Morocco celebrates National Day at Expo

Morocco celebrated its National Day at Expo 2020 on Sunday with a visit by Aziz Akhannouch, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Morocco, an impressive aerobatic display by the Green March Moroccan Patrol, and a performance by one of the nation’s most eminent pianists, Marouan Benabdallah.

Aziz Akhannouch, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Morocco, accompanied by Nadia Fettah Alaoui, Minister of Economy and Finance in Morocco, was welcomed by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, and Chairman of the Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee, and Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology.

Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch said: “I am sincerely grateful for the warm reception accorded to the Moroccan delegation, and I congratulate the United Arab Emirates for their wonderful organisation of this World Expo. Our presence at Expo 2020 Dubai allows us to introduce our ancient heritage, plus our tourism, cultural and scientific achievements to the world.

“Morocco’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai showcases the Kingdom’s commitment to actively contribute to an enriching dialogue at both regional and international levels for a safer and more stable future for all, while our pavilion is a platform to announce our new identity, ‘Morocco Now’, highlighting Morocco’s investment and industrial opportunities, particularly for foreign investment.”

Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber welcomed Aziz Akhannouch to the UAE and to Expo 2020 Dubai.

He said that celebrating Morocco’s National Day at Expo 2020 Dubai reflects the strong relations between the two brotherly countries, the foundation of which was laid by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the late King Al Hassan II.

He added that, thanks to the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and the keen following up of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and King Mohammed VI, relations between the two countries are confidently heading towards a brighter future of political, economic, cultural and social cooperation.

said: “We share with the Kingdom of Morocco a common history, strong relations, as well as a common framework and active presence in the Arab and Islamic Worlds; which all serve as a strong base to expand partnerships and constructive collaboration for the benefit of our nations.”

“The UAE continues to work on strengthening its relations with the Kingdom of Morocco, and intensifying cooperation in various sectors of mutual interest, such as energy, agriculture, industry, mining, tourism, and others,” he added.

Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber noted that the UAEis the top Arab investor in Morocco, with a total of US$ 20 billion investments in 2022.

“I seize this opportunity to express thanks and gratitude to HM King Mohammed VI for Morocco’s strong participation in Expo 2020 Dubai, reflecting the deep-rooted ties between the UAE and Morocco. I would also like to thank Nadia Fettah Alaoui, Minister of Economy and Finance and Commissioner of the Moroccan Pavilion and her team for the excellent participation in this global event.”

He praised the design of the Moroccan Pavilion.

Located in the Opportunity District, the Morocco Pavilion gives visitors an immersive experience through a continuous ramp that reflects Moroccan streets, and its Wast Eddar, ‘heart of the home’, patio. The pavilion’s theme, ‘Legacies for the future – from inspiring origins to sustainable progress’, invites visitors to (re)discover the Kingdom, along with its history, identity, tangible achievements and vision for the future. It includes a climb to the top of the vertical earthen village for spectacular views of Expo 2020.

The Moroccan-Hungarian pianist Marouan Benabdallah’s repertoire ranges from classical music to tunes from the Middle East and North Africa. He often performs remarkable finds from composers from Syria, Algeria, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, Egypt and his native Morocco.

Saudi submits bid to host World Expo 2030 in Riyadh

The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has submitted the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s file to organise the World Expo 2030 in Riyadh…reports Asian Lite News

This was after announcement made by Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, in October.

The Kingdom’s file submission came upon its participation in the virtual meeting of the Bureau of International Exhibitions (BIE) General Assembly, which was held yesterday in the French capital, Paris, to start the competing candidatures process, which will take place in five stages to be ended with a vote at the end of 2023.

Saudi submits bid to host World Expo 2030 in Riyadh

To mark the occasion, the RCRC CEO Fahd bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Rasheed said that five countries are submitting their competing file to organise World Expo 2030: the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; South Korea; Italy; Ukraine and Russia.

This global event continues for six months and enables the host and participating countries to review the latest developments in science and technology, their most prominent cultures and heritage, and the progress made in the environmental, social and economic sectors.

“Riyadh will be the perfect manifestation of what the world expo aims to achieve, to bring together the world’s best minds, ideas and solutions in order to continue humanity’s path for progress,” the Arab News quoted Al-Rasheed as saying.

Addressing the 170 member states of the BIE, he added that “Expo 2030 will coincide with the year of the coronation of Saudi Vision 2030, and it will be an exceptional opportunity to showcase the achievements of the vision and exchange valuable lessons from this unprecedented transformation.”

He added: “Some of these lessons may be applied on a larger scale to help provide solutions to the most prominent challenges facing the world.”

Al-Rasheed took member states on a virtual tour, highlighting the rich biodiversity of Saudi Arabia, which includes vast deserts, the green mountains of the Asir region, the Red Sea coast and its rare coral reefs, and the historical sites of AlUla, the Arab News reported.

India and Bangladesh celebrated Maitri Diwas at India Pavilion to mark 50 years of bilateral relations…reports Asian Lite News

Marking the 50 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh, the two countries celebrated Maitri Diwas or Friendship Day on Tuesday evening at the India Pavilion in Expo 2020 Dubai. The celebrations signify an important milestone for India-Bangladesh partnership as it completes half-a-century and continue to strengthen, mature, and evolve as a model for bilateral relations for the entire region.

As part of the historic celebrations, the Pavilion organised various performances including folk songs and dance depicting the rich cultural heritage of the two countries. Consul General of India in Dubai along with his Bangladesh counterpart also attended the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Aman Puri, Consul General of India in Dubai and Deputy Commissioner-General for India at Expo 2020 Dubai said, “Over the last 50 years, the India-Bangladesh relationship has only strengthened, and socio-economic transformation of Bangladesh is an inspiration for the whole region.”

“Under the visionary leadership of the Prime Ministers of India and Bangladesh, the two countries are witnessing a golden era in the relationship, and we must continue to work together and make sure that this enormous goodwill is able to transform into more benefits for the people of India and Bangladesh”, said Dr. Puri.

“We must congratulate the UAE which is enabling the world to come together at Expo 2020 Dubai. It is a matter of pride that we are celebrating Maitri Diwas at the India Pavilion. It is an important message that governments across the globe must use this global platform to find ways and means to collaborate more for the benefit of people in their countries so that together we come out stronger in a post-Covid economy”, added Dr. Puri.

In his address, Mr. B M Jamal Hossain, Consul General of Bangladesh in Dubai said, “The holding of Maitri Diwas is a reflection of the deep and abiding friendship between the people of India and Bangladesh that has been forged in blood and shared sacrifices.”

“Over the last decades, both the countries have made remarkable progress on cooperation in large number of areas including security, connectivity, infrastructure, power, culture, people to people contact, disaster management, health etc. India has become one of the biggest development partners of Bangladesh and bilateral trade is now over USD 10 billion. Bangladesh-India relationships are now considered as a role model for neighbourhood diplomacy”, he added.

Earlier this year in March when Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi paid a State Visit to Bangladesh, both the countries decided to commemorate 06 December as Maitri Diwas, as it was on this day in 1971 that India recognized Bangladesh. India was one of the first countries to establish bilateral diplomatic ties with Bangladesh.

Apart from New Delhi and Dhaka, Maitri Diwas is being commemorated in 18 countries around the world including Belgium, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Russia, Qatar, Singapore, UK, Australia, France, Japan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, UAE and USA.

Thailand today celebrated its National Day at Expo 2020 with a flag-raising ceremony at Al Wasl plaza combined with a series of performances exhibiting the breadth and heritage of Thai culture, as well as a ‘Smile Parade’ aimed at spreading Thai exuberance and joy around Expo 2020 Dubai.

A choreographed ‘Miracle of Smile’ event at Al Wasl Plaza showcased a series of traditional and contemporary Thai cultural gems. Performances ranged from Thai martial arts, including Muay Thai, to Khon, a traditional Thai dance performance. An acapella group harmoniously sang ‘Oh I Say’, a royal song written by King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade welcomed Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn, Minister of Digital Economy and Society (MDES).

Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi said: “Thailand’s pavilion gives visitors to Expo 2020 Dubai the chance to learn about the nation’s digital infrastructure and creative advances in the fields of transportation, logistics, digital connectivity and personal mobility.

“The UAE is proud to be among Thailand’s top trading partners in the Middle East, and a gateway for Thai products into local and regional markets. Through Thailand’s presence at Expo 2020 and beyond, we look forward to furthering our collaborations in fields of common interest to our two nations, such as promoting new business, trade, and investment.”

CHAIWUT THANAKAMANUSORN, MINISTER OF DIGITAL ECONOMY AND SOCIETY: “I would like to take this opportunity to invite all of you to visit our Thailand Pavilion. It is the largest pavilion we ever built in the record of Thailand’s participation in the World Expo since 1862. Over 6,000 Thais are currently working and studying in the UAE and many have chosen the UAE as their second home. Thailand is among the top travel destinations for the Emiratis reflected by the number of more than 130,000 Emiratis who have visited each year. The Smile Parade featured a medley of visitors joining in a march of Thailand Pavilion representatives, ambassadors, performers and musicians, using their talent and brass instruments to create joyful performances throughout. The performance is rooted in the Thailand Pavilion’s concept of “Mobility for the Future,” which showcases how a brighter future can be achieved through connecting people, organisations and nations.

A golden pavilion covered with a curtain of 500-plus woven artificial flowers, the Thailand Pavilion contains an art feature titled ‘The Miracle of Smiles’ and takes guests on a 360 adventure throughout the country. Guests are invited to share their own flower engravings in the pavilion’s garden and discover more about Thailand’s creative advances in the fields of transportation, logistics, digital connectivity and personal mobility.

Rajasthan signs MoUs worth Rs 1,500cr at Dubai Expo

These MoUs are related to the logistics, ceramics, stone, real estate, tourism and agriculture sectors, reports Asian Lite News

Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) and Letters of Intent (LOI) worth over Rs 1,500 crore were signed between a Rajasthan delegation led by the state ministers Shanti Dhariwal, Parsadi Lal Meena and Arjun Singh Bamnia and investors at the Dubai Expo

These MoUs are related to the logistics, ceramics, stone, real estate, tourism and agriculture sectors.

The delegation held one-to-one meetings with various investors and also met representatives of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, who were invited to attend the state government’s program ‘Invest Rajasthan’ which is scheduled to take place on January 24-25, 2022.

Urban Development Minister Shanti Dhariwal said that positive reactions were seen regarding investment in Rajasthan.

“Overseas Rajasthanis as well as investors from different countries have expressed their willingness to invest in the state,” he added.

Industries Minister Parsadi Lal Meena informed that MoUs and LOIs were signed keeping in view the possibilities of industrial investment in the state and other policies including ‘One Stop Shop’, RIPS-2019 and MSME.

Also, investment proposals related to medical, education, IT, auto, textile and other sectors were being discussed, he added.

Minister of State for Industries Arjun Singh Bamnia informed that due to the availability of roads, electricity and natural resources besides DMIC, Expressway, Renewable Energy, investors are expressing their willingness to invest in Rajasthan.

The Rajasthan Pavilion at the Dubai Expo was inaugurated on November 13.

The Rajasthan pavilion which was inaugurated last Saturday was be graced by the state’s Industry Minister Prasadi Lal Meena, Urban Development Minister Shanti Dhariwal and the minister of state for Industry Arjun Singh Bamaniya, according to an official statement.

Besides, senior state bureaucrats and officials from the state’s industry and commerce department were also be present, it added.

The inaugural session at the Dubai Expo also marked the international launch of the Rajasthan government’s mega investment summit ‘Invest Rajasthan 2022’.

The programme was inaugurated under the aegis of Rajasthan Business and Professional Group at the India Club Dubai under the direction of Rajasthan Foundation Commissioner Dheeraj Srivastava. Industry experts Naveen Sharma, G R Mehta, Dinesh Kothari, Vasu Shroff, Gul Banswara also expressed their views during the event.

Global Business Foundation President Chandra Shekhar Bhatia, Conveners Sahitya Chaturvedi and Nilesh Jain gave a grand welcome and felicitation to the delegation.

During the week, several memorandum of understandings are also expected be signed between the state government and aspiring investors. The officials will also hold discussions and round table meetings with the investors present in Dubai during the period. 

The state officials shall also meet representatives of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce for further strengthening mutual trade and investment.

The international show will be a platform to highlight Rajasthan’s advantage as an investment destination and lay ground for major investments towards shaping trade and industrial scenario of the state. A series of the recent policy decisions by the state government have created a transparent and conducive investment environment.

The state, which is rich in mineral and natural resources, is also adding new advantages with the development of mega infrastructure projects such as Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor and Piped Gas grids. The upcoming HPCL-Rajasthan Oil refinery and Petrochemical Complex and Fintech park will add more avenues for investment.

ECI hosts World Business Angel Investors Week at Expo Dubai

Etihad Credit Insurance (ECI) in partnership with the World Business Angels Investment Forum (WBAF), hosted the World Business Angel Investors Week (WBAW) on 23rd October 2021 at Dubai Exhibition Centre at Expo 2020 Dubai.

As an affiliated partner of the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion, WBAF coordinates the World Business Angel Investors Week, which was held globally from 18th-24th October 2021 and participated in by 72 countries.

This hybrid event provided an open platform for connecting, learning, sharing, exhibiting inventions and innovations, and exchanging know-how that promotes entrepreneurship and angel investment ecosystems.

Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, shared his insights on how the UAE supports investors and entrepreneurs as a keynote speaker.

DR. THANI BIN AHMED AL ZEYOUDI, MINISTER OF STATE FOR FOREIGN TRADE: “Today, it is now indisputable that the UAE is amongst the best countries to invest in, where SMEs make up 95 percent of the total enterprise population. From the number of companies funded to the capital invested in startups, the UAE is leading the startup environment in the MENA region. This is a result of the partnership between the government and private sectors in educating investors and entrepreneurs on the importance of startups, providing various platforms to connect them, and forming a network of angels and startups where passion can be transformed into reality.”

The CEO of the Federal Company Etihad Credit Insurance, Massimo Falcioni, represented the country within the WBAF as the UAE High Commissioner at the Grand Assembly of the world’s biggest angel investment forum and provided a keynote speech at the opening ceremony.

Talking on Diplomacy in Action for Entrepreneurs, Falcioni said, “The world, which is recovering from the impacts of a prolonged pandemic in human history, demands new business diplomacy. Everything is in change and adopting better ways to meet the changing needs is at the heart of successful diplomatic actions. And incorporating the principle of sustainability, mobility and opportunities into diplomacy is critical for the time being and the time to come.

“As the UAE Federal export credit company, ECI has redefined diplomacy to encourage entrepreneurship by being instrumental in achieving the target adopted in the UAE National Agenda for non-oil Export Development. We implement our strategy to shape the UAE economy following the vision of the country’s wise leadership for the next 50 years.”

The event was attended by ministries, dignitaries, C-Level executives, and investors in person from the Expo 2020 Dubai. It also featured the whole WBAF Community hailing from more than 127 countries including 685 representatives, 16 High Commissioners, 4 Senior Senators, 266 Senators, 357 International Partners and 44 Faculty Members.

The inclusion of the UAE in WBAF provided a wide range of opportunities for UAE businesses, paving the way for outstanding economic growth.

‘Japan Day’ at Expo 2020 to promote Expo 2025 Osaka

Japanese authorities plan to utilise ‘”Japan Day” event – that will be held at Expo 2020 Dubai on 11th December – to promote the next world expo, which the Japanese city of Osaka will host in 2025…reports Asian Lite News

Ichiro Matsui, Mayor of Osaka, has called on the Japanese government to ease coronavirus-related travel restrictions, so that the officials in charge of Expo 2025 Osaka can travel to Dubai to attend ‘Japan Day’ and meet with participants there, especially businessmen, according to Sankei Shimbun newspaper.

Matsui and Hirofumi Yoshimura, the Governor of Osaka, will travel to Dubai to attend Japan Day, which will see several activities including a reception and a show. “I would like to meet with the business community and our citizens during the event and invite the largest number of people to come and visit Expo 2025 Osaka,” Matsui was quoted by the newspaper.

The newspaper reported that Matsui and Kenji Wakamiya, Minister of the Expo 2025 Osaka, have urged the central government to relax the coronavirus-related restrictions through the use of “COVID-19 passports” so that the social and economic activities in Osaka can be reactivated.

Officials at the Ministry of Commerce in charge of Expo 2025 said that Osaka plans to allow participants to attend the reception that is planned in Dubai.

Matsui said that the quarantine is a barrier that limits the activity of those in charge of Expo Osaka as well as foreigners arriving for the event. “We can’t work if we need to quarantine, after returning to Japan [from Dubai],” he said.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida had said that Expo 2025 Osaka is “a great project for the new era” after overcoming the coronavirus crisis.

As of 15th October, the number of countries that have confirmed their participation at the Expo Osaka has reached 58 countries and 5 international organisations, while Japan aims to attract the participation of 150 countries and 25 international entities.

The Sankei Shimbun newspaper has reported that Expo 2020 Dubai is of great significance to Japan’s success in promoting Expo 2025 Osaka. The officials of the event believe that the ‘Japan Day’ in Dubai is “a priceless opportunity” to spread awareness about Expo 2025 Osaka.

UAE and Estonia to expand space collaboration at Expo 2020

The UAE Space Agency has held high-level bilateral talks with a delegation of senior government and business officials from the Republic of Estonia to accelerate collaboration and the transfer of space-related technologies and services.

‘Dubai Expo a global platform to highlight space achievements’

Salem Butti Salem Al Qubaisi, Director-General of the UAE Space Agency, met with Sille Kraam, Deputy Secretary-General for Business and Consumer Environment, at Estonia’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications at the Estonia Pavilion.

Taking place on the sidelines of Expo 2020 Dubai’s Space Week, the meeting between the two officials explored the potential for greater collaboration in all space-related fields.

This included opportunities to strengthen ties across science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and facilitate new partnerships between the public and private sectors to drive economic growth and human progress.

Our meeting provided a constructive platform to build on our shared ties as we create a competitive, innovation-driven economy for the next 50 years.”

Estonia and the UAE have enjoyed meteoric success in the space arena in recent years. Estonia, a full member of the European Space Agency since 2015, took a giant leap forward in the industry this year. On 11th January 2021, it was announced that Estonia would provide stereo cameras to Maxar Technologies for NASA’s Artemis lunar programme. The cameras will provide an important part of a major new mission to send humans back to the Moon in 2024 and one day establish a lunar settlement.

The UAE recently announced a new mission to explore Venus and an asteroid belt between Venus and Mars. Scheduled to launch in 2028, the 3.6-billion-kilometre journey into deep space will test the scientific and technical capabilities of the UAE more than ever before and is one of the country’s new Projects of the 50 – a series of economic and development initiatives for social and economic transformation.
