Lulu Expands, Shawamekh Hypermarket Now Open

Retail giant Lulu Group has expanded its presence in Abu Dhabi by opening a new hypermarket at Shawamekh Central Mall in the city’s suburbs.

Humaid Al Marzouqi, Director of Wathba Municipality Center, inaugurated the Hypermarket in the presence of Yusuf Ali MA, Chairman of Lulu Group and other dignitaries.

The latest retail shopping destination also offers enriching shopping experience to the citizens and residents of Shawamekh and its surrounding areas. The shopping centre also boasts of other tenants such as money exchange, ATM, F & B outlets, pharmacy, jewellery shop and other amenities making it a community oriented complete retail destination in the neighbourhood.

Anchor tenant Lulu hypermarket is spread over 85,000 square feet and comes packed with all the favourite shopping features that have made LuLu the top retail chain across UAE. A well-stocked supermarket with the choicest selection of ingredients from across the world, fresh food in the Hot Foods section, bakery, electronics, household need and much more.

Humaid Al Marzouqi, Director of Wathba Municipality Center, said: “we always extends support to projects and initiatives that serve the community, and Lulu, is one of the key supporters to such partnership between all government agencies in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. This new hypermarket will surely serve the diverse needs of residents in this locality and also support the local agriculture sector.”

On the occasion Yusuff Ali said, “as part of our expansion plan, we are on the track to open new hypermarkets across UAE in the coming years, which will give more employment to the local work force. In Abu Dhabi Emirate alone, we plan to open 7 new hypermarkets by next year, especially in the suburbs and interior regions, so that our shoppers don’t have to travel long distance for world-class shopping. Lulu Group to invest Rs 4000 crores in Gujarat

UAE-based retailer LuLu Group is set to construct what it termed India’s biggest shopping mall, in Ahmedabad, with an estimated cost of Rs 4,000 crore.

The construction for the proposed shopping mall will start in 2024 itself, said Yusuff Ali MA, Chairman and Managing Director of Lulu Group International, talking to ANI on the sidelines of the ongoing Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit.

A miniature has been put up for display at the UAE stall in Vibrant Gujarat.

“The construction for India’s biggest shopping mall will start, and it is a miniature (model). The construction will start this year itself,” said Ali.

In September 2023, Yusuff Ali gave a hint that his group was going to set up two large shopping malls in India – in Ahmedabad and Chennai.

“We are going to construct one of the largest shopping malls in Ahmedabad and Chennai and we are opening our shopping mall in Hyderabad end of this month. Also we are going to different states for shopping malls and food processing,” he had said, speaking to ANI.

Currently, it has malls in six Indian cities — Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Coimbatore, and Hyderabad being the latest.

Lulu Group, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, UAE, has been known as a trendsetter in the retail industry in the Middle East and North Africa region. It operates over 250 hypermarkets and supermarkets and is immensely popular with discerning shoppers across the GCC, Egypt, India, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

Earlier, Yusuff Ali said that India under the “dynamic leadership” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is considered as an emerging power and one of the strongest economies in the world. He said that 3.54 million Indians form an integral part of development of UAE’s economy. “Today, the common focus of both UAE and India is peace, stability, and economic progress.

UAE under the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is a dynamic and one of the most advanced nations in the world. On other hand, India under the dynamic leadership of Shri Narendra Modi Ji is considered as an emerging power and one of the strongest economies in the world,” Yusuff Ali MA said.

“More than 3.54 million Indians form an integral part of growth and development of UAE’s economy and society. Indians are also earning their present better with that most dignity and respect here,” he added.

He said that India and UAE will continue to move forward with greater cooperation. He called Abu Dhabi a safe and secure place to work and live and an incubator for talents, innovators and entrepreneurs.

“There are no limits of relationship between both our countries as rightly our minister mentioned. So, we would continue to move forward with greater cooperation. Today UAE, Abu Dhabi, particularly has become a key economic hub and the preferred go to destination due to its advanced world class architecture and huge investment opportunities in key sectors, including energy, IT, logistics, food medicine, tourism, and….,” he said.

Heaping praise on PM Modi for his leadership, he said that India has liberalized a lot of policies, especially the investment policy for non-resident Indians.

“In India, under the dynamic leadership of the Prime Minister. they liberalized a lot of policies, especially the investment policy for non-resident Indians. We had non-resident Indians had a lot of problems in Western India. But under the dynamic leadership of our prime minister Narendra Modi ji. They liberalised and now NRI investment is treated as domestic investment. This is a great opportunity for non-resident Indians back home to invest in India,” Yusuff Ali MA said.  (ANI)

LuLu Group sends relief aid to Gaza

Leading retail conglomerate, LuLu Group has lent a compassionate hand to the people of Gaza, sending much needed relief materials. The first batch of aid consists of 50 tonnes of food products and other essentials such as medicines and hygiene products were handed over the Egypt Red Crescent authorities in Cairo, today.

Dr. Rami El Nasser, Chief Executive Officer of the Egypt Red Crescent received the aid from Lulu Egypt and Bahrain Director Juzer Rupawala, Regional Director Husefa Qureshi, and LuLu Egypt Manager Hatim Sayeed. The Red Crescent authorities will deliver these items in Arish town through the Al Rafah border.

Dr. Rami El Nasser welcomed the initiative and expressed his gratitude to LuLu Group and its Chairman Yusuff Ali for this timely support for the people of Palestine.

LuLu Group is also a key partner of UAE’s “Tarahum for Gaza” relief campaign, and has set up special aid centers at various Lulu hypermarkets to collect & send various aid materials in association with Emirates Red Crescent.

Lulu Group is closely working with other Gulf countries based Humanitarian agencies for similar initiatives. Recently Lulu Group in Bahrain had donated BD25000 (approx. Dhs. 250,000) to the Royal Humanitarian Foundation in support of the Bahrain National Campaign.

Lulu Group Enters Noida

Noida has been shortlisted as the destination where another mall spanning over 14-to-15-acre wide area, is going to come up…reports Asian Lite News

The Lulu Group is all set to launch its next hyper mall in Noida apart from opening small-scale retail malls in five more cities in a phased manner.

The decision has been taken after sensing growth opportunities in the regional centres of Uttar Pradesh.

Senior executives from the company said that Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj and Jhansi had been shortlisted for further expansion of the retail business in the state.

Noida has been shortlisted as the destination where another mall spanning over 14-to-15-acre wide area, is going to come up.

The diversified group which is into retail, food processing among other sectors is also contemplating to set up satellite stores in more locations in Lucknow to cater to more consumers.

“We are exploring the idea of setting up more hypermarket stores within Lucknow. With a packed schedule it is not easy to commute beyond office hours and a store in the neighbourhood would be helpful to such customers,” said Jaya Kumar Gangadharan, director, Lulu Mall, Lucknow.

Launched in July last year, the hypermarket in Lucknow generates the highest footfall for the group among its half a dozen such malls in the country.

On a daily basis, 40,000 to 50,000 individuals, including families from the eastern UP, Nepal and other parts of the state, visit the property.

The business and daily footfall are expected to go up by 30 per cent during the upcoming festival season compared to the last one, said Gangadharan.

“During the last season, the daily footfall in the mall ranged between 25,000 to 35,000. At present, Lucknow property attracts the largest number of patrons in the country,” he added.

General manager of the hypermarket in Lucknow, Noman Aziz Khan revealed that ready-to-eat food items, particularly chaat counters, attract the highest number of visitors. From Thursday, the hypermarket will start its festive celebrations.

Lulu Group is expanding into European markets, with its latest venture being the historic city of Milan in Italy. To enhance its sourcing operations and procure high-quality products for its extensive chain of hypermarkets, the Abu Dhabi-based retail giant LULU Group has officially inaugurated its world-class sourcing, food processing, and export hub in Italy.

Lulu Group has similar food processing centres in UK, USA, Spain, Turkey, Vietnam, Thailand, China, South Africa among others.

This move by the Lulu Group will further boost its sourcing operations not only from Italy but also from nearby European countries to ensure uninterrupted supply and price stability of food products.

Ideally located ideally at World Trade Center Malpensa Airport in Milan, the state-of-the-art facility will primarily focus on sourcing, processing, storing, packaging and exporting of top quality food products from Italy to more than 255 Lulu Hypermarkets spread across GCC countries, Egypt, India, Indonesia and Malaysia.

The focus categories will be varieties of cheeses, chocolates, fruit jams, sweet and puff pastries, organic pasta, infused extra-virgin olive oil, high—quality sea—salt from well-known Italian brands. Apart from packed food the center will also source and export a wide range of fruits & vegetables mainly apples, grapes, kiwi, olives, etc.

Chief Guest, Mr. Guidesi expressed his excitement in having Lulu Group’s this new project in Italy and assured highest level of support and cooperation that will further enhance trade tie between Italy and the Arab world.

Lulu Chief Welcomes Modi

Lulu Group Chairman, MA Yousafali, exchanged greetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a lunch event held at the Abu Dhabi Presidential Palace.

MA Yousafali, who also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Chamber, attended the banquet as a special invitee of the UAE government.

The event was attended by members of the UAE royal family, ministers, and senior government representatives, emphasising the significance of the occasion and the strong ties between the UAE and India.

During his one-day visit to the UAE, Prime Minister Modi was served a vegetarian lunch prepared in vegetable oils, without any egg or dairy products.

A full vegetarian meal was prepared at the banquet hosted by the UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in honour of PM Narendra Modi. The full vegetarian lunch had begun with a salad made of harees (wheat) and dates with local organic vegetables.

The starters were grilled vegetables with masala sauce followed by the main course which would include black lentil and local harees (wheat) with cauliflower and carrot tandoori.

The dessert served in the lunch was a selection of seasonal local fruits.

All meals were vegetarian and prepared with vegetable oils and contained no egg or dairy products.

During his meeting with UAE President Zayed Al Nahyan at the Qasr Al Watan Presidential Palace, PM Modi said that he is very glad to come to Abu Dhabi and meet the President. “I feel like I am at my second home. I thank you for the cordial welcome you gave to me and my delegation,” said PM Modi.

Recalling last year’s visit, when the UAE President received PM Modi at the airport, PM Modi said, “Last year during my visit, you yourself came to the airport to meet me. There cannot be a greater proof of affinity than the respect that you have given to me. I have always received brotherly affection from you and have always felt your commitment to policies.”

PM Modi further said that in the last few years, relations between India and UAE have expanded because of a huge contribution from the UAE side.

“In the last few years, our relations have expanded and there is a huge contribution from your side. Your vision and clear thinking is the biggest strength for this nation. That is why everyone looks at you like a true friend,” PM Modi added.

PM Modi received a dazzling welcome in UAE as the iconic Burj Khalifa was lit up in the colours of the Indian national flag. As a part of the light-and-sound show the skyscraper also showcased PM Modi’s picture, followed by “Welcome Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi”. (with inputs from ANI)
