‘Wanted to kill only Imran’, says attacker

Other than the PTI top leadership, at least six others others have been injured in the attack, one of whom is in a critical state. As per reports, at least one person has died in the attack….reports Hamza Ameer

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and former Pakistan Prime Minster Imran Khan survived a deadly attack on Thursday after an assailant reached close to his container and opened fire targeting Khan during the party’s long march in Gujranwala.

Nabbed by the police, the attacker later said that he only wanted to kill Khan and no one else.

The shooter opened a burst of bullets which hit PTI leaders standing next to Khan and also injured the former premier who got shot in the leg.

According to PTI leaders, Khan is presently ‘out of danger’.

As per sources, senior PTI leaders, including Senator Faisal Javed Khan, former Sindh Governor Imran Ismail and Ahmed Chatha, were injured in the firing.

Immediately after the attack, Khan was taken inside the container, after which he was rushed to the local hospital from where he was shifted to the Shaukat Khanam Hospital in Lahore.

Other than the PTI top leadership, at least six others others have been injured in the attack, one of whom is in a critical state. As per reports, at least one person has died in the attack.

The attackers, numbering two, were nabbed by the supporters of PTI present in the march before being handed over to the police.

As per details, one of the attackers is named Faisal Butt, while the other has been identified as Mohammad Naveed.

Faisal said he wanted to kill Khan ever since the latter started his long march from Lahore on October 28.

“I got angry with Khan for spreading hatred and misleading the people. I only wanted to kill Khan and no one else,” said Faisal.

“I did this on my own will and no one told me to do so. I just got angry on Khan and wanted to kill him,” Faisal added.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took immediate notice of the incident and ordered the Interior Ministry to submit a report on the matter.

“I condemn the incident of firing on PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the strongest words. I have directed the Interior Minister for an immediate report on the incident. I pray for the recovery and health of the PTI Chairman and other injured people,” Sharif said.

“The government will extend all the necessary support to the Punjab government for security and investigation. Violence should have no place in our country,” Sharif added.

Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has also ordered an immediate inquiry into the firing incident.

The attack on Khan came at a time when the slow pace of the long march was being criticised for not having an impact on the government officials, who have stated that the government will not bow down to any of the demands of Khan, which he aims to achieve with the long march.

The march has been moving at a snail’s pace since with a travel time of about four hours or less in a day.

Khan himself had said earlier that time will define if his fight for revolution in the country against the current leadership will be achieved peacefully or through bloodshed.

It is also a fact that Khan is by far the most popular leader in the country at present, and any attempt to assassinate him is bound to trigger widespread chaos and angry protests.

‘My only demand is date for fair, free elections’: Imran

The former Pakistan prime minister has been at odds with the Shehbaz Sharif government and the country’s military establishment since his ouster from power in April this year….reports Asian Lite News

As Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) long march continues to head towards Islamabad, Imran Khan has reiterated that the only demand that he has had for the past six months is the date for an early, fair and free elections.

“For all those spreading rumours about my meeting in Lahore, the reason we returned was because Lahore was closer and we had already decided not move at night. The only demand I have had for 6 months is date for early fair and free elections. That will be the ONLY demand if talks are to be held,” he tweeted on October 29.

The former Pakistan prime minister has been at odds with the Shehbaz Sharif government and the country’s military establishment since his ouster from power in April this year. His party’s successive attack on the all-powerful military last week forced the country’s spy chief to hold a rare press conference admonishing the former PM.

After the PTI long march was announced, Khan said “unprecedented numbers coming out for PTI’s protests, that will change Pakistan forever. “Pak will change forever with nation making clear it will not accept any individual or institution being above law. This is what I set out to achieve in forming PTI 26 years ago,” he said.

Khan kicked off his “Haqeeqi Azadi Long March” from Lahore to Islamabad on October 28, telling supporters that his march was not for politics but for the ‘Haqeeqi Azadi’ of Pakistan.

The long march that started on Friday was suspended for one day on Sunday after a reporter was crushed to death by his container.

The long march was called off for the day after a reporter of a local TV channel, Sadaf Naeem died after she was crushed under PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s container, The Express Tribune reported.

“Shocked and deeply saddened by the terrible accident that led to the death of Channel 5 reporter Sadaf Naeem during our March today. I have no words to express my sorrow. My prayers and condolences go to the family at this tragic time. We have cancelled our March for today,” Imran Khan tweeted.

A day later on Monday, the PTI chief said for six months he has been witnessing a revolution taking over the country. “Only question is will it be a soft one through the ballot box or a destructive one through bloodshed?” he asked. (ANI)

Heated exchange between Imran, Shehbaz over army chief’s appointment

On the Indian media’s coverage of his attack on military officials, the PTI chief told the neighbouring country’s media that his party is standing with the army….reports Asian Lite News

Responding to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s claim that PTI chairman sought talks on the new army chief’s appointment, he said that he does not talk to “boot polishers”, local media reported.

“I spoke to those with whom Shehbaz hid in the trunk of the car to speak,” said Imran. He also questioned why he would send a message to the premier, he said while addressing the long march participants at Murdike, Geo News reported.

The former prime minister also said that he was not raised in a “military dictator’s nursery”, Geo News reported.

“I do not call Ayub Khan daddy like Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. I am not like Nawaz Sharif who build General Jilani’s home and pressed General Ziaul Haq’s knees to become a minister,” said the PTI leader, Geo News reported.

On the Indian media’s coverage of his attack on military officials, the PTI chief told the neighbouring country’s media that his party is standing with the army.

“I came to power with the people’s power not because of the establishment,” claimed Imran Khan, adding that he only seeks rule of law in the country and the protection of the people’s rights.

Continuing his attack on the coalition government, the PTI chief said that “former dictator Pervez Musharraf harmed the country by giving an NRO to these parties.”

Imran spews venom against an institution that raised him’

As the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) heads towards Islamabad with its long march, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday said that Imran Khan is spewing venom against an institution that “raised him”, local media reported.

To a question by a YouTuber in Lahore on the DG ISI’s presser, the premier said that the PTI chief “severely attacked” the Pakistan army. He added that the institution works for the defence of Pakistan, Geo News reported.

“This institution’s officers and troops, since Pakistan’s inception, have made numerous sacrifices be it wars or terrorism,” said the premier. He added that the army fought against terrorism at a time when no place in the country was safe.

“Then you spew venom against such an institution. Was there an illegal action taken? Tell me was the vote of no confidence illegal or unconstitutional?” asked Prime Minister Shehbaz.

He added that the former prime minister offered an extension to the army chief to ensure the failure of the vote of no-confidence that ousted him.

“He used to call me a boot polisher and whatnot and in order to defeat a constitutional action in parliament, Imran Khan made an unconstitutional offer,” said the Prime Minister, Geo News reported.

“He spews venom against an institution that raised him,” said the premier. He also reminded the audience that the institution removed all barriers to support his predecessor and gave him support that no one got as the premier in the country’s 75-year history.

“I say it in lighter vain that had we gotten 20% of that support, Pakistan would have sky rocketed under Mian Nawaz Sharif’s leadership,” said the Prime Minister. He added that the PTI chief “failed” despite all this support.

Giving an example of a car being pushed to start, the premier said that Khan failed despite getting all this push. He added that today the former prime minister uses Shehbaz Gill or Azam Swati to make statements against that institution.

Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa

“The things that Imran Khan is doing even an animal does not do that. Even a witch attacks after skipping three homes,” said the Prime Minister. He added that Khan will not be able to thank the institution all his life for the favours it did to him even if he tries to do it all his life, Geo News reported.

“They raised you and did whatnot. Got money from Saudi Arabia, China, Qatar and begged. Put everything at stake for Pakistan’s benefit,” said the premier.

On the DG ISI Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum’s presser with the military spokesperson, Prime Minister Shehbaz confirmed that the official had taken permission from him before addressing the media.

“I have never seen a liar like Imran Khan in my life,” said the Prime Minister.

Imran Khan’s absence from march raises eyebrows

PTI leaders Fawad Chaudhry and Punjab President Yasmin Rashid denied the party chief had left for any meeting…reports Asian Lite News

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s sudden disappearance from the party’s long march, soon after the sunset and party’s Secretary General Asad Umar announcing that Khan has left for Lahore to attend a “very important meeting”, left the media and the participants speculating, local media reported.

Earlier, the march had begun its second, but brief, leg from Shahdara with Khan continuing to hit out at two spy agency officers he has been referring to as “Dirty Harry”, calling them “savage”, and demanded the army chief investigate them, Dawn reported.

PTI leaders Fawad Chaudhry and Punjab President Yasmin Rashid denied the party chief had left for any meeting and insisted it was a pre-decided SOP that the march would not move in the dark owing to “security reasons”.

Amid rising speculation about talks underway between the PTI chief and the powers that be after his sudden departure from the procession, Imran Khan himself came on record to “rubbish” the rumours.

In only so many words, he tweeted: “For all those spreading rumours about my meeting in Lahore, the reason we returned was because Lahore was closer and we had already decided not to move at night. The only demand I have had for six months is date for early fair and free elections. That will be the only demand if talks are to be held,” Dawn reported.

Advantage India as Hong Kong announces new visa scheme

There are more than 42,000 Indians in Hong Kong, and nearly 33,000 of them hold Indian passports, says a July 2022 update on the website of Consulate General of India in Hong Kong…reports Asian Lite News

The vast Indian talent pool in fintech, logistics and banking sectors is set to benefit from Hong Kong’s new visa scheme, which was announced recently to stem a brain drain that has risked the city’s status as an international financial centre.

With the city’s workforce shrinking by about 140,000 people over the last two years, Chief Executive John Lee announced the “Top Talent Pass Scheme” this month, which includes incentives for high earners and top university graduates.

The scheme grants a two-year visa to individuals who earn no less than HK$2.5 million (US$318,000) annually, and graduates of the world’s top 100 universities with at least three years’ working experience over the past five years.

There are more than 42,000 Indians in Hong Kong, and nearly 33,000 of them hold Indian passports, says a July 2022 update on the website of Consulate General of India in Hong Kong.

“Increasingly, a large number of Indian professionals are coming to Hong Kong, working in the service industry, banking and finance, information technology, shipping, among others,” it said.

As per the government data, Hong Kong approved 1,034 visa applications from Indians under its general employment policy in 2021, and 560 applications in the first six months of 2022.

Prior to the pandemic, 2,684 visas were issued to Indian nationals in 2019 under the same general employment policy.

As far as the Indian talent pool in Hong Kong is concerned, the city has largely been able to retain it, as a result of which it remains a popular destination for prospective Indian workers who wish to move, industry insiders told South China Morning Post.

Hong Kong has been home to a large Indian community for more than 150 years, and its contribution to the city’s emergence as a hub of global finance and trade is well known.

Six public sector banks and two private sector banks from India are currently operating in Hong Kong.

According to the Consulate General of India in Hong Kong, numerous global financial majors, investment institutions and fund managers operating in India have their regional headquarters in Hong Kong.

Apart from a major sourcing centre for Indian companies, Hong Kong has also emerged as a major re-exporter of items it imports from India to Mainland China.

Due to their long presence, Indians have been able to integrate themselves into the mainstream Hong Kong society.

People from Sindh, Gujarat and Punjab form the largest component of the community, and there are more than 40 Indian associations present in Hong Kong that are run by diaspora/ people of Indian origin.

Gautam Bardoloi, president of the Forum of Indian Professionals in Hong Kong, told South China Morning Post that the “exodus from the city over the past two years had not been reflected in the Indian professional community”.

Also, with Lee announcing a slew of proposals including tax rebates, relaxed procedure for employers who recruit foreigners, as well as loosening immigration measures for overseas students by extending the limit of stay from one year to two — Hong Kong seems to be the right destination for skilled Indian workers as well as students.

Hong Kong was a former British colony handed to Chinese control in 1997. Many of its residents left in droves after a tough national security law was imposed, leading to crackdown on political dissent.

The city’s population in mid-2022 dropped 1.6 per cent from a year earlier, falling by 113,200 residents as of August, according to government statistics.

Last month, Singapore overtook Hong Kong in a ranking of global financial centres.

Imran begins long march with guns targeting spy chief

Seeking the attention of army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, the former Prime Minister said ISI chief and other intelligence officers were tarnishing the image of the institution.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has kicked off his much-awaited ‘Haqeeqi Azadi’ march towards Islamabad with a no-holds-barred speech targeting the countrys premier spy chief and other intelligence officers.

Addressing from atop a container at the starting point of the march, the Liberty Roundabout, Khan incriminated the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) director general (DG) for holding a “political presser”, and called out two other army officers for playing the role of “Dirty Harry” for picking up and torturing a party senator, Dawn news reported.

Seeking the attention of army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, the former Prime Minister said these officers were tarnishing the image of the institution.

On Thursday, in an unprecedented appearance at a media conference by a spy chief, ISI chief Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum spoke alongside armed forces’ spokesman Lt Gen Babar Iftikhar.

The officers alleged their leadership was being maligned for refusing to help the former premier through “illegal and extra-constitutional means” ahead of a confidence vote in parliament earlier this year and that Khan attempted to entice the army chief with an “indefinite extension” in a last-ditch attempt to save his government, Dawn reported.

Khan began his speech on Friday by castigating the ISI DG for claiming his organisation was apolitical and neutral.

He said the spy chief actually delivered a “political presser” and conveniently ignored any reference to the “group of thieves” that got its Rs1.1 trillion theft written off.

“I haven’t even heard (former interior minister) Sheikh Rashid conducting such a candid political news conference,” he quipped.

The former premier warned Gen Anjum that he also held many secrets, but was staying mum for the interests of the country and state institutions, Dawn reported.

(Photo Twitter@Hammad_Azhar)

“I am not like the absconder Nawaz Sharif that I will run away to London and then spew venom against the army,” he remarked, maintaining he had always done constructive criticism against the army and other state institutions because he wanted to see Pakistan an independent and sovereign state.

He also took on ISI DG-C Maj Gen Faisal Naseer and Islamabad Sector Commander Faheem Raza for allegedly picking up the party’s septuagenarian senator, Azam Swati, and torturing him.

The former premier further accused the officers of torturing party leader Dr Shahbaz Gill and journalist Jameel Farooqi.

Rare ISI presser demolishes Imran’s narrative

Talking more into the key pointers related to the journalist’s murder, Iftikhar said that Arshad Sharif was among many of those journalists who were fed with a propaganda based narrative built by Imran Khan..writes Hamza Ameer

Never in the history of Pakistan, a joint presser has been done by the DGISPR (Director General Inter-Services Public Relations) and DGISI (Director General Inter-Services Intelligence), that too with revelations that are not only explosive, but will also change the overall standing of the country’s politics, strategic political alliances and political agenda going forward.

On a day when slain Pakistani journalist and anchor Arshad Sharif, who was brutally killed in a shootout in Kenya allegedly in a case of mistaken identity (as per the Kenyan police authorities), was being laid to rest, the explosive joint press conference by DGISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar and DGISI Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum sent shockwaves to former Prime Minister Imran Khan, his narrative of a conspiracy that led to regime change in the country, and put serious questions over Imran Khan, a leading news channel’s owner Salman Iqbal and other elements that led to the killing of Arshad Sharif.

Arshad Sharif’s murder

The media talk was focused on talking about the tragic murder of Arshad Sharif in Kenya and the circumstances surrounding it.

“This press conference is being held in the context of presenting facts, so that facts, fiction and opinion can be differentiated. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been specifically informed about the sensitivity of the press conference,” said DGISPR Babar Iftikhar.

Talking more into the key pointers related to the journalist’s murder, Iftikhar said that Arshad Sharif was among many of those journalists who were fed with a propaganda based narrative built by Imran Khan in the wake of the cypher, which allegedly led to the regime change conspiracy in the country.

The DGISPR also stated that Arshad Sharif’s employer and prominent news channel ARY News played the role of a spin doctor in targeting the army, adding that its CEO Salman Iqbal should be brought back to Pakistan and investigated.

It was also revealed that the threat letter and alert that was issued by the Khyber Pukhtunkhwa (KP) government was fake, as the DGISPR confirmed that the intelligence agencies had no information of any such threat to Arshad Sharif.

“The threat letter by Khyber Pukhtunkhwa government was issued as part of the plan to create grounds to compel Arshad to leave Pakistan. Arshad did not want to leave Pakistan,” said Iftikhar.

“ARY CEO Salman Iqbal then asked for immediate arrangements for Arshad Sharif’s exit from Pakistan and he was given KP government’s protocol to fly from the Peshawar airport. His plane ticket was also booked and paid by ARY Digital,” added the DGISPR.

The DGISPR and the DGISI confirmed that no one forced Arshad Sharif to leave Pakistan as Sharif did not face any threat in the country.

The statements from the DGISPR and the DGISI can be seen as parallel to the recent claim by Imran Khan that he was the one who asked Arshad Sharif to leave Pakistan after he was informed of imminent threats form TTP (Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan) splinter groups, which, as per the ‘threat letter’, wanted to assassinate him.

It is also important to note that while Arshad Sharif was in Kenya since September, he was in contact with or either staying with two persons — Khurram Ahmed and Waqar Ahmed.

It was reported that Khurram Ahmed was driving the vehicle, which was sprayed with bullets by the Kenyan police, two of which hit Arshad in the head and the back. However, the driver remained unharmed. The first call that Khurram made after Arshad was shot was to ARY CEO Salman Iqbal, and not to his family or any other journalist. The farm house that Arshad was going to in Kenya is also owned by Salman Iqbal, which has raised even more questions over the contacts and connections related to Arshad’s killing.

The DGISPR and the DGISI emphasised that a thorough investigation should be conducted into the matter, and if a UN body, or an international independent body, is to be involved in it, it should be done on priority.

DGISI & DGISPR demolish Imran’s narrative

Demolishing former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s narrative that his government was ousted from power through a conspiracy, revealed through the cypher and implemented by his opposition political parties along with the military establishment in what he terms as a regime change, the DGISPR said the reality of the cypher and the March 27 narrative built through it was “far from reality” and in fact poles apart.

Babar Iftikhar said that the intelligence agencies and the military had already made it abundantly clear that there was no proof of a conspiracy in the cypher, a fact that was conveyed to the government clearly during the National Security Council (NSC) meeting.

However, he added that a different narrative was built in the name of regime change and its propaganda tools became journalists and social media influencers.

DGISI Nadeem Ahmed Anjum said that he was compelled and forced to come and do a joint press conference as “lies continued to be spread and kept repeating themselves, which were being accepted by majority of the youth of the country”.

“I also came today because opting to remain silent for long is not the right option when lies are becoming more vocal. Besides, it is necessary to determine the factors due to which a particular narrative is being built and people are being misled,” he said.

“Chief of Army staff (COAS) General Qamar Jawed Bajwa was also targeted and faced criticism. And attempts were made to create a divide in the society,” the DGISI added.

Talking about how Imran Khan waved a piece of paper during the March 27 public rally in Islamabad, Iftikhar said, “It was surprising for us when on March 27 a piece of paper was waved and an attempt was made to build a narrative that was far from reality.

“Several facts had come to light regarding the cypher revealing the baseless and unfounded narrative surrounding it. The Army was expected to intervene in domestic politics. The word neutral and apolitical was turned into an abuse. To all this baseless narrative, the Army chief and the institution showed restraint and we tried our best that politicians sit together to resolve their issues.”

Anjum said the nation has given him the responsibility to take secrets to the grave.

“But when needed and when necessary, I will bring those facts to light. Last year, the establishment decided that it would restrict itself to its constitutional role… The Army had an intense discussion and we reached the conclusion that the country’s benefit lies in us restricting ourselves to our constitutional role and remaining out of politics,” the DGISI said.

He said that in March, there was “a lot of pressure” but the institution and the Army chief decided to limit the military to its constitutional role.

The DGISI also slammed Imran Khan for openly targeting the military establishment in the day while meeting the same institution’s personnel during the night with a wish list of things he intended to see be done in order to bring him back into power.

“You (Imran Khan) meet quietly at night through the back door and express your unconstitutional wishes, but call the Army chief a traitor in broad daylight. That’s a big contradiction between your words and your actions,” Anjum said.

Anjum also said that Imran Khan had offered COAS Bajwa an unlimited extension in office in March, when the no-confidence motion was at its peak and the opposition parties were ganging up against Khan to oust his government from power.

“The offer was made because the no-confidence motion was at its peak,” he said.

The unprecedented and explosive press conference has opened up a new Pandora’s Box that would be a massive blow to Imran Khan’s upcoming long march, his narrative of regime change and his anti-establishment position.

In addition, the press conference directly hinted at Imran Khan and his KP government of being involved in the murder of Arshad Sharif, which in itself is a massive damage to Khan and will have an impact on his public support for the long march at large.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan said the incumbent rulers wanted to send him to jail so that people did not come out for street protests, The News reported.

Expressing his thoughts in an interview, Imran said: “They want to put me behind bars so that the masses could not pour onto the streets.” The former prime minister said that he would not accept the government without a two-thirds majority.

The PTI chief claimed that his long march will be marked in history as the “biggest” of all and went on to say that he will announce the long march date on Thursday. Taking a dig at the coalition government, Imran claimed that the rulers are not interested in strengthening democracy but are looking to stash money. To a question, Imran questioned what they would do with the Toshakhana gifts, adding that they would have to be sold in the end.

Condemned killing of journalist

Imran Khan on Monday condemned the killing of senior journalist Arshad Sharif, who was reportedly shot dead in Kenya.

“Shocked at the brutal murder of Arshad Sharif who paid the ultimate price for speaking the truth – his life. He had to leave the country and be in hiding abroad but he continued to speak the truth on social media, exposing the powerful. Today the entire nation mourns his death,” Khan tweeted.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief has called for a proper judicial investigation in the case. “We have descended into a state of brutality, unknown in civilised society, indulged in by the powerful against those who dare to criticise and expose wrongdoings,” he said in a subsequent tweet.

Arshad Sharif’s wife Javeria Siddique earlier today informed that his husband died in Kenya after being shot.

“I lost friend, husband and my favourite journalist @arsched today, as per police he was shot in Kenya. Imran challenges Toshakhana verdict

Imran Khan asked the IHC to declare, find and hold the ECP order against the settled principles of law in Article 63 of the Constitution.

PTI chairman Imran Khan Saturday moved the Islamabad High Court, challenging the order of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that disqualified him in the Toshakhana case, Pakistan media reported.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman asked the IHC to declare, find and hold the ECP order against the settled principles of law in Article 63 of the Constitution, according to reported Geo News.

He further requested the IHC to say that ECP should not have exercised the jurisdiction to decide any questions of ‘corrupt practice or disqualification’ under Section 137, read with Section 232 of the Election Act, and further read with Rule 137 of the Election Rules, 2017.

The reference itself is incompetent, illegal, unlawful and without lawful authority, mala-fide and devoid of force and in the circumstance of the instant case declare it null and void in the interest of justice, Imran further asked the court to say as per Geo News.

Imran Khan also requested to suspend the operation of the order and restrain further proceedings till the final disposal of the petition.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), on Friday, in its verdict in the Toshakhana case, disqualified Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief and former Prime Minister Imran Khan and ruled that he is no more a Member of the National Assembly.

After the ruling came on Friday, clashes erupted between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers and police leading to violent unrest in the country.

Imran Khan at PTI Azadi March(twitter)

Based on this, the Islamabad Police, booked several PTI leaders after protests broke out across the country in wake of Imran Khan’s disqualification by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), reported Dawn on Saturday.

The complaint has been registered against PTI senator Faisal Javed Khan and six other leaders Amir Kiani, Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi, Faisal Javed Khan, Raja Rashid Hafeez, Umer Tanveer Butt, Rashid Naseem Abbasi, Raja Majid on “terrorism charges”.

As per the police, they were leading the “unlawful gathering” and were informed through a loudspeaker to disperse immediately.

As per the FIR, police had received information that a possible decision can come against the PTI chief. Several officers were present at Faizabad to maintain law, order and security in the area. But around 8 pm, a large PTI rally of around 1000-1200 people started moving towards Faizabad carrying rods and sticks.

The FIR alleged that those leading the group incited the demonstrators, after which they started pelting stones at the police, Frontier Constabulary (FC) and administration leaving several police officers injured.

The demonstrators further advanced with the “intent to kill”. They made the announcement that they don’t accept any law and would reach the Election Commission of Pakistan at any cost.

The crowd attacked the police force, disturbed the law and order situation, set fire to trees, damaged official property, injured police officers and spread “fear and harassment” among the public, the FIR stated as per Dawn.

The FIR further requested the appointment of an investigation officer for the case.

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa

Earlier on Friday, in the Toshakhana case hearing, Imran Khan’s counsel Ali Zafar admitted that his client had sold at least four presents he had received during 2018-19.

“The gifts were sold for Rs 58 million and their receipts were enclosed with the income tax returns filed by my client,” the lawyer apprised the ECP.

Meanwhile, in August, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) filed the reference claiming that Khan had paid for only some items that he took home from the ‘Toshakhana’, but most items that he took from the government treasure house were done so without paying for them.

In the reference, it was alleged that Khan did not disclose the gifts he took and concealed the information in his statements, reported Geo news.

Reportedly, gifts received by government officials are to be reported immediately, to enable their value to be assessed. Only after an assessment is conducted can the recipient take away the gift, if he wants to keep it, after depositing a specific amount.

These gifts either remain deposited in the Toshakhana or can be auctioned and the money acquired through it is to be deposited into the national treasury.

Last month, the former Pakistan Prime Minister sold three expensive watches from the government treasure house collectively worth more than 154 million Pakistani rupees (PKR) to a local watch dealer, media reports said.

Imran Khan reportedly earned millions of rupees from these jewel-class watches gifted to him by foreign dignitaries, The News International newspaper reported. (ANI)
