Dum Dum constituency in North 24 Parganas District is one of the nine seats in West Bengal going for polls in the last and seventh phase of the General Elections on June 1….reports Asian Lite News
West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, on Wednesday claimed that she had definite information about a covert understanding between the BJP and CPI(M) on the Dum Dum Lok Sabha seat.
Dum Dum constituency in North 24 Parganas District is one of the nine seats in West Bengal going for polls in the last and seventh phase of the General Elections on June 1.
According to her, the understanding is that while the BJP will transfer its dedicated votes in favour of the CPI(M) candidate from Dum Dum, Dr Sujan Chakraborty, the Left party will reciprocate in the 2026 Assembly elections by transferring its dedicated votes in favour of the saffron candidates in the seven Assembly constituencies under Dum Dum.
The Chief Minister made this explosive claim while addressing a rally at Baruipur under Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency in South 24 Parganas District in support of party candidate Saayoni Ghosh.
However, Sujan Chakraborty rubbished the claims of the Chief Minister and questioned why she did not make such assertions while campaigning at Dum Dum and instead chose Jadavpur for the same.
“The Chief Minister should remember that the BJP could not open its account in West Bengal during the previous Left Front regime in the state. The lotus flourished in the state only during the Trinamool Congress regime,” Chakraborty said.
The state BJP spokesman in West Bengal and the party’s Rajya Sabha MP, Samik Bhattacharya, too, ridiculed the claims.
“The Chief Minister is making such claims at the last moment, understanding that the party’s defeat at Dum Dum is inevitable this time,” said Bhattacharya.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has fielded political heavyweights and former ministers K K Shailaja and T M Thomas Isaac for upcoming Lok Sabha polls….reports Asian Lite News
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) unveiled its roster for 15 Lok Sabha seats in Kerala, featuring prominent figures like former state ministers K K Shailaja and T M Thomas Isaac.
Notably, the CPI and the Kerala Congress (M) had previously announced their candidates.
The party made a strategic move by fielding four of its incumbent MLAs, including Devaswom Minister K Radhakrishnan, in crucial constituencies.
Thomas Isaac and Shailaja, renowned political figures, are gearing up for the upcoming general elections.
Actor-turned MLA Mukesh and V Joy are also among the selected candidates for the LS polls.
Furthermore, the list includes two sitting MPs, A M Arif (Lok Sabha) and Elamaram Kareem (Rajya Sabha). The announcement was made by Party state secretary M V Govindan during a press conference.
Meanwhile, after the Communist Party of India (CPI) announced senior party leader Annie Raja as a candidate for Wayanad, she said that in Kerala the fight is between the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF), adding that the situation is the same and nothing has changed.
The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Monday announced candidates for four Kerala Lok Sabha seats, nominating senior party leader Annie Raja to contest from the Wayanad constituency, a seat presently held by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
“For such a long time, CPI – under the LDF alliance – is contesting on the four seats…This time also, the party has announced its candidates for all these four constituencies. In Kerala, the fight is between LDF and UDF. So, there is nothing new in that…The situation is the same, nothing has changed,” Raja told ANI on Monday.
Earlier in 2019, the CPI contested against Rahul Gandhi. We have been contesting elections from there for a very long time,” she added.
Notably, Pannian Raveendran has been nominated from Thiruvananthapuram, VS Sunil Kumar from Thrissur, and Arun Kumar from Mavelikara.
Congress’ Rahul Gandhi is currently the MP from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat.
The Communist Party of India (CPI) is part of the INDIA bloc, which came into existence to take on the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which is led by PM Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and prevent it from winning a third straight term at the Centre in the Lok Sabha elections.
Meanwhile, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Binoy Viswam said that this is a political battle.
“North India is considered the hotbed of India from where the maximum number of MPs have come to the Parliament, where BJP is a powerful force to fight. Forgetting that reality, what is the political logic for the Congress to come to southmost India, to Kerala, where there are just 20 seats?” Viswam told reporters.
He further asked in this crucial battle of elections, who is the “main enemy of the Congress party, the RSS-led BJP or Left?”
“It is known to everybody that no one from the BJP will be able to win from Kerala. From where should he fight exactly? The essence of the earlier battle of 2019 is there when Rahul Gandhi did the same thing when he came to Wayanad from Amethi. BJP started a campaign which got the cash. They said Rahul Gandhi was afraid of the BJP that’s why he ran to Kerala. This campaign resulted in the defeat of Congress in the entire North India,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kerala has a total of 20 Lok Sabha seats.
Brinda Karat Challenges Rahul’s Claim on Wayanad Seat
After the Communist Party of India (CPI) announced senior party leader Annie Raja as a candidate for Wayanad, CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat said that the incumbent MP from Waynad Rahul Gandhi and the Congress should think about the Waynad seat.
“CPI has declared its candidate for the seat in Wayanad, Comrade Annie Raja, who has played a key role in ‘Mahila Andholan’. Now she will be the candidate from the side of the whole LDF. Rahul Gandhi and the Congress need to think, they say that their fight is against BJP. In Kerala, if you come and fight against Left, what message are you giving? So they need to think about their seat once again,” said CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat.
Earlier, Annie Raja said that in Kerala, the fight is between the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF), adding that the situation is the same and nothing has changed.
