Delhi Lauds Dubai Expo

Piyush Goyal, the Minister for Commerce and Industry, who is slated to inaugurate India’s Pavilion, said the relationship between India and UAE will strengthen stressing on the export sector, reports Asian Lite Newsdesk

India’s Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said the Expo 2020 Dubai will further strengthen India-UAE relations especially exports.

Goyal said, “Dubai Expo 2020 is an important event. The UAE has given the most important place to India as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Crown Prince share a good relation. We will have a high-level task force meeting with their senior ministers. It will further strengthen the India-UAE relation and exports.”

Dubai Expo 2020, which was delayed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is all set to start from Friday. Dubai Expo 2020 will be the world’s second-biggest (after Tokyo Olympics) event since the beginning of the ongoing pandemic and is expected to attract millions of visitors from across the globe.

From India, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal is scheduled to inaugurate the country’s pavilion on Thursday. The India Pavilion is the largest one. It will display the emergence of a New India.

Star-studded opening ceremony

Expo 2020 Dubai’s star-studded Opening Ceremony will be streamed live to more than 430 locations across the UAE, giving everyone the chance to participate in the mind-blowing spectacle, wherever they might be.

This will be followed a night later by three spectacular fireworks displays in Dubai, marking the first full day of the Expo in a spectacular visual celebration commemorating the journey from winning the bid in 2013 to opening the first World Expo in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region and the largest global event held since the start of the pandemic.

On Thursday, 30 September, nation-wide Opening Ceremony viewing parties will take place across the country, thanking the nation for its support and inviting everyone to come together to celebrate this momentous occasion for Dubai, the UAE and the region as a whole.

Screens will be set up in locations ranging from airports and shopping malls to hotels and other landmarks, relaying the incredible music and cultural performances as they happen.

Viewers from anywhere in the world can also join the evening’s proceedings via a global live stream, available on virtualexpo.world and Expo TV from 1930 GST onwards.

Among those slated to perform are world-famous tenor Andrea Bocelli; Grammy-nominated, Golden-Globe-winning actress, singer and songwriter Andra Day; platinum-selling British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding; international mega-star pianist Lang Lang; and four-time Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo.

The incredible fireworks displays will take place on the evening of Friday 1 October, kicking off at 2020 GST, at Dubai Festival City, The Frame and The Pointe, Palm Jumeirah, with each presenting their own unique celebrations. Both The Pointe and Dubai Festival City will incorporate their fountains into a dazzling light and sound show themed on Expo 2020, while The Frame façade will be lit up in Expo colours. The flags of participating countries will also be displayed at each, with booths on the ground for purchasing Expo 2020 tickets.

The roster of streaming locations for the Opening Ceremony includes more than 240 hotels nation-wide, including Emaar’s Rove, Armani, Address Hotels & Resorts, and Vida Hotels & Resorts, as well as Accor, Marriot, Hilton, IHG, Rotana, Jumeirah, Hyatt International and Atlantis The Palm.

In addition, 17 Majid Al Futtaim malls, plus City Walk, Nakheel Mall and Ibn Battuta Mall, as well as 50 Jashanmal locations across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, 97 Mediclinics, Dubai and Abu Dhabi International Airports and Zabeel Ladies Club and Sharaf DG will also stream the experience.

Expo 2020 Partners are also offering their invaluable support, with many, including Dulsco, Terminus Group, L’Oreal and Nissan, hosting Opening Ceremony viewing parties for their staff. Emirates, the Official Airline Partner of Expo 2020 Dubai, will also stream proceedings across its first and business class lounges, both local and international.

Adding to the evening’s magic, viewings are taking place at various locations in Umm Al Quwain, Yas Plaza in Abu Dhabi and across various locations in Ras Al Khaimah, including the Corniche, Al Marjan Island and Manar Mall. Ajman Heritage District and Fujairah Fort will also host a live broadcast, the latter accompanied by an evening of other festivities that include a mini village, folklore bands, traditional crafts, heritage displays and traditional food.

Free bus rides for Expo visitors from 9 locations

77 buses were deployed to lift visitors from 9 location across the UAE…reports Asian Lite News

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the provision of free bus rides to visitors of Expo 2020 aboard Expo Riders buses from 9 locations in the UAE. These include three in Abu Dhabi, two in Sharjah and one location in each of Ajman, Ras Al Khaima, Fujairah and Al Ain.

RTA deployed 203 Expo Riders dbses to serve and transport visitors to the exhibition from 18 stations, with 9 of them in Dubai in addition to two Routes to lift visitors directly from hotels to the site of Expo, and 9 stations across the UAE.

77 buses were deployed to lift visitors from 9 location across the UAE. The three stations in Abu Dhabi city are: Abu Dhabi International Airport, Abu Dhabi Main Bus Station, Marina Mall Station in addition to one station at Al Ain (Al Ain Bus Station).

There are two stations in Sharjah: Al Jubail Bus Station and Muwaileh Bus station in addition to Ras Al Khaima Bus Station, Ajman Bus Station, and Fujairah Bus Station (near City Centre Fujairah). There will be 287 trips per day during weekdays, rising to 358 trips during the weekends (Thursday and Friday).

RTA had previously designated 126 Expo Riders buses to transport visitors for free directly from 9 stations, stops between Dubai and Expo namely Palm Jumeirah, Al Baraha, Al Ghubaiba, Etisalat, Global Village, International City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Mall and Dubai International Airport (Terminal 3) with 455 to 476 daily journeys.

It will also provide commuter service between the parking area to the three Expo Gates: (Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability) as well as  Expo People Mover to transport visitors between the Expo Gates.

Service Hours

Expo Riders will operate from 06:30 am and continue service for 90 minutes after the closure of Expo Gates. Passenger commuting service from the parking area (Expo Parking Shuttle) to the three Expo Gates will start at 09:00 am and continue for 90 minutes after the closure of Expo Gates.

Bus Service between Expo Gates (Expo People Mover) will start service at 06:30 am and continue service 90 minutes after the closure of Expo Gates. Taxi and e-hail services will be running around the clock.

DEWA ready to deal with emergencies during Expo

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is ready to deal with any emergency during Expo 2020 Dubai, according to Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of the authority, noting that DEWA has proactive plans to swiftly respond to any crisis.

DEWA completes its Expo pavilion in Sustainability District

Al Tayer made these statements as he inspected DEWA’s Crisis and Emergency Centre to check their preparations and ensure the readiness of the relevant teams to respond to emergencies during Expo 2020 Dubai.

“DEWA is collaborating with the concerned authorities and teams at the Government of Dubai to deal with unexpected emergencies during the Expo 2020 Dubai using the latest smart systems,” said Al Tayer.

Al Tayer said that DEWA has the latest smart systems for managing the infrastructure of electricity and water networks at the Expo. This ensures it provides electricity services according to the highest standards of availability, reliability, and efficiency.

DEWA also has highly qualified and trained technical teams dealing with different emergencies competently and efficiently. Additionally, DEWA provides mobile generators that can be connected to the electricity grid at Expo 2020 Dubai in case of emergencies.

Registration open for Expo 2020 Dubai Run

Hussein Lootah, EVP of Transmission Power, and Chairman of the Contingencies & Crises Committee at DEWA said that the organisation had conducted several mock drills for different scenarios in collaboration with the concerned authorities.

These aimed to assess the efficiency of DEWA’s plans to respond swiftly to emergencies according to the best international practices and the standards of the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA).

India Pavilion Ready For Grand Showcasing At Expo

As India celebrates 75 years of its independence, the India Pavilion will also mirror the celebrations of Amrut Mahotsav, reports Asian Lite News

India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal will inaugurate the country’s pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai on Thursday. The Pavilion, which is the largest at Expo, will display the emergence of a New India.

Coinciding with India’s celebrations of Amrut Mahotsav, 75 years of Independence, Expo 2020 will be a significant platform for India to showcase its vibrant culture and tremendous growth opportunities.

Goyal told ANI, “Dubai Expo 2020 is an important event. The UAE has given the most important place to India as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Crown Prince share a good relation. We will have a high-level task force meeting with their senior ministers. It will further strengthen the India-UAE relation and exports.”

Among the 192 participating countries, India will have the biggest pavilion in the expo. Fifteen states and nine central ministries from India are participating in this six-month-long expo, which will be ending on March 31, 2022.

Gujarat will be the first state to showcase its product in India Pavilion followed by Karnataka, Ladakh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. These states will exhibit their culture, food and business opportunities.

Central ministries like Ministry of AYUSH, Ministry of Tourism, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Department of Space, Ministry of Renewable Energy, Department of Pharmaceuticals and Ministry of Textiles are also among the various ministries and departments participating in the event.

A large number of Indian conglomerates and global companies will also be part of the expo including — Tata Group, Reliance, Adani, Vedanta, Hinduja Group, L&T, along with UAE based majors such as Lulu group, KEF Holdings, Aster, Malabar Gold and IFFCO.

In addition, several other organisations such as Hindustan Unilever Limited, PepsiCo, HSBC, ITC, Facebook, EaseMyTrip, Oyo, Standard Chartered Bank, Trident Group, Baidyanath, Apollo Hospital, Sun International, MIKO, Daawat Rice, Bank of Baroda, Patanjali, Dabur, BLS International, Petrochem, Nikai, Al Dobowi, Shycocan, NPCI, Jagran Lake City University, Air India and ICICI Bank will also participate in the megaevent.

A large number of Memorandums of Understanding are expected to be signed during the course of six months.

Meanwhile, India Pavilion will also feature an innovative kinetic facade made up of 600 individual colourful blocks. It is developed as a mosaic of rotating panels that will depict different themes as they rotate on their axis. The installation represents the theme of ‘India on the move’ and is a unique amalgam of the rich heritage and technological advances of the nation.

As India celebrates 75 years of its independence, the India Pavilion will also mirror the celebrations of Amrit Mahotsav, which was launched by the Prime Minister of India, and will bring to the world the New India through many activities and cultural extravaganzas.

The entire four-storey structure of the India Pavilion is divided into two parts. The zones are identified based on 11 primary themes — Climate and Biodiversity, Space, Urban and Rural Development, Tolerance and Inclusivity, Golden Jubilee, Knowledge and Learning, Travel and Connectivity, Global Goals, Health and Wellness, Food Agriculture and Livelihoods and Water.

Indian festivals like Diwali and Dussehra will be celebrated in a colossal way in India Pavilion.

People who are visiting to witness the gala will have to get entry passes. There are three categories of entry passes. The October Pass, which will give daily access for the entire month of October, and can be purchased for Rs 2,019 or AED 95. The Season Pass is priced at Rs 10,525 or AED 495 and the Multi-Day Pass is will cost Rs 4,146 or AED 195 with free entry for kids and youth under 18, tertiary and higher education students, seniors of 60 years and above. Dubai Airshow 2021 is set to host pitch competitions in partnership with major local and global aerospace entities, including Etihad Airways, Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Boeing Applied Innovation. The partnerships aim to provide disruptive startups with an opportunity to showcase their innovative technologies and creative ideas, in support of initiatives launched by the aerospace entities.

Saudi’s major aerospace to be a part of Dubai Airshow 2021

The VISTA pitch competitions will run across three categories covering areas that are key for the continued growth of the industry: sustainability, space, and innovation. Startups will be offered the opportunity to present their solutions to the aerospace ecosystem, tech leaders and investors, across two days of live pitches, in a bid to work with the industry’s leaders.

The sustainability challenge, held in conjunction with Etihad Airways, targets startups who can provide solutions that can lead to the reduction of indirect emissions, which occur throughout the entire supply chain of Etihad Airway’s ground and air operations, including cargo. The winner will be given an exclusive opportunity to pilot their idea live on Etihad’s Ecoflights plus 3 return business class tickets to any destination served by the Etihad Greenliner.

The space challenge held in conjunction with MBRSC and AWS, invites startups to develop an end-to-end deep learning or machine learning model to automatically detect all the palm trees from RGB aerial imagery, with efficient computational time. The winners of the space challenge will be given AWS credits starting from the value of $2,500 up to $25,000! In addition, the VISTA Innovation Cup, invites ground-breaking startups from across the globe to pitch their product or solution to have a chance to win the title of the most Innovative Startup at Vista 2021.

Winners of the Voices of Future Generations awarded in Dubai

The 2021 winners of the Middle East edition of the Voices of Future Generations, the inspiring global writing competition for children, were announced at an award ceremony at the Zabeel Ladies Club, Dubai.

The unique writing initiative, launched under the patronage of UNESCO in 2015 and brought to the Middle East in 2019, was created to promote sustainability awareness and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The regional competition is organised by the Emirates Literature Foundation on behalf of HH Sheikha Hissa bint Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Goodwill Ambassador for the initiative for the Middle East Region, who commented: “I am so glad to see how this competition has helped so many children understand the impact we have on our planet and how it has inspired them to creatively find solutions for our environment through sustainable development goals.”

The initiative’s sister organisation Roots & Shoots UAE congratulated the children, with its Goodwill Ambassador for the region, HH Sheikha Maytha bint Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum saying: “Caring for our planet is the most important task for future generations. Initiatives like ours are designed to help them begin that process and instil in the children the knowledge that they can make a difference.”

Children and their parents and teachers were delighted with a surprise greeting from the world’s leading primatologist, Dr Jane Goodall, the founder of Roots & Shoots, as well as World Slam Poetry Champion Harry Baker, who performed a new poem about the Sustainable Development Goals together with Emirati slam poetry favourite, Dr Afra Atiq.

The competition, for children aged 8 to 12, encourages children to write adventure stories about characters overcoming challenges and creating a more tolerant, sustainable world. The best entries are published in a book in Arabic and English and shared internationally. More than 900 entries were received in the 2021 round of the competition, a year-on-year increase of 50 per cent.

New for this year is The Gifted Writers’ Programme, a talent development programme in which the judges identify up to 50 strong writers from the submissions, who will be offered extra coaching from professional editors and the option to resubmit their stories in the coming cycle.

The competition is open to children aged 8-12, writing for children aged 6 and above. All entries must be between 600-1,500 words long, in Arabic or English. The stories should feature one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals, and the writer’s hopes, dreams or aspirations for a sustainable future. Entries are open to all children resident in the Gulf region and in full-time education, including those home schooling. Registrations for the third year are now open and the competition will close in the first half of 2022.

Emirates Steel has announced that it supplied more than 60 percent of the Expo 2020 Dubai rebar needed to build the central dome ‘Al Wasl Plaza’, pedestrian bridges, parks, roads, corridors, and the underpass linking Al Maktoum International Airport to the Expo 2020 site and more.

Additionally, Emirates Steel also supplied 35,000 metric tonnes of its high-quality sections and sheet piles for the construction of multiple pavilions at Expo 2020.

Located in the Sustainability District, the Netherlands pavilion offers a unique state-of-the-art system integrating water, energy, and food. The three elements are harvested in a cone-shaped vertical farm district.

Emirates Steel is the largest producer of heavy and jumbo sections and the only producer of hot-rolled sheet piles in the region. The company is the fourth steelmaker in the world to receive the ASME accreditation to produce nuclear grade rebar.

The Abu Dhabi-based steelmaker is the first manufacturing company in the Middle East and among the first 50 companies in the world to be verified for (LEED) green building system documentation.

As Dubai further consolidates its strategic partnerships in the domestic and international markets in the post-pandemic period, Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism) has highlighted the pivotal role played by global hospitality partners in accelerating the city’s tourism recovery.

At a meeting with the General Managers of Marriott International hotels in Dubai, Issam Kazim, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Tourism referred to the critical support provided by Marriott in showcasing the city as a safe must-visit destination, further instilling confidence among global travellers.

During the meeting, Mr. Kazim recapped the efforts made by stakeholders and partners like Marriott International to help bring about industry stabilisation, and also shared a positive industry overview underlined by the steady growth in international visitation and high occupancy levels in the first seven months of 2021. He highlighted the fact that Dubai was ranked second globally ahead of London and Paris in terms of hotel occupancy with hotels enjoying 61% average occupancy levels from January – July 2021.

Mr. Kazim also emphasised the importance of leveraging all efforts to attract more international visitors, especially benefiting from the Expo 2020 Dubai and the UAE Golden Jubilee celebrations. Dubai Tourism welcome continued support of Global hospitality partners

Dubai was one of the first cities globally to reopen its markets and businesses, and continues to stay open. This was achieved through a prudent and staggered approach to the reopening of sectors while ensuring strict compliance with globally benchmarked health and safety protocols. The UAE also has one of the world’s highest per capita vaccination rates.

Participants at the meeting were also provided a brief overview of the marketing initiatives launched by Dubai Tourism in international markets including the latest global campaign, Dubai Presents featuring Hollywood stars Jessica Alba and Zac Efron, which was screened at the meeting. Following the launch of the first two cinematic trailers, Spy Action and RomCom, the campaign generated over 200 million views.

Emirates unveils new Expo livery on A380 aircraft

The new A380 livery was designed, painted, produced and installed in-house by the teams at Emirates…reports Asian Lite News

Emirates, the Premier Partner and Official Airline of Expo 2020 Dubai, has revealed a head-turning A380 livery dedicated to further carrying the global event’s messages worldwide.

A bold departure from the airline’s traditional white and gold paint scheme, this bright blue aircraft livery features large-scale graphics in vivid green, orange, pink, purple and red, which run across the fuselage and all the way up to the tail and fin interlaced with the distinct ring-shaped Expo 2020 Dubai logo.

Special ‘Dubai Expo’ and ‘Be Part of the Magic’ messages run across both sides of the A380 fuselage. The engine cowls also carry the Expo 2020 Dubai messages and dates of the event.

In addition, the brave Burj Khalifa stuntwoman who appeared in the recent viral Emirates ad, carries an invitation to visit the event on both sides of the aircraft, holding a message board that says: ‘See you there’ and ‘Dubai Expo Oct-Mar 2022’.

The iconic Emirates red belly branding, which can be only seen when the aircraft is flying overhead, has been replaced by the opportunity themed orange ‘Dubai Expo’ branding, further increasing the event’s visibility and awareness as it flies to the airline’s A380 network over the course of the next 6 months.

The new A380 livery was designed, painted, produced and installed in-house by the teams at Emirates. The livery was not just a decal, but a complete paint project, and is by far the largest one the airline has ever embarked on. A great deal of planning and ingenuity was involved to ensure the distinct livery design was brought to life and flawlessly executed.

The new Expo 2020 Dubai livery will appear on three Emirates A380 aircraft to help visually tell the story and reaffirm the themes of one of the largest global events to take place since the onset of the pandemic. The distinctive blue Expo aircraft will join the 40 other special liveries dedicated to Expo 2020 Dubai, which have collectively flown to over 130 destinations across the Emirates network since 2018.

The new livery will wow travellers and drive the Expo 2020 Dubai message when it heads to Los Angeles on 29 September.

49 IT firms from Kerala to participate in Dubai GITEX

A majority of the IT companies are from the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram, while the rest are from the IT parks in Kochi and Kozhikode…reports Asian Lite News

As many as 49 Kerala-based IT companies and startups will take part in GITEX Global, the annual technology event to be held in Dubai next month.

Besides this, 19 startups from the Kerala Startup Mission will also participate in the event.

A majority of the IT companies are from the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram, while the rest are from the IT parks in Kochi and Kozhikode.

Kerala IT Parks CEO John M. Thomas said that the state will organise a special business-to-business meet for expatriate industrialists and entrepreneurs to explore global market opportunities as the Middle East region is also a major market for IT companies from Kerala.

GITEX is a major technology event which showcases the latest technologies and innovative ideas in Artificial Intelligence, Cloud, big data, cyber security, block chain, quantum computing etc., which will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from October 17 to 21.
