Red Arrows to represent the UK at Expo 2020

The Red Arrows, the world famous aerobatic display team, will represent the UK at Expo 2020 Dubai with their latest spectacular 20 minute display and flyby to celebrate the first week of the event with visitors.

At 4pm on 8th October, the Red Arrows will take flight and provide visitors to Expo from around the world a stunning display of their exceptional flying in their 57th season. They will inspire people of all ages and backgrounds with a display of astonishing precision and teamwork.

It is part of a wider visit to the UAE, to help celebrate the UAE’s 50th anniversary and to look forward to the next 50, which will also include a display at Abu Dhabi’s Corniche at 4.30pm on 5th October.

In Dubai, the performance will support the UK’s wider role at the Expo and highlight the exciting programme of events and exhibitions taking place at the UK Pavilion throughout the Expo itself. Before the display, engineers and pilots will support a STEM engagement event to showcase the mixture of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths that are involved in servicing the aircraft on the ground and flying them with such precision. Following the display, team pilots will also be appearing at the UK Pavilion to meet the public.

Registration open for Expo 2020 Dubai Run

An once-in-a-lifetime opportunity awaits UAE’s enthusiastic running community on 19th November as the Expo 2020 Dubai Run takes them on a scenic route through the Expo site, past 192 awe-inspiring pavilions.

Registration is now open now through the PremierOnline website and will close on 11th November, or sooner if places sell out.

Supported by Expo 2020 Dubai and Dubai Sports Council, the Expo 2020 Dubai Run is open to residents and visitors of all age and nationalities, including participants in strollers, and participants can choose from three distances – 3km, 5km and 10km.

Participants in the three categories will be divided into different age groups, with four age groups available in the 3km run: 0-8 years, 9-12 years, 13-18 years and 19-plus; eight in the 5km: Under-13, 13-15, 16-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60-plus; and six in the 10km: U-19, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-plus.

To get in top shape for the event on 19th November, participants can take part in four, free-of-cost ‘The World Family Run’, which is also open to participants of all age and nationality and offers a family-friendly 1.3km run through Ghaf Avenue.

The World Family Run, which is supported by Dubai Sports Council, takes place every Saturday from 9th to 30th October, and those interested can register through the PremierOnline website.

Dubai Sports Council, in association with AIS Athletics, has also organised a series of free-of-cost morning and evening training sessions throughout the month of October, delivered by experienced middle and long distance coaches. Open to participants of all age and abilities, the Expo Running Club will also take place at the Expo Park from 3rd to 6th October, 10th to 13th October, 17th to 20th October, and 24th to 27th October.

Dubai Sports Council, along with its partners, has planned a number of other events including the 16th Dubai International Sports Conference (DISC), a Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiative, which will take place alongside Dubai Globe Soccer Awards in the last week of December; the FIDE World Chess Championship 2021 that will see reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen battle challenger Ian Nepomniachtchi, between 24th November and 16th December; and the Hamdan Bin Rashid Masters International Chess Championship will be held concurrently.

Dubai International Sports Conference, one of football’s main brainstorming platforms, has been bringing football’s top stakeholders together to Dubai since 2006 for extensive discussions on challenges facing the ever-evolving world of football, while finding ways to develop and enrich the sport at the domestic, regional and international level.

Since its launch, the Conference has welcomed more than 400 international and national speakers and moderators, including some of the biggest names in football like FIFA President His Excellency Gianni Infantino, Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, Argentine magician Lionel Messi, and French legend Zinedine Zidane, and the late Argentine legend Diego Maradona.

The Council has also confirmed that the awards ceremony of the prestigious 11th Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award will take place on 9th January, 2022.

The 11th edition of the Award will see Emirati and Arab heroes from the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games being honoured at the glittering ceremony.

Dubai will also be hosting more than 30 international sports events during the Expo 2020 Dubai period, across the Emirate, including the men’s and women’s Rugby World Cup qualifiers in October and November, and cricket’s Twenty20 World Cup, which will feature 16 nations and take place between 17th October and 14th November.

Dubai Govt employees receive special paid leave to visit Expo 2020

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, today issued directives to grant Dubai Government employees a special paid leave that will enable them to visit Expo 2020 Dubai. The six-day leave can be used during the period of Expo 2020, which runs from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022, under the theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”.

The leave was granted in order to give employees the opportunity to visit the exhibition with their families and explore the various global solutions and innovations on display.

Dubai Chamber highlights untapped biz potential in W Africa

Dubai Chamber has announced the launch of “Why Africa”, a new initiative highlighting untapped business potential in West Africa, as well as the region’s key economic indicators and competitive advantages.

The initiative comprises in-depth analyses conducted by Dubai Chamber and based on recent data from UNCTAD, up-to-date insights for prospective investors and recent trade trends.

The initiative was launched in the lead up to the Global Business Forum (GBF) Africa 2021, which will take place between 13th-14th October, on the side-lines of Expo 2020 Dubai.

HAMAD BUAMIN, PRESIDENT AND CEO, DUBAI CHAMBER: “Africa is one of the world’s most promising regions for economic growth, which is featured prominently on many global indicators in recent years as one to watch out for. Market research is essential for UAE investors who are studying the possibility of expanding their businesses into key African countries. Dubai Chamber’s ‘Why Africa?’ initiative seeks to provide such insights that can help them make a more informed business decision.”

He added that the initiative serves as a reference point for UAE businessmen to evaluate opportunities across various economic sectors. Such prospects will be in the spotlight at the upcoming GBF Africa in Dubai, where industry players and key decision makers can offer an insider’s perspective.

Buamim described “Why Africa?” and the forthcoming GBF Africa as “important channels that can be leveraged to boost Dubai-Africa trade and investment flows in the coming years.”

Among the key data areas covered by the initiative are: population, GDP, FDI and trade trends.

Home to 412.4 million people (as per 2021 estimates), West Africa is Africa’s second most populous region and comprises sixteen countries: Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali, Guinea, Benin, Togo, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mauritania, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Cabo Verde, and Saint Helena. It is also one of the most economically vital, accounting for 29 percent of Africa’s economy.

Sub-Sahara Africa is Dubai’s largest trading partner out of all African regions. In 2020, West Africa accounted for 33.2 percent of the emirate’s trade with Africa, with a total trade value of US$16.8bn (AED61.7bn), making up approximately 75 percent of the region’s overall trade. It is the continent’s second-largest region in terms of total real GDP, with average GDP value nearing the $709.2 billion mark.

GBF Africa 2021 is being hosted at the Dubai Exhibition Centre at Expo 2020 Dubai under the theme “Transformation Through Trade” with the forum bringing the trade and investment community together to explore bilateral trade opportunities between Dubai and sub-Saharan Africa.

12.6k tons of goods valued Dh948m cleared for EXPO

Dubai Customs revealed the facilities and preferential services it dedicates to exhibitors and visitors of EXPO 2020 Dubai, which kicks off on 1st October…reports Asian Lite News

With EXPO2020 Dubai around the corner, Dubai Customs announced they completed 1,432 customs declarations for EXPO goods, with 12,600 tonnes of goods, that has a value of AED948 million, cleared especially for the grand event.

Dubai Customs revealed the facilities and preferential services it dedicates to exhibitors and visitors of EXPO 2020 Dubai, which kicks off on 1st October. These include online registration and submission of customs declarations and approval of electronic documents without the need to visit the customs centres.

Exhibitors to obtain permits and licenses can use Dubai Trade Portal. Countries participating in EXPO 2020 are exempted of registration fees, and exhibitors’ documents will have unique codes for preferential and speedy clearance.

Dubai Customs clinched the award of government authorities supporting Expo 2020 for implementing an integrated initiative to sustain the use of the resources of Expo 2020 for future phase.

In the same line, Ibrahim Kamali, Director of Passenger Operations Department said; “All employees at the Passenger Operations Department (864 employees) are fully prepared to serve the exhibition, including 447 inspection officers who will work on 24 hour rotating shifts.

A training programme was organised for the inspectors in cooperation with Dubai Airports to prepare them to receive and host visitors and respond to their enquiries including timings, tickets, venue, pavilions, etc. All visitors who have invitations will have a faster path, and the same applies to people of determination. The latest enhancements to the iDeclare App will help passengers declare their financial belongings easily, even without a need for internet connection.”

Fifteen Indian states and union territories to part of Expo 2020

Fifteen Indian states and union territories have confirmed their participation at the India Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, according to a press release from the authorities in charge of the Pavilion issued here

These states and union territories will take part in the world exposition along with their delegations for planned business-to-government and government-to-government meetings, according to the organizers of the events at the Pavilion.

“These states will exhibit their culture, food and business opportunities at the India Pavilion,” the press release said.

In addition, nine ministries and departments of the Indian federal government will take part in Expo 2020 Dubai via the India Pavilion. Business houses which form the vanguard of Indian industry, several Indian-owned enterprises in the UAE and global conglomerates with large operations in India will also actively participate in the activities at the India Pavilion through their presence.

“Showcasing India’s innovation potential and capabilities, an ‘Indian Innovation Hub’ has been developed to offer a platform for budding innovators and startups to showcase their capabilities.”

Manchester City has unveiled Expo 2020 Dubai as the Club’s new Training Kit Partner ahead of the opening of the global event this Friday. Expo 2020 branding will appear on City’s men’s and women’s training kits for the 2021/22 season.

Manchester City will host daily football sessions at the Expo site, led by dedicated City coaching staff who will apply the same training methodology used by the teams on the training pitches in Manchester. In addition to the training kit, Expo 2020 branding will also appear across the Etihad Stadium and City Football Academy training facilities, as well as featuring on City’s content and digital platforms. Hamdan reviews progress of the Dubai Schools project

His Highness reviewed the education processes of Dubai Schools, a project that he launched in March 2021 to create a new Emirati schooling model that provides a global standard of education rooted in national values.

The opening of Dubai Schools in Mirdif and Al Barsha, in partnership with Taaleem Company, formed part of the first of many phases of the Dubai Schools project. In August, HH Sheikh Hamdan issued directives to increase the number of students enrolled in Dubai Schools by 50%. The initial enrollment target of 800 students for the 2021-22 academic year has been increased to 1,200.

The project aims to build government-sponsored schools that are operated by the private sector according to global standards. Dubai Schools will ensure both Emirati students and students of other nationalities will have access to modern education in science and technology at an affordable cost. Through public-private partnerships, Dubai Schools seeks to enhance the emirate’s rise as an educational destination.
