Lifestyle Key to Boosting Good Cholesterol

The neurologist also called for maintaining adequate hydration as “chronic under-hydration and habitual low water intake are associated with higher cardiometabolic risks, including low HDL-C levels”…reports Asian Lite News

Lifestyle measures are crucial to increasing the high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, also known as the “good” cholesterol, said a top neurologist on Tuesday.

Taking to social media platform X, Sudhir Kumar, from Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad explained that low HDL cholesterol levels can increase the “risk of heart attack and stroke”.

On the other hand, higher levels of good cholesterol can also protect against the “risk of heart attacks, stroke, and premature death”.

To increase the HDL-C levels, “lifestyle measures are key”, said the doctor sharing some tips.

Sudhir said that a good sleep of seven hours is essential for high HDL-C levels.

“HDL-C levels sharply reduced in people sleeping for four hours or less,” he said.

He stated the need for aerobic exercises, such as running, brisk walking, cycling, or swimming, for which one should “aim for 4-5 sessions per week”; and three sessions per week of resistance (strength) training.

“Combination of aerobic exercises and strength training has more beneficial effects on HDL-C levels than either of them alone,” the doctor said.

Further, Sudhir stressed the need to quit smoking as “HDL-C levels decrease with smoking, and increase after the cessation of smoking (among smokers)”.

The neurologist also called for maintaining adequate hydration as “chronic under-hydration and habitual low water intake are associated with higher cardiometabolic risks, including low HDL-C levels”.

Regarding dietary approaches, the doctor recommended the consumption of olive oil, avocado, nuts (a handful), and seeds like chia seeds; a low carbohydrate diet; choosing purple produce (rich in anthocyanins).

“Several fruits and vegetables are very high in anthocyanins, such as eggplant, red cabbage, blueberries, blackberries, and black raspberries. Eat fatty fish often (salmon, tuna, mackerel, sardines) to boost HDL levels,” Sudhir said.

He also advised black coffee (5 cups or more/day) without additives, as “it is associated with higher HDL-C levels”. He noted that green tea consumption is not associated with HDL-C levels. Further, the doctor advised to “lose weight (if obese or overweight)” and to manage stress via “meditation, relaxation, taking periodic vacations, engaging in hobbies, etc”

Lifestyle Habits Drive Alarming Cancer Rates in Indian Millennials

According to a recent study by Cancer Mukt Bharat Foundation, a Delhi-based non-profit foundation, 20 per cent of cancer cases in India are now being diagnosed in people below 40 years of age…reports Asian Lite News

Poor lifestyle choices with regular consumption of ultra-processed foods, and a sedentary lifestyle are increasing cancer cases among people under 40 years of age in India, said doctors on Sunday.

Several factors are contributing to the rise in cancer cases among younger people in India.

One of the primary reasons is increased consumption of processed foods, tobacco, and alcohol, sedentary lifestyles, obesity, and stress.

Environmental pollution is another critical factor.

India’s cities are plagued by high levels of pollution, which has been linked to various types of cancer.

Air and water pollution expose individuals to carcinogenic substances, significantly increasing their cancer risk.

“Ultra-processed foods and sedentary lifestyles are emerging as significant contributors to the rising cancer rates among young Indians.

“The high intake of these foods, laden with unhealthy additives, combined with physical inactivity, is creating a health crisis,” Dr. Rahul Bhargava, Director and head of the Department of Haematology and BMT at Fortis Memorial Research Institute told.

“It’s imperative to adopt healthier dietary habits and an active lifestyle to curb this alarming trend,” he added.

According to a recent study by Cancer Mukt Bharat Foundation, a Delhi-based non-profit foundation, 20 per cent of cancer cases in India are now being diagnosed in people below 40 years of age.

The study shows that men constitute 60 per cent of these young cancer patients, while women make up the remaining 40 per cent.

The gender disparity may be due to higher rates of tobacco use, occupational exposure, and lifestyle choices among men in India.

“In our country, escalating rates of obesity, change in dietary habits, specifically the increase in consumption of ultra-processed food, and sedentary lifestyles are associated with higher cancer rates,” said Dr. Ashish Gupta, principal investigator and senior oncologist at Unique Hospital Cancer Center, Delhi, told.

The doctors called for the urgent need for lifestyle interventions to combat the rising cancer rates among young Indians. Dr. Ashish, also heading Cancer Mukt Bharat Campaign in India, emphasised the importance of a “combined effort from the government, healthcare professionals, and the community to tackle the rising cancer rates among young adults”.

“Policies promoting clean air and water, regular physical activity, and access to nutritious food must be prioritised. Additionally, we must invest in better healthcare infrastructure to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment,” he said.

Tips for a Healthier Lifestyle Amidst the Festivities

Fats play a crucial role in a healthy diet. So, learn about the better ones to make an informed choice about eating right. Choose good fats like MUFA and PUFA. MUFA helps increase good cholesterol while PUFA reduces bad cholesterol…reports Asian Lite News

The air is abuzz with excitement and joyous celebrations this season, and one of the reasons is the ongoing wedding season. From attending cosy winter weddings to breezy spring weddings, lengthy preparations across families go into making them remarkable and auspicious celebrations. However, amidst the hustle and bustle of preparing for the grand affair, there is one thing we should continue to focus on —cultivating a healthy lifestyle. It’s the secret to feeling your best and being able to relish every moment of the wedding festivities.

Sheryl Salis, Registered Dietitian and Founder, Nurture Health Solutions, Saffola Nutrition Partner guide us through five simple, everyday steps that can be seamlessly integrated to maintain a healthy lifestyle alongside the chaos of wedding preparations.

Incorporate Smart Meal Sizing

During wedding preparations, savour the joy of good food and avoid post-event guilt by being a little mindful of your health.  This can be achieved through clever portion control. Here’s a practical move: Trade that 12-inch plate for a 9-inch one. Fill half with non-starchy, low-calorie veggies like broccoli and spinach, and limit carbs such as rice and chapati to a modest one-fourth of the portion. Let protein options like eggs, chicken, soya and dal join the party in the remaining space.

Sipping some water before the feast is also a great tip as it helps distinguish between hunger and thirst. And remember to chew your food well, giving your taste buds a delightful encore by relishing each bite. With these simple adjustments, your meals become a celebration of joy and health, leaving you nourished and ready for the festivities ahead.

Making an informed choice: select healthier fats

Fats play a crucial role in a healthy diet. So, learn about the better ones to make an informed choice about eating right. Choose good fats like MUFA and PUFA. MUFA helps increase good cholesterol while PUFA reduces bad cholesterol.

While cooking, opt for multisource (blended) edible oils – a healthier alternative. MSEOs boast a higher smoke point and a good balance of MUFA and PUFA. These oils are laden with antioxidants and are well-proven to deliver several health benefits. These healthier alternatives are better choices for a well-rounded wedding celebration.

Choose better metabolic health and enhanced radiance with whole grains

Whole grains like oats, whole wheat, jowar, bajra and millets are nutritional superheroes and are perfect for boosting overall metabolic health. But these grains play a backstage role in the beauty scene too. Packed with essential vitamins minerals and phytochemicals, they provide essential nourishment to your hair and skin.

This wedding season, rely on whole grains to keep you comfortably full for longer and reduce hunger pangs. One way to incorporate them into your diet is by swapping refined grains with nutrient-rich alternatives like oats, whole wheat, millet or broken wheat. Opt for sweet or savoury oats, whole wheat wraps, daliya, upma or millet-based recipes as healthier alternatives to their refined counterparts. Oats and millets as a combination also fit the bill with high fibre and protein with loads of antioxidants. You can also add some oats to your smoothies or smoothie bowls creating a filling and nutritious meal. With these simple swaps and intake of much-needed protein, fibre, and micro-nutrients, let your inner radiance shine.

Nourish health with leafy greens, vegetables and whole fruits

Wedding preparations are a mix of excitement and stress, so nutrition can become your secret ally. Embrace a nutritious diet rich in vegetables and whole fruits to boost your fibre and micronutrient intake.

Sprinkle veggies like carrots, tomatoes, and green beans into omelettes or toss them into poha, and upma giving them a healthy twist. Prepare vibrant stir-fry creations using broccoli, baby corn, and red and green bell peppers. These small, joyful adjustments sneak more veggies into your routine, leaving you energized.

Make oranges, sweet lime, strawberries, and the in-season fruits your go-to snacks. They provide natural sweetness, perfect for pairing with cereals or oats. Turn them into delightful desserts – sorbets, popsicles, or parfaits – for a guilt-free treat.

Be agile and incorporate physical activity into your routine

Maintain high spirits and a nimble body during wedding preparations by infusing some physical activities into your routine.

Turn on some music during household chores to add extra pep while attending to your cleaning chores at home. Opt for stairs instead of elevators for a mini workout. Turn phone calls into an opportunity to stand up and pace around to add more mobility to your body. Park at the far end of the parking lot or get off the subway or bus one stop early. Download an app to track your steps and boost your motivation. Aim for a daily goal of 10,000 steps or a 30-minute moderate physical activity. Keep these activities in mind as you prepare for the wedding, ensuring a healthier and more joyful celebration.

While it is natural to focus on the aesthetics in the excitement of wedding preparations, it is equally important to prioritize a healthier lifestyle for the celebrations. By embracing the steps mentioned above, you’re not just preparing for a joyous wedding season, you’re setting the stage for a healthier future. So go ahead and let the wellness vibes be at the heart of this year’s wedding celebrations.

Decoding Hypothyroidism

The primary cause of hypothyroidism on a global scale is iodine deficiency, as this essential mineral cannot be naturally synthesized by the body. Including dietary sources such as iodized salt, dairy products, seafood, seaweed, and fortified cereals becomes crucial to address this deficiency…reports Asian Lite News

Navigating the complexities of hypothyroidism can be an overwhelming journey, given the rising prevalence of this condition in the Indian population. Thyroid disorders, affecting nearly 42 million Indians, are among the most common endocrine disorders. Hypothyroidism arises when the thyroid gland fails to produce an adequate amount of thyroid hormone, a crucial regulator of the body’s metabolism. This deficiency can significantly impact energy levels, weight, and overall health. While managing hypothyroidism poses its challenges, adopting the right strategies, such as incorporating a tailored diet and engaging in yoga practices, opens the door to a life of vitality and well-being. Whether you’re newly diagnosed or have long been acquainted with hypothyroidism, these holistic approaches offer promising avenues for enhancing your overall health and quality of life.

Optimal Dietary Choices for Hypothyroidism Management

Exploring the ideal foods for hypothyroidism may not yield surprising selections, as there isn’t a single food that miraculously boosts thyroid hormone levels. However, individuals managing hypothyroidism should focus on incorporating specific foods into their diet for enhanced well-being. Listed below are foods rich in essential vitamins and nutrients crucial for supporting individuals with hypothyroidism:

Iodine

The primary cause of hypothyroidism on a global scale is iodine deficiency, as this essential mineral cannot be naturally synthesized by the body. Including dietary sources such as iodized salt, dairy products, seafood, seaweed, and fortified cereals becomes crucial to address this deficiency.

Iodine plays a pivotal role in the body as it is a fundamental component of thyroid hormones. Individuals lacking in thyroid hormones often correlate with iodine deficiency. To meet the recommended daily intake of iodine, which is 150 micrograms (mcg), one needs less than half the amount found in a teaspoon of iodized salt. Ensuring an adequate supply of this essential nutrient is vital for effective hypothyroidism management.

Vitamin D

A prevalent issue among individuals with hypothyroidism is vitamin D deficiency, although the precise mechanism for this correlation remains unknown. Ensuring sufficient vitamin D intake. The body produces vitamin D due to sun exposure. Diet can play a pivotal role in preventing illnesses associated with its deficiency, such as bone loss and malformations.

Include vitamin D-rich foods in your diet like cheese, mushrooms, fortified foods with vitamin –d such as fortified milk, fortified cereals, eggs, fatty fish like wild-caught salmon, and dairy products like Greek yogurt, to boost your vitamin D levels and contribute to the comprehensive management of hypothyroidism.

Tyrosine

Discussing with your healthcare professional is crucial before increasing foods rich in tyrosine or considering supplements, as this amino acid may interact with hypothyroidism medication.

Given its vital role in thyroid hormone synthesis alongside iodine, ensuring adequate tyrosine intake is essential. Foods containing tyrosine, such as seaweed, turkey, eggs, and cottage cheese, can contribute to a well-balanced diet that supports thyroid health. Always consult with your doctor to personalize your dietary approach to managing hypothyroidism effectively.

Selenium

Selenium, with its highest concentration in the thyroid gland, plays a crucial role in supporting enzymes essential for thyroid function. Given its significance, individuals with hypothyroidism may often find themselves deficient in this vital nutrient, impacting not only thyroid health but also the immune system, cognitive function, and fertility.

Incorporating selenium-rich foods into your diet like cereals, meat, and dairy products, fish, seafood, milk, nuts, sea salt, eggs, yeast, bread, mushrooms, garlic, asparagus, kohlrabi, and onion becomes imperative to address potential deficiencies and promote overall well-being, particularly in those managing hypothyroidism.

Antioxidants

In the realm of hypothyroidism management, the role of antioxidants becomes even more significant. These disease-fighting compounds, abundant in fruits and vegetables, actively combat oxidative stress—a heightened inflammatory state linked with hypothyroidism and various chronic diseases.

Elevate your antioxidant intake by incorporating superfoods like berries, nuts, seeds, and dark-green leafy vegetables, including drumstick leaves, spinach, and kale, into your diet. By doing so, you not only contribute to your overall health but also address the specific challenges associated with hypothyroidism and oxidative stress.

Unlocking the Benefits of Yoga for Managing Hypothyroidism

Embracing yoga as a valuable tool in the management of hypothyroidism can yield significant benefits. While it may not provide an immediate cure, the practice is known to foster glandular health and regulate metabolism, thereby serving as a preventive measure against potential complications. Notably, a study demonstrated that an intensive six-month yoga regimen notably reduced the dependence on thyroxine medication for women with hypothyroidism.

It’s important to note that yoga while offering substantial support for thyroid health, is not a standalone cure for thyroid imbalances. Instead, it functions as a complementary therapy, enhancing overall well-being. It should be integrated into your health regimen alongside existing therapies and medications, ensuring a comprehensive and holistic approach to managing hypothyroidism.

Here are a few yoga asanas that can contribute to supporting thyroid health and overall well-being:

Vipareetkaraniasana – Inverted Pose: Vipareetkaraniasana also known as the Legs Up the Wall pose, enhances your well-being, particularly in managing hypothyroidism. This pose facilitates increased blood flow to the thyroid gland, promoting the regulation of thyroid function.

Steps:

Lie down on your back.

Keep the legs together.

While inhaling, raise both legs, buttocks, and the trunk.

The trunk is held at 45ºangle to the ground.

Keep your neck and head in a neutral position for comfort.

Close your eyes, focus on deep and slow breaths, and maintain the position for some time.

To return, lower the legs over the head and touch the toes to the ground.

Keep the hands down and then while exhaling, bring the spine and the legs down.

Ustrasana – Camel Pose: Ustrasana, commonly known as the Camel Pose, proves to be a thyroid-stimulating yoga posture by effectively stretching the neck and enhancing blood circulation in the thyroid gland. Beyond its thyroid-related benefits, this pose contributes to relieving spinal issues, making it a comprehensive and beneficial addition to your yoga routine.

Steps:

Begin in a kneeling position, ensuring your knees are hip-width apart.

Place your hands on the waist.

While inhaling, raise the arms above the head,

While exhaling, bend back and arch your back, gently reaching your hands towards your heels.

Push your abdomen forward, lift the chest, and bend the head back, avoiding any strain.

Hold the pose for 15-20 seconds, gradually increasing the duration as your flexibility improves.

While inhaling, raise the spine, head, and hands straight up.

While exhaling, bring your hands down.

Sarvangasana – Shoulder Stand: Sarvangasana, commonly known as the Shoulder Stand, plays a pivotal role in maintaining the body’s governing system—the endocrine system. This yoga pose exerts beneficial pressure on the thyroid gland, which receives the largest supply of blood in the body. Through this gentle pressure, Sarvangasana enhances blood circulation, facilitating the release of stagnant secretions within the thyroid gland.

Steps:

Lie down straight on your back with arms by your sides. Keep the legs together.

While inhaling, lift your legs, hips, and torso off the ground.

Bend the elbows and support the lower back on the palms.

Straighten your legs upward, keeping them aligned with your torso.

Breathe normally and hold the pose for 30 seconds to a minute, ensuring your neck and head remain in a comfortable position.

Gradually return to the starting position, gently lowering your legs and torso back to the ground.

Setubandhasana – Bridge Pose: Setubandhasana, also known as the Bridge Pose, is an effective yoga posture, particularly beneficial for individuals dealing with hypothyroidism. This pose involves a gentle stretch of the neck and enhances blood circulation within the thyroid gland, making it a valuable addition to a yoga routine tailored for thyroid health.

Steps:

Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet hip-width apart.

Place your arms alongside your body, palms facing down.

While inhaling, lift your hips and spine towards the ceiling, creating a bridge-like position.

Engage your thighs and lift your chest toward your chin, maintaining a comfortable position for your neck.

Place the palms on the waist and support your lower back.

Hold the pose for 30 seconds to a minute, breathing slowly and deeply.

While exhaling, gently lower your hips and back to the ground.

In the face of hypothyroidism’s challenges, adopting a balanced approach becomes key to achieving optimal well-being. Recognising the prevalence of thyroid disorders among millions, individuals can navigate this journey by incorporating the holistic strategies mentioned above. By focusing on overall health and seeking complementary support when needed, individuals managing hypothyroidism can foster vitality and embrace a life marked by balance and improved quality.

Lifestyle Choices in the Fight Cervical Cancer

A well-balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains contributes significantly to overall health and may reduce the risk of cervical cancer…writes Dr Kalpana Kothari

If you’re dealing with cervical cancer, it’s important to know that the disease often starts slowly, with changes in cervix cells called dysplasia. Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that originates in the cells of the cervix, which is the lower part of the uterus or womb. The cervix connects the uterus to the vagina. Cervical cancer typically develops slowly over many years and often begins with the presence of pre-cancerous changes, known as dysplasia, in the cells on the cervix.

The primary cause of cervical cancer is persistent infection with certain types of the human papillomavirus (HPV). One of the most effective preventive measures against cervical cancer is vaccination. The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, given in early adolescence, protects against the most common types of HPV, which is a leading cause of cervical cancer. Encouraging vaccination for both boys and girls is vital in creating herd immunity and reducing the overall prevalence of HPV.

Cervical cancer is a major health concern worldwide, affecting women of all ages. However, the good news is that many cases of cervical cancer are preventable through a combination of vaccination, regular screenings, and adopting a healthy lifestyle. Here we will know the role that lifestyle choices and healthy habits play in preventing cervical cancer.

Regular Screenings: Early Detection Saves Lives

Regular cervical screenings, such as Pap smears and HPV tests, are essential for the early detection of abnormalities that may lead to cervical cancer. These screenings can identify precancerous changes in the cervix, allowing for prompt intervention and treatment. Women should adhere to the recommended screening schedules, ensuring that any potential issues are detected early when they are most treatable.

Adopting a Healthy Diet

A well-balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains contributes significantly to overall health and may reduce the risk of cervical cancer. Antioxidants and vitamins found in these foods support the body’s immune system, helping it fight off infections, including those caused by HPV. Additionally, maintaining a healthy weight through proper diet and regular exercise is linked to a lower risk of developing cervical cancer.

Tobacco Cessation: A Crucial Step

Tobacco use is a known risk factor for cervical cancer. Smoking not only weakens the immune system but also increases the likelihood of persistent HPV infection. Women who smoke are more likely to develop cervical cancer than non-smokers. Quitting smoking is a crucial step towards reducing the risk of cervical cancer and improving overall health.

Safe Sex Practices: Protecting Against HPV

Practicing safe sex is an important aspect of cervical cancer prevention. HPV is primarily transmitted through sexual contact, and using barrier methods, such as condoms, can reduce the risk of infection. Open communication with sexual partners about sexual health and getting regular screenings are integral components of a comprehensive preventive strategy.

Stress Management: Supporting Immune Function

Chronic stress can weaken the immune system, making the body more susceptible to infections, including HPV. Adopting stress-reducing techniques such as yoga, meditation, and mindfulness can contribute to overall well-being and support the body’s ability to fend off infections.

Preventing cervical cancer requires a multifaceted approach that includes vaccination, regular screenings, and the adoption of healthy lifestyle choices. By making informed decisions about one’s health, women can significantly reduce their risk of developing cervical cancer and lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. Empowering individuals with knowledge about these preventive measures is essential in the ongoing effort to combat cervical cancer and improve women’s overall well-being.

Why Reading Matters?

Storybooks often address emotions, feelings, and social situations that children might be encountering for the first time. Reading about characters who experience similar emotions helps children understand their feelings and develop empathy…writes  Priyanka Shah

Every successful person ends up having one thing in common- their thirst for knowledge. And what do they do to gain such intellect? They read! They read and read about everything on god’s green earth and then form their own thoughts about the many things they’ve read. Sounds easy enough, right? However, it is not.

Let’s be honest, none other than habitual readers can pick a book and start reading it. Developing this habit is a lot harder when you are 30 years old. As consumable content duration shrinks and our tolerance with it, parents must recognise that now is the right time to develop a love for reading early in kids which will surely help them when they grow up. This will give them an early advantage and set them up for success.

Reading storybooks should be a part of every child’s life and it should start as early as possible. One can even start with reading board books to one’s 6 months old baby. In fact, reading books early has many lesser-known benefits such as:

Reading plays a crucial role in a child’s development and overall well-being. The importance of reading and exposure to storybooks cannot be overstated, as they contribute to a wide range of cognitive, emotional, social, and educational benefits.

Reading stimulates brain development by encouraging critical thinking, imagination, and problem-solving skills.

Exposure to books and reading from a young age lays the foundation for early literacy skills, such as letter recognition and understanding the structure of written language.

Storybooks often address emotions, feelings, and social situations that children might be encountering for the first time. Reading about characters who experience similar emotions helps children understand their feelings and develop empathy.

The habit of reading is something that pays off for a long time! Children who enjoy reading are more likely to seek out knowledge and continue exploring new ideas as they grow older.

However, the screen time dilemma has become every parent’s nightmare. No matter how much parents try, the screens dominate every child’s life and it is close to impossible to keep them away from screens all the time. Finding the right balance and managing screen time effectively is crucial for the healthy development and well-being of children.

But in a screen-dominated world where do the pretty little paperbacks fit? How does one walk the tightrope between screen and story? While we are surrounded by technology, we often forget that we are living in the age of knowledge where we can find solutions to many challenges. Here is a list of platforms that took this challenge head-on. These platforms are constantly working on bridging to make screen time worthwhile by helping kids develop cool reading habits in a digital playground:

But with moderated content and platforms you’ll soon find that your child’s screen time can be a source of smiles through the pleasure of reading! A healthy combination of workout and fasting

During fasting, glycogen levels in your body are low. This encourages the body to use stored fat as a source of energy…reports Asian Lite News

Fasting has been a tradition as old as any. We all have fasted at one time or another, for various reasons including but not limited to cultural, religious, and health purposes.

While fasts are often observed for good health, an unhealthy myth follows this custom. It is often believed that one should not workout during fasting. But, the truth cannot be any far from the truth. In reality, working out during fasts can actually be beneficial, as long as you know what kind of workout plan works for you.

While you do need to consider certain things while working out during a fast, it is preferable to not skip your workout. Kushal Pal Singh, Fitness and Performance Expert of Anytime Fitness discusses how to schedule your workout during fasts.

Benefits Of Workout During Fasting

Contrary to popular belief, working out during fasting can have ample benefits. Let’s take a look at some of them below.

Fat Burning: During fasting, glycogen levels in your body are low. This encourages the body to use stored fat as a source of energy.

Improved insulin sensitivity: A healthy combination of workout and fasting aids in enhanced insulin sensitivity which can improve blood sugar control and have long-term benefits for metabolic health.

Mind-body connection: Fasting can create a heightened sense of awareness and mindfulness. Coupled with exercise, it can enhance the mind-body connection and promote a deeper sense of focus and presence during your workouts.

Mental focus and clarity: Some individuals report improved mental focus and clarity during fasted workouts. This could be due to the body adapting to using alternative fuel sources and the potential cognitive benefits associated with fasting.

How To Revamp Your Workout During Fasting?

Oftentimes, after knowing the benefits of the workout during fasting, people may get too excited and indulge in an extreme workout. And, that is exactly what is not to be done. Working out during a fast requires a strategy to compensate for the lack of energy. Too much of anything is wrong, and the rule applies here too. So, how should one workout during fasting? Just follow the guide below, and you should be able to workout efficiently during a calorie deficiency.

Avoid Heavy Workouts: Engaging in heavy or intense workouts during fasting periods can be challenging for your body due to limited energy and hydration. It’s generally recommended to avoid heavy workouts during fasting to ensure your well-being and prevent potential health risks. Some of the reasons for this may include lower energy levels, a dehydrated body, muscle breakdown, and irrelevant resources for recovery and repair of the body.

Instead of heavy workouts, consider opting for lighter, low-intensity exercises, such as gentle cardio, yoga, or stretching during fasting periods. These activities can help maintain movement, promote flexibility, and provide a lower-intensity option that is more suitable during fasting.

Maintain Energy Level: Maintaining the right levels of energy is important for a fruitful workout. You won’t be able to utilize your workout time if you do not have enough resources to move about. So, what can you do?

Schedule your workout in accordance with the time of the day when you have the most energy. It may take some time to figure out the right time frame, but once you understand it, you will be able to workout during fasting more efficiently.

Consume a balanced meal during the non-fasting window ahead of your workout. Select foods that contain a variety of complex carbs, lean protein, and healthy fats. This can help you maintain energy levels during your workout.

It may be beneficial for you to reduce the strenuousness of your workouts while fasting. Focus on low to moderate-intensity activities that are less exhausting.

Prioritize restoring your energy stores and providing your body with the nutrition it requires for replenishment after your workout and breaking the fast. Eat a well-balanced meal with carbohydrates for energy, protein for muscle repair, and healthy fats for satiety.

Focus On More Cardio And Fewer Weights: During a fast, focusing on cardio exercises and reducing the intensity of weightlifting can be a suitable approach. Here are some tips for incorporating more cardio and reducing weight-lifting during fasting:

Opt for activities like jogging, brisk walking, cycling, swimming, or aerobics as your primary workout during the fasting period.

Perform cardio exercises at a moderate intensity level that allows you to maintain a steady pace without excessive strain.

Consider interval training, alternating between periods of higher and lower intensity, to challenge yourself while still focusing on cardio.

If you wish to include some weight training, choose lighter weights and perform fewer repetitions rather than heavy lifting that could cause undue strain on your body.

Listen to your body and adjust the duration and intensity of your workouts according to your energy levels and comfort.

Workout For A Less Time: Working out for a shorter duration during fasting can be a practical approach to ensure you don’t overexert yourself and maintain your energy levels. You may instead engage in low to moderate interval training.
