I did shopping and strolled in Ruwi, recalls Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi

Vivek Oberoi’s his first film “Company” in Hindi was with Mohanlal and after nearly two decades he debuted in a Malayalam film “Lucifer” with Lalettan, writes Vinod Raghavan

MUSCAT : Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, was moved by the young dance performers of Delicious Academy for Dance and The Kings United, which took him back to the memory lanes of his younger days as a child dancer who performed way back in the 80s in Muscat.

The “Company” actor, who was in Muscat as Chief Guest for the closing ceremony of the first ever European Union Film Festival, organized by the French Embassy in Oman in collaboration with the IFFO, minutely watched the steps on Bollywood numbers, reminded him his earlier days as a child dancer who performed on stage in the capital city of Oman.

Remembering the bygone era, “Saathiya” fame actor recalled that he first performed in the capital city of Oman and revealed, that, “I used to practice a lot and work very hard on stage and also used to assist my seniors at the backstage for which we used to get TA, DA for our performance, which I saved and used to go to Ruwi and do shopping.”

“I used to stroll in Ruwi and do small shoppings of buying chocolates and fancy items, (those days foreign made goods were in great demand back home), reveals the “Krrish” actor.

“The Shootout at Lokhandwala”, actor had special words for Omani singer, Jihad Al Raisi, and added, that nowadays, the word Jihad is wrongly interpreted, but here is the singer Jihad from Oman, who spreads love and brotherhood. He loved Oman and said Omanis are peace loving people and known for their hospitality.

In his recent south Indian Malayalam film “Lucifer” he played a villain’s character, was all praise for the veteran Malayalam actor Mohanlal, addressing him as Lalettan (Big Brother), he said, “coincidentally my debut film “Company” in Hindi was with with the great actor and now my first Malayalam film “Lucifer” is also with Lalettan.

The ardent devotee of “Lord Ayappa” took questions from the audience and replied elegantly. He also had kind words for the host of the evening Piya Pawani, who is a model and also acted in a South Indian Tamil film and short films viz. “The Broken Nest”, “Art That Hurts” amongst them in Oman.

Vivek Oberoi Reflects on Success, Failure, and Values in Bollywood

Speaking about being brought up by his actor-father Suresh Oberoi, who is also a recipient of the 1987 National Film Award, Vivek said that his parents raised him with the values of “never really getting out of line”…reports Asian Lite News

Actor Vivek Oberoi has talked about his struggles, his values and his views on what it means to succeed and fail in Bollywood.

Vivek, who made his debut in 2002 with Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Company’, became an instant hit with his powerful performances in films such as ‘Saathiya’, ‘Yuva’, ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’, ‘Omkara’ and ‘Rakht Charitra’ among many others. 

However, he tasted failure with duds such as ‘Prince’, ‘Dum’, ‘Kyun! Hogaya Na’, ‘Naksha’ and ‘Home Delivery: Aapko… Ghar Tak’ among many others. 

Recently, in an interview with Dubai-based podcast AB Talks, Vivek revealed that he had never really taken money from his father and actor Suresh Oberoi, and for his ‘launch’ into the industry he was determined to make his own way in. A snippet of the interview has been shared on Instagram.

“He had fixed up a producer and there was a script waiting and everything. And I said no, I just want your prayer and your blessings. You made it on your own talent without borrowing anything, and if I have it in me, I’d like to make my own way in,” the 46-year-old actor said.

He went on to speak about success and failure in a cut throat industry like Bollywood.

Vivek said: “When it comes to Bollywood, and not just Bollywood because I think you can apply it to anything. I have seen great heights of success and failures, and something my father told me was, your acting never fails, the attempt does not succeed.” 

“It does not succeed, then move on. The day you really fail as an actor is the day you stop moving on. You can’t live so much on your own success because it will make you complacent,” added the actor. 

Speaking about being brought up by his actor-father Suresh Oberoi, who is also a recipient of the 1987 National Film Award, Vivek said that his parents raised him with the values of “never really getting out of line”.

“As such we were very shielded from the glitz and glamour of Bollywood and lived a normal grounded life,” said the actor.

He added: “You know, you start getting out of line and that feeling of entitlement starts creeping up, my mother who was kind of short so we jokingly called her Hitler, she would whack us and never allow us to get out of line and treat people badly.”

Right before starting the interview, Vivek performed a prayer. 
On asking about the same, the actor replied: “In India there is this beautiful goddess Saraswati, who is the embodiment of everything related to art, culture, creativity, knowledge. She is the one who blesses us, you’ll even find her on the Indonesian currencies. 

“You will find her in all the universities of Indonesia and it is a Muslim country, so it is a concept that goes beyond religion.”

“So whenever I am doing anything, whether I am acting, or doing an interview, or a podcast like yours, or even a photoshoot, it is just a habit. Even when I go on a stage for an award show or a function, I will touch the stage out of respect and put it to my forehead. So similar thing with the camera, you know ‘I am here because of you’.”

Vivek Oberoi takes Covid jab

I would request everyone to not delay their safety and please get vaccinated (according to the age segregation). Let’s defeat the virus together!” Vivek wrote as caption with the video…reports Asian Lite News.

Bollywood stars are cautious about the virus spread as some of the stars recently tested positive for Covid 19 during their shooting and all. Actor Vivek Oberoi on Saturday took his first dose of Covid-19 prevention vaccine at a hospital in the city. The 44-year-old actor shared a video the vaccination and encouraged others to go for the vaccine.

“First dose of Covid-19 vaccine. A big thank you and my warmest appreciation to all the frontline workers, our #Warriors for taking up this entire process seamlessly with utmost care. I would request everyone to not delay their safety and please get vaccinated (according to the age segregation). Let’s defeat the virus together!” Vivek wrote as caption with the video.

Vivek will soon be seen in the horror thriller “Rosie: The Saffron Chapter”, which marks the screen debut of TV star Shweta Tiwari’s daughter Palak Tiwari. The film directed by Vishal Ranjan Mishra is said to be based on the real incident of the sudden disappearance of a woman named Rosie from Gurugram, who was an employee at a BPO company.
