Kerala Blasters end Hyderabad FC’s unbeaten run

Hyderabad FC had most of the possession in the first half, but the away side were solid at the back, and limited the defending champions to half chances for most of the half…reports Asian Lite News

Kerala Blasters ended Hyderabad FC’s unbeaten run in this season’s Hero Indian Super League (ISL) with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium, here on Saturday.

Dimitrios Diamantakos (’18) scored the only goal of the game to take the Kerala Blasters to third place in the league.

Hyderabad FC were going to retain their place at the top of the table regardless of the result, and were heading into this tie on the back of four straight 1-0 victories.

Kerala Blasters and Ivan Vukomanovic are on the road to recovery with convincing wins in their last three matches after a slow start to the season.

Manolo Marquez made three changes to the Hyderabad FC line up after the win against Jamshedpur FC. Kerala Blasters were unchanged from their last win.

Hyderabad FC had most of the possession in the first half, but the away side were solid at the back, and limited the defending champions to half chances for most of the half.

Kerala Blasters took the lead thanks to some excellent work from Adrian Luna in the build up to the goal in the 18th minute. The Uruguayan found some space in the pockets, before playing an ambitious lobbed pass into the path of an onrushing Nishu Kumar.

Hyderabad FC’s Anuj Kumar came charging out of his line to prevent the ball from reaching Nishu Kumar, but his push wasn’t strong enough, and went straight into the path of Dimitrios Diamantakos, who slammed the ball into the net.

Hyderabad FC’s best chance of the game came just before the half-time whistle was blown. Bartholomew Ogbeche, the leading goalscorer in ISL history, did not get the right contact on his header after finding himself free on the far post from a free-kick at the edge of the box.

The second-half started with both teams looking a bit more open. Hyderabad FC were pushing men forward, and Kerala Blasters looked eager to get the second goal.

Things settled down after the first 10 minutes of the second-half, however. Hyderabad FC continued to push for the goal, but just couldn’t manufacture a great chance.

Hyderabad FC’s lack of thrust in the final third might force Manolo Marquez to switch things up going forward. They will be heading to the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata next week to face ATK Mohun Bagan.

On the other hand, Kerala Blasters will be heading to the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur to face Jamshedpur FC.

Defending Champions Hyderabad FC beat Jamshedpur FC

The visitors made just one change that saw Bartholomew Ogbeche start as Borja Herrera returned to the bench…reports Asian Lite News

Hyderabad FC registered a fourth consecutive 1-0 victory this season as they edged past Jamshedpur FC in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the JRD Tata Sports Complex here on Wednesday.

Mohammed Yasir scored again for the defending champions in the second half to end their winless streak against the Red Miners.

The hosts made four changes to the side that lost to FC Goa in the last match. Head coach Aidy Boothroyd replaced injured Eli Sabia with Pratik Chaudhari in defence. In the midfield, Wellington Priori dropped to the bench, and Laldinpuia Pachuau took his place. Jay Thomas and Harry Sawyer started as Farukh Choudhary and Ritwik Das started from the bench.

The visitors made just one change that saw Bartholomew Ogbeche start as Borja Herrera returned to the bench.

Despite being goalless, the first half was a decent one for Jamshedpur. None of the Hyderabad FC players tested Rehenesh TP. At the other end, Laxmikant Kattimani barely managed to keep Daniel Chukwu’s header out of goal before being stretchered off with an injury after a collision with Harry Sawyer.

Before the visitors were forced to make a substitution, Jamshedpur had to replace Laldinpuia Pachuau in the 25th minute. Farukh Choudhary hopped on to replace the injured midfielder.

Towards the end of the first half, Sawyer entered the box and faced the goal from an acute angle. The striker opted to shoot rather than pass and saw his effort fly high. The game’s complexion changed early in the second half as Hyderabad FC drew first blood. Halicharan Narzary’s low cross aimed at Ogbeche was intercepted by Peter Hartley.

However, the ball eventually landed in front of an unmarked Yasir, who squeezed the ball in at the near post in the 48th minute.

Approaching the final quarter of the game, the hosts finally tested substitute keeper Anuj Kumar. Boris Singh found Sawyer with a low cross inside the box. Sawyer had his back towards goal as he rolled it back towards Hartley, whose shot was low and hard, but unable to beat Anuj.

Seven minutes from regulation time, Odei Onaindia headed the ball back towards Anuj. Under pressure from Ishan Pandita, Anuj fumbled and ended up handling the ball outside the box. The shot-stopper only saw a yellow card for the offence and Jamshedpur FC failed to get anything from the resulting free kick.

Another win for Hyderabad FC takes them seven points clear at the top with 13 points. Their next challenge will come at home on November 19, Saturday, when they host Kerala Blasters. Jamshedpur FC remain in ninth place after their third loss of the season. They play Chennaiyin FC at the Marina Arena on November 19, Saturday.

Hyderabad FC regain top spot with 1-0 win over FC Goa

After Saturday’s result, Hyderabad FC are now with 10 points from four games while FC Goa are now placed fourth on the table with six points after three games…reports Asian Lite News

Hyderabad FC regained their place at the top of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 points table after a 1-0 victory over FC Goa at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium, here on Saturday.

Javier Siverio (10th) scored the only goal of the game whereas FC Goa’s Alvaro Vazquez, who had come on as a substitute, missed a great chance to get an equaliser after sending his penalty wide in the 83rd minute.

Both sides were heading into this game unbeaten in the season. FC Goa had a 100 per cent win record after two games, and Hyderabad FC had collected seven points after three games.

After Saturday’s result, Hyderabad FC are now with 10 points from four games while FC Goa are now placed fourth on the table with six points after three games.

Hyderabad FC were unchanged from last week’s win over Bengaluru FC. FC Goa, on the other hand, made two changes — Ayush Chhetri and goalkeeper Arshdeep Singh — were included in the starting XI, with Glan Martins and Dheeraj Moirangthem dropped to the bench.

Hyderabad took the lead in the 10th minute. A throw-in directed towards Bartholomew Ogbeche’s head from the left flank was flicked by the Nigerian onto the path of an onrushing Javier Siverio, who made no mistake with his finish, expertly placing the ball into the bottom left corner with his left-foot.

FC Goa had most of the possession in the first-half, and were extremely patient in build-up, trying to get the Hyderabad FC forwards to commit to the press, and play through them, but the Hyderabad FC defence disrupted most moves before the away team could enter the final third.

In the 23rd minute, Noah Sadaoui, who was finding space in the left channel throughout the first-half, played Redeem Tlang in, who only had the Hyderabad FC goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani to beat, but the FC Goa winger’s lobbed effort was too tame, and went straight into the hands of the Hyderabad FC goalkeeper at the edge of the box.

Half-time ended with Hyderabad FC taking a 1-0 lead. FC Goa head coach Carlos Pena made a double switch before heading into the second-half. Marc Valiente and Redeem Tlang made way for Fares Arnaout and Makan Chothe.

The second-half started with both sides showing greater urgency. Hyderabad FC were more aggressive, attempting to put FC Goa on the backfoot by overloading the flanks. FC Goa were also less patient in their build-up, looking to play the ball in behind more often.

Noah Sadaoui was found clear on goal four minutes later for FC Goa, but some good work from Kattimani once again, who was quick off his line, forced the Moroccan to delay his shot, and take it from a difficult angle.

FC Goa made another double switch later in the half. Noah Sadaoui and Brandon Fernandes made way for Alvaro Vazquez and Brison Fernandes. Hyderabad FC were the better side for the next 10 minutes, getting into the final third with more ease, but were unable to fashion some clear goalscoring opportunities.

Not long after, FC Goa were given a penalty against the run of play. Akash Mishra went flying into the path of Alvaro Vazquez in the box. Vazquez took it upon himself to take the penalty, but his shot went wide.

The game was quite frenetic for the next couple of minutes. Six minutes of added time were signalled during which Edu Bedia had a chance to equalise in the 95th minute after being found on the far post, but Laxmikant Kattimani denied him with a brilliant save. The match ended 1-0 to Hyderabad FC.

Dominant Hyderabad FC defeat NorthEast United 3-0

Narzary then played the ball into the path of Javier Siverio before the Spaniard’s attempt was superbly saved by Arindam Bhattacharja at full stretch…reports Asian Lite News

Hyderabad FC secured their first win of the season after a dominant 3-0 victory over NorthEast United FC in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium here on Thursday.

Hyderabad FC dominated the game as Bartholomew Ogbeche, Halicharan Narzary and Borja Herrera got their names on the scoresheet. They finished the game with nine shots on target while NEUFC could only muster two.

In the 13th minute, there was a sign of what was to come for the Highlanders on the night, when Mohamed Irshad brought Halicharan Narzary down on the left flank and had his name taken by the referee. From the resulting freekick, Mohammad Yasir whipped a beautiful ball into the box and Bartholomew Ogbeche simply side-footed the ball into the back of the net to give the defending champions an early lead.

Midway through the first half, Hyderabad FC broke on the counter with Yasir. The winger played an inch-perfect low pass to Narzary on the opposite flank. Narzary then played the ball into the path of Javier Siverio before the Spaniard’s attempt was superbly saved by Arindam Bhattacharja at full stretch.

In the final minute of first-half stoppage time, NorthEast United came close to leveling the score. Romain Philippoteaux’s cross from the right flank was parried by Nikhil Poojary and went straight to Jon Gaztanaga. The Spanish midfielder’s looping ball towards the far post was inches away from youngster Parthib Gogoi. It ended up being one of the few highlights for the home team on the night.

Five minutes into the second half, Ogbeche and Siverio played a sublime one-two before the former was taken down inside the box by Gaurav Bora, and the referee immediately pointed to the spot. Ogbeche stepped up to take the penalty but Bhattacharja went the correct way to deny the Nigerian, keeping the Highlanders in the game briefly.

Closing in on the hour mark, the NorthEast United FC shot-stopper produced another great save. Hitesh Sharma crossed the ball in from the left flank before Siverio’s goal-bound header was palmed away by Bhattacharja. Minutes later, substitute Rochharzela found Matt Derbyshire with a cross, only for the striker to put it wide of the post.

In the 69th minute, yet another instance of sloppiness from NorthEast United FC resulted in a goal-scoring chance that was successfully taken. Bhattacharja rolled the ball towards Bora, who was robbed of it by Narzary. The 28-year-old kept his composure and slotted in Hyderabad FC’s 100th Hero ISL goal. Four minutes later, Narzary combined well with substitute Borja Herrera on the left flank. Herrera scored Hyderabad FC’s third goal of the evening, just two minutes after coming on.

Hyderabad FC’s dominance could have resulted in more goals. Four minutes from regulation time, striker Ogbeche rattled the crossbar and the play only resulted in a goal kick. The final scoreline was only the second instance of a team this season not managing to get on the scoresheet, with the previous instance also involving NorthEast United FC.

Hyderabad FC will now make the long trip back home to host Bengaluru FC in their next game on Saturday, October 22. The Highlanders will be hoping for a positive result when they host East Bengal FC on October 20.

Hyderabad FC, Kerala Blasters all set for title clash

ATKMB looked the likelier of the two teams to nod ahead in the opening exchanges, the Mariners needing two goals at least to make a comeback…reports Asian Lite News

Despite their 0-1 loss to ATK Mohun Bagan in the second leg of the Hero Indian Super League semifinal, Hyderabad FC made history by qualifying for the final with a 3-2 victory on aggregate over two legs at the Athletic Stadium, here on Wednesday.

Roy Krishna scored in the 79th minute to give ATKMB a glimmer of hope and make for an end-to-end last ten minutes but in the end, it was not enough for the finalists of last season as the men in yellow booked a final date with Kerala Blasters at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda on Sunday. In the first leg, Bartholomew Ogbeche, Yasir Mohammad and Javier Siverio netted for Hyderabad.

Hyderabad head coach Manolo Marquez played the same team that won the first leg 3-1 while Juan Ferrando made a few changes to the ATKMB side from the last game with the ever-dependable centre-back Tiri being a forced one as he picked up an injury in the last game. Kiyan Nassiri — who scored a memorable hattrick in the Kolkata derby earlier this season — got a start.

ATKMB looked the likelier of the two teams to nod ahead in the opening exchanges, the Mariners needing two goals at least to make a comeback.

Liston Colaco was proving to be a handful for the Hyderabad defenders as he time and again put Nim Dorjee Tamang to the sword with his jinking runs. Colaco’s industry could have paid dividends soon but the local boy curled his effort just wide of target after dribbling past a few Hyderabad shirts inside the box. Colaco then tried to set up Krishna with a similar run and delivery inside the box but Yasir Mohammad did well to keep the Fijian striker at bay.

There was no stopping Colaco as he shimmied past a few defenders post the drinks break and took a swipe at goal only for Laxmikant Kattimani to pull off a stunning save with his outstretched leg. At the other end, Aniket Jadhav spurned a gilt-edged chance to make it 4-1 on aggregate for Hyderabad from a Yasir ball, nodding a free header from five yards, wide. The best chance of the half, though, fell to Hugo Boumous who could not stab home from handshaking distance after a pin-point Prabir Das cross set him up perfectly, the French-Moroccan sliding in to get a touch on the ball as well but only dragging his effort wide. Just before halftime, Joni Kauko shot wide, to sum up ATKMB’s half of missed opportunities.

Hyderabad suffered a blow early on in the second half when Sauvik Chakrabarti had to come off due to an injury, Sahil Tavora replacing the midfielder. ATKMB kept piling on one attack after another as Hyderabad sat back and defended deep. Ferrando took off Sandesh Jhingan and threw in Manvir Singh, going all out in search of goals. There were huge appeals for a penalty when Joni Kauko was brought down by Akash Mishra but replays showed he was tackled just outside the box.

The goal came from a likely source for ATKMB as Colaco showed his magic again down the left flank, bursting down that side to cross from the byline at the far post where Krishna was on hand to slam home from close.

ATKMB threw in the towel in the last ten minutes but it proved to be too tall an order for them in the end as they succumbed to a semifinal exit.
