Mammootty’s ‘Christopher’ hits theatres

If this film turns out to be a block buster, it would do more good for the director than to the superstar, as it’s been a while that Unnikrishnan has delivered as he did in the early years of his career…reports Asian Lite News

Continuing to enthral audience and fans at 71, veteran superstar Mammootty is all pumped up ahead of the arrival of ‘Christopher’ in theatres on Thursday. He plays a vigilante cop in the film.

Explaining briefly what ‘Christopher’ is all about, he said that he plays the role of a police official and makes no bones about taking the law into hands.

“Every character has a tale and like that Christopher too has one and it moves forward. Now let us see,” said the superstar.

Directed by B. Unnikrishnan who is known for ‘loud’ and expensive films, the two are returning after 12 years and for just the second time. Unnikrishnan is popularly known for directing superstar Mohanlal.

If this film turns out to be a block buster, it would do more good for the director than to the superstar, as it’s been a while that Unnikrishnan has delivered as he did in the early years of his career.

For Mammootty, 2022 turned out to be a good year and 2023 has also begun on a strong footing with his ‘Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam’ receiving critical acclaim when it premiered at the International Film Festival of Kerala.

Mammootty has rarely let down his fans and audience when he played a cop. Films like Yavanika, Avanazhi, Inspector Balram and Balram vs. Tharadas, The Truth, Kasaba, Unda and not to mention the CBI officer in a record 5 sequels to Oru CBI Diary Kuripu are names that have become part of the Malayalam film industry lexicon.

The veteran is supremely confident that he will not let down his fans, audience and director Unnikrishnan.

For his fans he said: “Go to the movie halls and see the film as many times as possible.”

‘Salute’ and ‘Puzhu’ take direct to digital route

Talking about the film, Dulquer Salmaan said, “It was a great experience working on ‘Salute’. I have always been drawn to roles which push me beyond my comfort zone and challenge me as an actor.”…reports Asian Lite News

Malayalam films ‘Salute’ and ‘Puzhu’ are taking a direct to digital route. While ‘Salute’ is an investigative drama starring Dulquer Salman, ‘Puzhu’ is a crime thriller which stars Dulquer’s father and superstar Mammootty.

Both the films will be launching directly on SonyLIV although their release dates are yet to be announced.

‘Salute’ is a grounded procedural drama, where Dulquer will be seen essaying the role of a cop, Aravind Karunkaran. The film follows a non-linear narrative as it cuts between the past and the present-day scenario, where, a once committed and fiery sub inspector, Salmaan has been reduced to a disgraced cop, aching for a shot at redemption.

Talking about the film, Dulquer Salmaan said, “It was a great experience working on ‘Salute’. I have always been drawn to roles which push me beyond my comfort zone and challenge me as an actor.”

Directed by Rosshan Andrews, ‘Salute’ marks the Malayalam debut of Bollywood actress Diana Penty and it will also star Manoj K Jayan in a pivotal role. The film produced by Wayfarer Films, is written by the writer-duo of Bobby and Sanjay.

“Bobby and Sanjay have done a remarkable job with the script. It is an intriguing and taut thriller with the characters going through various emotional conflicts and bearing the consequences of their actions. I have always admired Rosshan Andrews’ craft, and it was an honour to work with him. This is very different than the other films I have done so far, and I cannot wait for the audiences to watch it”, Dulquer added.

‘Puzhu’, on the other hand, is an intense family thriller, which present Mammootty in a grey shade.

Mammootty spoke about the film as he said, “The story of Puzhu excited me the most. As an actor, it has always been my aim to keep reinventing myself, and to take up newer, more exciting projects. Puzhu marks another step in that direction.”

“We tried to tell a story that we believed in and put our hearts into. Hope the viewers like what they see”, the senior actor added.

The film promises to be a gripping thriller around a father and son and the underlying family dynamics and trust issues that follow. Dulquer will also be producing ‘Puzhu’ under his banner along with S George’s Cyn Cyl Celluloid. Helmed by debutante director Ratheena PT, the film will also star Parvathy Thiruvothu in the lead.

Mammukka @ SWEET 70!

Mammootty, more popularly known as Mammukka to all, witnessed his career graph take an upward turn after Sulfath walked into his life and his star run has continued unabated over the decades…reports Asian Lite News.

On the eve of one of Kerala’s most popular icons, superstar Mammootty’s 70th birthday, can we say that the good old adage of “behind every successful man is a woman” is true?

Analysed, it appears it’s true for the dapper actor.

Even though comparisons between his arch screen rival Mohanlal are often made, in the final analysis, Mammootty edges out Mohanlal by a whisker.

Even though it might be sheer coincidence, that Mammootty’s first film in 1971 — ‘Anubhavengel Pallichekel’, turned out to be matinee idol Sathyan’s last, it was not until 1980, that Mammootty was noticed in ‘Vilkanundo Swapnangel’, scripted by another legend M.T.Vasudevan Nair.

Last month, ‘Mammukka’ completed 50 years in the industry.

A look into the actor’s career reveals that it was after his marriage to Sulfath in 1979, that his acting career really took off.

Mammootty, more popularly known as Mammukka to all, witnessed his career graph take an upward turn after Sulfath walked into his life and his star run has continued unabated over the decades.

In 1979, his first full fledged role as a lead actor in ‘Vilkanundo Swapnangel’ wooed the box office.

Mammootty has had no reason to look back since and by has done over 400 films in Malayalam and other South Indian languages besides in English and Hindi.

The “living legend” has won three National Film Awards for Best Actor, seven Kerala State Film Awards and 13 Filmfare Awards South.

In 1998, the Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri for his contributions to the art.

Incidentally it was after Mammootty shifted base from Chennai to Kochi on a permanent basis during the late 90s, did his stock as an icon of the state started to grow and today it has reached the pinnacle as he is one of the most sought-after personality be it by any state government here or otherwise.

The actor ever since he assumed charge as the chairman of the CPI-M backed Kairali TV channel, when it was launched in the mid nineties, has established his place in the field of media too, and he continues to hold the post.

Even though all know the veteran actor is affable and kind hearted, they cannot deny “he is slightly haughty” and according to one of his co-star who has acted with him in numerous films and knows him inside out, even jokingly said, “He generally does not like anyone to wear a better dress or possess a mobile phone, which is better or more expensive than what he has”, but in the same breath he also said, when it comes to charity, he does it without a soul knowing it.

Since the Covid pandemic broke out and continues to rage into its second year, Mammootty has had no dearth of films and a few of his films are at various stages of production and despite his age, all producers would make a bee-line to sign him.
