Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met his UAE counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and discussed a wide range of areas of bilateral cooperation including trade and investment.

“Strengthening India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership! PM @narendramodi met VP & PM of UAE @HHShkMohd in Dubai. Discussions covered a wide range of areas of bilateral cooperation including trade & investment, technology, education, and people-to-people ties,” said a post on the official X handle of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

In another meeting with Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina, PM Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to further strengthen India-Madagascar partnership and help in the developmental journey of his island nation.

A first meeting between the two leaders, PM Modi and Rajoelina met on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit here.

“Both leaders recognized the long-standing friendly relations and ancient geographical ties between the two countries. They discussed ways to advance bilateral ties and appreciated the close cooperation between the two countries in various multilateral fora, including the UN,” an MEA statement said.

Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to “further strengthen India-Madagascar partnership” and to Vision SAGAR – Security and Growth for All in the Region, it said.

Modi also conveyed that as a fellow developing country in the Indian Ocean Region, India will remain a committed partner in the developmental journey of Madagascar, the MEA added.

Modi, while speaking at the Summit, elaborated on a wide range of subjects that strengthened the conversations around building a better planet and also sought reforms in global governance institutions.

After signing multiple bilateral agreements with the UAE, and attending the high-voltage ‘Ahlan Modi’ event that saw massive participation from the Indian diaspora, Modi is set to inaugurate the largest Hindu stone temple in Abu Dabhi.

After attending the World Governments Summit, he is headed to Doha to meet the leadership in Qatar as part of his two-day visit to the Gulf region.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met his Madagascar counterpart Rafaravavitafika Rasata on the sidelines of the 7th Indian Ocean Conference in Perth on Saturday.

The two leaders, as they met, discussed bilateral relations shared by India and Madagascar.

In a post on social media platform X, Jaishankar wrote, ” Nice to meet FM @rafaravavitafi1 of Madagascar on the sidelines of the 7th Indian Ocean Conference.” “Discussed our bilateral relations that we hope to deepen,” he added.

On the sidelines of the 7th Indian Ocean Conference, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Australian counterpart, Senator Penny Wong, held discussions in Perth on Friday on a spectrum of global issues, including the Indo-Pacific and the situation in West Asia.

The meeting commenced with a warm exchange between EAM Jaishankar and FM Wong. Both leaders expressed delight at the opportunity to strengthen the bilateral relationship.

The talks primarily centred around the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and Australia. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in various domains, with a particular focus on matters related to the Indian Ocean region.

Jaishankar is currently in Australian city of Perth on a two-day 7th Indian Ocean Conference.

The Conference is a flagship consultative forum for countries in the Indian Ocean Region, organised annually by the Ministry of External Affairs in association with the India Foundation. The conference is held in association with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Government of Australia, along with the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Singapore, and the Perth-US Asia Centre in Australia.

The theme of this edition of the conference is Towards a Stable and Sustainable Indian Ocean.

India’s Top Secy’s Visit Boost India-Madagascar Ties

Ministry of External Affairs’ Secretary (Economic Relations) Dammu Ravi paid a three-day visit to Madagascar from December 15 to 17 and interacted with prominent Malagasy business leaders to discuss ways to enhance trade-economic cooperation between the two countries.

Dammu Ravi represented Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the investiture ceremony of President of Madagascar Andry Rajoelina on December 16.

A Ministry of External Affairs release said that Dammu Ravi reached Antananarivo in Madagascar on December 15 and interacted with prominent Malagasy business leaders and “discussed ways to further enhance trade-economic cooperation between India and Madagascar”.

” On December 16, 2023, Secretary (ER) represented Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Investiture Ceremony of President of Madagascar Andry Rajoelina. He also paid a courtesy call on President Andry Rajoelina and conveyed best wishes of Prime Minister Modi for a successful second tenure of the President and for further strengthening of India-Madagascar partnership and Vision SAGAR,” the release said.

On the sidelines of the Investiture Ceremony, Dammu Ravi briefly interacted with President of Comoros and current Chairperson of the African Union Azali Assoumani and conveyed warm greetings of Prime Minister Modi for stronger India-Africa Partnership.

Secretary (ER) took part in an Indian community reception hosted by the Embassy of India in Antananarivo on December 16 evening.

“Secretary (ER) spoke about the ongoing India’s economic transformation under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi and encouraged the local Indian diaspora to contribute towards stronger trade-economic cooperation and people-to-people linkages between India and Madagascar,” the release said.

It said the official visit of Secretary (ER) to Antananarivo reaffirmed India’s commitment to further strengthen its traditional ties of friendship with Madagascar.

“As a close neighbour and fellow developing country in the Indian Ocean Region, India will remain a reliable and committed development partner for Madagascar,” the release said. (ANI)

Dammu Ravi, the Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (Economic Relations), interacted with Comoros President and African Union Chairperson Azali Assoumani in Madagascar.

He conveyed the best wishes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards strengthening the India-Africa partnership.

“Secretary (ER) Shri Dammu Ravi interacted with President of Comoros & Chairperson of African Union H.E. Mr. Azali Assoumani @PR_AZALI in Antananarivo today and conveyed best wishes from Prime Minister @narendramodi to further strengthen India-Africa Partnership,” the Indian Embassy in Madagascar and Comoros posted on X (formerly Twitter).

MEA Secretary also participated in the investiture ceremony of Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina and conveyed PM Modi’s wishes for the SAGAR vision and India-Madagascar ties.

“Secretary (ER) Shri Dammu Ravi took part in today’s Investiture Ceremony of President of Madagascar @SE_Rajoelina in Antananarivo and conveyed best wishes from Prime Minister @narendramodi for further strengthening of India-Madagascar partnership and Vision SAGAR,” the Indian Embassy stated.

Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) is India’s policy or doctrine of maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean region. The policy was first announced by PM Modi on March 12, 2015.

Earlier on Saturday, Ravi also attended the ‘Indian Community Reception’ event in Antananarivo, where he encouraged the Indian diaspora to contribute towards stronger India and Madagascar ties.

The members of the Indian community presented several cultural performances at the event.

Ravi had arrived in Madagascar on December 15. He was warmly received at Antananarivo Airport by the Secretary General of Malagasy, Tahirimiakadaza Ratsimandao and Ambassador Bandaru Wilsonbabu. (ANI)

INS Sharda Bolsters Ties During Madagascar Port Visit

Indian Navy Ship (INS) Sharda is on a visit to Port Antsiranana, Madagascar, from November 17-23 as part of an ongoing operational deployment.

The ship’s visit aims to strengthen bridges of friendship and the Indian Navy’s sustained efforts towards ensuring maritime security in the region by partnering with regional navies in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR), as per an official release.

On arrival, the Commanding Officer of INS Sharda called on the Governor of the Diana region of Madagascar, Arona Daodo Marisiky and the Commander of the Malagasy Naval Base in Antsiranana, Captain Raorasata Dibiharivony Gislain.

The ship will participate in various professional interactions and training exchanges with the Malagasy Navy during the visit, as per the release.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recently called on his Madagascar counterpart, Yvette Sylla, as part of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the 78th United Nations General Assembly session in New York City.

During the meeting, EAM Jaishankar discussed a partnership in aspects of food production and the defence sector with the Madagascar Foreign Minister.

Taking to his official handle on X, EAM Jaishankar posted, “A warm meeting with our SAGAR partner, FM of Madagascar, Yvette Sylla today. Discussed development partnership, millets and rice production, digital delivery and defence cooperation.”

Madagascar is a SAGAR partner of India. Launched in 2020, Mission SAGAR is a global initiative along the lines of the Sagar doctrine. India launched this mission to provide relief aid to Indian Ocean countries following the COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative covers the Maldives, Mauritius, Madagascar, Comoros, and Seychelles.
