Indian Embassy Celebrates Sanskritotsava in Riyadh

The Embassy of India in Riyadh hosted a unique and culturally significant event titled “Samskritotsava” on November 5 as part of “Pravasi Parichay,” celebrating the timeless elegance of the Sanskrit language and acknowledging the efforts of the Indian community in preserving this linguistic treasure in Saudi Arabia.

The event was a one-of-a-kind occasion, conducted entirely in Sanskrit, paying homage to the language that embodies India’s ancient wisdom, civilization, history, and traditions. The Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia proudly announced this distinctive celebration, a collaboration with Samskrita Bharati, to promote and honor the rich heritage of Sanskrit.

Ambassador Suhel Ajaz Khan, in his opening address, underscored the profound cultural significance of Sanskrit. He emphasized its revered status worldwide as a sacred and spiritual language and highlighted the event’s potential to inspire others to learn and practice Sanskrit.

The “Samskritotsava” featured a variety of performances by the Indian community in Saudi Arabia, all eloquently presented in Sanskrit. The program included Abhinaya Gheetam, Gana Geetam, Subhashita Natakam, Prachanna Vesham, and more, offering a captivating glimpse into the versatility and cultural richness of the language.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a fervent supporter of ancient Indian languages, including Sanskrit, recently emphasized the importance of this language. He described Sanskrit as not only a repository of traditions but also as a language that defines India’s progress and identity. During his address at Tulsi Peeth in Madhya Pradesh’s Chitrakoot on October 27, PM Modi stressed that Sanskrit has been the mother of several languages and has stood the test of time, remaining untainted by the passage of centuries.

EAM Jaishankar inaugurates Indian Embassy in Dominican Republic

The Indian External Affairs Minster said that relations with the Dominican Republic are exceptionally cordial and reiterated close coordination with the Latin American country in the multilateral arena, reports Asian Lite News

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday (local time) inaugurated the Embassy of India in the Dominican Republic in the presence of Vice President of the Dominican Republic, Raquel Pena.

“Privileged to join Vice President of Dominican Republic @RaquelPenaVice in inaugurating the Embassy of India in the Dominican Republic,” tweeted Jaishankar. Speaking at the event, he said, “Today is a very proud day for India and for the relationship between India and the Dominican Republic. I have the privilege to formally inaugurate the embassy that we have established here. Your presence (Vice President of the Dominican Republic) exemplifies the importance that the Government of the Dominican Republic attaches to this. The establishment of this embassy will mark a new phase of our cooperation. We will take this relationship to still greater levels. We certainly look forward to continuing high-level exchanges between our two countries.”

He further said that relations with the Dominican Republic are exceptionally cordial and reiterated that India will closely coordinate with the Latin American country in the multilateral arena.

“I would also like to stress that at a time when India is increasing its presence in the Latin American region, we certainly see the Dominican Republic as one of our key partners and our relationship will not only have bilateral significance but would have a larger regional contribution as well,” said Jaishankar.

The two countries established diplomatic relations in 1999 and will be marking the quarter century next year.

The EAM further reposed his confidence that the presence of the Resident Embassy will mark a new phase of cooperation and help strengthen ties in bilateral, regional and global domains.

“In the two decades that have passed we can already see that difference, diplomatic relations and having Resident Embassy have made to a billion dollars today. Our political relations are very warm, and cordial and we cooperate very closely in multilateral organisations, especially in the United Nations. We would like to see this relationship grow in its dimensions, facets, and intensity — whether it is more trade, greater investment, more exchanges, or businesses here or in India. These are all objectives we have set for ourselves,” he said.

Jaishankar also thanked Dominican Republic leaders for joining the inauguration of the Indian Embassy.

“Also thank President of Senate @EduardoEstrella, FM @RobalsdqAlvarez, Defense Minister Carlos Luciano, Education Minister @Fgarciafermin & for joining the inauguration of @IndiainDR. Their presence today underlines the trust of our bilateral relations & the promise of its potential,” he tweeted. (ANI)

India issues another advisory

In light of the increasing tensions in Ukraine, the Indian embassy in Kyiv issued another advisory on Wednesday urging all Indian citizens to “immediately leave Ukraine by available means”.

The fresh advisory was released less than a week after a comparable warning in response to the deteriorating security situation in Ukraine.

The embassy’s official statement said, “In continuation of the advisory issued by the embassy on October 19, all Indian citizens in Ukraine are advised to immediately leave Ukraine by available means.”

The embassy has also requested that Indian nationals get in touch with them if they need any advice or help to leave the country by heading to the Ukrainian border.

“They may contact the embassy at the following numbers for any guidance/assistance, if required, to travel to the border: +380933559958, +380635917881, +380678745945,” the latest advisory said.

The embassy added that stranded citizens may also seek assistance from the embassy’s official website. It also stated that they may seek assistance from Indian embassies in Romania, Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia.

Due to the recent escalation of the hostilities, the embassy issued an advisory on October 19 advising Indian nationals against travelling Ukraine. It also advised Indian nationals, including students, in Ukraine to leave at the earliest by available means.

On October 10, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv had advised Indian nationals to avoid non-essential travel to and within Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the latest Russian bombardment of the eastern Donetsk area resulted in at least seven civilian deaths and three further injuries, according to Tuesday’s statement from Ukraine’s Presidential Office.

In addition to shelling other regions in the Donetsk region, which is a part of the Donbas industrial heartland of Ukraine, the strikes took place as the Russians intensified their advance towards the strategically important towns of Bakhmut and Avdiivka.

Op Ganga enters last leg, Indians asked to reach Hungary

The Indian Embassy in Hungary on Sunday asked the stranded nationals to reach Hungaria City Centre as they have begun the last leg of Operation Ganga flights.

“Important Announcement: Embassy of India begins its last leg of Operation Ganga flights today. All those students staying in their OWN accommodation (other than arranged by Embassy) are requested to reach @Hungariacitycentre, Rakoczi Ut 90, Budapest between 10 am-12 pm,” the Embassy tweeted.

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine intensified in the early hours of February 24 after Russian forces launched a major assault on Ukraine, firing missiles on cities and military installations and posing a serious threat to the Indian citizens residing there. Since then, India has been rigorously evacuating its citizens from the war-torn region.

The Indian government launched a multi-pronged evacuation plan named ‘Operation Ganga’ to bring home its citizens. Accordingly, Indian missions in several neighbouring countries of Ukraine made arrangements to receive the Indian nationals who are fleeing from the crisis-hit country.

Till now, approximately 13,300 people have returned to India by 63 flights.

On Sunday, 11 more special flights are expected to operate from Budapest, Kosice, Rzeszow and Bucharest, bringing in more than 2,200 Indians back home.

TRIFED to set up AtmaNirbhar Bharat corner in all Indian embassies

Under one such collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, the TRIFED has been setting up an Atmanirbhar Bharat corner in 75 Indian missions and embassies across the world in the next 90 days…reports Asian Lite News.

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs on Tuesday said that its unit Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) will set up AtmaNirbhar Bharat corner in all Indian embassies and missions.

The Ministry also said that the first AtmaNirbhar Bharat corner was inaugurated at Indian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand on August 15 on the occasion of the Independence Day.

With the focus on “Vocal for Local” and building an “Atmanirbhar Bharat, TRIFED has been actively collaborating with several ministries take up the cause of promotion of GI Tag products along with tribal products and transform them into a brand, symbolising empowerment of tribal artisans.

Under one such collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, the TRIFED has been setting up an Atmanirbhar Bharat corner in 75 Indian missions and embassies across the world in the next 90 days.

These corners will be an exclusive space to promote GI tagged tribal art and craft products besides natural and organic products wherein catalogues and brochures will showcase the richness and variety of tribal products have also been shared with the Missions and embassies.

These 75 countries include Jamaica, Ireland, Turkey, Kenya, Mongolia, Israel, Finland, France, and Canada, Singapore, Russia, US, Indonesia, Greece and Cyprus and the TRIFED has been in the process of dispatching tribal products for the corner in each of these missions.

Additionally, TRIFED also has plan to set up an Atmanirbhar corners in 75 embassies of foreign countries in India.

Earlier, in February 2021, a ‘Tribes India Conclave’ was organised in association with the Ministry of External Affairs at the Tribes India Aadi Mahotsav. The event, which was well-received, was attended by over 120 diplomats from more than 30 foreign missions in India.
