Malaysia Airlines introduces new payment method to purchase tickets

Malaysia Airlines announced the launch of MHPay, a new alternative payment method for consumers purchasing air tickets, ancillary products, and services through malaysiaairlines.com.

MHPay is intended to supplement the airline’s entire suite of digitalised payment methods, with the goal of improving the customer experience by providing greater access to all payment options via a single integration point.

MHPay, developed in collaboration with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and powered by 2C2P, the full-suite payments platform, provides Malaysia Airlines customers with a seamless and secure method of making online payments. Malaysia Airlines was the first airline in Southeast Asia to adopt IATAPay, and the alternative payment method has been successfully implemented.

Customers in India will be able to use MHPay through their preferred online bank in the first phase, benefiting from more convenient and secure digital payment solutions as it offers a real-time payment option that uses UPI rails with more than 90 percent of retailing banks in the respective market and supports account-to-account payments without the use of a credit or debit card at no service fee charge.

Furthermore, MHPay provides a cost-effective payment alternative with a quick transaction time of less than a minute for end-to-end flow, depending on connectivity, and has proven to lower payment fraud cases to further enhance payment security, which is a high priority for airlines.

Emirates crowned as ‘Best Airline Worldwide’ at Business Traveller Middle East awards

Emirates has once again been crowned as ‘Best Airline Worldwide’ for the ninth consecutive time at last night’s Business Traveller Middle East awards…reports Asian Lite News

At a ceremony attended by key travel industry executives, the airline also swept three other categories, including airline with the “Best Premium Economy Class”, “Best Economy Class” and “Best Frequent Flyer Programme”.

The awards are a recognition of Emirates’ unrelenting commitment to delivering on its ‘Fly Better’ promise through multi-billion dollar investments in customer experience initiatives, products and services in the air and on the ground during a year of rebuilding and recovery. Even when others were cutting back, Emirates continued to introduce new offerings and enhancements, giving it the strategic advantage to further differentiate its signature customer experience from booking to boarding.

Just a year after its debut, Emirates’ Premium Economy has shown that it’s a cut above the rest, and has been highly sought after by customers thanks to its 19.5 inch spacious seats, 40 inch roomy pitch and relaxing 8 inch reclining position, rounded off by soft leather finishings, 6-way adjustable headrests, a footrest and luxurious wood panelling inspired by the airline’s Business Class cabin.

To ensure more customers get to experience this cabin class on more routes, Emirates will begin its retrofit programme in November to install Premium Economy on 67 A380s and 53 Boeing 777s. At the end of the programme, Emirates will have 126 aircraft fitted out with Premium Economy cabins, as well as the airline’s newest interiors across other cabins.

Over the last year, Emirates has also rolled out a series of customer-focused initiatives including accelerating and scaling up its digital initiatives for smoother journeys through more biometric and contactless touchpoints in Dubai.

Emirates Skywards, the loyalty programme of Emirates and flydubai, has over 29 million members, and continues to lead the industry with world-class offerings like providing members with more opportunities to spend Miles on an extensive range of benefits and privileges. Emirates to launch NFTs and exciting experience in Metaverse

Emirates will soon launch Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and exciting experiences in the metaverse for its customers and employees…reports Asian Lite News

The airline, which has earned a reputation for its innovative products and customer-centric services, today unveiled its plans to build signature brand experiences in the metaverse, alongside both collectible and utility-based NFTs. The first projects are already underway, with launch anticipated in the coming months.

Emirates also announced that its Emirates Pavilion at the Expo 2020 site will be repurposed into a centre for innovation, bringing talent from all over the globe to bring to life the airline’s future-focused projects including those relating to the metaverse, NFTs and Web3.

Israel approves $100 million plan to support airlines

Israel’s three major airlines will receive $100 million from the government to deal with the Omicron crisis, the country’s Finance and Transport Ministries said in a joint statement…reports Asian Lite News

Under the plan, the Israeli government will offer El Al, Israir and Arkia airlines convertible bonds, which can be exchanged into shares, for three years without interest, at a total of $85 million, reports Xinhua news agency.

The government will also fund in advance for 20 years excess fuel and maintenance expenses related to the air defense systems installed on the planes, at a total of $15 million for all three airlines.

Israel has witnessed a surge of Covid-19 cases caused by the outbreak of the Omicron variant.

Israel launches aid program for country’s airlines

Israel’s Finance and Transport Ministries have announced an aid program for the country’s airlines, which were severely battered by the Covid-19 crisis…reports Asian Lite News

Approved by the government, the airlines will receive financial assistance against bonds convertible for stocks for a period of three years without interest, reports Xinhua news agency.

The state aid, totalling up to $44 million, will be transferred to the airlines in parallel with an equal amount capital flow by the owners.

After three years, the airlines will be entitled to choose whether to repay the bond to the state or convert the debt into shares allotted to the state.

The share of the state in the stock capital of each airline will not exceed 24 per cent.

In addition, the shares to be held by the state will be dormant so that it will not have the right to vote as a shareholder.

The plan joins the government’s previous support for airlines announced in May this year.

SL approves five new airlines to revive tourism

The Sri Lankan government has approved five new airlines to operate into the country before the end of this year aimed at boosting tourist arrivals following the easing of Covid curbs, Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.

Accordingly, Sweden’s Edelweiss Air will operate a weekly flight and Russia’s Aeroflot twice a week from November 1, while Air France will fly three times a week from November 3, reports Xinhua news agency.

In addition, from the first week of December, Russia’s AZUR Air and Italy’s Neos Air will fly twice a week to Colombo, the Minister said.

The operations of these airlines into the country will be subject to strict health guidelines.

“The aim is to enhance foreign earnings through the revival of the tourism industry and contribute to the national economy,” Ranatunga said.

With international travel having begun following the administration of the vaccine against Covid-19 globally, nearly 16,500 tourists had arrived in Sri Lanka between October 1 and 24, boosting hopes for the crisis-ridden industry.

“If the trend continues, October is likely to record the highest monthly arrivals for this year,” Ranatunga said.

“With the easing of travel restrictions, there is a growing interest from global travellers to visit the country,” the Minister added.

According to official figures, September saw the highest arrival of 13,547 tourists, thereby boosting the first nine months’ figure to over 54,768.

The majority of these tourists were from India, the UK, Pakistan, Russia, Germany, Maldives, Canada, France, the US and Indonesia.
