Imran Khan arrested by baton-wielding security forces

Based on orders by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested by the Pakistan Rangers from outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday.

Khan had travelled to Islamabad earlier in the day from his Lahore residence to appear before the IHC seeking bail in the Al-Qadir trust case lodged by the NAB.

However, upon his arrival at the IHC, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief was arrested by the Rangers and took him to the NAB office.

According to NAB officials, arrest warrants for the former premier in the Al-Qadir trust case were issued on May 1.

The arrest was made under the same reference, the officials added.

Confirming the arrest, PTI’s lawyer Faisal Chaudhry said that as soon as Khan arrived at the IHC, a large number of Rangers troops surrounded the court premises.

He also said that PTI lawyers and supporters were assaulted.

“Imran Khan has been arrested by Rangers outside the IHC. Lawyers have been subjected to torture and PTI workers and supporters are also being arrested,” said Chaudhry.

IHC Chief Justice has taken notice of the arrest outside the premises, directing the Islamabad police chief, Interior Ministry secretary and additional attorney general to appear before the court immediately, warning that he would summon the Prime Minister if the officials did not appear within 15 minutes.

“Imran Khan has been arrested in Al-Qadir trust case. Situation in under control,” said Inspector General Islamabad Amir Zulfiqar Khan.

The arrest comes hours after Imran Khan recorded a video message before leaving his residence in Lahore, stating that his claims against a senior intelligence agency official were true, who he claimed attempted to assassinate him in two different incidents.

The PTI chief had said that he will provide all evidences when required, calling out the military establishment to get ready to be held accountable by the people.

The arrest of Imran Khan has been on the wishlist of the ruling government, who have been piling up cases against the former premier.

In the wake of the arrest, the situation across the country is expected to become tense supporters of Imran khan are expected to take to the streets, which may lead to chaos and unrest in the coming days.

A joint team of counter intelligence and Moga police picked up the mother of UK-based Khalistan sympathiser Avtar Singh Khanda from her residence in Moga for questioning.

According to reports, Khanda was the brain behind fugitive pro- Khalistan preacher Amritpal Singh’s rise and had groomed him. Khanda was recently arrested in the UK for pulling down India’s national flag at the Embassy in London.

A police team detained his mother Charanjit Kaur from her Moga residence. Police checked her call details and questioned her about her family’s links and last contact with Amritpal Singh, said sources.

Moga SSP J Elanchezhian said that Charanjit Kaur was detained for a few hours for questioning and was released later.

Khanda is the son of Khalistan Liberation Force terrorist Kulwant Singh Khukhrana.

The Counter Intelligence team was working on illegal money transfers through hawala and Charanjit Kaur was likely to be questioned in this regard, said a senior police official on the condition of anonymity.

Mehna Counter Intelligence agency-staff in-charge Inspector Kikkar Singh said Charanjit Kaur was picked-up by the Counter Intelligence wing of the Punjab Police, Ludhiana unit.

Meanwhile, it was also learnt that Khanda’s younger sister had also been picked-up from a Mohali hospital where she was working as a nurse. However, no further details were available on her detention.

A senior police officer confirmed that they had also picked-up Hardeep Singh, alias Deepa, of Dhurkot Charat Singh Wala village on Tuesday and sent him to Ludhiana in the custody of the Counter Intelligence wing. He was arrested in the Amritpal case.

However, Deepa’s association with Amritpal is not yet known. Reportedly, Khanda was in contact with Punjabi actor-turned pro-Khalistan activist Deep Sidhu, who was killed in a road accident on February 15, 2022. Khanda is on the list of “most-wanted” terrorists who have been allegedly giving training on explosives to Sikh youths in UK-based religious institutions.

Imran faces arrest in foreign funding case

Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) issued the second notice to Imran Khan on Friday.

Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has decided to arrest former Prime Minister Imran Khan if he fails to appear before the investigation committee or respond to the notices concerning the prohibited funding case, according to sources.

The agency will get permission from a court of law to arrest Khan to get details of the party funds and accounts, The News reported.

“The final decision to arrest the PTI chief could be taken after issuing three notices,” the sources maintained.

The FIA issued the second notice to Khan on Friday.

The former premier received the first notice on August 10 but refused to appear before the FIA investigation team to provide details of the party funds and accounts, The News reported.

The sources disclosed that five more PTI companies had been traced which were not mentioned in the reports submitted to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and FBR.

These companies are operating in the US, Australia, Canada, the UK and Belgium, they said, adding that the FIA had collected their audit reports, The News reported.

The FIA Banking Circle has repeatedly asked the PTI chief to provide details of the bank accounts but Khan, responding through his legal counsel, said he was neither answerable to the FIA nor could it compel him to provide any information, the sources said.

They added that the PTI chief had threatened the FIA with taking a legal action if the notice was not withdrawn within two days.

“The FIA committee has collected enough evidences to prove Imran guilty of hiding the factual position from the ECP,” the sources said, adding that the third and probably the final notice would be issued next week well before the end of August.

Delhi Police have released all the Congress Parliamentarians who were detained earlier on Friday during Congress’ protest march in the national capital.

The Congress MPs were released after being detained for almost six hours for protesting peacefully and democratically against price rise, unemployment and GST, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said.

As many as 65 Congress lawmakers, including Rahul Gandhi, were detained from Vijay Chowk, close to the Parliament.

The Congress had announced a nationwide protest on Friday against the policies of the Central government which have allegedly led to rise in unemployment and inflation in the country.

Wearing black clothes, the MPs, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, tried to take out a march from the Parliament House to the Rashtrapati Bhawan. However, as they moved forward, the police stopped them midway near Vijay Chowk.

The police tried to convince Rahul Gandhi for a while, but as he refused to stop, they detained him and took him on a bus to the Kingsway police camp.

While speaking to mediapersons before getting detained, Rahul Gandhi accused the Delhi Police of manhandling the Parliamentarians.

“We are standing here on the issues of price rise and unemployment. We wanted to move forward but the police did not allow us,” he said.

When asked about MPs being ‘manhandled’, Rahul Gandhi said, “That is fine. I’m happy to be manhandled. Our job is to resist these forces, our job is to make sure that Indian democracy is protected, our job is to raise issues of the people like price rise and unemployment and we are only doing that.”

Ruckus in Punjab Assembly; Police arrest PTI lawmakers

Police enter Pak Punjab Assembly, arrest lawmakers for creating ruckus.

The Assembly met on Saturday to elect the new chief minister, however, the session turned violent as soon as it began, reports Asian Lite News

In an unprecedented move, police entered the hall of Pakistan Punjab Assembly and arrested at least four Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members for attacking the deputy speaker and creating ruckus, media reports said.

Videos from inside the assembly hall show police force in riot gear trying to remove members from the hall who had stalled the House proceedings, Samaa TV reported. These are the members who attacked Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari.

The Assembly met on Saturday to elect the new chief minister, however, the session turned violent as soon as it began.

PTI members brought ‘lotas’ with them which they hurled in the Assembly hall. As Mazari arrived on the dias to chair the session, PTI members hit him with ‘lotas’.

Mazari was even slapped by the members after which he was escorted by the serjeant-at-arms.

After the violence, anti-riot force that was positioned in the Assembly premises entered the Assembly hall. However, they were later made to leave after PTI members objected to their presence.

According to the single-point agenda issued by the Assembly secretariat, the voting for the new chief minister will be held on Saturday.

Hamza Shahbaz of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) is up against Pakistan Muslim League-Q’s (PMLQ) Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

Congress demands Eshwarappa’s arrest

Opposition leader Siddaramaiah demanded that it is a ‘heinous crime’ and non-bailable offence…reports Asian Lite News

Hours after Eshwarappa announced to tender his resignation, the state Congress said on Thursday that resignation is not sufficient, and the BJP leader must be arrested immediately in connection with the suicide case of a civil contractor who held Eshwarappa directly responsible for his death.

The move came after the police had filed an abetment to suicide case against Eshwarappa, the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, after Belagavi-based civil contractor, Santhosh Patil, was found dead at a lodge on Tuesday. Patil, who had blamed Eshwarappa squarely for his death, had earlier accused the senior minister of demanding a 40 per cent cut for clearing bills for various works that he had taken up.

Speaking to reporters, state Congress President D.K. Shivakumar said that Eshwarappa will not keep his words.

“Our struggle won’t stop with his resignation. The FIR speaks many facts relating to corruption. He must be booked under Section 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and he must be arrested immediately,” Shivakumar said.

Opposition leader Siddaramaiah demanded that it is a ‘heinous crime’ and non-bailable offence.

“In all heinous crimes, the accused persons are arrested immediately. But Eshwarappa has not been arrested yet. All are equal before the law,” Siddaramaiah said.

“By deciding to submit his resignation, Eshwarappa has realised his mistakes. First he claimed he did not know Santhosh at all. Did he lodge a defamation case against him without knowing Santhosh at all,” Siddaramaiah asked.

Congress General Secretary and in-charge for Karnataka, Randeep Singh Surjewala, tweeted: “Minister Eshwarappa’s belated resignation is too little, too late. Eshwarappa has to be arrested. Section 13 of Prevention of Corruption Act must be added to the FIR. High Court monitored SIT must investigate & file challan. Independent probe of 40% Commission Bommai Govt!”

Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that Eshwarappa has tendered resignation on his own.

He also denied any direction from the BJP high command in this regard.

“Eshwarappa spoke to me this evening. He told me that he is innocent and did not do anything. He also expressed confidence that he would come out clean in the investigation. He said he will meet me tomorrow (Friday) and also stated that he will not stay in his post as it might embarrass the party,” Bommai said.

2 suspected British Daesh members arrested in Afghanistan

Two men suspected of joining Daesh were seized by the Taliban as they tried to enter Afghanistan last August, an investigation by The Guardian has revealed.

They are thought to be the first reported case of international recruitment by Daesh since the US and its NATO allies left Afghanistan last year.

The men, one carrying a British passport and one with another European passport, were arrested on the Uzbek-Afghan border with more than £10,000 ($13,523) in cash, military fatigues and night-vision goggles in their bags, according to a Taliban source.

“There was one passport from England and one from another country in Europe,” the source told The Guardian, adding that both men were of Afghan descent and had used British passports to enter Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent.

It is not clear, The Guardian added, whether they had an additional European passport or whether the source was confused.

Their interception is a reminder for Western authorities that Daesh maintains an allure to some of their own citizens, despite the terror group’s territorial defeat in Iraq and Syria.

Hundreds of Britons traveled to Daesh’s so-called caliphate at its height, but these men represent the first reported case of international recruitment by Daesh since the Taliban took power.

Daesh’s Afghanistan presence has already proven problematic for the Taliban, having experienced a number of terror attacks, including suicide bombings — much like those they used against NATO forces and the former Afghan government — since taking over.

According to the UN, Daesh’s Afghan division has a presence in every province.

“One of the reasons people are heading to Afghanistan is simply that there is nowhere else to go. It is perhaps the most likely place for aspiring jihadists who want to see combat,” Ashley Jackson, an expert in armed groups in Afghanistan, told The Guardian.

Key conspirator of Ludhiana court blast arrested in Germany

Multan was conspiring to bring in more explosives from Pakistan in India through the international boundary and was also planning to carry out similar blasts in other parts of the country…reports Asian Lite News.

Jaswinder Singh Multan, a top member of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), has been arrested in Germany for allegedly being the main conspirator of the December 23 blast in the Ludhiana district court complex which killed one person and injured five others, sources said.

He was arrested after India shared evidence to counter-terror agencies in Berlin.

“We shared all the evidence that we gathered from the blast spot and also how the conspiracy by Multan was hatched,” said one of the sources.

Multan was conspiring to bring in more explosives from Pakistan in India through the international boundary and was also planning to carry out similar blasts in other parts of the country.

It is also alleged that Multan was also behind pushing arms in the Khemkaran area of Punjab’s Tarn Taran district in October this year.

The Punjab Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) had recovered a huge cache of weapons near the India-Pakistan border in the Khemkaran area on October 20. They had recovered 22 pistols, 44 magazines and 100 rounds of ammunition and also a kg of heroin.

The source said that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) were in touch with Multan.

On December 23, the explosion took place in a washroom on the second floor of the District and Sessions court complex in Ludhiana at around 12.22 p.m.

The counter-terrorism agencies probing the incident had claimed that it was the former Head Constable of Punjab Police, Gagandeep Singh, who planted the bomb at the court complex and died as it suddenly went off killing him on the spot.

Gagandeep Singh, a former police head constable who was dismissed from the service for having links with durg dealer. He was booked under NDPS act and lodged in jail for two years in this connection in 2019.

The probe agencies have also found that Pakistani’s ISI were behind the blast and were in touch with Gagandeep Singh. During the probe, cops found the role of SFJ members Harvinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh Multan, who were based in Germany. They were in touch with SFJ president Avtar Singh Pannu and Harmeet Singh.

A shocking video showing a crossbow-wielding man threatening to “assassinate the Queen in revenge for the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre” has emerged, after a 19-year-old who scaled the Windsor Castle’s spiked fence was sectioned, the Daily Mail reported.

The footage which was obtained by The Sun shows the man, thought to be the arrested suspect, holding a black crossbow and using a distorted voice as he makes threats down the camera.

Jaswant Singh Chail uploaded the pre-recorded video to Snapchat on Christmas Day, 24 minutes before a man was arrested by police inside the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Known to friends as Jas, he used a filter to distort his voice and wore a disturbing hoodie and mask – an outfit thought to be inspired by the ‘Star Wars’, the Daily Mail report said.

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry for what I’ve done and what I will do. I will attempt to assassinate Elizabeth, Queen of the Royal Family. This is revenge for those who have died in the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

“It is also revenge for those who have been killed, humiliated and discriminated on because of their race. I’m an Indian Sikh, a Sith. My name was Jaswant Singh Chail, my name is Darth Jones,” he says in the video.

Sith may be a reference to the leading villains in Star Wars while Darth Jones may relate to James Earl Jones who voiced Darth Vader.

A framed picture of Star Wars character Darth Malgus was visible in the background of the clip, the Daily Mail report said.

The police confirmed that a crossbow was found after the intruder was detained on December 25 in the castle grounds while the Queen was in residence.

Police will be looking at how the intruder was able to scale the spiked perimeter fence surrounding the Berkshire castle’s grounds in the first place.

It is believed he had a makeshift ladder to gain access from the Long Walk, which royals frequently use because of its proximity to the Queen’s private apartments, the report added.

Alongside the video, a message was also sent on Snapchat which said: “I’m sorry to all of those who I have wronged or lied to.

“If you have received this then my death is near. Please share this with whoever and if possible get it to the news if they’re interested.”

The suspect, who police have not yet named, was later sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

Alleged loan scam case: Ex-SBI Chief arrested

Former SBI chairman Pratip Chaudhary has been arrested by the Jaisalmer Police from Delhi on the basis of arrest orders issued by the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in the case of selling a hotel property at a cheap price after declaring it NPA.

Pratip Chaudhary was arrested on Sunday and will be brought to Jaisalmer on Monday.

According to information received from the police, Pratip Chaudhary was arrested from his residence in Delhi in a case related to a hotel group in Jaisalmer. It is alleged that the property worth about Rs 200 crore was sold for Rs 25 crore by declaring it Non Performing Asset (NPA).

This property, in fact, was seized in lieu of the loan.

According to the police, the hotel group had taken a loan of Rs 24 crore from SBI in 2008 for the construction purpose. At that time, another hotel of the group was running smoothly. After that, when the group could not repay the loan amount, the bank seized both the hotels of the group after considering it as a non-performing asset. At that time, the chairman of the bank was Pratip Chaudhary.

The bank then sold both the hotels to a company for Rs 25 crore at a much lower price than the market rate. On this, the hotel group went to court.

Meanwhile, the buyer company took over it in 2016 and when this property was valued in 2017, its market value was found to be Rs 160 crore. At the same time, after retirement, Pratip Chaudhary joined the same company as a director to which this hotel was sold. At present, the value of these hotels is being estimated at Rs 200 crore.

In this case, the CJM Court of Jaisalmer ordered the arrest of Pratip Chaudhary.
