According to Israeli authorities, the militant group has taken up 150 people as hostages in Gaza following its attack on October 7….reports Asian Lite News
Israel’s Energy Minister Israel Katz on Thursday said that there will be no supply of electricity, fuel or water for the Gaza Strip until the Hamas militant group frees hostages.
In a post on X, the Minister said: “No electrical switch will be turned on, no water hydrant will be opened and no fuel truck will enter (Gaza) until the Israeli abductees are returned home.
“Humanitarian for humanitarian. And no one will preach us morals.”
According to Israeli authorities, the militant group has taken up 150 people as hostages in Gaza following its attack on October 7.
In retaliation to the unprecedented assault, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant on Monday had ordered a “complete siege” of Gaza, saying he would halt the supply of electricity, food, water and fuel.
The Gaza Strip’s only power station stopped working on Wednesday due to fuel shortages.
As a result, every facility in the hamas-controlled enclave, including the hospitals, are relying on generators, which in turn need fresh supplies of fuel.
On Thursday, the International Committee of the Red Cross warned that the hospitals now risk turning into morgues as they lose power.
“The human misery caused by this escalation is abhorrent, and I implore the sides to reduce the suffering of civilians,” the BBC quoted the ICRC’s regional director for the Near and Middle East, Fabrizio Carboni, as saying.
“As Gaza loses power, hospitals lose power, putting newborns in incubators and elderly patients on oxygen at risk. Kidney dialysis stops, and X-rays can’t be taken.”
Gaza, one of the most densely populated places where some 2 million people live in an area of 140 square miles, has been almost completely cut off from the rest of the world for nearly 17 years, when Hamas seized control.
This prompted Israel and Egypt to impose a strict siege on the territory, which is ongoing.
Israel also maintains an air and naval blockade on Gaza.
More than half of the enclave’s population lives in poverty and is food insecure, with nearly 80 per cent relying on humanitarian assistance.

Also in update, the UNRWA said that its Gaza Field Office, where domestic and international staff are present, suffered collateral damage due to airstrikes in the Rimal area.
In total, 18 UNRWA installations have been affected so far, the Agency added.
As the violence raged for a fourth day on Tuesday, the death toll on both sides has increased to nearly 1,600.

According to Israeli government officials, more than 900 people have died, of which 260 people were massacred by Hamas gunmen at a music festival shortly after the group launched its attack.

According to Israel’s emergency services, in Ashkelon, just north of Gaza, four people were injured, while in Ashdod, a woman was critically injured.
Monday marked the third day of conflict between Israel and Hamas after the militant group launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, prompting the Jewish nation to declare war and pound the Gaza Strip with airstrikes.

Israel has maintained its death toll at more than 700.

Surprise Attacks
Israel was taken by surprise in one of the most serious cross-border attacks it has faced in more than a generation. For months, it has been clear that there was a deepening risk of an explosion between Palestinian armed groups and Israel.
Israelis and Palestinians have been focusing on the West Bank, the territory between Jerusalem and the Jordanian border that Israel has occupied since 1967, where there has been almost continuous confrontation and violence throughout the year.
Armed Palestinians, especially those operating out of the West Bank towns of Jenin and Nablus, have attacked Israeli soldiers and Jewish settlers. The Israeli army has mounted dozens of raids. Armed settlers have taken the law into their own hands, with reprisals against Palestinian villages. No-one expected Hamas to conceive and meticulously plan such a complex and coordinated operation out of Gaza.
This was followed by several Hamas terrorists entering Israel from the Gaza Strip and taking over Israeli towns. Hamas military commander Muhammad Al-Deif called the operation “Al-Aqsa Storm” and said that the assault on Israel was a response to attacks on women, the desecration of the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem and the ongoing siege of Gaza.
Some graphic videos showed bodies strewn in the streets of the southern city of Sderot after the attack by Palestinian militants. Cars were riddled with bullets and lit on fire. Meanwhile, the IDF has said that it has killed seven terrorists attempting to enter Israel via the Zikim Beach just north of Gaza.
The IDF says it prevented the terrorists from infiltrating into Israeli communities. The military also says that it recently struck three operational sites being used by Hamas in Gaza, as per The Times of Israel.
The Israeli security forces have also rescued an unspecified number of people who were taken hostage in a home in the southern town of Ofakim. The terrorists were killed, according to reports.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the IDF has said his country hasn’t regained full control in the wake of attacks from the militant group Hamas on Saturday. “There are still active battles between Israeli security forces and terrorists inside Gaza. And unfortunately, we have not yet been able to re-establish full control over all of our communities and all of our bases,” Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus. “This is the top priority,” he added.
Conricus during a live briefing on Sunday said: “Unprecedented attack requires unprecedented response. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Hamas has started a cruel, evil war and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will use all its strength to destroy Hamas’ capabilities.
“Hamas forces invaded Israeli territory this morning, on the morning of a holiday and Shabbat, and murdered innocent civilians, children and the elderly. Hamas started a cruel and evil war. We will win this war, but the price is too heavy to bear. This is a very difficult day for all of us,” the Israeli PM wrote on ‘X’ on Sunday.

The military also struck at Hamas targets after incendiary balloons were sent from the Gaza Strip and caused fire on the Israeli side of the border.
Palestinian protestors have been gathering at the border in the past week, burning tires and throwing explosive devices at Israeli troops.
The demonstrators and Hamas say the protests are in response to recent Jewish visits to the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in the Old City of Jerusalem, a flashpoint in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
