Upon the instructions from Morocco’s king, the condemnation was delivered directly to the Head of the Israeli liaison office in Rabat, according to the statement.

Israeli police storm al-Aqsa mosque compound amid tensions

Israeli police stormed the flashpoint al-Aqsa mosque compound in East Jerusalem on Sunday, with at least 10 people injured during the ensuing clashes…reports AsianLite News

Early on Sunday, Israeli police forces dispersed Palestinians from the large plaza outside the mosque, while dozens remained inside and chanted “God is great”, Xinhua news agency reported, citing a statement issued by the police.

The police said they entered the compound to clear rocks and other barriers stockpiled by Palestinians overnight on the sidewalk used by Jews to visit the site. The police are “committed to facilitating freedom of worship for Jews and Muslims,” the statement read.

Shortly later, Palestinians reported clashes outside the mosque, in which at least ten people were injured by Israeli security forces, according to a statement issued by the Palestinian Red Crescent.

Israeli police said the clashes began after Palestinians inside the mosque tossed fireworks at the plaza.

Furthermore on Sunday in East Jerusalem, Palestinians hurled stones at buses en route to the Old City, where the al-Aqsa mosque compound is located. Israel’s Magen David Adom emergency health service said in a statement that at least five Jews were lightly injured, including a 14-year-old boy and the bus driver.

Two Palestinian suspects were arrested for hurling the stones, the police said.

The Al-Aqsa Mosque compound is a flashpoint site holy to both Muslims and Jews. It is located in East Jerusalem, a territory captured by Israel along with the rest of the West Bank in the 1967 Middle East war. Israel annexed it shortly later in a move not recognized by most of the international community.

On Friday, at least 152 Palestinians were injured in clashes with the Israeli police at the compound.

Escalating tensions between Israel and the Palestinians over the past three weeks — including four deadly attacks in Israel, some of them carried out by Palestinian citizens of Israel — raised fears of a slide back into a broader conflict.

In a clash that took place on Friday, five were shot by live ammunition, four by rubber bullets, and dozens suffered from inhaling tear gas, Xinhua news agency reported citing the Palestine Red Crescent Society.

Dozens of anti-settlement demonstrators burned tyres and threw stones at the Israeli soldiers stationed on the outskirts of the villages, said eyewitnesses.

Israeli authorities have not given any comment on the incidents.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said in a statement that since January, 42 Palestinians had been killed by Israeli soldiers in the West Bank, including women and children. In the meantime, 14 Israelis have been killed in a series of shooting attacks in Israel since March 22.

Palestinian factions, including the Fatah Party led by President Mahmoud Abbas and Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), condemned the current escalation of tension in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Jordan Welcomes UNESCO resolution On Old Jerusalem

Jordan has welcomed a resolution adopted by UNESCO on old Jerusalem and its walls, which said all Israeli procedures aiming to change the identity of the holy city and its legal status quo are null and void…reports Asian Lite News

Jordan’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Haitham Abu Al-Foul said the resolution was unanimously adopted by UNESCO Executive Board on Wednesday during its 214th session, according to a statement by the Ministry.

The official said the resolution is a result of Jordanian diplomatic efforts in coordination with Palestinians and the Arab and Islamic groups at the UN organisation, according to the statement.

The resolution calls on Israel to stop its provocations and unilateral illegal procedures against Haram Al-Sharif, also known as the Temple Mount, including the Al-Aqsa mosque, as well as the Old City of Jerusalem and its walls, Al-Foul said.

The resolution calls for speeding up procedures to dispatch a monitoring mission from UNESCO to Jerusalem to inspect all violations committed by Israel, the statement indicated.

Al-Foul noted that the resolution is in line with the Jordanian stance towards the Old City of Jerusalem and its walls, Xinhua news agency reported.

Palestine has called on intervention from the international community to stop the recent tension between Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Palestine called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to “investigate the violations and the assaults of the Israeli army and the Israeli settlers against the Palestinians”, Xinhua news agency quoted the Foreign Ministry here as saying in a statement.

“These crimes are an explicit call to explode the situation and ignite violence and chaos during the holy month of Ramadan,” the statement said.

The Ministry called on the international community to ensure international protection for the Palestinians in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip.

Since March 31, at least six Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers in the West Bank, including three members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ).

The US-sponsored peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians broke down in 2014 following deep differences on borders, security, and Israeli settlement between the two sides.

Since then, there have been no diplomatic ties between Israelis and Palestinians because of the latter’s rejection of the Israeli expansion of settlements and measures in East Jerusalem.

Israel seized the West Bank and Gaza Strip in the 1967 Middle East war and has controlled them ever since.

The Palestinians seek to establish an independent state on these territories with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Ishtaye has said that the Palestinian Authority is following with concerns Israel’s latest moves in the region.

Ishtaye made the remarks as Israel is hosting a conference with the foreign ministers from the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco and Egypt, as well as US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in the Negev desert region in southern Israel.

“The Palestinian Authority follows with concerns the moves and actions Israel is taking in the region. It ignores the issues of a people: half of them are under the Israeli occupation and the other half live in refugee camps and the Diaspora,” Ishtaye said.

Israel’s attempts to disregard the rights of the Palestinian people, expand settlements, erect checkpoints, and kill, arrest and destroy opportunities for peace have made the Palestinians more determined to confront it, he noted.

Speaking of the Arab normalization with Israel, the Palestinian prime minister said such normalization “without ending the Israel occupation is an illusion, a mirage and a free reward for Israel.”

“The Palestinian people can thwart all plans aimed at undermining their right to independence, sovereignty, and freedom,” he added.

The two-day conference starting on Sunday marks the first time Israel has hosted a meeting with Arab foreign ministers.

The Israeli public radio reported that the six officials would discuss the formation of a regional defense alliance to deal with Iranian drone attacks and other threats.

Al-Foul noted that the resolution is in line with the Jordanian stance towards the Old City of Jerusalem and its walls, Xinhua news agency reported.

Earlier this week, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Jordanian King Abdullah II talked over the phone on the bilateral ties and the recent deadly attacks in Israel.

Bennett congratulated Abdullah II on the holy Muslim month of Ramadan, and thanked the king for his “clear statement against the terrorist attacks that have taken place in Israel in recent days,” the prime minister’s office said in a statement.

The two discussed the “importance of the cooperation between the two countries and the continuous ties and dialogues,” the statement said without further elaboration.

The talk came three days after Israel’s President Isaac Herzog travelled to Amman to meet the Jordanian king, asking him to help calm the tensions between Israel and the Palestinians.

Israel and Jordan signed a peace treaty in 1994.

Palestine warns Israel against eviction in East Jerusalem

Palestine has warned Israel against evicting Palestinian families from their homes in East Jerusalem…reports Asian Lite News

“The Israeli attempts to evict the Salhiya family from their home in Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood fall within the framework of forced displacement,” said President Mahmoud Abbas in a statement, stressing that the actions contravened international and humanitarian law.

The statement said Israel’s use of force for eviction and approval of building thousands of settlement units would escalate tensions in the Palestinian territories, reports Xinhua news agency.

The evacuation “might be a prelude to a process of forced displacement of dozens of Palestinian families from their homes in East Jerusalem”, the statement added.

Sheikh Jarrah saw several confrontations between Palestinian protesters and Israeli police in the aftermath of an Israeli court’s verdict to evict Palestinian families.
