.”

“I commit myself to serve you all. King, Country and Commonwealth,” he concluded. “God Save the King.”

Prince William’s speech echoed his appearance at the Platinum Party at the Palace, which took place in June 2022 as part of the celebrations to mark his late grandmother Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years on the throne, reported People.

During the May 6 crowning ceremony, Prince William knelt before King Charles, placed his hands between his father’s and vowed to serve him. He said, “I, William, Prince of Wales, pledge my loyalty to you and faith and truth I will bear unto you, as your liege man of life and limb. So help me God.” (ANI)

All about Prince Harry’s Dior custom-designed suit

Taking to Twitter, Dior expressed the honour of designing the outfit for the Duke of Sussex.

The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, on Saturday, attended King Charles III’s coronation in a historic ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London.

For the coronation, Prince Harry opted for a custom-made black suit by Dior, a white shirt and a grey silk tie. Taking to Twitter, Dior expressed the honour of designing the outfit for the Duke of Sussex.

They tweeted, “Tailoring fit for royalty. Dior is honored to have dressed Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, for the coronation of King Charles III in a custom design by Kim Jones. Seen arriving at Westminster Abbey, gain an insight into the savoir-faire of his three-piece suit next.”

According to People Magazine, he also wore his Afghanistan service medal along with the Golden Jubilee, Diamond Jubilee and Platinum Jubilee medals. Harry also sported his KCVO neck decoration and star.

Several pictures of Prince Harry from the coronation went viral on social media.

Prince Harry, the King’s younger son, travelled to the UK from the US, and his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, stayed home with their two young children.

Harry stepped down as a working member of the royals in 2021, and the coronation marks the first time he’s been seen publicly with family members since the release of his memoir, “Spare.”

Prince Harry also did not appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace after King Charles III’s coronation.

After the congregational portion of the ceremony concluded, Prince Harry appeared to leave. Harry, unlike his family, was not allowed to appear on the balcony with his relatives since only working royals are permitted to do so, reported People Magazine. (ANI)

Princes Harry, Andrew Pushed to third row

Both Harry, 38, the Duke of Sussex, and 63-year-old Andrew, the Duke of York, were in the royal ranks for the coronation at London’s Westminster Abbey, albeit without a formal role.

Princes Harry and Andrew attended the coronation of King Charles III but were relegated to the third row of the royal family seating — and did not join them later Saturday on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

Charles’s younger son Harry and his American wife Meghan quit royal duties in 2020 and have since unleashed a string of barbed attacks on the monarchy.

Andrew, the king’s eldest brother, has been frozen out over his past association with the disgraced late US financier Jeffrey Epstein and a related sexual abuse allegation which was settled out of court.

But both Harry, 38, the Duke of Sussex, and 63-year-old Andrew, the Duke of York, were in the royal ranks for the coronation at London’s Westminster Abbey, albeit without a formal role. Andrew was driven in a state car from Buckingham Palace to the Abbey and part of the crowd in a grandstand in front of the palace booed as he went past.

Harry and Andrew walked into the abbey with other members of the Windsor family. It was the first time Harry has joined his family since subjecting them to a torrent of stinging criticism in his recent memoir “Spare” and in a series of television interviews.

Meghan has remained in California with the couple’s young children, thereby avoiding potentially awkward interactions with her in-laws.

Smiles in the abbey

Former British Army captain Harry, who served in Afghanistan, was wearing a morning suit with his medals, while Andrew — who flew Royal Navy helicopters in the 1982 Falklands War — wore his robes as a knight of the garter.

Harry was seen chatting with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, husband of his cousin Princess Beatrice, Andrew’s elder daughter. He also had a quick word with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, after entering the Great West Door.

Welby married Harry and Meghan at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in May 2018. Both Harry and Andrew were seen smiling as they walked through the abbey to their seats.

They were both seated on the third row — out of keeping with their places in the line of succession to the throne.

Harry is fifth in line, following his brother Prince William, and William’s three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis of Wales.

Andrew is eighth in line, coming after Harry and his children — Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet of Sussex. Andrew sat at the end of the row next to Beatrice. Harry sat next to Jack Brooksbank, the husband of Andrew’s younger daughter Princess Eugenie, the cousin who is perhaps Harry’s closest ally in the family.

Balcony no-show

The pair were absent from the horse-drawn procession through central London back to Buckingham Palace, with Harry seen getting into a car to leave the abbey.

Saturday marks Archie’s fourth birthday, so Harry seemed to have made a swift exit back to his home in California. Neither he or Andrew appeared with the royal family on the Buckingham Palace balcony following the ceremony.

Andrew’s links with Epstein — boyfriend of the prince’s friend Ghislaine Maxwell — came back to haunt him. A US woman, Virginia Giuffre, said she was pressured to have sex with Andrew when she was 17 after being delivered by Epstein, who was convicted in 2008 of procuring a child for prostitution.

Andrew denied the allegations in a November 2019 BBC interview that nonetheless went down badly. Within days, he stepped back from his patronages and in May 2020 he permanently resigned from all public roles.

The case was settled out of court in February 2022, with Giuffre accepting a donation to her charity and no admission of liability from Andrew. He took part in events surrounding Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral but, beyond mourning his mother, Charles has shown no sign of allowing Andrew a return to public life.

Coronation was just amazing to see, says Jill Biden

An American president has never attended a British coronation and President Joe Biden asked the first lady to represent the U.S. in his place.

First lady Jill Biden, who represented the United States at Saturday’s coronation of Britain’s King Charles III, said there was “such beauty in the pageantry of the ceremony” and it was “just amazing to see.”

“You can’t imagine that moment where you actually see the crown being placed on the head of the king and then on the head on the queen,” she said during a telephone interview with The Associated Press after the ceremony in London. “It’s really surreal to see and experience that moment.”

Charles’ wife, Camilla, also was crowned queen during Britain’s first coronation in 70 years. His mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died last September after a seven-decade reign.

An American president has never attended a British coronation and President Joe Biden asked the first lady to represent the U.S. in his place. The White House said Jill Biden’s appearance marked the first time that a U.S. first lady was present for a British coronation.

She brought one of her granddaughters, Finnegan Biden, 24, on the trip.

First Ladies of US and Ukraine Jill Biden and Olena Zelenska respectively meet with Kate Middleton in London.

“It’s my honor to represent the people of the United States and I wanted to be here,” Jill Biden said. “It was so meaningful to me that I could bring Finnegan here, that we could travel together and experience this together and it’s meant a lot to both of us.”

The first lady spoke as she and Finnegan headed to afternoon tea following the coronation at Westminster Abbey. “We thought that was something that was so British,” she said of their tea time. “It was something we really wanted to do together.”

She said sitting and watching the ceremony led her to think about the importance of traditions. “I felt as I sat there, I felt this sense of decorum and civility that binds together people of all nations,” she said.

At the coronation, Jill Biden sat beside Olena Zelenska, the first lady of Ukraine. Jill Biden said they talked about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and that Zelenska thanked her again for the support from the United States.

Jill Biden said she paid close attention to Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby’s message that people everywhere seek hope and joy.

“And I thought that was such strong message because I think that is true,” she said. “And it’s true for all people everywhere, but I think it was important at this moment that the clergy brought that in to this moment in history.”

The first lady attended a Buckingham Palace reception Friday that was hosted by Charles. She said Charles recounted to her his most recent telephone conversation with President Biden and asked her to “give my best to your husband.”

She said she and Princess Kate chatted as mothers about the lengths to which they go to keep their children quiet in church, feeding them pieces of candy and such.

“She said she didn’t know if her son could sit still for two hours and we just had a good laugh over it,” Jill Biden said. “It’s just something, I think, that’s common to a lot of us.”

 UK celebrates King’s coronation

Around 2,300 people are inside the abbey for the service, with Prince Harry arriving alongside his cousins…reports Asian Lite News

The King’s Coronation, the first in the UK for 70 years, is under way at the Westminster Abbey.

A military band played the national anthem as the King and Queen Consort set off from Buckingham Palace, as crowds erupted into thunderous cheers, BBC reported.

As the couple arrived at the abbey in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, the King was seen smiling and waving.

Around 2,300 people are inside the abbey for the service, with Prince Harry arriving alongside his cousins.

Celebrity guests are also in place — including actress Emma Thompson and US singer Katy Perry.

US First Lady Jill Biden, and her granddaughter Finnegan, arrived in a three-car motorcade. US President Joe Biden is not in the UK.

French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska are also in the abbey.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, along with leaders of the Commonwealth countries, entered with their respective flag bearers. The service, which began at 11:00 BST, will last for around two hours, the BBC reported.

A key theme of the Coronation for King Charles will be service — and in his first prayer when he reaches the Abbey, he will say: “I come not to be served, but to serve.”

Following the ceremony, the King Charles III and Queen Camilla will return to the Buckingham Palace.

Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, arrived from the US on Friday on a commercial flight, and was seen entering the abbey with his cousins Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice.

It is the first time since he has been in public with his brother, Prince William, since his memoir, Spare, was released.

It is thought Prince Harry may fly back to the US just hours after the ceremony to rejoin his wife Meghan, as their son Archie is celebrating his fourth birthday.

On the procession route, umbrellas started to pop up as the rain arrives.

But despite the very English weather, there has been a celebratory atmosphere on The Mall, with periodic Mexican waves and police officers and security guards being cheered.

Among the spectators is Alexandra Hornyak, 57, from Montreal, Canada who will be watching from Green Park.

“I’ve known for years that I would want to attend this day, and the day that it was announced, I was driving to the office, and my husband just called me and said ‘May 6’,” she told the BBC.

“I knew exactly what it was. And I jumped on the phone to get a hotel reservation and we went from there.”

Karen Daly, 54, from Birmingham, said, “We could have done this at home, but the atmosphere is so good and everyone’s really happy.”

“When the Queen died, we couldn’t make it because we all couldn’t get out of work. So we booked off as soon as we knew about the coronation.”

Charles became King of the UK and 14 other realms in September, when his mother Elizabeth died after 70 years on the throne, the BBC reported.

Months of intense planning have gone into the coronation celebrations — the 40th to take place at Westminster Abbey since 1066.

Unlike the procession route, there were no crowds outside the abbey, as it was closed to the public ahead of the service.

The service will be led by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who will be assisted by the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell.

“There have been wall-to-wall rehearsals this week, and indeed last week,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

“None of us have done this for a very long time, so working out the choreography has been complex.”

The high point of the ceremony will come when the St Edward’s Crown is placed on the King’s head, a moment that will be marked by the abbey bells and a gun salute in nearby Horse Guards Parade.

Camilla will be crowned alongside Charles — and after the couple’s long and often complicated relationship, she will now be officially described as “Queen Camilla”.

The ceremony will emphasise diversity and inclusion, with more multi-faith elements than any previous coronation, with contributions from Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist and Sikh representatives.

A Bible lesson will be read by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who is a Hindu, and music will be sung in Welsh and Scottish and Irish Gaelic.

There will be women bishops taking part in the service for the first time in a coronation service that goes back almost a thousand years.

After the service, at around 13:00 BST, King Charles and Queen Camilla will travel in the Gold State Coach back to Buckingham Palace, in a spectacular mile-long (1.6km) procession, with 4,000 soldiers and 19 military bands.

When they reach the palace, it remains uncertain who will be seen with the King and Queen for the traditional balcony appearance.

There are plans for a flypast when the senior royals are on the palace balcony, but there will be concerns about the weather, with a forecast of cloud and showers.

Prince William pours a pint, meets public before coronation

Thursday’s royal visit came as London prepared for the United Kingdom’s first coronation since Elizabeth II was crowned 70 years ago…reports Asian Lite News

Prince William has poured a pint of ale and taken a ride on the subway with his wife Kate as part of a royal ramble in central London before King Charles III’s coronation.

With just two days to go until Saturday’s coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey, William and Kate took time to chat with royal fans, tourists and Londoners on Thursday in the U.K. capital’s bustling Soho entertainment district.

The pair took their first trip on the Elizabeth line, named after Queen Elizabeth II and the latest line on London’s busy train network. They then stopped at the historic Dog and Duck pub, where William went behind the bar and poured a pint of Kingmaker, a pale ale brewed to celebrate the coronation.

William joked that he would have to watch how much he drank and “get back into work mode.”

Hundreds of royal fans — some hailing from China, Canada and the United States — lined the streets of Soho, hoping for a glimpse of the couple, a handshake or a brief chat.

Kate told well-wishers that her eldest child, Prince George, was “excited” about the coronation. The 9-year-old royal, who is second in line to the throne after his father, is expected to carry Charles’ robes as one of the king’s four pages of honor on Saturday.

George and his younger siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis attended a rehearsal for the ceremony alongside other members of the royal family on Wednesday.

Thursday’s royal visit came as London prepared for the United Kingdom’s first coronation since Elizabeth II was crowned 70 years ago.

Union Jack bunting and crown decorations have appeared across the capital, while Big Ben was lit up in red as part of late-night dress rehearsals around midnight on Wednesday.

Some 100 heads of state, representatives from 200 countries and hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected to descend on London for the historic event. Many die-hard royal fans are already camped out near Buckingham Palace to secure the best viewing spot.

“We’ve always been a massive fan of the royal family. I was also over for the (queen’s) jubilee, so all the big moments that we can, we come over,” said Luisa Rawes, from Portugal. “It is a massive occasion.”

Thousands of police are being deployed across London for one of the most complex security operations in U.K. history, bracing for any disruptions and anti-monarchy protests.

On Tuesday night, officers arrested a man who threw shotgun cartridges into the grounds of Buckingham Palace, and blew up a suspicious bag belonging to the man. Police said the man was searched and a lock knife was found.

Authorities said Thursday that the 59-year-old suspect, who hasn’t been named, was detained under mental health laws and taken to a hospital. No one was injured, and Charles and Camilla, the queen consort, weren’t at the palace at the time.
