French Army to participate in R-Day celebration

Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, an officer in the French Foreign Legion, Captain Loic Alexandre, expressed his honour and pride in being here in India for Republic Day celebrations

“We are very honoured to be here in India. The French army has been invited and we saw the Indian army in Paris, France, last year. So they proved that they are part of a great army and that’s why we are very proud to be here with them,” he said.

He further thanked all the services who welcomed them and emphasised that it is a great moment for them.

“We are very well welcomed. So I would like to thank all the services that are working to welcome us and yes, it’s a very great moment for us,” he added.

Alexandre highlighted that there will be 130 people, marching on Kartavya Path on Republic Day.

“For this very special occasion, Republic Day in India, we are 130 people who are marching on Kartavya Path…There is the music band on the French… and then infantry regiment, the second foreign infantry regiment that’s based in the south of France, he said.

He further added that there will be three planes that will fly, adding that two Rafaels and one tanker aircraft will be there.

Moreover, according to Alexandre, there will be one woman in the aircraft in the Airbus and then the Colonel who commands the French contingent for the occasion…”She’s a pilot in the French Air Force,” he said.

Further highlighting the India-France relationship, he said that the Indian Army is a partner of the French Army as both countries have been conducting a lot of joint exercises.

“The Indian Army is a partner of the French Army because we do a lot of exercises together each year. The last one with the Air Force was Garuda. It’s a long collaboration and that’s why it’s important for us to be here,” he said.

Meanwhile, Captain Louis, who will be leading the French contingent, said that the partnerships concerning India and France can be strengthened, as it happened last year when the Indian detachment participated in the Bastille day.

“I would say the partnerships concerning our two countries can be strengthened, as we did last year when the Indian detachment came for Bastille Day,” he said.

Louis further expressed pleasure in being here in India for Republic Day.

“We have been very well welcomed and it’s a pleasure and an honour to be here for a few days in India to discover your country, but also the army. And we have already done two trainings. So now we should be ready for D Day and Republic Day,” he added.

He further emphasised that their participation in Republic Day will boost India-France relations.

“And now we come back so the path is to strengthen day by day our relationships and, concerning our army, why not with materials and also during exercises or training fields?”, he stated.

Louis also highlighted that women will also be participating in the French Army.

“We also have women in our army. And for Republic Day, there will be a Lieutenant Colonel from the French Air Force that will be there,” he added.

Moreover, French Corporal Sujan, who has been serving in the French Poland legion for seven years, extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Indian government, as they made it possible for them to come to India and present something beautiful on such an important day. (ANI)

Full Dress Rehearsal for R-Day Parade held

A full dress rehearsal of the 75th Republic Day parade was held on Tuesday at Kartavya Path here. Marching contingents of the Army, Navy and Air Force took part in the rehearsal. The IAF’s fighter jets also participated in the rehearsal as did DRDO’s Mission Shakti, missile, radar, rocket launcher.

According to the Ministry of Defence, a total of 46 lAF aircraft comprising 29 fighter aircraft, seven transport aircraft, nine helicopters and one heritage aircraft will participate in this year’s Republic Day flypast. All these aircraft will operate from six different bases. The aircraft were part of the full dress rehearsal too.

A total of 25 tableaux — 16 States and union territories and nine Central Ministries will roll down on Kartavya Path during the Republic Day parade. The tableaux also took part in the full dress rehearsal, the official added.

The Defence Ministry informed that Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Manipur, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Ladakh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana’s tableaux will participate in the Republic Day.

Like each year, the tableaux have been selected by an expert committee comprising eminent persons in the fields of art, culture, painting, sculpture, music, architecture, choreography, etc., the official said. The Nation is celebrating 75th year of its Republic this year, and the Ministry of Defence will release a Commemorative Coin and Commemorative Stamp during the celebrations.

According to the Indian Air Force, Rafel, Sukhoi, Jaguar, C-295, C-17, LCH Prachand helicopter and Mig-29 aircraft are the part of flypast during the Republic Day. Four Tejas aircraft will also debut in the Republic Day Parade. IAF aircraft also participated in the full day rehearsal. The Indian Air Force informed that four aircraft from the Indian Army and one from the Indian Navy will also fly in two separate formations with the IAF aircraft.

Delhi police takes stock of security arrangements ahead of R-Day

Delhi Eastern Range’s Additional CP Sagar Singh Kalsi on late Saturday took stock of security arrangements in several areas of Shahdara District ahead of Republic Day on January 26.

He was also accompanied during his visit by senior police officers.

Speaking to ANI, Sagar Singh Kalsi said, “In view of Republic Day, we are making several arrangements. Our only motive is to organise a smooth celebration… Security checks are also underway at all the borders…”

Meanwhile, given Republic Day celebrations, no flights will arrive or depart from Delhi Airport between 10:20 am and 12:45 pm from January 19 to January 26, according to an official statement from Delhi International Airport Limited issued on Saturday.

Ahead of Republic Day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended the Republic Day parade camp organised by the National Cadet Corps in the national capital on Saturday.

The country observes Republic Day on January 26 every year.

French President Emmanuel Macron will be the chief guest on January 26 this year at the invitation of PM Modi. It will be the sixth occasion when a French leader will be the chief guest at Republic Day celebrations.

In a first, the Border Security Force’s (BSF) all-women marching and brass band contingents will participate in this year’s Republic Day parade on Kartavya Path.

An Assistant Commandant rank woman officer and two subordinate officers will lead a total of 144 women BSF constables marching down Kartavya Path on January 26 when India will be celebrating its 75th Republic Day in the presence of Emmanuel Macron.

The Delhi Police on Friday prohibited flying of sub-conventional aerial platforms, including paragliders, paramotors, hang gliders, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) in the national capital.

The prohibition has been implemented for 29 days–from January 18 to February 15–unless withdrawn earlier. (ANI)

Indian diaspora holds celebration to mark R-Day

Indians in the UK celebrated the Republic Day in Slough on Tuesday evening with flag hosting, speeches and cultural performances with the Mayor of Slough, UK MP Lord Rami Ranger and MP Virendra Sharma attending the celebrations.

Harish Kumar—Second secretary from Indian High Commission, London; Dilbagh Singh Parmar, the councillor of Slough; the Mayoress of Slough and many British Indians attended the event at the Slough Hindu temple. The event ended with an evening aarti and dinner.

Parmar spoke about the importance of Republic Day for the Indian diaspora and said that such celebrations keep Indian culture alive in the UK.

Going back into the history of the sub-continent, Lord Ranger said that after the Partition in 1947, two nations were created–one based on religion (Pakistan) and the other one irrespective of religion (India). Applauding India for its progress, Lord Ranger said that India is now exporting top engineers, doctors, nurses, architects, lawyers, to the world and has even given the UK a Prime Minister.

Appreciating India’s rich culture and heritage, Lord Ranger said that people of Indian origin are running a large number of blue-chip companies across the world.

Indian-origin MP from the House of Commons, Virendra Sharma exhorted the British diaspora to come forward and join British politics, emphasising that the young generation can choose any party they like. He said that the Indian diaspora must be active in UK politics and promised to mentor and guide members of the diaspora interested in joining British politics.

The event was organised by charity organisation, IDUK Group (Indian Diaspora in the UK) which aims to bring the Indians together and strengthen their links with the rich Indian culture and heritage.

The event was attended by a number of children in their traditional ethnic wear.

R-Day parade showcases military prowess

The Republic Day celebration witnessed the country’s military prowess, cultural diversity, and many other unique initiatives. Building on last year’s celebrations, in the 75th year of Independence, celebrated as ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the celebrations witnessd zeal, enthusiasm, patriotic fervour and ‘Jan Bhagidari’, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

President Droupadi Murmu led the nation in celebrating the 74th Republic Day from Kartavya Path in New Delhi on January 26, 2023. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was the Chief Guest at the parade.

The week-long celebrations commenced on 23rd January, the birth anniversary of great freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. To mark the occasion, a one-of-a-kind Military Tattoo and Tribal Dance Festival ‘Aadi Shaurya – Parv Parakram ka’ was organised in New Delhi on 23rd& 24th January. The events will culminate on 30th January, which is observed as Martyrs’ Day.

The Parade

The Republic Day parade, which began at around 1030 hrs, was a unique mix of the country’s military prowess and cultural diversity, depicting the country’s growing indigenous capabilities, Nari Shakti and emergence of a ‘New India’.

The parade ceremony commences with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi visiting the National War Memorial. He led the nation in paying solemn tributes to the fallen heroes by laying a wreath. Thereafter, the Prime Minister and other dignitaries headed to the saluting dais at Kartavya Path and witnessed the parade.

As per tradition, the National Flag was unfurled followed by the National Anthem with a booming 21-gun salute. Amongst the many firsts, the 21-gun salute was given with 105-mm Indian Field Guns. It replaces the vintage 25 pounder gun, reflecting upon the growing ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in defence. Four Mi-17 1V/V5 helicopters of 105 Helicopter Unit showered flower petals on the audience present at Kartavya Path.

The parade commenced with the President taking the salute. The parade was commanded by Parade Commander, Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, a second-generation Army officer. Major General Bhavnish Kumar, Chief of Staff, HQ Delhi Area was the Parade Second-in-Command.

The proud winners of the highest gallantry awards followed. They included the winners of Param Vir Chakra and Ashok Chakra. Param Vir Chakra winners Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) Bana Singh, 8 JAK LI (Retd); Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) Yogendra Singh Yadav, 18 Grenadiers (Retd) & Subedar (Honorary Lieutenant) Sanjay Kumar, 13 JAK Rifles and Ashok Chakra winners Major General CA Pithawalla (Retd); Colonel D Sreeram Kumar and Lieutenant Colonel Jas Ram Singh (Retd) will follow the Deputy Parade Commander on Jeeps. The Param Vir Chakra is awarded for the most conspicuous act of bravery and self-sacrifice in the face of the enemy, while the Ashok Chakra is awarded for similar acts of valour and self-sacrifice but, other than, in the face of the enemy.

Indian Army Contingents

The first contingent in the uniform of the 61 Cavalry was led by Captain Raizada Shaurya Bali. The 61 Cavalry is the only serving active Horse Cavalry Regiment in the world, with the amalgamation of all the ‘State Horse Units’.

The Indian Army was represented by a Mounted Column of 61 Cavalry, nine Mechanised Columns, six marching contingents and a fly past by Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) of Army Aviation Corps. Main Battle Tank ARJUN, NAG Missile System (NAMIS), Infantry Combat Vehicle of BMP-2 SARATH, Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicle, K-9 Vajra-tracked Self-Propelled Howitzer Gun, BrahMos missile, 10m Short Span Bridge, Mobile Microwave Node & Mobile Network Centre and AKASH (New Generation Equipment) were the main attractions in the mechanised columns.

A total of six marching contingents of the Army, including Mechanised Infantry Regiment, Punjab Regiment, Maratha Light Infantry Regiment, Dogra Regiment, Bihar Regiment and Gorkha Brigade marched past the saluting dais.

Veterans’ Tableau

Another highlight of the parade was the Veterans’ Tableau, with the theme ‘Towards India’s Amrit Kaal with Resolve – A Veterans’ Commitment’. It provided a glimpse of veterans’ contributions in the last 75 years and their initiatives in shaping India’s future during ‘Amrit Kaal’.

Indian Navy Contingent

The Indian Navy contingent comprised 144 young sailors, led by Lt Cdr Disha Amrith as Contingent Commander. For the first time ever, the marching contingent consisted of three women and six Agniveers. It was followed by the Naval Tableau, designed on the theme ‘Indian Navy – Combat Ready, Credible, Cohesive and Future Proof’. It showcased the multi-dimensional capabilities of the Indian Navy, Nari Shakti and key indigenously designed and built assets under ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.

Indian Air Force Contingent

The Indian Air Force contingent comprised 144 air warriors and four officers, led by Sqn Ldr Sindhu Reddy. The Air Force tableau, designed on the theme ‘Indian Air Force Power Beyond Boundaries’, displayed a rotating globe highlighting IAF’s expanded reach, whereby it has been able to provide humanitarian assistance across borders, as also exercises conducted with friendly countries. It also showcased Light Combat Aircraft Tejas MK-II, Light Combat Helicopter ‘Prachand’, Airborne Early Warning & Control aircraft NETRA and C-295 Transport aircraft. The tableau will also display a team of GARUDs in combat gear with laser designation equipment and specialist weapons.

‘India among fastest growing economies’

As India celebrates 74th Republic Day President Droupadi Murmu in her first Republic Day-eve speech said on Wednesday that India has been among the fastest-growing major economies because of the timely and proactive interventions of the government.

Stating that India has became the fifth largest economy in the world, the President said, “This has been achieved against a global backdrop of economic uncertainty. With the help of able leadership and effective struggle, we soon came out of the recession, and resumed our journey of development.”

“India has been among the fastest-growing major economies because of the timely and proactive interventions of the government. The ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, in particular, has evoked great response among the people at large,” Murmu said.

The President also talked about the challenges faced during the early years of Independence.

“In the early years of Independence, we faced countless challenges and adversities. Very high levels of poverty and illiteracy were just two of the many ill-effects of the long foreign rule. Yet, the spirit of India was undeterred. With hope and confidence, we began an experiment unique in the history of humankind.”

Murmu said that those who shaped modern Indian mind also welcomed progressive ideas from abroad, following the vedic advice “Aano bhadra krtavo yantu vishwatah (Let noble thoughts come to us from all directions).

The President said, “From the day the Constitution came into effect to the present day, it has been an amazing journey that has inspired many other nations. Every citizen has reason to be proud of the India Story.”

Talking about challenges that need to be addressed urgently, the President said, “In my view, global warming and climate change are challenges that need to be addressed urgently. Global temperatures are rising and extreme forms of climate change are visible.”

The President also praised the role of farmers, labourers, scientists and engineers, saying, “I appreciate the roles of farmers, labourers, scientists and engineers whose collective strength enables our country to move forward in the spirit of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan’.”

Speaking on the essence of India, the President said, “We are all one, and we are all Indians. So many creeds and so many languages have not divided us, but united us. That’s why we have succeeded as a democratic republic. This is the essence of India.”

Maa Tujhe Pranaam: IIW celebrates India’s Republic Day

As India was sleeping after a great celebration of the 73rd Republic Day marked by a historic flag hoisting atop Lal Chowk at Srinagar, the Indian diaspora in England began their evening of celebrations, past midnight IST.

As the Iron man Sardar Patel said once, “Every Indian should now forget that he is a Rajput, a Sikh or a Jat. He must remember that he is an Indian.” IIW also celebrated Indian Republic Day 2022 bringing almost 40 kids and nearly 33 performances infusing the patriotic fervour in the atmosphere in the British land.

The remarkable event was hosted by the fascinating Team of IIW [Inspiring Indian Women], online on two days: 26th Jan 2022, 7.00 pm GMT, and 29th Jan, 4.00 pm GMT. A number of cultural performances of dance and songs marked the gaiety and splendour of the Show aptly titled as – ‘Maa Tujhe Pranaam ‘!

Padmashri Bob Blackman, Honourable Member of the British Parliament was the Chief Guest on 26th. He recalled the yeoman services of the Indian community in the United Kingdom across all walks of life and wished everyone a healthy passage through the pandemic period. Lord Meghnad Desai was the Chief Guest on 29th January. He spoke about the supreme sacrifices made by Kasturba Gandhi.

Guest of Honour, Party Venkataramana, noted international Lawyer, award-winning Poet – Philanthropist who famously won many court-battles to safeguard the national wealth and treasures of India gracefully recited a patriotic song in Hindi and pointed out that variety, not diversity, formed the secret of India which is an ancient civilization with sacred principles of Santana Dharma forming the core of the Constitution which was adopted on this day in 1950.

Guest of Honour, Mr Sanjay Kumar Second Secretary Coordination High Commission of India UK graced the occasion on both days.

IIW acknowledged many individuals who gave their time to spread love for Bharat Mata. The programme on 26th started with National Anthem sung by 3 years old Riyaanshi.

Under #azaadikaamritmahotsav, IIW continued its celebrations by getting ladies especially led by Nivedita Singh, Cllr Pushpa Makwana, Divya Chari and Ruchita Brahmkshatriya to make huge Rangoli in various places like Croydon, Mahalakshmi Temple ( East London) and the Highlight being massive Rangoli at Trafalgar Square.

Nearly seventeen ladies sent Republic Day messages from IIW which were later tweeted by the High Commission of India in the UK. As the Azaadi Mahotsav continues giving a great sense of pride and value to the sacrifices made for this freedom, the famous poem by our beloved Shri Rabindra Nath Tagore rings in our ears,

“Where the mind is without fear

and the head is held high,

where knowledge is free.

Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls.

Bristol celebrates India’s Republic Day

The Indian National Flag was solemnly hoisted at the Bristol City Council Hall (College Green) on 26th of January 2022 as part of Indian Republic Day celebrations by the Rt Hon Lord Mayor of Bristol, Cllr Steve Smith, joined by Cllr Tom Aditya (the Mayor of Bradley Stoke, Bristol and Chairman of the Bristol Multi-Faith Forum).

Bristol City Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities Cllr Ellie King, International Affairs Officer Ms Deborah Kinghorn and few representatives from the Indian community and the Bristol Multi-Faith Forum participated in the Flag Hoisting ceremony and greeted the small gathering.

The Indian National Anthem was sung. Lord Mayor addressed the gathering and explained that Indian Community in Bristol is an integral part of the city. Cllr Tom Aditya, in his speech, pointed out the significance of the Republic Day celebrations, and highlighted the Indian constitutional spirit and ethos. He saluted all the freedom fighters, constituent assembly members and all those who served and serve India.

He recalled the 1929 Purna Swaraj Declaration and the Independence Day commemorations in India that happened earlier from 1930 to 1947 on 26th January. He concluded this speech quoting the words of Nethaji Subhash Chandra Bose ‘Jai Hind’ and Vante Mataram.

Small refreshments were arranged after the ceremony at the City Hall.

Indian Embassy in Kuwait marks 73rd Republic Day

The embassy of India in Kuwait celebrated the 73rd Republic Day of India on Wednesday, 26th January 2022.  Keeping in view the prevailing circumstances on account of the COVID-19 pandemic, the celebrations were held in consonance with the COVID-19 health and safety guidelines issued by the Government of the State of Kuwait. The official programme was held from 0900 hrs at the Embassy of India premises. Ambassador Shri Sibi George paid floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi followed by unfurling of the National Tricolour and singing of the Indian National Anthem and patriotic songs.

On the occasion, Hon’ble President of India’s Address to the Nation was read out by the Ambassador who also addressed the participants, including the ones who joined the event on the virtual platform. Ambassador said that this year’s Republic Day is of special significance as it comes during the 75th anniversary of India’s independence which is celebrated as Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. He said that for every Indian it is an occasion to remember and pay home to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives to win India’s freedom. He recalled that the Constitution of India is not just a basic law of the land, but it also serves as a scripture for the social and economic transformation of India.

And today after seven decades India not only continues to be a thriving democratic country but also the fastest-growing major economy in the world. Ambassador highlighted the efforts of the Embassy to work with the community in promoting India-Kuwait relations and addressing the issues of concern to the community.  He thanked the community associations and groups in Kuwait for joining hands with the Embassy in supporting the community to face the challenges posed by Covid 19 pandemic.

Highlighting that the fight against Covid 19 pandemic is far from over, Ambassador urged the community to work together with the Embassy to ensure the welfare of the Indians in Kuwait and to help them face the challenges of the new variant. Ambassador also thanked all Indian associations and groups in Kuwait for participating in various events organized by the Embassy to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Kuwait and also the 75th anniversary of India’s independence. BSF all-women biker team presents thrilling spectacle

During the Republic Day parade at Rajpath in New Delhi, the Border Security Force’s (BSF) Seema Bhawani Motorcycle team put up a stunning display, presenting a salutation to the President.

During the display, the team did a Border Women Salute under Command of Inspector Himanshu Sirohi. Under Command of Sub Inspector Sonia Banwari, Single Kneeling was performed, while Chair Riding was performed under command of constable Anima Kumar. Fish Riding was performed under the command of constable Pushpa with another rider.

Under the command of constable Rajwinder Kaur with another rider, the double back riding was performed, while the opposite direction side riding double was performed under the command of constable Anupam Kumari with one other rider.

Further, the group performed the ladder formation under the command of constable Sangeeta Kumari, and the five women balance was performed under the command of constable Sumita Sikdar with four other riders.

The group then showcased the crown position under the command of constable Anita Rana with six other riders and the bullfighting formation under the command of constable Tulsi Rana and constable Sushma with two other riders.

Abhinandan, Exercise Bar, Gulistan, Aerobic, and the Pyramid formations were also showcased.

Special arrangements have been made keeping in view the current COVID-19 situation. The number of seats for spectators has been significantly reduced and people are being encouraged to register online to witness the live celebrations.

According to the Ministry of Defence, for the first time, an Indian Air Force (IAF) will show grand flypast by 75 aircraft or helicopters.

It has been decided that the Republic Day celebrations will now be week-long from January 23-30 every year. The celebrations will commence on January 23, the birth anniversary of great freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and culminate on January, 30 which is observed as Martyrs’ Day.
