The handover of this section to the GoN was done during the recent visit of Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal to India last month. The Kurtha-Bijalpura line covers a total of 17.3 km and this stretch is dotted with 5 stations namely Kurtha, Pipradi, Loharpatti, Singyahi and Bijalpura.

This is the second phase of the Jaynagar-Bijalpura-Bardibas cross-border rail line project being constructed under grant assistance by the Government of India at the total project cost of INR 783.83 Crores.

In his remarks, Minister Jwala thanked the Government of India for its continuous support in the development of the infrastructure in Nepal including in the rail sector. He highlighted that this rail connectivity will provide a tremendous boost to the people-to-people linkages between the two countries and will enhance trade and tourism in Nepal.

DCM, Shrivastava, in his remarks, highlighted the continued commitment of the Government of India to work towards further strengthening the development partnership for the benefit of the people of both countries.

The implementation of this project will bring reliable, affordable and fast transportation to new areas in Nepal. This project is one element of the series of connectivity projects which are presently being implemented by India in Nepal. These will further lead to enhancing physical connectivity between India and Nepal, which forms an important element of the Government of India’s Neighbourhood First policy. (ANI)

The open borders of India and Nepal should not be misused by unwanted elements, said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday during his statement after delegation level meeting with Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Both the leaders also discussed various aspects of cooperation, reviewed the progress of various projects and also discussed the blueprint for the future.

“Today we also discussed that the open borders of India and Nepal should not be misused by unwanted elements. We also stressed on maintaining close cooperation between our defence and security institutions. I am sure that our talks today will go a long way in setting ambitious goals for the future of India-Nepal relations,” Modi said.

In 2020, India and Nepal had a strained bilateral relationship over border row between the two countries. China which already had made aggression towards India at the Line of Actual Control in Eastern Ladakh region was making all efforts to amplify the row between India and Nepal relations.

“Our Joint Vision Statement on Power Cooperation will prove to be the blueprint of cooperation, in the future,” said Modi adding that both the leaders have expressed agreement on more participation of Indian companies in Nepal’s hydropower development projects.

“It is a matter of happiness that Nepal is exporting its surplus power to India. This will make positive contributions to the economic development of Nepal,” he said.

Deuba to visit Varanasi during India visit

This will be his first visit to India after becoming Prime Minister of the Himalayan nation in July 2021, reports Asian Lite News

Nepalese Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba will visit Varanasi during his official visit to India from April 1 to 3.

As per the itinerary, he will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 2.

This will be his first visit to India after becoming Prime Minister of the Himalayan nation in July 2021. He has visited India in each of his four earlier stints as PM. His last visit to India was in 2017.

This visit is a part of the tradition of periodic high-level exchanges between the two countries. It would give an opportunity to both sides to review the entire gamut of bilateral relations including development and economic partnership, trade, cooperation in the health sector, power, connectivity, people to people links and other issues of mutual interest.

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi meeting the Prime Minister of Nepal, Shri Sher Bahadur Deuba, in Glasgow, Scotland on November 02, 2021.

This comes after Chinese Foreign Minister and State Councilor Wang Yi’s conclusion of his three-day visit to Nepal.

Wang’s Nepal visit comes in the backdrop of Nepal ratifying the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact, a grant of USD 500 million developmental assistance from the US to Kathmandu, seen as a setback for China.

The Chinese official, associated with China’s diplomatic corps in Kathmandu, said that in the lead up to the compact’s endorsement, there was a lack of coordination among the Chinese agencies handling Nepal. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, he also said the communication gap between Beijing and the Chinese Embassy was also growing, according to the Annapurna Express article.

Nepal’s federal parliament did ratify the compact, as the Americans wished, but in the run-up to ratification, Beijing tried hard to stop it.

It sees the USD 500 million development grant to Nepal as a part of America’s strategy to encircle China, the article noted. (ANI)
