From paychecks to prosperity, a millennial guide

Millennials love experimenting with their investing habits without taking advice from others, they rather depend on the internet for it. This has resulted in huge losses for many people….writes Arun Singh Tanwar

Millennials have been living on a fault line. They have learned how to earn but lack how to retain their hard-earned money. In today’s era, we can see millennials doing great in their careers, but internally they struggle to pay their bills. Even after earning a decent amount to lead a good life, their happiness lasts for a week after getting a paycheck. The reason behind this is no knowledge of money management. Millennials are still in the process of learning how to save money and make money from the saved money.

Job security is necessary for millennials, but in the process of getting a job, they often forget to save money while paying off their debts. In the current era, there is no life without debt. People are bound to take a loan, may it be a housing loan, educational loan, or corporate loan. Managing money between paying debts and handling responsibilities is turning out to be difficult for millennials. But, the catch here is, saving money and having smart earning habits is not difficult, it’s just a bit tricky. Here are some smart earning habits that might help millennials:

Mindset on saving: Unlike the old generation, who prioritized long-term savings, millennials do not aim for long-term savings. It can be seen that as much as millennials earn, they tend to spend more than required. According to various surveys, it can be said that:

Millennials tend to spend almost 10% of their earnings on eating out.

Millennials love experimenting with their investing habits without taking advice from others, they rather depend on the internet for it. This has resulted in huge losses for many people.

The more they earn, the more they want to spend, this results in zero growth overall.

To overcome this situation, millennials need to take advice from experts and start believing the facts and theories of financial freedom. A shift in mindset is needed, they need to start thinking about making more money from saved money and additional income rather than spending on lifestyle or other things that currently should not be the priority.

Avoiding debts and fulfilling the current one as soon as possible: As mentioned earlier, debt is unavoidable in the current situation, especially when you are doing the job and feeding a household. But, if we look closely, many things are encouraging the current generation to take on debt for the sake of lifestyle. For example, mobile phones, millennials are enchanted by buying expensive phones. Companies now are offering to buy mobile phones on EMI, these EMI last around 6-18 months. This can be counted as an unnecessary debt.

Millennials should know what debt is necessary for them, and try avoiding the debts aforementioned. Also, after getting their paychecks, millennials should aim to clear off debts as soon as possible by holding all unnecessary spending like too many clothes, eating outside in fancy restaurants, and spending on items that they do not need but just want. This can help them in clearing off debts at a faster pace.

Having a skillset: An expert once said, one source of income is never enough to gain financial freedom. Millennials need to learn this, having job security is necessary as it gives them a fixed income. Whereas one can also try to learn unique skills that they can sell for additional income. In the current era of digitalization, one can work for foreign organizations by sitting at any place. Various platforms offer gigs at competitive prices for budding writers, graphics designers, animators, web developers, and various professionals. Having a side income can help millennials to clear their debts fasters and increase their disposable income. Further, to take advantage of increased disposable income, they can start investing it in good stocks or mutual funds to get good returns.

Learn the art of investing from experts: As we can see inflation is rising day by day, and keeping the money spare in our bank accounts or our lockers won’t increase its value. The only way to increase the value of our saved money is by investing it in the right place. Several experts out there can teach and guide people on how to invest their money. May it be through trading, buying stocks, or simply investing in mutual funds. Investing the money at the right palace can give a good amount of returns, this adds as another source of income.

From the above analysis it can be said that having a secure job is not enough, one needs to learn the art of investing, saving, and spending to prosper in life. The path for Paychecks to Prosperity via Smart Earning Habits for Millennials requires a disciplined lifestyle in terms of budgeting. The first goal to gain financial freedom should be to get rid of debts, followed by saving and investing a bit and fulfilling needs, and then spending on wants. The smart earning habits followed by smart investing habits can streamline the process of financial freedom of millennials in a quick way.

‘Open communication is key in every relationship’

The film leverages a playful, humourous twist in the end which ultimately shows how kindness is sexy and goes a long way in making meaningful connections…reports Asian Lite News

Kindness is one of the most attractive qualities in a person and 41 percent of Indian Gen Z respondents on the social networking app, Bumble, consider being unkind to strangers as a deal breaker in a relationship. Bumble also found that an overwhelming majority (76 percent) of those surveyed stated that how they define what makes a great partner has changed dramatically over the past five years. 46 percent of Indian respondents say that they are no longer willing to date someone who doesn’t make time for them and 44 percent of respondents say they are no longer willing to put up with toxic behaviours.

The women-first dating app launched a global integrated campaign titled Kindness is Sexy featuring new content with actor Aditya Roy Kapoor. This partnership comes at a time when singles in India are more focused on kindness as a key element of their dating decisions. According to its latest survey, an overwhelming majority (81percent) of respondents in India agree that kindness is sexy now more than ever before and 56 percent of respondents value kindness over physical attributes in a potential partner.

“When we approach dating with kindness, we help create an environment of respect and compassion, and for connections to grow,” said Whitney Wolfe Herd, founder and CEO of Bumble. “Kindness is a core value here at Bumble, and we know it is the driving force behind our mission of creating healthy and equitable relationships. This new content helps redefine the idea of attraction and encourages us to never lose sight of the most valuable traits in a relationship.”

The campaign’s new film embodies this sentiment as it features popular actor, Aditya Roy Kapoor exploring modern online dating as he redefines stereotypical tropes of sexy through the lens of different facets of ‘kindness’ in a relationship—respect, vulnerability to empathy. The film leverages a playful, humourous twist in the end which ultimately shows how kindness is sexy and goes a long way in making meaningful connections.

Speaking on this partnership, actor Aditya Roy Kapoor shares, “At the end of the day, the heart of everything lies at being good to people around you, including your romantic relationships. I think it’s great what Bumble is doing by telling everyone, who is on their platform and whoever wants to join, that what matters is being good to each other, being accountable and responsible on the platform. By showing kindness is sexy, I think they have set the tone very clearly about the kind of interactions and the kind of people they want on the platform – I think more power to Bumble for doing that!”

We caught up with Aditya Roy Kapur to get his opinion and thoughts regarding the campaign and dating:

According to you, what are the simple acts of kindness that can make a positive impact in the dating culture these days?

Aditya: I think open communication is key in every relationship, being open to listening and understanding each other is an act of kindness. So I would say being comfortable with each other is important and expressing gratitude in any kind of relationship goes a long way too!

Any tips for your fans to make kindness a habit?

Aditya: I think whenever you think someone is doing something nice, make them know that you notice and appreciate it.  It feels nice to know that someone has noticed good things that you do and good qualities, if they have been nice to you or checked in with you – let them know that you notice because it matters to them that you see them for the good.

How does it feel to associate with Bumble for Kindness is Sexy Campaign? What message do you hope to communicate through this collaboration?

Aditya: What Bumble is trying to put across is something that resonated with me. I think being kind, asking people how you like to be treated with empathy should be at the core of any healthy relationship, whichever form it may take. So, when I heard of the campaign and what its message was, I looked at it only as something that can be positive, and I felt that Bumble always goes about putting their ideas across in a fun way. I really liked the stuff that they have done for their other campaigns as well. So, it was a really exciting prospect to collaborate with them on something that I felt would be fun, interesting and also a positive message.

Study: Indians on ‘high risk’ life style

Reduction in commute time and lockdown probably allowed Indians to focus more on their health and making their immune system stronger…writes Siddhi Jain.

Many studies have come out about the issues related to the unhealthy life style of Indians. While alcohol intake and thyroid issues among Indians seem to have reduced over the past year, a new health report has detailed a concerning increase in levels of blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes, despite fitness and health becoming a nationwide area of interest during the Covid-19 lockdown.

As per the Health Risk Assessment (HRA) Score, 1 in 2 Indians is either in the ‘High Risk’ or ‘Borderline’ category. This is a massive 12 per cent improvement from last year’s figures where 62 per cent Indians fell into the ‘Unhealthy’ category.

According to GOQii’s latest India Fit Report 2021, majority of people can become healthy by making few adjustments to their lifestyle. Reduction in commute time and lockdown probably allowed Indians to focus more on their health and making their immune system stronger. From a gender wise perspective, men are healthier in comparison to women. From an age wise perspective, the younger generation is unhealthier in comparison to the older generation.

Blood Pressure

About 15 per cent of users have reported high BP in 2020 in comparison to 13.4 per cent in 2019. This figure, according to the report, has steadily increased over the last 4 years. About 35 per cent users also reported this disease runs in the family which is a significant figure. Blood pressure cases among older adults are just triple of those in adults. Safe to say, then, that people above 45 are at more risk of having hypertension.

Diabetes

An analysis conducted by a full-stack digital ecosystem for diabetes care and management revealed that the average pre-pandemic fasting sugar levels in January till mid-February was 138 mg/dl whereas in March till mid-April it rose to 165 mg/dl. One-third claim this disease runs in the family. The percentage of those suffering from diabetes went triple, from adults to older adults.

Cholesterol

About 13 per cent users reported high cholesterol, a figure that has remained stable for the past two years. On the other hand, only 4 per cent mentioned they had heart issues which is a major decrease from 8.6 per cent in 2019.

Alcohol

Figures for drinking have reduced for almost all of the age groups and across a majority of cities. Many reasons can be accounted for the same. To start with, the biggest reason can be the onset of the nationwide lockdown because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Travelling was restricted and all the major places where usually people used to drink earlier like cafes, restaurants, bars etc. were shut down. All of these cumulatively decreased the drinking of the people as the only option they were left with was to drink at home, which was not a feasible option for a lot of people. Some comfortably did that, while a majority were not that comfortable in drinking amid their family members and hence the number reduced this year.

As compared to last year’s data, there is a significant reduction in the number of people falling sick in every age category this year. This could be due to the increased awareness in people regarding immunity levels through healthy lifestyle and nutrition food choices. The dip in pollution levels across the nation could also be a reason for this.

The report also revealed that stress levels remained high throughout the year. The survey outcome highlighted a rise in stress index from 4.98 in Mid-year to 5.11 at end of the year. Forty-five per cent are currently plagued with depression.

City-wise, Surat, Jaipur and Patna are the top 3 healthiest cities in India, respectively, as revealed by the survey whereas Lucknow, Kolkata and Chennai are the unhealthiest.
