‘Run for G-20 Walkathon’ organised in 4 UP cities

India is holding large number of large number of G20 events at different levels across the country during it’s presidency.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday flagged off the ‘Run for G-20 Walkathon’ being organised in four cities of the state to spread mass awareness about the G-20 Summit to be held in February.

The four cities include Lucknow, Agra, Varanasi, and Gautam Buddha Nagar simultaneously.
From sportspersons, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, civil defence, and sports teachers of Basic Shiksha Parishad, Nehru Yuva Kendra to Prantiya Raksha Dal jawans, NDRF and PAC band members participated in the walkathon, informed the government on Saturday.

CM also laid the foundation stone for the G-20 multi-purpose sports hall at KD Singh Babu Stadium to be built at a cost of Rs 519 lakhs. On this occasion, Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak handed over the flag bearing the G-20 logo to the Chief Minister.

While addressing the occasion, the CM said that Uttar Pradesh has got the opportunity to host the G-20 conference and to promote the state’s image, culture, food, and digital UP globally through this conference.

“With the motto of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam and the resolution of “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” the G-20 conference is being organised in India this year and a total of 11 meetings will be held in Uttar Pradesh on different days of the G-20 conference,” Yogi pointed out.

An array of programmes are being organised in the state on a large scale in view of the G-20 conference from today, including among others a walkathon and a mini-marathon.

Emphasising that the programmes are aimed at ensuring public participation in the event, the CM congratulated the participants, including public representatives and administrative officials in the four districts.

He said, “As the country celebrates Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav with enthusiasm, we can see ourselves making great achievements. The world accepts today that in this era of global crisis, India and PM Modi are the only leaders that can rescue and revive the world.”

Stating that Indian sages always talked about considering the whole world as one family (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam), the CM said, “Today it is a matter of pride for us that India has got the leadership of this G-20 and UP has got the opportunity to host it.”

“This event will be attended by representatives from 20 major countries around the world, as well as representatives from nine friendly countries. It will be a matter of pleasure for us that, along with hospitality service, we are getting the opportunity to showcase the new heights of development that the country has touched. The event will take place in Lucknow from February 13 to 15. We will get an opportunity to showcase the competence that UP has achieved in the technology field in recent times. We must set an excellent example of Atithi Devo Bhava,” the CM marked.

He further stated that the month of February is very important for Uttar Pradesh as the state is gearing up to host the Global Investors Summit, every big investor and entrepreneur from all over the world and country will come here and try to associate themselves with the prosperity and potential of the state. More than 10,000 entrepreneurs will visit the state to take part in the event.

The CM announced that UP would celebrate its foundation day on January 24. A series of programs will start from the foundation day and continue till February 15. On this occasion, every district will be associated with these programs. All the events of the G-20 conference will continue till August. (ANI)

Yogi orders probe of all Waqf properties

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to undertake a probe of all the properties recorded under Waqf.

The state government has asked district administrations to undertake a survey of such properties and submit the reports within a month.

According to the official spokesman, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the investigation of all properties that were registered after ‘flouting the 1995 Waqf Act or under a government order passed in April 1989 which allowed the registration of Usar, Banjar & Bhita lands as Waqf property’.

Shakeel Ahmed, deputy secretary in the Yogi Adityanath government has written a letter to the Minority Welfare Department, Director & Survey Commissioner of Minority Welfare, District Minority Welfare officers, CEO Shia & Sunni Waqf Board and Revenue officials regarding the matter.

It is believed that the government is keen on stopping the illegal possession and transfer of properties related to Waqf.

Earlier this month, the Uttar Pradesh government started surveying the unaffiliated madrasas and issued instructions to the district magistrates regarding the surveys.

Commenting on the matter, Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind said that it has no objections to the survey of unaffiliated madrasas by the Uttar Pradesh government.

Yogi pulls up police over Lulu mall protests

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has hauled up the district and police administration over the protests organised outside Lulu mall in state capital Lucknow.

He has directed the Lucknow administration to check anti-social elements from disturbing communal harmony and lawlessness.

“It should take the matter seriously and such lapses will not be tolerated. Miscreants trying to create disturbance in the mall should be dealt with strictly,” he said.

Addressing administrative and police officers through video-conferencing on Monday evening, the Chief Minister said that Lulu mall, a business establishment, had been turned into a political hotbed.



“Unnecessary statements were being made by certain people and demonstrations being organised to obstruct the movement of people visiting the mall. No one should be permitted to obstruct traffic on the road by organising prayers or other events,” he directed.

Meanwhile, the Lucknow Police Commissionerate said that the alleged video of four persons being portrayed as those who allegedly offered namaz in Lulu mall on July 12 was fake.

This video, which went viral on July 15, was actually of the people which police arrested on July 15 for an attempt to recite Hanuman Chalisa and offer namaz inside the mall, said police officials.

The Chief Minister further asked police officers to review the situation in their respective districts and keep an eye on anti-social elements.

Talking about the Amroha incident where two Kanwariyas were killed in a road accident, Adityanath said, “If the Kanwariyas had gone on the wrong side, then where was the patrol party? It clearly shows that the police team was not present at the spot.”

He added that during the month of ‘Sawan’ along with Kanwar Yatras, various programmes will be organised across the state. At some places, ‘Jalabhisek’ will be organised, as will be Yatras, melas and other events and the focus should be on security and alertness.

“There are inputs that anti-social elements might attack the Kanwariyas at evening while they are resting. There should be proper security at the spot where they rest as well as along the route they travel on. There should be traffic diversion on the route,” he said.

The Chief Minister added that a work plan must be prepared for the management of the crowd at major temples in coordination with the temple management.

Buses run by the UPSTRC which are in good condition should be permitted to ply on the road. Officers should ensure that ramshackle buses are removed from service, Adityanath said.

Focus should be on cleanliness and drinking water during festivals and at melas, he added.

Azad hopes to be kingmaker in UP

In an exclusive conversation with Mohammad Suaib Khan, Azad Samaj Party chief Chandra Shekhar Aazad spoke on his reasons for contesting from the Gorakhpur Assembly constituency.

Azad Samaj Party President Chandra Shekhar Aazad is contesting against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from the Goarakhpur Assembly seat. Aazad is confident of his win and his party becoming the kingmaker.

In an exclusive conversation with IANS, Aazad spoke on several issues regarding the state Assembly elections, including his reasons for contesting from the Gorakhpur Assembly constituency. He claims that hundreds of people, including many BJP leaders have asked him to contest the elections as they are upset with the saffron party. Azad promises to pose a formidable political challenge to the BJP.

Here are excerpts from the interview:

Q: What are your expectations while entering the political fray and how many seats are you sure of winning this time?

A: My expectations are democratic, even if a party has won only a single vote, it hopes that it will form the government. My party has been working hard for the last six years. My party has worked for the welfare of the marginalised and deprived sections of the society such as Dalits, backward castes, Muslims, etc. Our party has worked extensively on the issues concerning women, farmers and employment. The common man is angry with all other party leaders except ours as all these parties have been in power in the past. People are disappointed with all other parties as they are not getting employment while inflation across the country is at an all-time high.

My party is contesting in all 403 Assembly constituencies. Only time will tell which party has the people’s support. I don’t want to make tall claims and only believe in working hard. My party knows how to work on the ground, how to fight and has struggled a lot. Today incompetent people are running the country who neither know the constitution nor use parliamentary language. The ruling party only wants to deflect the people’s attention from development and other important issues by doing the politics of religious polarisation.

Q: You are contesting election from the Gorakhpur Assembly constituency, which is a stronghold of the BJP. Are you not committing suicide with such a political decision?

A: “If Gorakhpur is indeed a stronghold of the BJP, then how did it slip away from them during the UP bypolls when the BJP was in the government both in the state and at the Centre. If it is indeed BJP’s stronghold, why then have so many top leaders quit the party in the state? Each and every vote is important which decides who the people choose as an MLA. Yogi ji is also contesting elections for the first time as am I. The people of Uttar Pradesh gave Yogi Ji five years, yet Gorakhpur is in shambles.”

“Murders are frequently happening in Gorakhpur. Hundreds of children are dying due to Japanese Encephalitis while the BJP government is in power. As many as 122 people have been allegedly booked under the stringent National Security Act, 15 such cases have been registered in Gorakhpur alone. Today those party leaders who were supporting Yogi ji are contesting elections against him. There are many cases of corruption against the BJP government. The Election Commission urges other parties not to violate the model code of conduct but while filing their respective nomination, huge political banners have been put on display.”

“If the UP Chief Minister thinks that he will become a tall leader by misusing power, the public will decide soon. I hope that my party will receive people’s support and we will defeat the BJP government.”

Q: Will your party play the role of a kingmaker in the formation of government in Uttar Pradesh?

A: “Yes, my party will play a significant role in the formation of government in the state. Only democracy thrives in our country and arrogant as well as dictatorial regimes will not last long here. Congress was in power in the past for a long time, I have seen them being voted out of power.”

“The situation in Gorakhpur is extremely bad and it is such that when I came here, hundreds of people and several top BJP leaders told me that they want an opposition leader to give the BJP a tough political challenge. If someone challenges the BJP to fight them politically, then the ruling BJP uses the Enforcement Directorate and other central investigating agencies as tools to harass their political opponents. I am the only opposition leader who can politically fight the BJP. So the people will vote for my party and help us win the elections.”

“I belong to Uttar Pradesh and the people of Gorakhpur need me. The BJP government did not work despite the people giving it a chance to govern the state for the last five years, therefore now the people want me to contest elections.”

Q: If your party plays a decisive role in forming the government in the state, then with which party will you form an alliance?

A: “I will reiterate again that the BJP government has been given the chance to govern the state for five years. Now the people should give me a chance to become the state Chief Minister. One significant issue is the implementation of a caste census in the state, why is the BJP government staying silent over it? Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Ji had said that his party stands firmly with leaders from the backward community, why is he not uttering a word on the 52 per cent reservation for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs). So why is the BJP or the SP not making promises on important issues if they want to form the government in the state.

Q: Will you stake claim for the Chief Minister’s chair as the role of a kingmaker?

A: “Of course my party will, if we get a chance because only then will we able to do something for the people.”

Q: In Uttar Pradesh, you are a youth leader. Do national parties face a threat from your party in future. This is why they do not want you to stitch an alliance with your party in the ongoing state Assembly elections?

A: “I believe in doing hard work, I don’t know how long I will live. The identity of a person is known by his/her work. My father was a teacher and I come from a poor family.

I understand that during the last 70 years, if the poor continue to stay poor, then how have we changed as a country? If the government is giving free ration as the elections are near, then it is the responsibility of the government. The people choose a government so that their problems are addressed.

“People in Uttar Pradesh are still deprived of basic facilities, the condition of roads in Muzaffarnagar is quite bad. People have given every party a chance to be in power in the past, I am young and want to do politics of change.

I don’t want to do politics promoting family rule and corruption. If I am part of any government and injustice is done to any person, then I will not remain silent. My party will stand with the people who are in distress and demand accountability from the government in power which is what all other parties fear.”

Q: BSP supremo Mayawati ji is not seen actively during the ongoing state elections, will the people see you as repacing her as a mass Dalit leader?

A: “The socialist ideology means working with certain principles, I do not work only for the Dalit community. Mayawati ji is much older than me and I respect her. Every party has their own political strategy. As elections are approaching, Akhilesh ji and other party leaders are coming forward to garner people’s votes. Leaders from various parties did not interact with people on the ground for the last five years when the people needed their support the most.

“Behenji (Mayawati) is making necessary efforts, since the past many times people have chosen to distance themselves from her. The people are doing so since they feel that leaders like Mayawati are present among the people only during the election season. People are disappointed with the BJP government and people are supporting my party as we work at the ground level. My party fights against any form of injustice and raises pertinent issues. I am contesting state elections for the first time. I have given tickets to more than 100 people from the backward community despite hailing from poor families.”

Elections in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases and voting will take place on February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27, March 3 and 7. The results will be declared on March 10. The first phase of polling will start from districts of western Uttar Pradesh and gradually end with eastern Uttar Pradesh districts.

As many as 58 Assembly constituencies will go to polls during the first phase and 64 seats in the final and seventh phase.

BJP to Retain UP With Loss of Seats: Poll

According to the latest round of opinion polls, the ruling BJP is expected to grab 40.7 per cent of the vote share in the Assembly polls, reports Asian Lite News

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to return to power in 2022 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, though with significant reduction in the number of seats that the saffron party is expected to win, as per the latest round of opinion poll of more than 72,000 samples surveyed in the ABP-CVoter-IANS poll between first weeks of October and November.

Other key political players in the state – Samajwadi Party (SP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Congress are not in a position to dislodge the Yogi Adityanath government in 2022, as things stand today.

According to the latest round of opinion polls, the ruling BJP is expected to grab 40.7 per cent of the vote share in the Assembly polls. Notably, the saffron party has continuously maintained its vote share of around 41 per cent in the state; in 2017 Assembly elections the BJP had garnered 41.4 per cent of the votes polled.

As for other the vote share of other key political players in the state, the survey shows that while the vote share of SP is expected to witness a jump of 7.5 per cent from 23.6 per cent in 2017 to 31.1 per cent in 2022, the BSP’s vote share is likely to witness a slump of 7.1 per cent from 22.2 per cent in 2017 to 15.1 per cent in 2022.

BJP

The country’s grand old party – Congress, out of power in the state since 1989, is expected to get 8.9 per cent of the votes. It had secured 6.3 per cent votes in 2017.

In terms of number of seats, as per the survey data, BJP and its allies are projected to grab seats in a range of 213 to 221 seats in 2022 Assembly polls. Though BJP and its alliance partners will witness a dip of almost 100 seats from the figure of 325 seats they had won in 2017, the coalition is expected to cross the majority figure comfortably.

The total strength of Uttar Pradesh Assembly is 403 seats.

The SP and its alliance partners, emerging as key challenger to the saffron party are expected to win 152 to 160 seats this time. The survey further shows that BSP is continuously losing the political ground in the state as the party can secure victory on just 16 to 20 seats. Congress party is likely to grab 6 to 10 seats.

Notably, the survey found that more people don’t want to see incumbent Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath returning to power once again in 2022. During the survey, while 51.9 per cent of the respondents said that they don’t want Yogi Adityanath to occupy the post, 48.9 per cent expressed their opinion in his favour.

However, interestingly, when compared to other key contenders for the post of Chief Minister, Yogi is still the most preferred choice for the top post in the state. During the survey, while 41.4 per cent of the respondents said that Yogi is their preferred choice, 31.4 per cent opined in favour of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav for the top job and 15.6 per cent of the respondents said they want to see BSP supremo Mayawati as next Chief Minister.

Only 4.9 per cent of those interviewed during the survey wanted Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to be the next chief minister of the state.

Another interesting finding of the survey is that the majority of the respondents believe Mayawati, a key political player in the state for more than three decades, has become irrelevant in this election.

While 60.3 per cent of those, who were surveyed, believe that the Dalit leader is out of race for the upcoming Assembly polls, only 30.7 per cent believe that she is still a key contender.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi has been actively campaigning for her party in Uttar Pradesh, leading protests over a host of issues in the recent months, however, the survey data suggests that her political activism won’t benefit the grand old party in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

Out of those interviewed, while 52.8per cent% of the respondents said that Congress will not benefit from Priyanka Gandhi being active in Uttar Pradesh, 47.2 per cent believe that Gandhi will be able to woo enough voters for the party.

The Lakhimpur Kheri incident in which protesters were run over and mob lynching took place will dent the BJP’s electoral prospects, as per the latest round of survey conducted after the horrific incident.

During the survey while 62.1 per cent of the respondents opined that the Lakhimpur Kheri incident will harm the BJP’s election prospects, 21.5 per cent said that the saffron party will benefit from the incident, which snowballed into major controversy triggering widespread protests by the farming community.

The survey data suggests that the strategy Akhilesh Yadav is forging alliance with smaller parties that are essentially caste-centric with support restricted to a few districts like O.P. Rajbhar-led Suheldev Bharat Samaj Party (SBSP) will harm the BJP’s electoral prospects in the upcoming Assembly polls.

The survey data suggests that unemployment, farmers’ protest, inflation and the Ram temple will be key issues in the upcoming Assembly polls.

During the survey, while 29.7 per cent of the respondents said law and order will be the biggest issue, 16.7 per cent opined that unemployment will be the most important issue. While 14.7 per cent of those interviewed feel inflation will be the major issue, 14.1 per cent said that Ram temple will be the most significant.
