The plenary session of the second G-20 EMPOWER meeting began at Kovalam in Thiruvananthapuram on April 5. Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Women and Child Development Dr. Munjpara Mahendrabhai addressed the session.
The Union Minister addressing the plenary session of the G20 EMPOWER meeting said that women empowerment is essential for economic growth and that a sustainable financial model and online marketing system will be set up to encourage women-led business ventures. Munjpara Mahendrabhai also inaugurated the exhibition organized in connection with the meeting.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Indivar Pandey said that women’s education, employment and high leadership positions are essential for the empowerment of nations. Issues such as economic prosperity through women empowerment, women entrepreneurship, leadership development and women’s participation in non-traditional sectors will be discussed in the plenary session.
Yoga and cultural programmes showcasing the State’s culture have been arranged for the delegates. An exhibition organised by the National Institute of Fashion Technology on various aspects of women empowerment will also be held.
The guests will also get an opportunity to know more about locally produced toys, handloom and handicraft made by women, Ayurveda oils, and other health products of the AYUSH Ministry. They will also visit the Kerala Arts and Crafts Village at Vellar.
The first G20 EMPOWER meeting was held on February 11-12 at Agra in Uttar Pradesh. “The G20 Alliance for the Empowerment and Progression of Women’s Economic Representation (EMPOWER) is an alliance of G20 business leaders and governments that aims to accelerate women’s leadership and empowerment in the private sector,” a government release said on Monday.
