The film, which has cinematography by Abhinandhan Ramanujam and music by Jakes Bejoy, was supposed to originally release on June 30.

Taking to Instagram, actor Prithviraj, who is on a whirlwind tour to different cities to promote his film, made the announcement.

He wrote, “Bigger the dreams, larger the obstacles. Stronger the enemies, harder the fight! ‘Kaduva’ release has been postponed by one week to 07/07/2022 due to unforeseen circumstances.

“We will continue with all promotional activities as scheduled and keep faith in all your love and support for this mass action entertainer. We deeply apologise to all the fans, distributors, and theatre owners across the world.”

‘Kaduva’ to bring back mass action entertainer genre

It is actually also a short form of the hero’s name in the film, Prithviraj disclosed while replying to a question that was posed to him after the launch…reports Asian Lite News

Stating that he was immensely proud of the content being generated by Malayalam cinema, actor Prithviraj on Monday said that the only genre that the industry had slightly forgotten was the mass action entertainer genre and that his upcoming film ‘Kaduva’ was a step in that direction.

Speaking at the launch of the film’s teaser in Chennai, which was attended by the entire cast of ‘Kaduva’ and a host of celebrities including Tamil actors Arya and Jiiva, Prithviraj said, “We have to have all kinds of films. Right now, the Malayalam industry is making superb films. We are going through a phase where we are making superb content but we’ve missed out one genre. I, as a film lover, miss the mass masala commercial entertainers in Malayalam. So, when they narrated this script to me in 2017, I felt it had been a long time since such films had come out in Malayalam.

“Let me make it clear, the multi-city promotions that we have embarked on is not only for ‘Kaduva’. This is the first step of a big process. I am someone who wishes that from now on, all big Malayalam films that are to be released are released in this fashion. We have to come and communicate with our audience in every state on a first person basis. I hope and pray that we will be able to sustain this process for all big releases coming from Kerala.”

The title of the film, which features Prithviraj and Samyuktha Menon in the lead and Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi playing a pivotal role, means Tiger in Malayalam. It is actually also a short form of the hero’s name in the film, Prithviraj disclosed while replying to a question that was posed to him after the launch.

Akshay Kumar’s ‘Prithviraj’ release postponed

The surge in cases has resulted in strict regulations across India and some markets like New Delhi also decided to shut theatres…reports Asian Lite News

Akshay Kumar’s next ‘Prithviraj’ that was scheduled to release on January 21 has been postponed due to Omicron and the steep rise in Covid cases in India.

A source said: “When you have a sureshot blockbuster at hand that will appeal to audiences across the country, you can’t gamble with such a huge product. ‘Prithviraj’ will massively aid in bringing people back to the theaters and it can’t be released at a time when it won’t fulfill this purpose. Business wise too it doesn’t make sense to compromise a film that will rake in the moolah at the box-office.

“It’s a no-brainer to postpone the film and gauge Omicron and the Covid-19 scenario before taking a call on the next release date of the film.”

The surge in cases has resulted in strict regulations across India and some markets like New Delhi also decided to shut theatres.

“YRF was waiting till the last minute to see if the situation in India and overseas improves but the pace with which coronavirus cases are accelerating, it forced their hand to hold on to the biggest title.”

The source added: “Everyone is looking at ‘Prithviraj’ to take the box-office by storm and set some new milestones in the post-pandemic era and YRF is committed to this belief. They will put this project out when it can set the box-office on fire.”

‘Prithviraj’, directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, will also mark the debut of former Miss World Manushi Chhillar.

MODHERA TEMPLE ROW: Rajputs Turn Heat on Gujarat Govt

Earlier, the Gujjars had declared erstwhile emperor Prithviraj Chauhan as the hero from their lineage and had even warned that the film’s release will be stalled if he is referred to as Rajput in the movie…reports Archana Sharma

The controversy that started surrounding the upcoming Bollywood movie ‘Prithviraj’ starring Akshay Kumar refuses to die in Rajasthan.

Taking forward the row over the lineage and caste of Prithviraj Chauhan, Rajput leaders have now targeted the Gujarat government for giving credit to Gujjar leaders for building the Modhera Sun Temple, which as per them, was built by Rajput royals.

Earlier, the Gujjars had declared erstwhile emperor Prithviraj Chauhan as the hero from their lineage and had even warned that the film’s release will be stalled if he is referred to as Rajput in the movie.

Meanwhile, the Rajputs rejected the claims and declared that Gujjars are trying to twist history.

At a press conference organised in Jaipur on Sunday, Mahavir Singh Sarwadi, the convener of Shri Pratap Foundation and the patron of Shri Kshatra Purusharth Foundation, said that a conspiracy is going on to declare national heroes like Mihirbhoj, Prithviraj Chauhan, Maharaja Anangpal etc. as Gujjars by connecting the Gurjar region with the Gujjar caste.

“The Gujarat government’s tourism department, which earlier said that the Modhera Temple was built by Solanki Rajputs two years ago, today tweets saying it was built by Gujjars and then deletes it.

“In Gujarat, the state government on its website has declared the state as the land of Gujjars and termed Kshatriya clans like Parmar, Pratihar, Solanki, Chauhan etc as Gujjars, whereas the fact is that even today the population of Gujjars in Gujarat is negligible and the Gujjar caste is not even mentioned among the notified castes. We have written a letter to the Chief Minister of Gujarat in this regard,” he added.

“Before Independence, the British tried to distort our history to prove their superiority and after Independence, the then political leadership also tried to distort our history. Myths were fabricated and they were proved and propagated with the help of power.

“The entire society has been suffering for decades. Over the years, this communal appeasement has turned into caste appeasement and our history is being targeted by the present political leadership to nurture it. Rajputs have made inconceivable sacrifices for this nation and since time immemorial, they have fought with the terrorists. History is our most valuable asset and every Rajput is susceptible to it. Those who encourage attempts to dispute the identities of our ancestors for their petty political ambitions, society considers this act as not only unfortunate, but a conspiracy against our society as a whole. We oppose every such conspiracy,” Sarwadi said.

Meanwhile, Mihir Army chief Himmat Singh Gurjar, replying to Sarwadi’s claims, said, “Whenever the society has been educated, it has seen its history getting rectified wherever it has gone wrong. This is also a reformation. Mihir Bhoj and Prithviraj Chauhan belonged to the Gujjar community. Rana Poonja was and will remain Bhil. People who came into existence after 13th century should not give history information.

The term Rajput, according to him, gained credence after the 13th century. Earlier, they were called as Kshatriyas, he said.

Prithviraj to direct Hindi web series on ‘Biscuit King’

Shedding light on the life of Rajan, Nina Pillai says, “Rajan always aimed for the stars and dreamt of heading the world’s largest food firm by 2020…reports Asian Lite News.

Yoodlee Films will be producing a Hindi web series, inspired by the story of India’s ‘Biscuit King’, Rajan Pillai.

The production house has acquired the rights for the yet-to-be-titled series for which actor-director-producer Prithviraj Sukumaran will be taking the director’s chair and will also essay the lead character based on Rajan.

Talking about the project, Prithviraj says, “The existence of light and darkness in human lives has always engaged me as an actor and director and this story has it all: ambition, success, a jet setting lifestyle and then a hubris-induced fall that took a man from the zenith of corporate power to the depravity of a prison cell. All this at the age 47”.

He adds, “Even though he passed away in 1995, his story serves as a relevant example of how the effects of success and power blur the line of morality, to this generation. It will be very interesting to discover what made this charismatic personality tick and to relive his intriguing, complex life”.

Vikram Mehra, MD, Saregama opines, “The story of Rajan Pillai serves as a cautionary tale to the times we live in and is a compelling story that must be told. This project is a proud addition to our diverse portfolio of Yoodlee Films – which ranges from Hindi cinema to regional cinema to now web series. I am especially grateful that Nina Pillai – Rajan’s wife – has trusted us with this project, and that we have the magnificent talent of Prithviraj Sukumaran headlining the project”.

Shedding light on the life of Rajan, Nina Pillai says, “Rajan always aimed for the stars and dreamt of heading the world’s largest food firm by 2020. However, the systemic flaws in India’s justice system and manipulative enemies tragically cut short his life – a wound that his family and I grapple with even today. It’s easy to see his rise and fall in absolutes but there was more to the man.”

“This is an important story which needs to be told and placed before the people’s court. I am happy that Yoodlee Films is taking the mantle to humanise the story of Rajan and share it with its varied multicultural audience. And I am especially excited that someone of the calibre of Prithviraj Sukumaran is spearheading this project. I feel he has just the right artistic sensitivity to bring Rajan’s life amongst the masses”, she concludes.

The untitled web series is currently in pre-production and will go on floors in mid-2022.

Prithvi reveals ‘Bro Daddy’ suspense

Prithviraj made his Bollywood debut with 2012 film “Aiyaa” alongside Rani Mukerji, and was later seen in films such as “Aurangzeb” (2013) and “Naam Shabana” (2017). However, his presence in Bollywood has been rare ever since…writes Yashika Mathur.

Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran acknowledges the industry has been missing “happy films”, and the reason is the contained environment under which everyone has been living over the last one and a half year.

“I think the primary reason for that is all the filmmakers, actors and producers — all of us — were forced to start thinking about contained films. Films that could pull off under these circumstances,” shares the actor, as he opens up in a conversation.

“More often than not, when you start thinking on these lines, the genre that you start deviating towards is either a thriller, a dark satire happening in real space, like ‘Joji’. As is the usual practice when you start thinking about happy films — films that have a lot of actors, laughter, joy, comedy and music — you start thinking that this is big and the film has many locations, people, and places. So, you don’t usually think on those lines, when you think what kind of a film you can pull off under the given circumstances (of the pandemic and lockdown),” he says.

The actor made his directorial debut in 2019 with the film “Lucifer”, and is now all set to wield the megaphone again in the recently announced “Bro Daddy”. Besides him, the film will also be headlined by superstar Mohanlal. Prithviraj calls it a happy film that has badly been missing in Malayalam cinema lately.

“I was supposed to come with my next directorial long back, which was supposed to be a sequel to ‘Lucifer’. It was a much bigger film. If things would have been as we wished, then it would have been shot this year, but due to obvious reasons we couldn’t start. To me, it seems we are badly missing a happy film in Malayalam cinema over the past one and half year. All of the content we see in Kerala is dark. It’s either a murder mystery or a dark satire or an investigative thriller,” he says.

“I thought we were all badly missing a happy film, which is when these two writers came and narrated the script to me. I found it to be interesting, hilarious and more than anything I found it to be a really enjoyable, light watch. I casually narrated the idea to Mr Mohanlal over a zoom call and he said that we are doing this and the project took off,” recalls the actor-filmmaker.

Prithviraj made his Bollywood debut with 2012 film “Aiyaa” alongside Rani Mukerji, and was later seen in films such as “Aurangzeb” (2013) and “Naam Shabana” (2017). However, his presence in Bollywood has been rare ever since.

“I have heard a few scripts in between but the fact of the matter is that Malayalam cinema is going through such a high and all of us find such great content here in Malayalam, it would require something really good to come and invest that kind of a time in a Hindi film, though I look forward to it. I hope something good enough finds its way to me,” he says.

Right now, Prithviraj is gearing up for his next film, the dark mystery thriller “The Cold Case”. He shares that shooting for the Malayalam film was a new experience for him.

“This is going to be one or the first films I shot with post-pandemic regulations. We were not used to social distancing on the set, being masked all the time. This film was shot strictly keeping all precautions in mind. Most of us would remember shooting ‘The Cold Case’ because all of us were coming together for the first time post the pandemic,” he says of shooting the film, which will soon stream on Amazon Prime Video.
