Netherlands starts 4-day EU elections across 27 nations

The Dutch voting, occurring six months post Geert Wilders’ far-right Party for Freedom’s notable gains in the national parliament, sent ripples across Europe….reports Asian Lite News

The Netherlands has initiated four days of European Union elections across 27 nations, setting the stage for a crucial democratic exercise expected to highlight the rise of hard-right parties, The Washington Post reported.

Polls have opened in the Netherlands, marking the beginning of four days of voting in European Union parliamentary elections across the 27 member states.

Estonia has already commenced its voting period, which spans six days starting from Monday. However, the Netherlands stands out as the only EU country to begin its single-day vote so early.

Ireland will follow suit on Friday, with the rest of the EU nations participating over the weekend. The results of the elections will be announced on Sunday night, culminating in a Europe-wide revelation after all member states have completed voting, as reported by The Washington Post.

The Dutch voting process comes six months after Geert Wilders’ far-right Party for Freedom made significant strides in the Dutch national parliament, sending shockwaves across Europe. Current polling suggests that Wilders will continue to capitalise on this momentum, potentially setting a trend for the broader European political landscape.

In the aftermath of the previous EU elections five years ago, populist, far-right, and extremist parties have gained prominence in several EU nations. They now either lead governments in three EU countries or are part of governing coalitions in others, indicating a surge in public support across the continent.

The EU elections represent the world’s second-largest democratic exercise, trailing only behind India’s elections in terms of scale. With almost 400 million voters across the EU, the electorate will select 720 members of the European Parliament, spanning from the Arctic circle to the borders of Africa and Asia. The outcome of these elections will shape policies on global issues ranging from climate change and defence to migration and international relations with major players like China and the United States.

Since the last European elections in 2019, geopolitical dynamics have shifted significantly. The invasion of Ukraine by Russia has brought conflict to the fringe of the EU, underscoring the importance of the union’s role in maintaining peace and stability in the region. Ukraine, aspiring to join the EU, further underscores the geopolitical complexities at play.

Despite being a founding member, the Netherlands has witnessed growing dissatisfaction with EU policies among its populace. Research from the Clingendael think tank indicates that while the majority of Dutch citizens believe in remaining within the bloc, there is also a prevalent sentiment for greater self-sufficiency.

As voters across the EU are anticipated to shift towards the right, the Christian Democrat-dominated European People’s Party, led by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, remains the largest bloc in the EU legislature. It is poised to play a pivotal role in forming coalitions once the election results are tallied, according to The Washington Post.

In the Netherlands, Wilders’ PVV stands to potentially expand its domestic success into the European arena, possibly surpassing the combined strength of the Labour Party and Green Left. In the 2019 Dutch EU Parliament election, Labour secured 19 per cent of the vote, earning six seats, while the Greens claimed 11 per cent and three seats.

In contrast, Wilders’ party only managed to secure 3.5 per cent of the vote with no seats. However, with the backing of the Farmer Citizen Movement, Wilders has garnered support, particularly from farmers protesting against what they perceive as stifling EU regulations.

While Wilders has previously advocated for a Dutch exit from the EU, his party’s manifesto for the current election cycle does not explicitly mention a “Nexit.” Instead, it calls for reform from within the EU, aligning with the approach of other hard-right parties across the bloc.

The allocation of MEPs across member states varies based on population size, ranging from six seats for smaller nations like Malta, Luxembourg, and Cyprus to 96 seats for Germany. Following the departure of the United Kingdom from the EU in 2020, the number of MEPs decreased from 751 to 705, with some seats reallocated to other member states.

MEPs play a crucial role in shaping EU legislation, covering a wide array of areas such as climate, banking, agriculture, fisheries, security, and justice. Additionally, they hold sway over the EU budget, which is integral to implementing European policies, including aid provisions to countries like Ukraine.

Following the election, MEPs will convene to elect their president during the first plenary session scheduled from July 16-19. Subsequently, likely in September, they will nominate the president of the European Commission, based on a proposal put forth by member states. In the 2019 elections, Ursula von der Leyen secured a narrow victory to become the first woman to lead the European Commission, The Washington Post reported. (ANI)

Netherlands Faces Political Shift

Former European Commissioner Frans Timmermans was elected leader of the PvdA-GroenLinks…reports Asian Lite News

The Netherlands will go to the polls on Wednesday to elect a new Parliament and its first new Prime Minister in more than 10 years.

Since 2010, Mark Rutte has held the post of Prime Minister.

Having served four terms, he announced his departure from politics after his government collapsed in July this year following the coalition parties’ failure to agree on measures to limit the influx of asylum seekers, reports Xinhua news agency.

Rutte’s last cabinet consisted of the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), the Democrats 66 (D66) and the smaller Christian Union (CU).

Dilan Yesilgoz-Zegerius succeeded Rutte at the head of the VVD.

She was minister of justice in Rutte’s last cabinet.

The VVD was not the only party to change leaders.

Former European Commissioner Frans Timmermans was elected leader of the PvdA-GroenLinks.

Rob Jetten, outgoing minister for climate and energy policy, succeeded former Deputy Prime Minister Sigrid Kaag as D66 leader, and the CDA’s new leader is Henri Bontenbal.

The above parties got serious competition from the New Social Contract (NSC) party.

It is led by Pieter Omtzigt, a Dutch Christian Democrat member of Parliament for 18 years who received praise and popularity for his role in bringing attention to the childcare benefits tax scandal, which caused the fall of the third Rutte government.

According to the latest polls conducted by Peilingwijzer and cited by national broadcaster NOS, the election race promises to remain tight and the final result is hard to predict.

The VVD, the largest party in the previous four elections under Rutte, are on top with 26 to 30 seats.

The Party for Freedom (PVV) of Geert Wilders rose to 22 to 28 parliamentary seats in the past week.

Omtzigt’s NSC dropped to 19 to 25 seats, and the PvdA-GroenLinks alliance is projected to win 21 to 25 seats.

Netherlands stun Proteas

South Africa are now at the third spot with two wins and a loss and four points. The Netherlands are at ninth with a win, two losses…reports Asian Lite News

Netherlands caused the second big upset of this World Cup on Tuesday as they defeated fancied South Africa by 38 runs in Dharamshala.

A three-wicket haul by Logan van Beek, a half-century by skipper Scott Edwards and an all-round show by Roelof van der Merwe helped the Netherlands beat South Africa, two days after Afghanistan caused an upset by defeating England.

South Africa are now at the third spot with two wins and a loss and four points. The Netherlands are at ninth with a win, two losses.

Chasing 246 runs in 43 overs, the Proteas started decently, with Quinton de Kock and skipper Temba Bavuma unleashing some big hits. However, Colin Ackermann ended the partnership between the duo at 36 runs, dismissing de Kock for 20 as he was caught by Scott Edwards. South Africa were 36/1 in eight overs.

In the next two overs or so, the game swung in favour of the Netherlands as they got rid of skipper Bavuma (16) after he was cleaned up by Roelef van der Merwe. Paul van Meekeren clean-bowled Aiden Markram for just one. Merwe in his next over also removed Rassie van der Dussen for four runs after being caught by Aryan Dutt. South Africa were 44/4 in 11.2 overs.

Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller, the backbone of Protea’s middle-order started to rebuild the innings and the team reached the 50-run mark in 12.5 overs.

Klaasen-Miller were nearing a fifty-run partnership when Klaasen was removed by Logan van Beek for 28. He was caught by Vikramjit Singh at fine leg. Proteas were 89/5 in 18.5 overs.

Miller with Marco Jansen took Proteas beyond the 100-run mark in 22.2 overs.

Meekeran delivered another blow to Proteas by rattling Jansen’s stumps when he was at nine. Proteas were now 109/6 in 25 overs.

Miller and Gerald Coetzee continued the innings and brought down the deficit to just a little more than 100 runs.

Just when Miller looked threatening and van Beek clean-bowled him for 43 runs. Coetzee did not last much longer and was removed for 22 after he was caught by Scott Edwards. Bas de Leede got the wicket. The Proteas were 147/8 in 33.1 overs.

De Leede removed Kagiso Rabada for just nine reducing South Africa to 166/9 in 35.1 overs, one wicket away from an upset.

Keshav Maharaj tried to put up a fight alongside Lungi Ngidi (7*), but was caught behind by Scott Edwards and gave Van Beek his third wicket. Maharaj was back in the pavilion for 40 and South Africa lost the match by 38 runs. They were all out for 207 runs in 42.5 overs.

Van Beek (3/60) was the pick of the bowlers for the Netherlands. Merwe, Leede and Meekeran also took two wickets. Ackermann got one wicket.

Earlier, a half-century by skipper Scott Edwards and his quickfire stands with Roelof van der Merwe and Aryan Dutt helped the Netherlands reach a respectable 245/8 in 43 overs.

Put to bat first by South Africa in the 43-over-per-side affair due to rain, the Netherlands were off to a decent start with opener Max O’Dowd hitting Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen for fours. Vikramjit Singh tried to keep matters steady at the other end but did not last long. A top edge by Vikramjit landed in the hands of Heinrich Klaasen, giving Kagiso Rabada his first wicket.

Vikramjit was out for two and the Netherlands were 22/1 in 6.1 overs.

O’Dowd was caught behind by Quinton de Kock on a delivery by Marco Jansen for 18 (25 balls, four boundaries). The Netherlands were 24/2 in 7.1 overs.

Bas de Leede and Colin Ackermann started to rebuild the innings, taking Netherlands to 32/2 in their 10 overs of powerplay.

Rabada got his second wicket, the big one of de Leede and The Netherlands were 40/3 in 10.5 overs.

The Dutch side reached the 50-run mark in 13.1 overs.

Ackermann was cleaned up by Gerald Coetzee for a struggling 13 (25 balls) and the Netherlands were reduced to 50/4 in 15.1 overs.

Sybrand Engelbrecht and Teja Nidamanuru took the Netherlands innings forward. Just when it looked like they take the side beyond 100 runs, Lungi Ngidi struck to remove Sybrand for 19 (37 balls). The Netherlands were 82/5 in 20.2 overs.

Skipper Scott Edwards joined Teja at the crease and took the Netherlands to the 100-run mark in 23.4 overs with the help of a fine boundary.

The 30-run partnership between the two ended with Jansen trapping Teja lbw for 20 (25 balls, three fours). The Netherlands were 112/6 in 27 overs.

Skipper Scott was joined by all-rounder Logan van Beek. They had a brief partnership before van Beek was stumped by de Kock for 10. Keshav Maharaj took his first wicket. The Netherlands were 140/7 in 33.5 overs.

Reolef van der Merwe came to the crease and released some pressure by smashing Coetzee for 15 runs in the 35th over, including two fours and a six and 150 runs came in 34.5 overs.

Reolof and Scott then launched a brutal assault on South African bowlers, with Edwards getting his 14th ODI fifty in 53 balls. They brought up a fifty-run stand in 30 balls.

The 64-run partnership ended after Reolof was caught behind by de Kock on a Ngidi delivery for 29 (19 balls, three fours and a six). The Netherlands were 204/8 in 39.5 overs.

Edwards and Aryan Dutt did not remove their feet from the accelerator. Dutt smashed three sixes preying on the bad line and length of Rabada, Coetzee and Ngidi.

Netherlands ended at 245/8 in 43 overs, with Dutt 23* (nine balls) and Edwards 78* (69 balls, 10 fours and a six).

Jansen (2/28), Rabada (2/56) and Ngidi (2/56) were the main strikers in South African bowling. Coetzee and Maharaj got a wicket each. (ANI)

UAE, Netherlands Join Forces for Energy and Advanced Tech

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed bilateral cooperation in the investment, economic, educational, cultural, technology, and science fields….reports Asian Lite News

UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Netherland Prime Minister Mark Rutte discussed the strength of bilateral relations and strategic cooperation between the two countries and opportunities to develop ties to serve mutual interests, in addition to various regional and international developments.

This came during His Highness’ reception of the Dutch Prime Minister at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi, where His Highness welcomed Rutte and expressed his hope that the visit would contribute to advancing UAE-Netherlands relations in key fields.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed bilateral cooperation in the investment, economic, educational, cultural, technology, and science fields.

They also discussed renewable energy, sustainable development and climate action.

Later, Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, and PM Rutte have agreed to deepen collaboration on industries of the future during a CEO roundtable in Dubai held under the theme “Energizing the Future”.

They both expressed the desire to catalyze investment flows and joint ventures in priority sectors such as renewable energy, space industry, artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, agri-tech and smart mobility solutions, and concluded the meeting by witnesses the signing of an agreement to cooperate on water management.

Mark Rutte was leading a Dutch delegation to the United Arab Emirates to seek stronger trade and investment ties between the two nations, including the establishment of a sustainable economic corridor that can leverage the opportunities created by Net Zero and the drive for decarbonized value chains. This includes the potential for the transportation of green hydrogen between the two nations.

The UAE and The Netherlands have been expanding bilateral relations in recent years, with The Netherlands among the UAE’s top-five trading partners in the EU. In the first half of 2023, bilateral non-oil trade reached AED11.2 billion, representing a 20.4 percent increase on the same period in 2022.

Al Zeyoudi said that the roundtable, which also featured Gerard Paul Marie Hubert Steigs, Ambassador of The Kingdom of the Netherlands to the UAE, helped underline a commitment to working together to develop pioneering solutions to the world’s most pressing issues. “The Kingdom of the Netherlands is a long-standing ally in our journey to develop an agile economy that is built on knowledge and innovation. Our private sectors have already forged important joint-ventures in sectors such as agri-tech and energy transition, and we believe that there are many more high-value opportunities to explore on the path to Net Zero. We both share a vision of long-term, sustainable growth based on technology and talent, and believe our meeting today will spark a new wave of cooperation on multiple fronts.”

Prime Minister Mark Rutte agreed that both sides have many synergies on the issue of sustainability. “The United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands have a lot in common. We are both trading nations with a big global impact, so it’s only logical that our relationship has a strong focus on trade and investment. But we also both have major ambitions for green hydrogen and that’s why we are strengthening ties to create a green hydrogen corridor of the future.”

The minister also invited Dutch entities to take advantage of the many incentives offered within the UAE’s dynamic business ecosystem, which include full foreign ownership, flexible tax policies, and fast-track business setup and licensing. He also highlighted the nation’s global connectivity, which is supported by world-class infrastructure and a new generation of trade deals under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement program. UAE-based exporters now have seamless access to the markets of India, Israel, Indonesia, Türkiye and Cambodia, which represent almost a quarter of the world’s population.

Zelenskyy visits Netherlands, Denmark; hails pact on F-16 aircrafts

“The aim of this delivery is to protect Ukraine. We plan to provide the jets closer to the new year, about six of them, then eight in the next year and then another five,” CNN quoted her as saying…reports Asian Lite News

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hailed the “historic” supply of F-16 aircraft by the Netherlands and Denmark which is expected to help Kyiv’s counteroffensive against Moscow, CNN reported on Sunday.

The Netherlands and Denmark will be providing Ukraine with long-anticipated F-16 aircraft after the US approved sending the aircraft to Kyiv allowing Ukrainian pilots to begin training on the fighter jets.

F-16s are single-engine, multi-role jet aircraft, meaning they can be used in air-to-air or ground-attack missions.

Notably, Kyiv has urgently been calling on its Western allies to provide F-16 jets, as its slow-moving counteroffensive is hampered by Russian air superiority, according to CNN.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Zelenskyy at Eindhoven airport in the Netherlands, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said that his country would “commit to delivering F-16 aircraft to Ukraine once the conditions for such a transfer have been met.”

Zelenskyy hailed the agreement as “historic” and “the most important” one yet.

“The Netherlands became the first country to agree to provide Ukraine with F-16s after training. I am very grateful,” CNN quoted him as saying.

He said that Ukraine would get 42 F-16 fighter jets after training for Ukrainian pilots and engineers is completed, according to his agreement with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Kyiv Independent reported.

“And this is only the beginning,” Zelenskyy added.

He further ruled out any possibility of “giving away” Ukrainian territory in return for peace.

“Ukraine will not exchange its territory with Russia in a potential peace deal,” Kyiv Independent quoted Zelenskyy as saying at the press conference on Sunday.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said on August 20 that Ukraine would get 42 F-16 fighter jets after training for Ukrainian pilots and engineers is completed, according to his agreement with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. “And this is only the beginning,” Zelensky added.

However, even with this agreement, it will take months until Ukraine will be able to use these jets.

Earlier on Sunday, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a statement stated that it had agreed to provide F-16s. Conditions for the transfer include training Ukrainian personnel, setting up infrastructure and logistics, and receiving the necessary authorization, it said.

But, it is not clear yet how many aircraft will be provided by the Netherlands, CNN reported.

“At this moment, the Netherlands still owns 42 F-16s. Out of these 42, we need planes to help training in Denmark and later on in Romania,” Rutte said.

He added that the Netherlands would look into whether all of the remaining planes could be supplied but stated that he could not yet give a definitive number

After his visit to the Netherlands, Zelenskyy went to Denmark where he met Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

“Today we announce that we will provide 19 F-16 jets to Ukraine, we believe Danish fighter jets will help protect your skies,” Frederiksen said.

“The aim of this delivery is to protect Ukraine. We plan to provide the jets closer to the new year, about six of them, then eight in the next year and then another five,” CNN quoted her as saying.

The meetings come after a US official on Friday said the US had committed to approving the transfer of F-16 fighter jets for Ukraine as soon as training is complete.

Ukraine’s Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov said on Saturday that Ukrainian pilots had begun training.

Meanwhile, the US decision of approving the transfer of F-16s marks a sharp turnaround by the Biden administration, which for the last year had refused to approve any transfer of the aircraft or conduct training for fear that it could escalate tensions with Russia. The change indicates a new sense of urgency from Washington to get fighter jets to the battlefield as soon as possible, amid growing concerns about the prospects for Kyiv’s slow-going counteroffensive, according to Politico.

Last month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that Moscow will consider the supply of F-16s to Ukraine as “a threat from the West in the nuclear sphere” because of the jets’ ability to carry nuclear weapons. On Friday, he renewed the warning that in providing arms to Ukraine, the NATO allies risk entering “a situation of direct armed confrontation of nuclear powers,” Politico reported. (ANI)

Indian Crewman Killed, 20 Injured as Ship Engulfs in Flames off Dutch Coast

The Indian Embassy in the Netherlands said it was in touch with the victim’s family and making efforts for his repatriation….reports Asian Lite News

An Indian crewman was killed and at least 20 others injured when a fire broke out onboard a cargo ship carrying nearly 3,000 vehicles, off the Dutch coast.

Several crew members jumped off to save themselves from the fire that erupted on Tuesday night on the 199-metre Panama-registered Fremantle Highway as it was en route from Germany to Egypt.

The Indian Embassy in the Netherlands said it was in touch with the victim’s family and making efforts for his repatriation.

“We are deeply saddened by the incident involving Ship ‘Fremantle Highway’ in North Sea, resulting in the death of an Indian seafarer & injuries to the crew. Embassy of India is in touch with family of the deceased & is assisting in repatriation of the mortal remains,” the Embassy tweeted on Wednesday.

“Embassy is also in touch with the remaining 20 injured crew members, who are safe and receiving medical attention. All possible assistance is being extended in coordination with the Dutch authorities and the shipping company.”

According to the Guardian, the ship’s owner said an electric car in the cargo was suspected as a possible cause for the blaze in the area, which has been declared a Unesco world heritage site and has a rich diversity of more than 10,000 aquatic and terrestrial species.

After the fire, rescue ships sprung into action and sprayed water on to the burning vessel to cool it down.

In addition, a salvage vessel was hooked on to stop the ship from drifting.

A helicopter airlifted the remaining people from the 23-strong crew off the burning ship.

The injured crew were being treated for breathing problems, burns, and broken bones, the Guardian said quoting local Dutch authorities.

“The ship is still on fire. The recovery vessel Hunter has an emergency connection to the ship and is holding the ship in a controlled position. Multiple parties are working on an action plan to limit the damage as much as possible,” the Coast Guard said in a post on Twitter.

CWC Qualifiers: Netherlands stuns West Indies

With this thrilling win, the Netherlands carry two crucial points to the Super Six, while West Indies carry none to the next stage, making their chances of qualifying for the ODI World Cup in India extremely slim…reports Asian Lite News

Logan van Beek produced an astonishing display of his all-round show in the Super Over to help the Netherlands stun West Indies for a famous victory in their Group A match of Men’s ODI World Cup Qualifiers at the Takashinga Sports Club, here on Monday.

After a tied match where both teams made 374 in their respective 50 overs, van Beek hit 30 runs off six balls allotted to the Netherlands, hitting an astonishing three fours and as many sixes off Jason Holder, setting a new record for most runs hit in a Super Over of ODIs.

He then returned with the ball to take out Johnson Charles and Holder while conceding eight runs to pull off a heist for the Netherlands.

With this thrilling win, the Netherlands carry two crucial points to the Super Six, while West Indies carry none to the next stage, making their chances of qualifying for the ODI World Cup in India extremely slim.

Van Beek pulled off a class display with the willow against Holder, following up his 28 off 14 at the end of the Dutch batting innings with 30 off six balls in the Super Over. Nicholas Pooran wasn’t allowed to participate in the Super Over because of his absence from the field for an extended period of time, as West Indies eventually ended up on the losing side.

In the Netherlands chase of 375, Vikramjit Singh and Max O’Dowd added 76 runs for the first wicket within the first 11 overs. But a mistimed reverse sweep from O’Dowd ended up in the hands of the short third man in the 11th over.

In his very next over, Chase also accounted for Singh, who went for a massive heave but ended up placing the ball into the hands of Pooran at deep mid-wicket. Wesley Barresi and Bas de Leede stitched a 38-run stand to stabilise the Dutch innings.

But Barresi eventually fell in the 22nd over, while trying to nudge an Akeal Hosein delivery behind the wicket, as the asking rate soared to over nine runs an over. After losing de Leede (33) in the 30th over, Teja Nidamanuru and Scott Edwards joined forces to give the innings a much-needed boost.

At the back of attacking shots from the duo, Netherlands picked up the scoring rate, and made the most of overs 31-40, making 88 runs. Nidamanuru unleashed a fine set of shots in the upcoming overs to take the lead in run-scoring, as Edwards became second fiddle.

Nidamanuru brought up his century off three consecutive fours, his century coming off just 68 balls. Just when it seemed like the scales were shifting in favour of the Dutch, Edwards gave a catch straight back to Chase in the 45th over, falling for 67 off 47 balls and ending a crucial 143-run stand off just 90 balls.

Holder produced another twist in the 46th over as Saqib Zulfiqar and Nidamanuru (111 off 76 balls) fell in quick succession. The game saw another turn with the eighth-wicket stand of 39 runs off 18 balls between Aryan Dutt and van Beek.

Twenty one of those runs came in the 49th over delivered by Chase, to bring the equation down to nine runs off the last over. Netherlands got off to a flyer as a four flew off the bat of van Beek.

But Alzarri Joseph struck back, giving only two runs off the next three balls while also taking the wicket of Dutt. Van Beek had taken two off the second last ball and only one needed to win, the Dutch batter failed to clear the in-field and was caught by Holder. After Netherlands innings ended at 374/9, van Beek would get another chance via Super Over to take Netherlands over the line.

During the West Indies innings, an imperious 104 not out off 65 balls from Pooran, along with crucial knocks from Brandon King (74), Charles (54), Hope (47) and Keemo Paul (46 not out) helped the two-time World Cup champions post 374/6.

King and Charles unleashed 13 boundaries in the first powerplay, as the Dutch bowlers struggled with their lines and lengths. The duo added 101 runs for the first wicket before Charles was trapped lbw by Vivian Kingma. However, King kept going from the other end and got decent support from Shamarh Brooks, bringing up his fifty in the 22nd over.

West Indies were rocked by twin strikes from Zulfiqar in the 27th and 29th overs, losing King and Brooks. Hope and Pooran gently guided West Indies through this period, raising the century of their partnership off just 73 balls.

Though de Leede and van Beek collectively made three quick strikes in the space of 15 balls, Pooran managed to take West Indies past 350. Keemo Paul too played his role with a lively 46 from 25, as Pooran scored his third ODI hundred, reaching his century in 63 balls, the third-fastest effort for West Indies in ODIs.

Brief Scores: Netherlands 374/9 in 50 overs (Teja Nidamanuru 111, Scott Edwards 67, Roston Chase 3/77) tied with West Indies 374/6 in 50 overs (Nicholas Pooran 104 not out, Brandon King 76, Saqib Zulfiqar 2/43). Netherlands won the Super Over

The Consul General of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Bengaluru, Ewout de Wit, met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and held discussions today, the chief minister’s office said in a statement.
