Al Tayer emphasised DEWA’s commitment to the Dubai Digital Strategy and to consolidating Dubai’s position as the top digital city in the world…reports Asian Lite News

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), said that the authority’s customers conducted over 6.7 million digital transactions in the first half of 2024, compared to approximately 6 million transactions in the first half of 2023, an increase of about 11 per cent.

In a press release on Friday, DEWA announced that customers conducted over 1.1 million digital transactions via DEWA’s website, over 2.2 million transactions via its smart app, and more than 3.3 million transactions through various digital channels provided in collaboration with partners.

Al Tayer emphasised DEWA’s commitment to the Dubai Digital Strategy and to consolidating Dubai’s position as the top digital city in the world.

He stated that DEWA benefits from the significant opportunities presented by the disruptive technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to accelerate digital transformation, enhance transaction efficiency, and improve stakeholder happiness.

DEWA’s advanced digital infrastructure has contributed to increasing the smart adoption of DEWA’s services to 99.2 per cent, alongside the digital integration of more than 90 projects with 65 government and private organisations by the end of 2023.

“We are guided by the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to establish Dubai as a leading power in the global digital ecosystem. DEWA attracts Dh43.6b projects via IPWP model

The Independent Producer projects encourage partnership between the government and private sectors. …reports Asian Lite News

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has emphasised that DEWA works in line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai a global hub for the green economy.

Al Tayer highlighted that DEWA developed the Independent Power and Water Producer (IPWP) model by utilising the best international experiences and practices. This model has been designed to align with the requirements of Dubai and its legislative and technical environment. DEWA’s adoption of the Independent Producer model has contributed to attracting investments worth AED 43.6 billion over 10 years.

The Independent Producer projects encourage partnership between the government and private sectors. Through this model, DEWA has achieved the lowest Levelised Cost Of Energy (LCOE) in the world in solar energy projects, making Dubai a global benchmark for solar energy prices.

“The regulatory and legislative frameworks in Dubai, which allow the private sector to participate in energy generation projects, encourage international investors and developers to participate in the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park’s projects, which DEWA is implementing using the IPP model. Our IPWP projects support the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to double the size of Dubai’s economy over 10 years and consolidate its position among the top three global cities. They also align with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of the energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050,” Al Tayer said.

Dubai provides an ideal business environment for investors. According to the Financial Times Ltd’s “fDi Markets” data, Dubai has maintained its position as the world’s leading hub for foreign direct investment (FDI) for the third consecutive year. Dubai attracted over AED39.2 billion in total FDI capital during 2023, creating around 45,000 job opportunities.

DEWA contributes to attracting foreign investments through its pioneering energy and water projects based on the Independent Power and Water Producer (IPWP) model. DEWA has adopted this model since 2014, replacing the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model.
Among DEWA’s key IPP projects is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world, with a planned production capacity of over 5,000MW by 2030 and a total investment of AED 50 billion.

DEWA has inaugurated 5 phases of the solar park and is currently implementing the 1,800MW 6th phase, costing around AED 5.5 billion. Several global consortiums took part in implementing these phases, led by major companies such as Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), among others.

DEWA’s other energy projects based on the IPP model include the Hassyan Power Complex, which runs on natural gas. The 2,400MW power complex is one of the largest power stations in the region, using the latest international technologies in energy production.

DEWA is also implementing a 180 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) seawater reverse osmosis (RO) desalination project in Hassyan using the Independent Water Producer model. It is the world’s largest project of its kind using RO technology based on the Independent Water Producer (IWP) model, with an investment of AED 3.4 billion.

DEWA to increase green fast and ultra-fast charging stations

The Green Charger initiative was announced back in 2014, with the completion of its first phase in 2015, installing 100 stations. …reports Asian Lite News

Majid Hilal Al Hazami, Director of Smart Grid Projects Management at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), said that the authority plans to increase the number of green fast and ultra-fast charging stations for Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Dubai this year, noting that the total number of stations deployed in Dubai is approximately 390 charging stations of different types.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) during their participation in the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi, Al Hazami said that work is underway to increase the number of charging stations for Electric Vehicles to reach 1,000 stations by the end of 2025, with an increase in the proportion of ultra-fast chargers in the emirate.

He explained that the differences between green chargers are related to their charging speed and deployment locations, noting that fast and ultra-fast chargers are available at petrol stations and at entrances and exits of the emirate.

He said that the time to charge about 80 percent of a vehicle’s battery using ultra-fast chargers ranges from 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the battery capacity and vehicle type, noting that medium-speed chargers are usually deployed in shopping malls, parks and office areas, and the process of charging 80 percent of a vehicle’s battery takes from 2 to 4 hours, depending on the battery capacity and vehicle type.

The Green Charger initiative was announced back in 2014, with the completion of its first phase in 2015, installing 100 stations. The expansion of adopting and deploying green chargers has been continuous over the past years.

Al Hazami spoke about the effectiveness of smart grid management in achieving sustainability goals and serving customers optimally. Regarding participation in the Global Future Energy Summit, Al Hazami emphasised its significant role in supporting clean energy trends locally, regionally, and globally. He pointed out that the importance of the authority’s participation lies in two directions: firstly, by reviewing the authority’s projects in the field of clean energy, such as the Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Energy Project, which is the largest of its kind in one location worldwide for solar energy production.

He explained that various technologies used in the complex contribute to generating energy with the highest efficiency and effectiveness, highlighting the use of the tallest solar power tower in the complex, reaching a height of over 263 meters.

Al Hazami praised the efforts of the Innovation Center, which significantly contributes to supporting clean energy projects and future projects, noting the achievements of the Innovation Center in assisting various entities, especially universities, in understanding various future technologies in the field of clean energy.
