Ajman sees 15% rise in economic licences in 2024

 The report issued by the Department of Economic Development in Ajman (Ajman DED) recorded a significant growth in business activity during the first half of 2024, where the licence growth rate reached 15 percent compared to the first half of 2023, amounting to 37,755 active licences.

The increase in these indicators confirms the sustainability and vitality of the business sector in the emirate.

The report also indicated a 5 percent growth in the issuance of licences, with a total of 3,000 new licences issued during the first half. The percentage of issuance of new industrial and commercial licences increased by 14 percent.

The top new licenced activities issued by the Department were: the sale of ready-made women’s clothing, building maintenance, and restaurants.

The report also showed that more than 15,000 licences were renewed, with a growth rate of 9 percent. Industrial licences led the renewal activity with a rate of 10 percent, followed by professional and commercial licences at 9 percent compared to the same period last year. Additionally, more than 34,000 commercial permits were issued during that period.

On this occasion, Abdullah Ahmed Al Hamrani, Director-General of the Ajman DED, stated, “These figures reflect the remarkable improvement in the business environment in the Emirate of Ajman, which enhances its position as a preferred investment destination for both local and international investors. These results embody the emirate’s efforts to facilitate business operations and streamline administrative and legislative procedures.”

Al Hamrani added, “We are committed to continuing to support and enhance the business environment in the Emirate of Ajman, and to providing promising opportunities for investors and entrepreneurs, to achieving sustainable economic development and reaching new levels of economic prosperity.”

Ajman, India explore joint cooperation

 Salem Al Suwaidi, Director General of Ajman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), reiterated the chamber’s keenness to strengthen its cooperation with India, driven by the growing number of Indian investors and businessmen in the emirate, which reached 9,549 members in the chamber during 2023.

This came during a meeting today between Al Suwaidi and Satish Sivan, Consul General of India to Dubai and the Northern Emirates, to discuss joint economic cooperation, explore investment opportunities, and promote trade between Ajman and India.

The meeting explored cooperation opportunities in the education and healthcare sectors in particular, as they are among the most prominent sectors that the emirate seeks to develop and increase investment in them.

The Ajman Department of Tourism Development (ADTD), led by His Excellency Mahmood Khaleel Alhashmi, Director General, is set to embark on a roadshow in the United Kingdom from February 12 to 15, 2024. The initiative aims to foster collaboration with key stakeholders in the UK tourism sector and draw visitors from various cities. The delegation’s itinerary includes stops in Glasgow, Birmingham, and London, where the latest destinations and projects will be showcased to boost Ajman’s global tourism appeal.

The UK has been instrumental in Ajman’s tourism success, ranking among the top ten countries contributing tourists to the emirate. In 2023, foreign tourism experienced a notable 7% increase concerning the total number of English tourists (both residents and non-residents) compared to the previous year, marking steady growth.

Expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming tour, His Excellency Mahmood Khaleel Alhashmi, conveyed his delight regarding the upcoming tour, stating, “This promotional campaign aligns seamlessly with our vision to solidify the emirate’s standing on the global tourism map, placing a strong emphasis on fortifying partnerships, sharing experiences, and drawing insights from the best practices. We are confident that the meetings and memorandums of understanding to be signed during this tour will significantly contribute to supporting sustainable economic development in tourism and introduce the diverse tourism products and projects offered by the emirate.”

Expressing optimism about the ongoing roadshow effort, His Excellency highlighted its potential as a pivotal moment in augmenting awareness of Ajman’s tourism and cultural facets. He believes that this campaign will not only serve as a means to attract visitors from the United Kingdom but will also act as an effective gateway to fostering collaboration with local and international partners in the tourism sector. Recent years witnessed remarkable growth in Ajman’s tourism sector, boasting an 11% surge in total hotel revenues, a 6% increase in occupancy rates, and an 11% rise in visitor numbers compared to the same period in 2022. With 50 hotel facilities and approximately 4,300 rooms, Ajman maintains an 82% occupancy rate, according to the STR report, reflecting a 6% increase in revenue per available room (RevPAR) over the previous year.

Simultaneously, Ajman is experiencing a tourism upswing, with escalating hotel revenues, occupancy rates, and visitor numbers. The emirate is solidifying its status as a preferred destination for UK and Ireland tourists, witnessing a surge in nights spent and arrivals from these countries.

The department is committed to elevating awareness about Ajman as an appealing tourist destination, offering unique experiences aligned with the local culture and history. These efforts are expected to bolster the local economy, create job opportunities, increase hotel occupancy, and enhance Ajman’s image as an attractive tourist haven.

Economic Licenses in Ajman Grow by 11%

The business movement report for the third quarter (Q3) of 2023, which is issued by the Department of Economic Development in Ajman (Ajman DED) revealed a growth in the total number of economic licenses by 11%.

Considering the distribution of economic licenses by category, professional licenses came in first place with 51% of the total licenses, followed by commercial licenses with 44%, and then industrial license with 4%.

The report stated that the license renewal movement in Q3 2023 recorded unprecedented growth rates, reaching 11%, as renewed licenses increased by 10% for professional licenses, 12% for commercial licenses, and 11% for industrial licenses. In addition, licenses of the “Taziz” program for SME development and “Reyada” licenses for practicing home activities grew by 9% each.

According to the report, the new licenses issued in Q3 2023 amounted to 1,428 licenses. The report also indicated that the order of the new licenses issued by nationality is topped by Emiratis, followed by the Indian, Pakistani.

Abdullah Ahmed Al Hamrani, Director General of Ajman DED, said: “The recent results of business activity show remarkable growth in various sectors, indicate the emirate’s success in attracting new companies and maintaining a sustainable growth rate, and confirm the confidence of investors and businessmen in the strength of economic performance. These rates are a testimony to the flexibility and efficiency of Ajman’s economy in the face of the economic and political conditions that the world is experiencing, and to support the process of economic growth and diversification based on competitiveness and innovation in the emirate, which contributes to consolidating Ajman’s position as a global investment destination, and making it the ideal choice for entrepreneurs and investors locally and globally.”

Al Hamrani stressed the importance of integration between the government and private sectors because of the influential and effective role that the private sector plays in supporting the comprehensive economic development process and achieving the ambitious vision for Ajman in particular and the UAE in general in various fields.

The Ajman Department of Tourism Development (ADTD) is conducting a roadshow in India to showcase the emirate’s unique tourism and entertainment developments.

During the event, a delegation headed by Mahmood Khaleel Alhashmi, Director General of the Ajman Department of Tourism Development will hold a series of meetings with key tourism officials, travel and tourism agents, tour operators, and hotel managers and representatives to attract more visitors to Ajman and highlight the Emirate’s investment opportunities.

The roadshow will be held from 9th to 13th October in Bangalore, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad, and aims to build fruitful partnerships and enhance cooperation with representatives of the tourism sector and concerned parties to attract tourists from various parts of India and investors to the tourism sector, increase hotel occupancy rates, and highlight the new projects and latest developments in Ajman.

In this regard, Mahmood Khaleel Alhashmi, Director General of the Ajman Department of Tourism Development stated, “Ajman Tourism continues to enhance Ajman’s position on the global tourism map in line with the directives of Sheikh AbdulAziz Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the department, and H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman”.

He explained that Ajman Tourism maintains its efforts to highlight the Emirate’s unique features and support Ajman’s position as one of the leading tourist destinations in the UAE, shed light on the key tourism projects and developments including new tourist, heritage and ecotourism destinations and activities to enrich the visitors’ experience, support sustainable development and promote the emirate’s tourism sector.

India represents a key market for the Emirate of Ajman with an increased number of Indian visitors to the emirate which continues to provide exceptional visitor experience and high-quality services for business and leisure travellers with various interests and age groups.

Ajman Tourism reports indicate that the Indian market has been the 2nd largest among international feeder markets for Ajman over the past three years, with more than 65,000 visitors constituting over 12 percent of the tourists visiting the Emirate.

Reports also reveal a significant increase in the number of Indian non-UAE residents compared to Indian residents during the past few years, and an overall increase in the number of Indian visitors from 31 percent in 2019 to 48 percent in 2023 year-to-date, in addition to an increase in length of stay of the Indian guests by 23 percent year-over-year.

Ajman Real Estate market Thrives

The real estate market in Ajman showed robust performance in the first half of 2023 (H1’23), with total real estate transactions surpassing AED 7.17 billion.

This figure, which represents a significant growth rate of 15.6 per cent compared to the corresponding period in 2022, was included in the real estate report published by the Department of Lands and Real Estate Regulation and underscored the thriving economic activity in the emirate’s property sector.

Omar bin Omair Al Muhairi, Director-General of the Department of Lands and Real Estate Regulation, said that the aforementioned period witnessed a total of 5,310 real estate transactions, adding that the cumulative value of these transactions exceeding AED7.17 billion highlights a robust demand for properties.

The trading volume accounted for AED 4.57 billion, involving 3,980 trading operations. Mortgage transactions numbered 972, translating to a total value of AED 1.55 billion.

Al Muhairi also noted that this performance is in line with the consistent upward trajectory of the emirate’s real estate sector and can be primarily attributed to a sustained demand for properties and a steady inflow of investments in diverse real estate projects within the emirate.

May, in particular, emerged as a notable month, witnessing a peak value of real estate transactions totalling AED 1.9 billion, signifying an impressive growth rate exceeding 133 per cent compared to the corresponding month in 2022.

These statistics also collectively portray the resilience and vibrancy of Ajman’s real estate market. (ANI/WAM)

The City Centre Ajman Indoor Run offers the participants the opportunity to partake in various race categories suited to their age and capabilities. The event comprises two main distances for adults: the 8km race, open to individuals aged 14 and above, and the 4km race, available for participants aged 8 and above. Additionally, there is an exciting 800m Junior race, specially designed for children aged 0 to 7. This inclusive approach ensures that everyone can join in the thrill and excitement of the event.

Ajman’s ruler launches Masfout Development Project

Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman launched the Masfout Development Project in Ajman.

The launch event, attended by Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, and Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Emirates Council for Balanced Development, took place at Al Safiya Resort in Mushairef, Ajman. During the event, Sheikh Humaid was briefed by Sheikh Theyab about the project’s strategic pillars, which aim to unleash the area’s various social, tourism and cultural potential.

The event was also attended by Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Ajman Department of Tourism Development, Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Municipality and Planning Department, and Mohamed Khalifa Al Kaabi, Secretary-General of the Emirates Council for Balanced Development, along with several Sheikhs and senior officials.

The participants reviewed the strategic themes of the project, approved by the Emirates Council for Balanced Development. It aims to implement a wide range of innovative development strategies in Masfout, where cultural tourism forms the central axis of the region’s development.

Sheikh Humaid affirmed that the social stability of citizens and their families in various regions of the country, improving their living standards, and ensuring their well-being and happiness, are priorities of the UAE’s leadership, headed by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Humaid lauded the efforts of the Emirates Council for Balanced Development, led by Sheikh Theyab, through the “Emirates Villages” project, which is a model of balanced and sustainable economic and social development based on partnerships between the government, private and community sectors.

Sheikh Ammar expressed his happiness at Masfout being chosen as the site of the second project under Emirates Villages. He stressed that they are looking forward to presenting a distinguished developmental model in this area, with modern specifications that will improve the well-being of the region’s citizens and attract tourism and investment.

Sheikh Ammar added that the Emirates Council for Balanced Development supports the UAE’s comprehensive development, and helps achieve ambitious future goals by investing in human resources and natural potential in every region, benefitting all UAE residents.

Sheikh Theyab affirmed that Masfout has considerable tourism and heritage potential and distinguished national cadres. The goal is to enable its youth to take advantage of economic opportunities, he added and noted that the project, which will commence in Q4 2023, includes the development of tourism, heritage and service facilities to attract 100,000 tourists and support youth projects in the region.

The project is based on several pillars, including developing tourism projects, meeting the community’s services needs with key partners, supporting the private sector through the development of 50 projects, drafting strategic and training programmes that support community members, and promoting the region and its history.

The Masfout Project is the second project of Emirates Villages, launched by the Emirates Council for Balanced Development to establish a sustainable development model and create new economic and investment opportunities to ensure social stability and decent living for the community.

The project involves the development of Al Aflaj and the launch of academic, practical and professional training programmes.

Masfout is known for its fertile and high-quality agricultural lands, and farms spread across a large area. Its moderate summer climate, low humidity and relative winter coldness contribute to its agricultural productivity. Its valleys are among the most fertile in the UAE.

The city of Masfout also has nine main falajs (traditional irrigation canals), with some reaching a length of three kilometres, and secondary seasonal falajs that depend on water flowing from the valleys.

The region also has sustainable and seasonal dams on the outskirts of its valleys, such as Al Khaliban Dam, Al Muzeira Dam and Al Yazir Dam, which collect water flowing from the mountains and plains used for irrigating lands and supplying wells and falajs used for agricultural irrigation.  (ANI/WAM)

Ajman discusses economic cooperation with Russia

In line with the efforts made to strengthen economic relations and diversify foreign partnerships, Salem Al-Suwaidi, Director-General of Ajman Chamber met Ilya Raevskii, Acting Consul General in Dubai, in the presence of a delegation from the Ajman Free Zone.

The parties also shed light on joint cooperation, reviewing the investment opportunities available in the two countries, and developing the volume of bilateral trade.

The meeting was attended by Mohamed Ali Al Janahi, Executive Director of the Trade Development and International Relations at the Ajman Chamber, and from the Ajman Free Zone, Sheikha Abdullah Al-Nuaimi, Executive Director of Commercial Operations, Bashayer Ali Alkumaiti, Executive Director of Strategy and Business Development, and Kirill Podgornyy, Member of the Board of the Russian Business Council (RBC) in Dubai.

At the beginning of the meeting, Salem Al-Suwaidi welcomed the attendees and stressed the importance of the meeting to push forward the joint economic relations and create a supportive atmosphere to enhance partnership and exchange experiences between business owners from the two countries, in addition to highlighting the available investment opportunities.

Sheikha Al Nuaimi illustrated the competitive advantages and facilities provided by the Ajman Free Zone to investors and business owners, stressing that the diversity and momentum of the existing establishments enhance the development and sustainability of business and increase the attractiveness of the Ajman Free Zone and the competitiveness of the economic sector of Ajman in general.

Ilya Raevskii, Acting Consul General in Dubai, thanked for the warm reception and emphasised the depth of the existing relations between the two countries, praising the diversity of economic opportunities in the two countries, and considered the meeting as an opportunity to increase future cooperation in the economy and tourism sectors.

During the meeting, the attendees stressed the necessity of holding joint meetings between the business and trade communities in both countries according to the fields.

In addition, the Ajman Chamber and the Ajman Free Zone affirmed their keenness to provide an attractive and supportive business environment for investors from the Russian Federation.
