J&K National Film Festival to kick off in June

The Jammu and Kashmir Film Development Council in collaboration with National Film Development Corporation and the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, is organising the first-ever National Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir from June 15-20, officials said on Monday.

The film festival, which will be a congregation of the best of films and music, film-makers, music artists, other allied talent, will serve as a reservoir of creativity and inspiration for anyone across the world who aspires to live, love and breathe films and music.

The idea behind this film festival is to highlight the film, music and creative ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir, along with its’ natural and social-cultural beauty that Jammu and Kashmir has been blessed with, to rest of India and the world.

The Indian filmmakers and music producers, artists have been invited to submit their original films — fiction, documentary, OTT Films or shorts and Music Videos for the first National Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir for a chance to win numerous awards under three broad categories including Feature Films, Non-Feature Films and Music Videos.

There are over 40+ awards to be given during the Film Festival Award ceremony and the winners will receive mentioned cash component as well a certificate and a medal/trophy.

The list of awards and prizes, rules and terms have been mentioned in the website https://filmfreeway.com/nffjk while the entries can be submitted at — https://filmfreeway.com/nffjk. The last date for receiving entries on the website is May 16, 2022.

Second Bangladesh Film Festival kicks off; to showcase Liberation War

The second Bangladesh Film Festival was inaugurated here on Wednesday with leaders of India and Bangladesh reiterating to jointly organise more cultural and literary events to further strengthen the bonding between the two neighbouring countries.

An official from the Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner’s office said the second edition of the Bangladesh Film Festival has been planned to commemorate the golden jubilee celebrations of the 1971 Liberation War.

One film was screened at the inaugural session on Wednesday, while several other films on ‘Mukti Juddha’ (liberation war) are line-up for screening.

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Bangladesh Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud, Tripura Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, along with many actors and film personalities from Bangladesh were present in the inaugural function.

Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner Arif Mohammad said that best-produced films on the liberation war would be screened in the festival to showcase the great victory and glorious history of Bangladesh before the young generations of the two countries.

The role of the Indian government, especially the people of Tripura, during the liberation war would also be highlighted in the film festival, the envoy said, adding that the cultural festival aims to further strengthen the socio-economic ties between the two friendly neighbours.

The festival was scheduled to be held in Agartala in October last year, but was deferred due to the communal incidents that occurred in Bangladesh during the Durga Puja festival and the subsequent incidents in Tripura.

Japanese Film Festival goes virtual for 5th edition

The fifth edition of the Japanese Film Festival (JFF) will take the virtual route as it will be held online. The Japan Foundation New Delhi made the announcement on Thursday.

The two-week festival, which will celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and India, will screen 20 globally popular Japanese movies of varied genres and styles starting from February 14.

The theme that defines the festival’s curation is ‘Journey’ and 20 films have been carefully selected to represent the several aspects of this theme.

Commenting on the announcement, Koji Sato, Director General, Japan Foundation, New Delhi said, “The popularity of Japanese content has been distinctly growing in the Indian landscape which has been further fuelled by an increase in online content consumption in the current scenario.”

“It was a difficult decision to make but keeping fans’ safety utmost, the virtual platform will help us reach a wider audience base. We are confident the festival will be successful and bigger with the online platform and our dear audience will be able to experience the same magic and energy like ever before”, he added.

The Japanese Film Festival 2022 film catalogue includes films like ‘It’s a Summer Film’, ‘Mio’s Cookbook’, ‘Masked Ward’, ‘Under the Open Sky’, ‘Awake’, ‘Aristocrats’, ‘Time of Eve’, ‘Ito’, ‘Patema Inverted’, ‘Sumodo – The Successors of Samurai’, ‘The God of Ramen’, ‘Rashomon’, ‘The Floating Castle’, ‘Happy Flight’, ‘Oz Land’, ‘Until the Break of dawn’, ‘Her Love Boils Bathwater’, ‘The Chef of South Polar’, ‘Bread of Happiness’ and ‘ReLIFE’.

India to be part of Tashkent Int’l Film Festival for peace, enlightenment and progress

Multiple stars from the Hindi film industry have confirmed their participation at the 13th Tashkent International Film Festival which is being held under the aegis of the President of Uzbekistan from September 28 to October 3, 2021.The participation of Indian movies and stars has been facilitated by fashion designer and Cultural and Tourism Ambassador for Uzbekistan in India, Ritu Beri.

The theme of this edition of the festival is “For Peace, Enlightenment and Progress” which will see participation from 15 countries which include countries like Italy, Russia, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Israel, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, Tajikistan and Turkey, among others.

The participating countries will be on stage for the glamorous opening ceremony and the country will present its culture and cinematography. “Days of Indian Cinema” will be from September 28-29.

Multiple Hollywood Film Stars Steven Sigal, Timur Bikmambetov, Rob Minkoff, Gerard Depardie and others. From India Bollywood stars like Gulshan Grover, Richa Chadha, Boman Irani, Dino Moreau, Aditi Rao Hydari, Huma Qureshi, and others. Further, there shall be a performance by Celebrity singer Jasbir Jassi, on September 29 at Alisher Navoi Cinema Palace. Besides, the festival will have music, national dances, and songs from other participating countries.

According to Ritu Beri, “This festival gives a unique opportunity for the Indian film industry to leave its mark on an international platform. This is an endeavour to deepen the historic connections between India and Uzbekistan and take the close cultural similarities of architecture, dance, music, art, trade, and cinema to new heights.”

There will be a screening of several Indian films which include films like Mumbai Saga directed by Sanjay Gupta and Ludo by Anurag Basu at the Film festival.

UK Asian Film Festival to begin with ‘Raahgir’

Adil is known for roles in his films such as “The Reluctant Fundamentalist”, “Mukti Bhawan” and “English Vinglish”. The Adil Hussain-starrer “Raahgir: The Wayfarers” is the opening film at the 23rd UK Asian Film Festival, which starts on May 26. The actor shared the news on Instagram…reports Asian Lite News.

Sharing a still from the Goutam Ghose directorial that features him with actress Tillotama Shome, he wrote: “Thrilled to announce that Our film #Raahgir/#Wayfaeres is opening 23rd UK Asian Film Festival from 26th May. Director #GautamGhose producer @itsonlyamitagarwal. In the Lead @tillotamashome @neerajkabi and me.”

The film’s story centres around an encounter between two underprivileged people who are trying to find economic opportunities.

Adil is known for his roles in films like “Mukti Bhawan”, “Life Of Pi”, “The Reluctant Fundamentalist” and “English Vinglish”. He was recently seen in the OTT-released film “The Illegal”.

Tillotama has made her mark with roles in films like “Monsoon Weddings”, “Qissa”. “A Death In The Gunj”, and “Hindi Medium”.
