Blasters FC Clinch Top ISL Spot with 1-0 Victory Over Hyderabad

The resounding support that Kerala Blasters receive in Kochi was visible and how, when Drinčić tapped in an assist by Adrian Luna four minutes before the halftime break…reports Asian Lite News

Kerala Blasters FC progressed to the top of the points table with a narrow 1-0 victory against Hyderabad FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here to round off the Saturday double header of Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24.

Kerala Blasters FC head coach Ivan Vukomanovic recently stated that the Tuskers have an obligation towards their home fans to give their hundred per cent and more every time they step onto the field in Kochi. It’s safe to say that the players lived up to those expectations in this faceoff against Hyderabad FC, with a goal in the 41st minute by Milos Drincic helping them bag all points possible from their first fixture after the international break.

The resounding support that Kerala Blasters receive in Kochi was visible and how, when Drinčić tapped in an assist by Adrian Luna four minutes before the halftime break. The home side had won a corner, and they overloaded players upfront to find a breakthrough past the Hyderabad FC backline. Luna received a through ball inside the 18-yard box and he was quick to spot an onrushing Drincic. The 24-year-old Montenegrin defender put the ball into the back of the net and helped Kerala Blasters head into the halftime high on confidence.

Hyderabad FC are dealing with challenges in their frontline this season, having scored only four times in seven matches this season now. Their major concerns come across in finishing off moves, as they went toe to toe in giving Kerala Blasters a run for their money even after trailing in the proceedings.

Jonathan Moya had a fantastic opportunity to get them ahead in the game even before Drincic’s strike. At the tip of the attacking unit, Moya was responsible for efficiently optimising the opportunities that Hyderabad created. However, his headed effort failed to even test Sachin Suresh.

Unfortunately for them, no concrete chances came their way afterwards, with Kerala Blasters nearing doubling the lead. Drincic had an opening to bag a brace after his strike, but that effort did not materialise. However, Vukomanovic will be pleased with the effort that Luna put in as well. Arguably the most impactful individual in the league thus far, the Uruguayan again notched a decisive assist as his team continues to rally behind the relentless efforts he keeps putting in one game after another.

Kerala Blasters will next host Chennaiyin FC on November 29 whereas Hyderabad FC will be squaring off against the Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar for their upcoming match on December 2.

Adrian Luna Clinches ISL Player of the Month for October

Kerala Blasters FC captain Adrian Luna has won the Indian Super League (ISL) Player of the Month award for October 2023, a prize which is given to the best player in the ISL every month.

The voting criteria involve fans’ votes, which contribute to 50 per cent of the total vote share, while the remaining 50 per cent comes from expert votes. Luna secured the award based on fans’ votes cast between 3 PM IST on November 22 and 3 PM IST on November 24. He secured all 10 votes from the experts while acquiring 80 per cent fan votes, taking his total percentage to 90 per dent, reports ISL.

The 31-year-old midfielder triumphed over stiff competition from teammate Sachin Suresh, Jay Gupta of FC Goa, and Rehenesh TP of Jamshedpur FC.

Kerala Blasters FC engaged in four matches in October, securing victories in two, drawing one, and experiencing a loss in the other. Luna’s exceptional performance throughout the month, which encompassed two goals and one assist, earned him well-deserved recognition.

The Uruguayan has been a key figure for the Blasters so far this season, playing a crucial role in orchestrating attacks. His versatility is evident as he created 12 chances and demonstrated physical prowess, winning 32 possessions and 23 duels.

Hyderabad’s 17th Century stepwell wins global award

Minister for municipal administration and urban development K.T. Rama Rao inaugurated the restored stepwell…reports Asian Lite News

It was a proud moment for India and Telangana as one the historic monuments in Hyderabad received international recognition. The 17th Century Bansilalpet stepwell and precinct restoration project in Secunderabad was bestowed with the prestigious Big 5 Construction Impact Award in Dubai this week.

The six-layer stepwell of the Nizam era had turned into a dump yard in the last four decades and more than 2,000 tonnes of debris was removed from there. Families which had settled on the site were relocated to another place.

The restored monument which was opened by K.T. Rama Rao on Monday now has several new additions. It has an amphitheatre, the surroundings are paved with cobblestone, a viewing gallery overlooking the stepwell and a multi-storeyed tourist plaza.

Besides this for the comfort of the people visiting the monument, a history interpretation centre, a cafeteria and toilets have been opened. In the adjoining open ground, fencing has been done and it now has a garden, jogging track and stone benches.

The international award at Dubai is given by the Government of United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure in recognition of sustainable development and technological and digital achievements in the construction industry. The winners were announced at a ceremony at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The stepwell had once served drinking water needs of the locality, but later was neglected to turn into a garbage dump. The revived stepwell will prevent inundation and improve the groundwater levels.

The urban development authorities plan to turn it into a tourist attraction and a cultural centre.

Minister for municipal administration and urban development K.T. Rama Rao inaugurated the restored stepwell.

He expressed happiness over the completion of the project with the participation of various non-governmental organisations.

He said after hard work of more than a one year, the stepwell was restored by various departments in partnership with organisations like Rainwater Project, Gandipet Welfare Society and the local community.

“The city is not about a few concrete structures, a few steel bridges and a few buildings or flyovers or underpasses. The city’s soul is all about its culture, heritage and beautiful monuments. Unfortunately, we have not able to protect this for last few centuries,” he said

He pointed out that the restoration work involved clearing 3,900 metric tonnes of garbage and debris from the stepwell. The same was cleared with 863 truck trips.

Various departments and NGOs spent Rs 10 crore on the restoration project.

As part of the project, a museum, a cafeteria and amphitheatre have come up at the site.

KTR, as the minister is popularly known, said all 43 stepwells in different parts of the city will be restored.

He noted that Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) has restored six historic stepwells at Qutb Shahi Tombs and UNESCO recently the conservation effort with the 2022 award of distinction.

Hyderabad’s 17th century stepwell restored to its pristine glory

He reiterated that the ultimate goal of the government is to achieve UNESCO world heritage status for Hyderabad and as part of this several historic monuments in the city were being conserved and restored.

Stepwells are considered to be of utmost importance environmentally, architecturally and historically.

According to the Rainwater Project, the Bansilalpet stepwell has an annual rainwater harvesting potential of 35 lakh litres.

Under the restoration initiative, the organization took up cleaning, dewatering and desilting of the well and also structural strengthening of retaining walls.

In March, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had mentioned the restoration of the stepwell during his monthly radio programme ‘Mann ki Baat’.

Hyderabad beat Rajasthan United to qualify for semifinal

It was Hyderabad who then piled the pressure on for most of the game but against the run of play, Rajasthan were offered a way back when Akash Mishra handed an awkward high ball and the referee pointed to the spot…reports Asian Lite News

Indian Super League (ISL) winner Hyderabad FC put in a strong performance against I-League side Rajasthan United to claim a 3-1 win in the Durand Cup 2022 quarterfinals here at the Kishore Bharati Stadium in Kolkata on Monday.

Bartholomew Ogbeche (6′), Akash Mishra (45′) and Javi Siverio (68′) found the back of the net for Manolo Marquez’s team while Martin Chaves (29′ pen) scored at the other end from a spot-kick in an entertaining 3-1 win for HFC.

This win knocks Rajasthan United out of the competition while Hyderabad are set to face Bengaluru FC in the second Semifinal in a few days.

Under the lights, even as it was pouring down, Bart Ogbeche took just six minutes to get himself on the scoresheet as he thumped in a header from the edge of the box to convert a Borja Herrera cross and take Hyderabad into an early lead.

It was Hyderabad who then piled the pressure on for most of the game but against the run of play, Rajasthan were offered a way back when Akash Mishra handed an awkward high ball and the referee pointed to the spot.

Laxmikant Kattimani was beaten but HFC did not take long to restore their lead. Akash Mishra popped up with a stunning goal, as he drove a long-range effort from the left into the far corner to bring it back to 2-1 before the break.

Javi Siverio effectively decided the tie after he converted from a Halicharan Narzary cross just after the hour mark. It was Narzary’s first touch after coming on as a sub while Siverio bagged what was his first goal of the current Durand Cup campaign.

The likes of Joel Chianese, Joao Victor, Sweden Fernandes, Nikhil Poojary and Lalchungnunga Chhangte all came close on a few occasions while Martin Chaves also hit the bar at the other end in an eventful second half.

But it was the determination of Odei Onaindia and Nim Dorjee Tamang, that rarely allowed the I-League side a clear shot at Kattimani’s goal for most of the game.

This win takes Hyderabad FC to their first ever Semifinal in the Durand Cup as they take on fellow ISL side Bengaluru FC at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on September 15.

Hyderabad to become city with 100% sewage treatment facility

Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, is heading towards achieving the singular distinction of becoming India’s first city to have 100 per cent sewage treatment facility. This is expected to happen by next year.

In order to achieve this, work is going on continuously in construction on 31 Sewage Treatment Plants in Greater Hyderabad and its outskirts. These new STPs will not only treat the generated sewage but also go a long way in protecting water bodies including rivers, water bodies, ponds and tanks in the city.

The State Government with the aim to improve the sewage treatment infrastructure in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits had sanctioned Rs.3,866.21 crore in 2021 to establish 31 STPs. These will have the capacity to treat 1,260 million litres per day of sewage.

The first phase of the project envisages construction of eight STPs in the north of Musi river, including the Uppal, Kapra, Makajgiri, Alwal circles, while the second phase will see construction of six STPs in the south of Musi river including Rajendranagar and LB Nagar circles, while 17 STPs will be made in the third phase to include Hussainsagar catchment areas of Kukatpally, Quthbullapur, Serilingampally circles.

The scaling up of sewage treatment facilities has been done with a view to tackle the increase in the sewage water in the next 10 years.

At present the existing 25 STPs have the capacity to treat 772 MLD of the 1650 MLD generated every day while the remaining is allowed to flow in Musi river and other water bodies.

Muslim sisters run women taxi service in Hyderabad

The idea only came into existence following an unpleasant auto rickshaw experience, aimed at ensuring women feel safe and secure during their journey…writes Mohammad Modassir Ashrafi (The Author is Research Scholar at Jamia Millia Islamia)

Hyderabad is a modern but conservative city, like most Indian cities. However, youths in the city are breaking social barriers to set new standards. One of such youths is Nikhat Zareen, the young boxer, who has beaten poverty and patriarchy to emerge as a gold medallist in the coveted Commonwealth Games. Taking this courage to a step ahead are siblings Uzma Khatoon and Zainab Khatoon who have introduced bike taxis, pleasingly named Dovely run by women riders to carry women from corner to another in the city.

Sisters due has also launched the Dovely app to professionally run their taxi service. The Dovely app provides a bike taxi service exclusively run by and for women. According to the Khatoon sisters, the purpose of their entrepreneurship is to address the safety of women while travelling, especially the women patients. Plus, they want to make women independent while deciding their professions.

Khatoon sisters have roped in two other youths to their team. The four-person run application comprises founder Zainab who is a final year B. Pharmacy student, Uzma, a final year B.com Computers student, and Masarrath Fatima and Obaidulla Khan who are final year B. Tech students.

Speaking to a Hyderabad-based portal, the founder and CEO of Dovely, Zainab Khatoon said, “The idea to create Dovely first struck me and originated from a conversation between me and my mom, who wanted to visit my granny and was looking for cost-effective and safe rides.”

The idea only came into existence following an unpleasant auto rickshaw experience, aimed at ensuring women feel safe and secure during their journey.

“The idea struck me once again while I was travelling with my friend in an autorickshaw when the driver looked at us from the rear view mirror making me feel uncomfortable,” Zainab added.

“We sat down with our parents to discuss the name of the company. After going through about 400 names, our father came up with the name Dovely,” said Chief Operating Officer and co-founder Uzma.

“Apart from providing rides for women, the app also allows women to connect with us as Dovely partners. To access information regarding the platform one may visit the Dovely website,” Zainab said.

Till now, the Dovely has completed more than 100 rides to various locations in Hyderabad. More than 20 riders have registered themselves and provided their services through Dovely.

She added that since the service is in its initial stages, all the earnings from the rides are being kept by the riders themselves. “We are not getting any commission,” she said.

With regards to the credibility of the riders, Zainab said, “I personally handle the onboarding process for Dovely. As part of the hiring process we ourselves take long distance rides with the candidates to test their driving skills.”

Shedding light on the steps taken to ensure the safety of the riders and passengers, Uzma said, “One of us is constantly checking on the live location from the beginning to the end of the ride, and the riders are only supposed to switch off the live location after completing the ride.”

Nahera Lohreen, one of the bike riders who worked with Dovely, told a local daily, “The first ride was a bit challenging since I was hesitant as to how it would go, but after a while, I felt comfortable and it has been a great experience.”

Nahera is the first bike rider to be roped in by Dovely.

Zareena Begum, another bike rider with the firm, said, “It is a great opportunity since it gives us financial independence and I was looking forward to such an opportunity. It’s been thrilling to ride my bike as a professional rider and take somebody to a destination safely and earn money for it.”

Speaking of future plans, Zainab said, “As of now we are focusing on a minimum of 10 rides per day, we will gradually expand into three and four-wheeler markets.”

She added that her sister and other team members have been able to make girls ride their scooties and bikes as professional taxi drivers in conservative Hyderabad and it’s been more satisfying than earning money.
