The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has offered employment opportunities for family members and funding of education of the children of its two Indian employees who died in the terrorist Houthi attacks on the company’s premises in Musaffah on 17th January, a top Indian diplomat said.

“India is deeply grateful for the concern and support received from the UAE leadership and ADNOC to the families of the two Indians killed and [other] two Indians injured in the incident,” said Sunjay Sudhir, the Indian Ambassador to the UAE, on Tuesday.

“ADNOC has offered employment opportunities for family members and funding of education of the children of the deceased, so they are able to fulfill their chosen career pathways,” he added.

ADNOC has also accelerated the distribution of service benefits and salary compensation of the deceased to their families, the ambassador revealed in a media briefing with a select group of journalists at the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

Two Indian civilians and one Pakistani civilian were killed, and six other civilians were injured in the Houthi terrorist attack on 17th January in Abu Dhabi.

“We also appreciate ADNOC’s efforts in continuing to provide medical support for the two injured Indians. The spontaneous support received from the Government of the UAE and ADNOC after the incident has instilled more confidence in the Indian community in the UAE [the largest Indian diaspora in the world],” the ambassador said.

“I have publicly assured the Indian community that the UAE continues to be one of the safest countries in the world, and they should all keep working, as in the past, without worrying about security. The Indian community, too, is fully appreciative of the succour provided to the families of the victims.”

Victims treated as family members

Quick repatriation

With the support of ADNOC and the Government of the UAE, the Indian Embassy was able to quickly repatriate mortal remains of the two deceased Indians, Hardev Singh and Hardeep Singh, to their native places in Punjab, the diplomat revealed.

ADNOC has covered all repatriation costs as well as travel costs for family members to transport the remains of the deceased, he added.

About the recent Houthi terrorist attacks against the UAE, the ambassador said, “India has condemned in the strongest terms the recent terror attacks on the UAE. India stands in full solidarity with the UAE. India has also emphasised that such an attack on innocent civilians was completely unacceptable and against all civilised norms. Given its principled position against terrorism, India will stand with the UAE in international forums on this issue.”

Houthis suffer serious setbacks in fight over Yemen’s oil-rich provinces

Recent military operations conducted by elite Yemeni troops inflicted serious setbacks on the Iran-backed Houthi militia in the fight over the country’s oil-rich provinces…reports Asian Lite News

The Southern Giants Brigades, backed by the Saudi-led coalition, on Sunday continued to launch a large-scale military operation against the Houthi militia in the country’s eastern part, the official told Xinhua news agency.

Following weeks of intense battles, the Southern Giants Brigades succeeded in ejecting the Houthi militia from key strategic areas in the country’s oil-rich provinces of Shabwa and Marib, according to the official.

“The Houthis are now attempting to retaliate by using ballistic missiles and explosive-laden drones attacks in addition to planting landmines and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs),” another official of the pro-coalition Yemeni forces told Xinhua.

“The Houthi rebels gave up fighting and fled their military sites in Marib and Shabwa following the rapid progress of the Giants Brigades on-ground,” he said.

Last week, units of the Giants Brigades captured the whole district of Harib from the Houthis in Marib following days of intense battles and intensified airstrikes, according to local military sources.

They said the Houthis lost other key areas besides Harib as the Saudi-backed Yemeni forces are continuing military progress in the strategic province.

Given the numerous losses, senior Houthi leaders have launch more cross-border missile attacks against Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

In response, the Saudi-led coalition intensified its aerial bombardment and expanded airstrikes against the Houthi-held sites across the poorest country in the Arab world.

On Friday, the Saudi-led coalition reported that 70 Houthi militia members were killed within 24 hours as part of 24 targeted strikes in Yemen’s Marib.

Yemen has been mired in a civil war since the Houthi militia overran much of the country militarily and seized all northern provinces, including the capital Sanaa, in 2014.

Saudi Arabia has been leading an Arab military coalition that intervened in Yemen in 2015 to support the government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi after Houthis forced him into exile.

The explosions smashed windows of nearby houses and sent a fire which could be seen from downtown.

The airstrikes came after the militia claimed responsibility for explosive-laden drones and ballistic missile attacks on sites in Saudi Arabia and the UAE on Monday morning.

This was the second of such cross-border attacks against Saudi Arabia and the UAE claimed by the Houthi militia in nearly a week.

On Monday, the Defence Ministry of the UAE announced that its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles fired by Yemen’s Houthi militia.

The attack, caused no casualties, as the ballistic missile fragments fell in several locations around Abu Dhabi.

The ballistic missile launcher in Yemen’s Al Jawf governorate was destroyed shortly after it launched the two missiles against Abu Dhabi, UAE’s Defence Ministry announced in a post on its Twitter account.

Video footage posted on UAE Defence Ministry’s Twitter account showed a huge fire erupting at an infrastructure, which was described by the ministry as a ballistic missile launcher in Yemen, after it was hit by a missile. The missile was reported to have been launched by an F-16 fighter jet.

The ministry also said in a statement that it is ready to deal with any threats and will “take all necessary measures to protect the state from all attacks.”

The strike had targeted the Al Dhafra Air Base and other sensitive sites in Abu Dhabi, as well as important sites in Dubai, Houthi military spokesman Yehya Sarea said in a statement.

The militia also used “a large number of drones” to attack multiple military bases in Saudi Arabia’s Sharurah and other areas, and fired ballistic missiles against the Jazan and Asir regions, according to Sarea.

The strike against Saudi Arabia, according to the Saudi-led coalition, resulted in material losses but no casualties.

On January 17 the Houthis claimed a drone and missile attack that struck an oil facility and the airport in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi.

The Cairo-based pan-Arab bloc convened an extraordinary meeting on Sunday following the attacks.

In a statement, the bloc called the strikes “a flagrant violation of international law… and a real threat to vital civilian installations, energy supplies, and global economic stability,” as well as a threat to regional peace and security, according to reports.

The attack on Abu Dhabi was the first deadly assault acknowledged by the UAE inside its borders and claimed by the Yemeni insurgents during a seven-year Saudi-led coalition campaign against the rebels, the Khaleej Times reported.

Last week, the members of the UN Security Council on Friday strongly condemned “heinous terrorist attacks” in Abu Dhabi, as well as in other sites in Saudi Arabia.

In a statement, the members of the Security Council expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims of the Houthi attacks and to the governments of India and Pakistan, and they wished a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured.
