Emirates ID replaces residency stickers for expats

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security has announced the suspension of the issuance of the residence sticker for foreigners residing in the UAE as of April 11, 2022…reports Asian Lite News

The goal is to develop services provided to customers and enhance their happiness. The Emirates ID card issued to foreigners residing in the UAE will serve as an alternative to prove their residence.

The Authority pointed out that the cancellation decision came in implementation of the decision of the UAE Cabinet in support of the development of the services provided and the application of best practices and in order to achieve flexibility that aims to reduce the steps associated with the process of issuing and renewing the residence.

The residence and the identity card applications will be joined together in a new unified form that includes the issuance and renewal of the residence and identity card services in one application, instead of the previous separate applications, with the aim of improving and developing processes related to the customers’ journey, in embodiment of the UAE’s vision to provide world-class and high-quality services enhanced by technology.

The Authority also indicated that its smart application provides the possibility to obtain the electronic copy of the identity card in support of the flexibility of use upon request, stressing that the new generation of the Emirates ID card issued to foreigners residing in the UAE includes all the details mentioned previously in the residence sticker, which enhances the added value for the uses of the ID card in proving the personal identity of individuals through the presence of personal and professional data, the issuing entity and other readable data on the surface of the card and the implicit details enhanced through electronic linking techniques.

In detail, Major General Saeed Rakan Al Rashidi, Acting Director General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, said that the decision to stop issuing residence stickers and adopting the Emirates ID card issued to a foreigner residing in the UAE to prove residency comes as an extension of the package of supporting decisions towards providing the best facilities to customers and raising the level of government services, noting that the previous model of the residence sticker will be available electronically only through the Authority’s smart application.

This step aims to enhance transitional flexibility towards using the identity card as an alternative during this period.

He also explained that the Authority has strengthened work with the relevant authorities at the aviation sector to enable holders of valid residence permits as well as visitors who are outside the UAE to come to the country, after verifying that entry criteria are met through the use of the passport reader available at the platforms of companies operating in the air transport sector at airports.

Al Rashidi confirmed that the Authority has developed all the necessary technical facilities to obtain individuals’ residency details through a printed form that can be applied for with the Authority’s stamp, through individuals’ accounts using the Authority’s application or through the smart services system via the website www.icp.gov.ae, which allows the possibility of printing the residence details form in just 3 steps.

Al Rashidi also added that the entry into force of the decision will stop the service of receiving and handing over a resident’s passport previously designated for the installation of the residence sticker. This allows achieving a complete smart transformation of the Authority’s residency services, which enhances the happiness of customers and adds qualitative flexibility in the issuance and renewal processes.

Hope Probe marks first anniversary

The Probe’s arrival at Mars orbit marked a historic achievement for the Emirates and the Arab world and has resulted in unique and challenging observations of the Red Planet, reports Asian Lite Newsdesk

The Emirates Mars Mission (EMM), the first Arab interplanetary mission, today celebrates the first anniversary of its successful entry into Mars’ orbit and the gathering of a unique trove of Mars observations by the Hope Probe. One year on, the autonomous spacecraft has achieved historic milestones as part of its mandate to expand our understanding of the Martian planet.

The Hope Probe successfully reached Mars’ orbit at 19:42 on 9 February, 2021, completing one of the most complex and intricate stages of its mission, after a 493 million kilometre, 7-month journey through space.

“Tuesday 9 February 2021 has become an historic occasion for the UAE, marking a unique achievement for our young nation,” said Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Technology and Chairwoman of the UAE Space Agency. “The Hope Probe is an inspiring success story for the youth of the UAE and the Arab world in general and comes as the culmination of a multinational effort to drive the development of our space sector, contribute to our growing space sector and bring new insights into our human understanding of our nearest planetary neighbour – Mars.”

(wam)

Salem Butti Salem Al Qubaisi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency, said the day marks a defining moment in the history of the national space sector. “The achievements open up broad prospects for the development and prosperity of the national space sector aimed at boosting its contribution to the UAE’s GDP – as it is one of the most prominent sectors of the future economy based on innovation and knowledge.”

Eng. Omran Sharaf, Director of the Emirates Mars Mission (Hope Probe), said the Probe has registered numerous scientific achievements by observing previously-unknown phenomena. It will continue its scientific mission, which aims to provide the first comprehensive picture of the Red Planet’s climate and atmosphere, benefiting from its unique 25-degree elliptical orbit, which enables it to collect data and high-resolution images of the planet’s atmosphere every 225 hours, or 9.5 days.

170 rotations around Mars

Since its arrival, Hope Probe has circled the Red Planet over 170 times, at a rate of one cycle every 55 hours. So far, the data captured by Hope Probe has been made available in two tranches, with a commitment to continue publishing and making new batches available every three months.

The first two batches of scientific data were published in October and January respectively. The first batch, included scientific data gathered during 9 February to 22 May and totaled 110 GB. Almost 2 terabytes (TB) of data has been downloaded from the Emirates Mars Mission Science Data Centre, including 1.5TB in the form of data from the Emirates Exploration Imager (EXI) camera .

Unprecedented scientific observations

The Hope Probe has made a number of key new observations of Martian atmospheric phenomena, including the elusive discrete aurora on Mars’ nightside, remarkable concentrations of oxygen and carbon monoxide and never-before seen images of Martian dust storms as they billow across the planetary surface.

Cloudy day on Mars:The Probe captured an image on 16 March, 2021, of particular interest to the scientific community. At the time, the spacecraft was orbiting approximately 1,366km above Mars. The image scale at center is about 148 m/pixel (note 50 km scale bar) and it covered the heavily cratered region known as “Arabia Terra” (image center is at 0.8 N latitude, 43.8 E longitude, and North is toward the top).

The western (left) half of this scene shows a dramatic occurrence of Martian water-ice clouds. Similar to cirrus clouds on Earth, these clouds form when water vapour in the Martian atmosphere freezes into tiny ice particles. The complex structure of these clouds is largely due to interactions between winds and the surface.

Foggy craters: On 15 March, 2021, the EXI camera captured multispectral images of this oblique view of the heavily cratered region known as Arabia Terra.

Images of the fully illuminated hemisphere: On 15 September 2021 the EXI camera system onboard the EMM mission obtained a set of multispectral images of the fully illuminated hemisphere of Mars.

Huge dust storms: On 5 January, 2022, the EXI camera system onboard the EMM mission obtained the half-illuminated view of Mars the sun was just setting near the center of the disk.

The Hope Probe is scheduled to continue its scientific mission to explore Mars until the middle of 2023, with the possibility of extending it for an additional Martian year (two Earth years).

Emirates Health Services expands smart services network

Emirates Health Services announced three new launches under the ‘Innovative Treatment Services’ section of its programme at the exhibition…reports Asian Lite News

Emirates Health Services (EHS) has entered its third day of launching game-changing, hi-tech, and AI-powered health projects at Arab Health 2022, announcing three new launches under the ‘Innovative Treatment Services’ section of its programme at the exhibition.

The three new projects are: Cardio-technology Services, which uses the ‘vascular closure device’ for the first time in the Middle East; the virtual 3D maxillofacial surgery planning programme; and artificial-intelligence-powered voice identification technology.

They form part of EHS’s plans for the healthcare sector and align with its ambition to spearhead the transformation of the health welfare system, providing a new bundle of AI-powered and 3D virtual reality services. This, in turn, serves to boost the UAE’s leadership in the health sector and cement its position on the global health map.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Naqbi, Acting Executive Director of the Supportive Health Services Sector at Emirates Health Services (EHS), said: “Emirates Health Services’ growing dedication to projects that rely on artificial intelligence and advanced technology is part of our efforts to upgrade healthcare services, capitalising on the speed and accuracy of the diagnoses these technologies provide, all while ensuring high-standard healthcare, promoting medical research, ensuring rapid response to health crises and disease outbreaks, and advancing the overall healthcare scene.”

The ‘Heart Services Project’ is one of the leading technologies EHS has pioneered; it consists of an advanced and innovative technique whereby a pulsating device is implanted in the coronary sinus of the heart in order to reduce the impact of heart attacks and strengthen the heart muscle after an acute heart attack, which is the main cause of cardiac muscle failure.

Al Qassimi Hospital is the first healthcare provider in the country and the Middle East to use the ‘vascular closure device’ (Manata), to close openings and cavities after performing catheterisation surgery. The device uses a type of collagen to close open artery that was used to perform the catheterization.

The second project – ‘Dental Services’ – relies on advanced technology to provide virtual 3D maxillofacial and dental surgical planning. It is considered one of the most efficient methods used around the world to plan cosmetic and complex surgical cases.

The programme uses accurate data to plan surgical procedures and effective design, and is the first programme of its kind in the world to have succeeded in planning and implementing virtual solutions for patients on a single platform. It also reduces the duration of operations compared to traditional surgical planning.

The third and final project, ‘AI-Powered Voice Identification Technology’, allows physicians and healthcare providers of all specialties to create, review, modify, and place clinical notes within digital health records using direct speech. The technology also contributes to standardising and accelerating clinical documentation processes.

Emirates cleared to resume all US operations

From 21 January, the airline will reinstate its Boeing 777 operations to Chicago, Dallas Fort Worth, Miami, Newark, Orlando and Seattle…reports Asian Lite News

As a result of telecommunication operators delaying the roll-out of 5G networks around US airports, the US Federal Aviation Administration and Boeing have issued formal notifications that lift the previous restriction on aircraft operations, enabling Emirates to safely restore full scheduled operations to all its US destinations by Saturday.

From 21 January, the airline will reinstate its Boeing 777 operations to Chicago, Dallas Fort Worth, Miami, Newark, Orlando and Seattle.

Emirates services to Los Angeles, New York JFK, and Washington DC remain unimpacted. Flights to Boston, Houston and San Francisco, on which the airline had temporarily deployed A380 aircraft on 20 and 21 January, will return to Boeing 777 operations on Saturday 22 January.

The airline also operates Boeing 777 freighter aircraft to Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Columbus and Aguadilla, carrying exports and essential cargo such as food and life-saving medicines and pharmaceuticals.

Earlier this week, Emirates suspended its services to some US destinations based on the FAA advisory and Boeing recommendations on possible interference between the 5G antennas and aircraft systems, as safety of operations is the top priority.

Sir Tim Clark, President Emirates Airline said: “We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers by the temporary suspension of flights to some of our US destinations. Safety will always be our top priority, and we will never gamble on this front. We welcome the latest development which enables us to resume essential transport links to the US to serve travellers and cargo shippers. However, we are also very aware that this is a temporary reprieve, and a long-term resolution would be required. Emirates will continue to work closely with the aircraft manufacturers and relevant regulators to ensure the safety and continuity of our services.”

“We’d like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding, and express appreciation to our teams and partners who have worked round the clock to minimise impact on customers and help us return to service quickly.”
