BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that proud moment for everyone as India creates the Guinness World Record….reports Asian Lite News
New Delhi, Nov 27 (IANS) BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Sunday tweeted that the IPL 2022 final, which was held earlier this year, has set a Guinness World Record for the largest attendance in a T20 match.
“Extremely delighted & proud to receive the Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a T20 match when 101,566 people witnessed the epic @IPL final at @GCAMotera’s magnificent Narendra Modi Stadium on 29 May 2022. A big thanks to our fans for making this possible! @BCCI”, tweeted Shah.
In the final which was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, a determined Gujarat Titans, led by all-rounder Hardik Pandya, made their maiden IPL season an unforgettable one by lifting the title at their home ground in a seven-wicket win over Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals.
“A proud moment for everyone as India creates the Guinness World Record. This one is for all our fans for their unmatched passion and unwavering support. Congratulations to @GCAMotera and @IPL,” tweeted the BCCI.
By finishing off a chase of 131 with 11 balls remaining and defeating Rajasthan for the third time in IPL 2022 after losing the toss, Gujarat capped off a season where they exceeded everyone’s pre-tournament expectations to become champions in their debut season of the competition.
Pandya led the Gujarat Titans from the front with an all-round performance, picking figures of 3/17 in his four overs with the ball and making 34 off 30 balls with the bat, and picked the Player of the Match award in the final.
CSK were in a spot of bother at 36-2 after 6.4 overs but Uthappa and Dube took RCB bowlers to the cleaners and stitched a whopping 165 runs off just 74 balls for the third wicket, helping the team post a big total…reports Asian Lite News
Superlative bowling performance by Maheesh Theekshana (4/33) and skipper Ravindra Jadeja (3/39) and brilliant knocks by Shivam Dube and Robin Uthappa helped Chennai Super Kings beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 23 runs in an IPL 2022 match and register their first win of the season at the D Y Patil Stadium, here on Tuesday.
Sensational counter-attacking half-centuries by Shivam Dube (95 not out off 46) and Robin Uthappa (88 off 50) propelled Chennai Super Kings to a mammoth 216/4 in 20 overs. CSK were in a spot of bother at 36-2 after 6.4 overs but Uthappa and Dube took RCB bowlers to the cleaners and stitched a whopping 165 runs off just 74 balls for the third wicket, helping the team post a big total.
Chasing a huge total, RCB were off to a poor start as they lost three key wickets inside the powerplay. Skipper Faf du Plessis (8), who mis-hit a delivery by Maheesh Theekshana to long-on, was the first one to get dismissed. Very soon, Virat Kohli (1) picked out the fielder in the deep on the on-side off Mukesh Chouhdary.
Attacking batter Glenn Maxwell tried to put the pressure back on Theekshana and CSK with back-to-back sixes in the sixth over. However, the Sri Lankan spinner continued to impress by dismissing Anuj Rawat (12) in the same over with a carrom ball as RCB were reduced to 42/3. Maxwell looked like he was connecting his shots but he too had to walk after he was castled by the arm ball from Ravindra Jadeja.
However, the next batters — Suyash Prabhudessai and Shahbaz Ahmed — had a 60 run partnership for the 5th wicket and they brought RCB back in the game. Debutant Prabhudessai showed his innovativeness during his enterprising 18-ball 34 knock before he was cleaned up by Theekshana.
On the other hand, Shahbaz also played a fine hand of 41 while the in-form Dinesh Karthik took over with an attacking 14-ball 34. Karthik targeted Mukesh Choudhary in the 17th over with two sixes and a four in a 23-run over, but he lacked support at the other end. Eventually, Karthik, who got out in the 18th over, had too much to do as RCB could manage 193/9 on the board in the stipulated 20 overs.
Earlier, put in to bat first, the out-of-form CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad got off to a good start but he couldn’t carry his innings longer and fell on 17 to Josh Hazlewood. Thereafter, Moeen Ali (3), who came out to bat at No 3 then got run out courtesy of a terrible mix-up between two CSK batters and a sensational fielding effort from RCB debutant Suyash Prabhudessai.
After getting the big wickets of Ruturaj and Moeen, RCB were on top but Dube and Uthappa had other plans. The duo took their time to settle down as CSK reached 60/2 after 10 overs.
From there on, both batters decided to free their arms and scored 13, 13, 19, 13, 15 runs each in overs 11 to 15. With 8 wickets in hand, CSK were batting freely and it was getting tough for RCB to stem the flow of runs as many as 83 runs were scored in the last 5 overs.
During their important stand, Uthappa smashed 9 sixes and four boundaries while Dube hit eight sixes and five fours. Shivam Dube’s knock of 95 not out has also become the highest individual score in a CSK-RCB encounter equalling 95 by Murali Vijay in IPL 2011 final in Chennai.
For RCB, Akash Deep conceded 58 runs in his four, while the otherwise economical Wanindu Hasaranga gave away 35 in his two overs and picked two wickets. The most economical on the night was Hazlewood (1/33), but even he went for over-8 an over.
Brief scores: Chennai Super Kings 216/4 in 20 overs (Shivam Dube 95 not out, Robin Uthappa 88; Wanindu Hasaranga 2/35, Josh Hazlewood 1/33) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore 193/9 in 20 overs (Shahbaz Ahmed 41, Suyash Prabhudessai 34, Dinesh Karthik 34; Maheesh Theekshana 4/33, Ravindra Jadeja 3/39) by 23 runs.
“Mumbai Indians will also play a couple of inter-squad practice matches towards the second week of the camp,” the franchise said in a media release…reports Asian Lite News
Five-time champions Mumbai Indians on Tuesday started their preparation for the upcoming IPL 2022 season.
The Rohit Sharma-led side will open their campaign against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium on March 27. Before that, the 12-day strength and conditioning pre-season camp is being held at their in-house training facility at Reliance Jio Stadium in neighbouring Navi Mumbai.
“Mumbai Indians will also play a couple of inter-squad practice matches towards the second week of the camp,” the franchise said in a media release.
The first day training session was preceded with player assessment analysis by the coaching staff lead by director of cricket Zaheer Khan and coach Mahela Jayawardene.
In the upcoming days, Mumbai Indians coaching staff will look at upskilling their young domestic and international recruits through individual sessions, game situations, mental aspects and physical fitness. Joining Zaheer and Mahela on this task will be Shane Bond, Robin Singh, Kiran More, Rahul Sanghvi, Vinay Kumar, TA Sekar, Paul Chapman and data analyst CKM Dhananjai.

If the move happens, it will be the second time South Africa would host the IPL after the 2009 edition was shifted there due to the general elections in India….reports Asian Lite News
South Africa could be in the fray to host the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), according to a newspaper report on Thursday. The report said that Sri Lanka could be a backup venue option if the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in India doesn’t end by early April.
In 2021, the 14th edition of the IPL in India was suspended after May 4 due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic breaching the bio-bubbles of various teams. The remainder of the tournament was then played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with Chennai Super Kings winning the final on October 15 in Dubai.
“We can”t be dependent on UAE all the time so we decided to explore more options, South Africa’s time difference also works out well for the players,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying in The Indian Express.
With the addition of two new IPL teams in Lucknow and Ahmedabad, the 2022 edition of the IPL will be very long. If the move happens, it will be the second time South Africa would host the IPL after the 2009 edition was shifted there due to the general elections in India.
What has helped build South Africa’s case is that they gave the Indian team, currently in the country for a three-match Test series followed by an ODI series of as many matches, good hotels and resorts where they are staying in a bio-secure bubble environment.
The Indian team stayed at the Irene Country Lodge for the first two Test matches and are currently living in The Taj Hotel in Cape Town.
“The place where the team was staying for the second Test is spread over several acres. There were walking tracks and even a pond on the property and that has made things easier for the players who for the last couple of years or so have been confined to their rooms on several overseas tours,” further said an official.
Incidentally, India’s tour to South Africa was under huge uncertainty due to the Omicron variant causing a surge in cases in the Rainbow Nation. Eventually, the tour dates were rescheduled and the T20I leg shifted to a later date. But with cases coming down in South Africa, it could be an ideal destination for IPL to take place if the third wave in India continues into April 2022.
