One dead as Sukhoi, Mirage fighter jets crash in Madhya Pradesh

The aircraft- a Sukhoi-30 was carrying two pilots and the Mirage 2000 was carrying one pilot during the time of the crash, reports Asian Lite News

Sukhoi and Mirage fighter jets of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed on Saturday in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district after reportedly colliding during a routine bombing exercise, resulting in the death of one pilot.

According to the sources, the Sukhoi-30 MKI had two pilots, while the Mirage had one during the crash that occurred in the bordering area of Morena and Bharatpur (Rajasthan).

One fighter jet fell in Bharatpur and the other one in Morena.

The sources said that the two pilots were safe and taken to a hospital in Gwalior, while an IAF chopper has been dispatched to the location of the third pilot.

The jets took off from the the Gwalior Air Force Station for the routine bombing exercise.

The sources also said that Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was briefed by the Chief of Air Staff on the incident.

The Defence Minister enquired about the well-being of the pilots and is monitoring the developments closely, they added.

In a statement, the IAF said that it has established a “Court of Inquiry which will establish whether there was a mid-air collision or not” between the two fighter jets.

Locals who witnessed the crash informed the local police after which the Gwalior Air Force Station was notified about the incident.

Videos from the scene shot by residents of the area showed aircraft debris on the ground.

Bengaluru FC defeat Indian Air Force 4-0

Bengaluru FC (BFC) became the third team of the Durand Cup to pick up a second consecutive win in as many games in this season, after they beat the Indian Air Force 4-0 in a Group B encounter at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan (KBK) here on Tuesday.

Roy Krishan opened the scoring in the ninth minute of the match while Sunil Chhetri got the second in the 23rd. The third was scored by Faisal Ali in the 71st minute, while young striker Siva Sakthi got the fourth in the third minute of stoppage time.

As a result, BFC now join Mohammedan on six points in the group and both also have the same goal difference.

The Blues gaffer Simon Grayson made as many as six changes in his starting eleven with defender Hira Mondal being the only forced change due to a red-card picked up in their first game. Priya Darshan the Air Force coach made two, rewarding Prabhjot Singh for his spirited play in the last game when he came on as substitute and dropped Guizam in defence in place of Amal Das. Both surprisingly began with five defenders in the starting line-up.

The goal came early for BFC as Roy Krishna received a cross from the left and drove in to finish with his right, for his second of the tournament. Soon after captain Sunil Chhetri got at the end of a cross from Prabir Das, who was tireless with his runs from the right on the day, to sneak one past Shibinraj in the Air Force goal. It was his second of the tournament as well in as many games.

There was no further damage done for the Airmen in the first half.

BFC got their third goal in the 71st through their new recruit from Kolkata itself, Faisal Ali. Two substitutes, Udanta and Faisal combined for it but credit should go to Suresh Wangjam who chased a ball inside the box with Air Force defender Arashpreet on his shoulder trying to see it to touch.

Suresh persisted and kept the ball in play with a lunge and Udanta was at hand. The speedy Manipuri winger delivered a cross across the face of goal with pin-point accuracy and Faisal coming in following the game, had an easy tap in.

The Airmen had their best chance in the 81st minute when off a Prabhjot corner, Arashpreet jumped the highest to deflect a powerful header towards goal but it grazed the top of the net and went out.

Rapid infusion of niche technology and combat power in every facet of our operations has never been as intense as it is now, IAF Chief R.K.S. Bhadauria said, reports Asian Lite News

The Indian Air Force has gone through monumental transformation with unprecedented and rapidly evolving security scenario in the neighbourhood, said Air Chief Marshal R.K.S. Bhadauria, on Saturday, pointing out that this has led to intense combat power in operations.

Speaking at the combined graduation parade at the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Hyderabad, Air Chief Marshal Bhadauria said: “Rapid infusion of niche technology and combat power in every facet of our operations has never been as intense as it is now.”

He added that it is primarily because of the unprecedented and rapidly evolving security challenges that “we face, coupled with arising geo-political uncertainty in our neighbourhood and beyond”.

Indian military has for long flagged the threat of two front war. With the disputed border with China and Pakistan active at the same point of time, the armed forces are stretched to the maximum.

He said the last few decades have clearly established the critical role of Air Power in achieving victory in any conflict. “It is in this backdrop that IAF’s on-going capability enhancement assumes tremendous significance.”

Bhadauria also referred to how the Air Force maintained operational readiness, proactively assisting in the national fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Proactive vaccination and strict Covid discipline within IAF enabled us to undertake all Covid tasks on a war-footing, he said.

“IAF’s heavy lift capability was put into action for airlift of crucial Covid related equipment; wherein our transport fleet flew more than 3,800 hours within two months in a huge effort across the globe and domestically to transport critical oxygen Tankers, and all related medical equipment and supplies. You all are joining the field that operates at this level, across the spectrum,” he said to those passing out of the academy.

“It is also essential for all of you to bear in mind that as future leaders, you will stand shoulder to shoulder with your comrades in Olive Greens and Whites and prosecute integrated operations,” Indian Air Force Chief said.

He also said, “You will be an integral part of this important transition in the years ahead,” was the chief’s concluding message to the future leaders.
