Trudeau sees ‘opportunity’ in India ties

Later, Modi posted an image on social media of the two leaders shaking hands, with a one-liner saying “met Canadian PM Justin Trudeau at the G7 Summit”…reports Asian Lite News

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said he sees an “opportunity” to engage with the new Indian government, including on economic ties and national security, after his meeting with Narendra Modi at the G7 Summit in Italy.

Speaking to the Canadian media on Tuesday, Trudeau said one of the really good things about the G7 Summit is that “you get an opportunity to engage directly with a huge range of different leaders with whom there are various issues and certainly with India, there are massive people to people ties, they’re really important economic ties.”

“There’s alignment on a number of big issues that we need to work on as, as democracies as a global community. But now that he (Modi) is through his election, I think there is an opportunity for us to engage, including on some very serious issues around national security and keeping Canadians safe and the rule of law that we will be engaging,” the Canadian Prime Minister was quoted as saying by CBC News.

Modi and Justin Trudeau briefly interacted on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Apulia, Italy. This was their first face-to-face meeting after Trudeau alleged in September last year of “potential” involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a designated Sikh terrorist.

Later, Modi posted an image on social media of the two leaders shaking hands, with a one-liner saying “met Canadian PM Justin Trudeau at the G7 Summit”.

When asked if he has seen improvement in cooperation from India on the Canadian probe into the murder of Nijjar in Surrey in British Columbia, Trudeau said, “There is work ongoing very much.” India had strongly rejected Trudeau’s allegations from last year, calling them “absurd and motivated”.

In turn, New Delhi has accused Canada of giving space to pro-Khalistan elements operating from its soil with impunity. India has repeatedly conveyed its “deep concerns” to Canada and New Delhi expects Ottawa to take strong action against those elements.

Nijjar’s murder is being probed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Four Indian nationals have been arrested in this connection by the RCMP.

Sri Lanka slams Trudeau for ‘false narrative’ on LTTE conflict

Foreign Secretary Wijewardane requested Canada to engage with Sri Lanka in a “constructive manner” and facilitate dialogue and reconciliation….reports Asian Lite News

The Sri Lankan government has once again slammed Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for engaging in vote bank politics by consistently spreading “false narrative” about the ethnic conflict against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

In a meeting with the Canadian Deputy Minister for International Development Christopher MacLennan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs earlier this week, Lankan Foreign Secretary Aruni Wijewardane expressed the island nation’s deep concerns over the “high-level pronouncements” made in Canada “representing a false narrative of genocide” in connection with the conflict that took place in the country for over three decades till 2009.

Foreign Secretary Wijewardane requested Canada to engage with Sri Lanka in a “constructive manner” and facilitate dialogue and reconciliation.

“Foreign Secretary expressed Sri Lanka’s deep concern regarding high-level pronouncements made in Canada in recent years representing a false narrative of genocide in connection with the conflict that took place in Sri Lanka. The Foreign Secretary requested Canada to engage with Sri Lanka in a constructive manner and facilitate dialogue and reconciliation,” said the Lankan Foreign Ministry in a statement.

In response, the Canadian Deputy Minister appreciated Sri Lanka’s efforts at reconciliation and assured to convey Sri Lanka’s concerns to the relevant authorities in Canada.

High Commissioner of Canada Eric Walsh, officials of the Canadian High Commission and senior officials of the Foreign Ministry were also present at the meeting.

Trudeau designated May 18 as ‘Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day’, marking 15 years since the end of the bloody civil war in Sri Lanka.

“Two years ago, Canada’s Parliament unanimously voted to recognise May 18 as Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day. We will always advocate for justice and accountability for the crimes committed during the conflict, as well as for the hardships faced by all in Sri Lanka,” stated Canada’s PM.

Colombo immediately reacted to the allegations of “genocide” and accused the Canadian PM of engaging in “electoral vote bank politics”.

India has also levelled similar allegations against the Canadian PM as the country continues to give the political spotlight to Khalistani separatists.

Trudeau’s ‘Happy Navratri’ message amid row with India

India has outrightly rejected the claims, calling it ‘absurd’ and ‘motivated’…reports Asian Lite News

Softening his tone while asserting that his government was committed to building closer ties with India, after claiming that Indian agents were behind the killing of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Sunday extended his wishes to the Hindu community on the occasion of the Navratras.

PM Trudeau posted from his official handle, “Happy Navratri! I’m sending my warmest wishes to members of the Hindu community and all those who are celebrating this festival.”

An official press statement released by the Canadian PM said that over the next nine nights and 10 days, members of the Hindu community in Canada and around the world will gather to celebrate Navratri.

“Navratri is one of the most important and sacred festivals in the Hindu faith, commemorating the victory of the goddess Durga over the buffalo-headed demon Mahishasura and the triumph of good over evil. Often seen as a celebration of feminine energy, it is a time for friends and family to come together and honour century-old traditions with prayers, joyous performances, special meals, and fireworks,” the statement quoted the Canadian PM as saying further.

He also termed the festival as a chance to grab knowledge about the culture of Hindu communities and an occasion to recognise their contributions to Canada.

“For all Canadians, Navratri also offers an opportunity to learn more about the rich history and culture of Hindu communities and to recognize their invaluable contributions to Canada’s social, cultural, and economic fabric. Today’s celebrations remind us that diversity is one of Canada’s greatest strengths,” he said.

“On behalf of my family and the Government of Canada, I extend my best wishes to everyone celebrating Navratri this year,” the statement quoted him as saying further.

Earlier, expressing deep concerns over recent statements of designated terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun allegedly endorsing Hamas and issuing threats against Indian Consulates in G7 nations, including Canada, the Hindu community “implored” the Trudeau government to take immediate action against the Khalistani leader.

In an urgent email addressed to Canada’s Minister of Public Safety Dominic LeBlanc, the Hindu Forum of Canada (HFC) called for immediate action against Pannun.

“On October 21st, from G7 Nations, from Canada to Australia, Sikhs for Justice is going to shut down terror houses of India in Vancouver, Washington DC, London, Frankfurt, and Milan. The People of Palestine shut down the Indian terror house in Ramallah and removed Renu Yadav (India’s first woman envoy to Palestine),” Pannun said.

“Such statements must not be tolerated. We implore the government of Canada to take immediate action, as we are deeply concerned about the safety of our community. This kind of hateful video and speech is exacerbating hatred and violence,” the HFC said in a statement.

Earlier, addressing the Canadian Parliament, PM Trudeau claimed that his government had reasons to believe that Indian agents were involved in the killing of the Khalistani leader Nijjar.

India has outrightly rejected the claims, calling it ‘absurd’ and ‘motivated’.

“We have seen and reject the statement of the Canadian Prime Minister in their Parliament, as also the statement by their Foreign Minister. Allegations of Government of India’s involvement in any act of violence in Canada are absurd and motivated…We are a democratic polity with a strong commitment to rule of law,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

“Such unsubstantiated allegations seek to shift the focus from Khalistani terrorists and extremists, who have been provided shelter in Canada and continue to threaten India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The inaction of the Canadian Government on this matter has been a long-standing and continuing concern. That Canadian political figures have openly expressed sympathy for such elements remains a matter of deep concern. The space given in Canada to a range of illegal activities including murders, human trafficking and organised crime is not new. We reject any attempts to connect Government of India to such developments. We urge the Government of Canada to take prompt and effective legal action against all anti-India elements operating from their soil,” it added.

Nijjar, a designated terrorist in India, was killed outside a gurdwara in Canada’s Surrey on June 18.

Significantly, Canada is yet to provide any evidence to support its claim of an Indian hand in the killing of Hardeep Nijjar.

Signalling a further souring of bilateral ties, Ottawa and New Delhi announced tit-for-tat expulsions of diplomats in the wake of Trudeau’s allegation of Indian involvement in Nijjar’s killing.

India also suspended visa services for Canadian citizens amid the festering diplomatic fallout of Trudeau’s charge. (ANI)

Trudeau discusses India-Canada row with UAE President

UK PM Rishi Sunak called for de-escalation of the India-Canada row in a call with his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau…reports Asian Lite News

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Monday discussed the India-Canada row with the President of UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, stating that it is important to uphold and respect the “rule of law”.

The Canadian PM held a telephone conversation with the President of UAE and the two also spoke about the current situation in Israel. The two leaders expressed concern about the need to protect civilian life.

“On the phone today, His Highness @MohamedBinZayed and I spoke about the current situation in Israel. We expressed our deep concern and discussed the need to protect civilian life,” posted Trudeau on X.

“We also spoke about India and the importance of upholding – and respecting – the rule of law,” his post added.

On Sunday, UK PM Rishi Sunak called for de-escalation of the India-Canada row in a call with his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau.

According to a Downing Street statement, Sunak spoke to Trudeau on Friday evening during which he was updated on the situation relating to Canadian diplomats in India.

“He (Rishi Sunak) hoped to see a de-escalation in the situation and agreed to remain in contact with Prime Minister Trudeau on the next steps,” read the statement.

Sunak also reaffirmed the UK’s position that all countries should respect sovereignty and the rule of law, including the principles of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Meanwhile, Trudeau updated on the situation relating to Canadian diplomats in India.

The diplomatic ties between India and Canada deteriorated after the Canadian government expelled a senior Indian diplomat accusing India of playing a role in the assassination of a Khalistani separatist leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.

In the aftermath, India swiftly retaliated by issuing a statement that denied any involvement in the issue and expelled a senior Canadian diplomat.

Moreover, amid escalating tensions, India called for parity in the number of Canadian diplomats in India.

Responding to reports claiming that India has asked Canada to remove 41 of its 62 diplomats in the country, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi earlier this month said that Canadian diplomatic presence is much higher in India and they assume “there would be reduction”.

“On discussions on parity, given the much higher presence of diplomats or diplomatic presence here and their interference in our internal matters, we have sought parity in our respective diplomatic presence. Discussions are ongoing to achieve this. Given that Canadian diplomatic presence is higher, we would assume that there would be a reduction,” said MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi. (ANI)

Canada-India Tensions Flare Up Again, Thanks to Trudeau

His comment comes amid a raging diplomatic fracas with India following Canada’s allegation that Indian officials are involved in the murder of a Canadian citizen…reports Asian Lite News

In a fresh provocation, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau posted on X that he has discussed India “and the importance of upholding — and respecting — the rule of law” with Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed, the President of the United Arab Emirates.

In a post on Sunday, he said: “On the phone today, His Highness Mohammed Bin Zayed and I spoke about the current situation in Israel. We expressed our deep concern and discussed the need to protect civilian life. We also spoke about India and the importance of upholding — and respecting — the rule of law.”

His comment comes amid a raging diplomatic fracas with India following Canada’s allegation that Indian officials are involved in the murder of a Canadian citizen.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar, 45, was the chief of the banned Khalistan Tiger Force and one of India’s most-wanted terrorists. India has strongly refuted the allegations.

Trudeau puts India, Canada ties on thin ice

Amid the tensions between India and Canada, the security of the Canada High Commission in Delhi has been increased…reports Asian Lite News

After the recent “unfounded” accusations made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the relationship between India and Canada, two great democracies stand on thin ice, author Dr Jasneet Bhatti wrote in Khalsa Vox.

According to the author, the “abrupt declaration that India could have had a hand” in the killing of a Sikh extremist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, is not only “bewildering” but might also signify a “new low in the bilateral relations of these countries”.

At its core, this accusation seems to be rooted more in prejudice and less in fact. India’s outrage is hardly surprising for a nation that has always championed the fight against terrorism on a global stage.

For Canada, however, such a hasty judgment might prove costly. Instead of basing relationships on mutual respect and understanding, Canada’s unwarranted support for extremist groups, notably the Khalistan movement, poses a real threat to international collaboration.

To draw an analogy, Canada’s stance feels eerily similar to Pakistan’s known interference in India’s domestic matters. The consistent efforts to undermine and misrepresent India’s intentions have been a characteristic feature of Pakistan’s approach.

Security increased outside Canadian High Commission

Amid the tensions between India and Canada, the security of the Canada High Commission here was increased on Tuesday.

Several personnel of the Central Reserve Police and Delhi Police were deployed outside the Canadian High Commission.

This comes moments after India expelled a senior Canadian diplomat to India in a reciprocal move to Canada expelling a senior Indian diplomat.

Canadian High Commissioner to India, Cameron MacKay was summoned today to the South Block, the headquarters of the Ministry of External Affairs.

“The High Commissioner of Canada to India was summoned today and informed about the decision of the Government of India to expel a senior Canadian diplomat based in India,” a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs said today.

It added, “The concerned diplomat has been asked to leave India within the next five days. The decision reflects the Government of India’s growing concern at the interference of Canadian diplomats in our internal matters and their involvement in anti-India activities”.

Meanwhile, India rejected the “absurd and motivated” claims made by the Canadian Prime Minister about New Delhi playing a role in the June killing of a Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

“We have seen and rejected the statement of the Canadian Prime Minister in their Parliament, as also the statement by their Foreign Minister,” said the MEA in an official statement.

“Allegations of the Indian government’s “involvement in any act of violence in Canada are absurd and motivated” the statement said.

It added, “Similar allegations were made by the Canadian Prime Minister to our Prime Minister and were completely rejected”.

The statement said India is a democratic polity with a strong commitment to the rule of law.

“Such unsubstantiated allegations seek to shift the focus from Khalistani terrorists and extremists, who have been provided shelter in Canada and continue to threaten India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The inaction of the Canadian Government on this matter has been a long-standing and continuing concern,” the MEA statement said.

The release states that Canadian political figures have openly expressed sympathy for such elements and that remains a matter of deep concern.

“The space given in Canada to a range of illegal activities including murders, human trafficking and organised crime is not new” read the release.

World leaders “deeply concerned”

World leaders have expressed ‘deep concerns’ after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made allegations regarding the Indian government’s involvement in the fatal shooting of Khalistan Tiger Force chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.

The White House is “deeply concerned” about the accusations. “We remain in regular contact with our Canadian partners. It is critical that Canada’s investigation proceed and the perpetrators be brought to justice,” said a spokesman for the National Security Council, Adrienne Watson.

The claims have “deeply concerned” Australia as well, according to a spokesperson for Penny Wong, the foreign minister of Australia. “We are closely engaged with partners on developments. We have conveyed our concerns at senior levels to India,” a statement read.

“We understand these reports will be particularly concerning to some Australian communities. The Indian diaspora is a valued and important contributor to our vibrant and resilient multicultural society, where all Australians can peacefully and safely express their views.”

Tensions Soar as India-Canada Relations Strain Over Murder Accusations

Trudeau told the House of Commons that the “agents of the Indian government” carried out Nijjar’s killing…reports Asian Lite News

India’s relations with Canada nosedived on Tuesday when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused New Delhi of involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia’s Surrey in June.

Canada also expelled “a senior Indian diplomat” for India’s alleged involvement in the killing.

Nijjar, who was spearheading the Khalistani referendum in Canada, was gunned down by two persons on June 18 in the parking lot of Surrey’s Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara.

Trudeau told the House of Commons that the “agents of the Indian government” carried out Nijjar’s killing.

The Canadian Prime Minister, who was snubbed in India during his recent visit, said: “Canadian security agencies have been actively pursuing credible allegations of a potential link between agents of the Government of India and the killing of a Canadian citizen, Hardeep Singh Nijjar.”

Trudeau said: “Any involvement of a foreign government in the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil is an unacceptable violation of our sovereignty. It is contrary to the fundamental rules by which free, open, and democratic societies conduct themselves.

“As you would expect, we have been working closely and coordinating with our allies on this very serious matter.”

Trudeau said that he brought the issue to the notice of the Indian Prime Minister during his visit. “Canada declared its deep concerns to the top intelligence and security officials of the Indian government last week at the G20. I brought them personally and directly to Prime Minister Modi.”

He said because of Nijjar’s killing, Canadians are now “angry” and “perhaps frightened right now”. “Canada is a rule of law country. The protection of our citizens and defence of our sovereignty are fundamental.”

Expelling the senior Indian diplomat, Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly said: “My expectations are clear. I expect India to fully collaborate with us and get to the bottom of this.”

She said Canada has informed US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak about its decision.

Canada’s Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc, under whom the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is investigating the killing, said: “We’ll hold the perpetrators accountable and bring them to justice.”

Sikhs for Justice to Protest Outside Indian Consulates in Canada

The SFJ told the news channel that it will also be calling for the expulsion of Indian High Commissioner to Canada Sanjay Verma…reports Asian Lite News

Calling for a ‘shutdown’ of Indian consulates in Canada, a pro-Khalistani outfit has said it will hold peaceful protests beginning next week after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused New Delhi of involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Nijjar, who was spearheading the Khalistani referendum in Canada, was gunned down in the parking lot of Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey city of British Columbia after evening prayers on June 18 this year.

The Sikhs for Justice, which is outlawed in India, said protests are slated to take place outside Indian consulates in Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver on September 25, the Vancouver-based Global News reported.

“We will not allow the Indian consulates to function and we’re going to push the Canadian government to name the individuals who are responsible for assassinating and giving the orders to hit Nijjar,” Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, SFJ’s legal counsel, told Global News.

“He has been assassinated outside the gurdwara — that was being done to give a very strong message to pro-Khalistan Sikhs that they will be hunted, even in the Western world,” Pannun said.

The SFJ told the news channel that it will also be calling for the expulsion of Indian High Commissioner to Canada Sanjay Verma.

Canada on Monday expelled senior Indian diplomat Pavan Kumar Rai after Trudeau’s claims of “credible allegations of a potential link” between Indian government agents and the killing of Nijjar.

While foreign minister Melanie Joly didn’t name the diplomat, her office subsequently identified him as the RAW station chief in Canada.

Calling Trudeau’s revelation “unprecedented”, Jaskaran Sandhu, a board member with the World Sikh Organisation of Canada, was quoted as saying in Global News that he won’t be surprised if protests take place outside consulates before September 25 as well,

“People are livid right now. This is a news story that obviously has shaken the whole country. It’s also a news story that has shaken the community to a certain extent,” he said in an interview.

Trudeau, who was snubbed in India during his recent visit, said any involvement of a foreign government in the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil is an unacceptable violation of our sovereignty”.

Despite New Delhi registering strong protests, an anti-India campaign has continued in Canada with pro-Khalistani graffiti and posters targeting Indian diplomats and temples across the country.

Incidents of Khalistani elements protesting outside the Indian consulate in Toronto displaying “Kill India” posters, had led to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar saying that Canada was apparently allowing these protests driven by votebank politics.

Meanwhile, the second referendum to weigh support for Khalistan will be held in Canada on October 29.

It will also be asking voters now whether the Indian high commissioner was responsible for Nijjar’s death.

Trudeau’s Accusations Prompt Strong Response from India

The startling accusation was followed by the Canadian foreign minister Melanie Joly, who informed that they had expelled a top Indian diplomat over the incident…reports Asian Lite News

India on Tuesday rejected claims by the Canada government that it had an involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Terming them as “absurd and motivated” the external affairs ministry in a statement said, “We have seen and reject the statement of the Canadian Prime Minister in their Parliament, as also the statement by their Foreign Minister. Allegations of Government of India’s involvement in any act of violence in Canada are absurd and motivated.”

“Similar allegations were made by the Canadian Prime Minister to our Prime Minister, and were completely rejected,” the statement said further.

“We are a democratic polity with a strong commitment to rule of law,” the ministry said further.

“We urge the Government of Canada to take prompt and effective legal action against all anti-India elements operating from their soil,” the strongly worded statement added.

It went on to add, “The inaction of the Canadian Government on this matter has been a long-standing and continuing concern”.

India’s reaction came after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in an emergency statement made in Parliament,

said on Monday that Canadian security agencies have been actively pursuing credible allegations of a potential link between Indian government agents and the murder of Khalistan Tiger Force chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia in June.

The startling accusation was followed by the Canadian foreign minister Melanie Joly, who informed that they had expelled a top Indian diplomat over the incident.

She even said that she has conveyed her concerns to foreign Minister S. Jaishankar over the development.

The Indian external affairs ministry further said, “Such unsubstantiated allegations seek to shift the focus from Khalistani terrorists and extremists, who have been provided shelter in Canada and continue to threaten India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

The external affairs ministry statement further said, “That Canadian political figures have openly expressed sympathy for such elements remains a matter of deep concern. The space given in Canada to a range of illegal activities including murders, human trafficking and organised crime is not new. We reject any attempts to connect the Government of India to such developments”.

During his meeting with Trudeau on the sidelines of the G20 Summit earlier this month, PM Modi had conveyed India’s strong concerns about continuing anti-India activities by extremist elements in Canada.

PM Modi had told his Canadian counterpart that these elements are promoting secessionism and inciting violence against Indian diplomats and damaging diplomatic premises as well as threatening the Indian community there and also their places of worship.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau on the sidelines of the G20 Summit and discussed a range of issues on India-Canada ties across different sectors.  Taking to his social media ‘X’, PM Modi tweeted, “Met PM @JustinTrudeau on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. We discussed the full range of India-Canada ties across different sectors.”

Trudeau at the conclusion of the two-day G20 Leaders’ Summit emphasized that India is an important partner for Canada and we will continue to work towards it.

Prior to their discussion, the world leaders, including Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau paid a visit to Rajghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi on Sunday morning.  Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrived in India on Friday to attend the G20 Summit. The Canadian PM, accompanied by his son Xavier, was received by the Union Minister of State (MoS) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

The Canadian PM had recently called India a key partner in the promotion of shared values of democracy. “As the world’s largest democracy, India is – and will continue to be – a key partner for Canada in the promotion of our shared values of democracy, pluralism, and progress. We are committed to building on this rich history of collaboration, including under India’s presidency of the G20 this year,” Trudeau said in a statement.

Technical snag delays Trudeau’s departure

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s special plane, which he emplaned to return to his country after attending the G20 Summit, suffered a technical fault.

The sudden technical fault forced the PM and the entire delegation to wait till the engineering team allowed them to fly.

According to Airport sources in Delhi, “A special plane of Canada PM suffered a technical glitch and it’s not in the schedule to fly.”

Canadian PM Trudeau and his entire delegation attended the G20 summit in India and were all set to fly back to Canada after two-day visit but a technical glitch forced them to stay in Delhi.

Airport official told ANI that, “Canadian authority in the country is exploring alternate fly mode.”

“Upon our departure for the airport, we were made aware by the Canadian Armed Forces that CFC001 was experiencing technical issues,” the Prime Minister’s office also confirmed in a statement, according to CTV News.

“These issues are not fixable overnight, our delegation will be staying in India until alternate arrangements are made,” the statement added, according to Canada-based news.
